The world is watching a war.
The war of the Macline Empire seemed to be focusing on the battlefield of Lusphelheim.
The biggest turning point in this war was which side’s strongest superhuman would be defeated first.
Among those superhumans were Logan and the Emperor, whose powers had been shown to the world through the war.
If either of these two, the strongest among superhumans, survived, they would become important to the winning nation, even if they were from the losing country.
Because of this situation, Logan knew that going secretly was very risky.
“Knowing that, why are you going out?”
Damian’s shout still rang in Logan’s ears, but he couldn’t explain the reason. People thought of him as a hero sent by God, but he couldn’t say that the gods were actually against him.
Also, he couldn’t ignore a chance to solve the problem when it was right in front of him.
In the end, Damian gave up because Logan wouldn’t even tell him the reason for going. But, Damian made sure to tell him what to do in case of an emergency.
“Please remember how important it is for you to go secretly at this time, and come back as soon as possible. And you must remember this before you go. The enemies are currently located at…”
Damian insisted on giving him the enemy’s location.
According to that information, the North Gak Royal Palace and the South Jo Royal Palace forces would be near Lusphelheim by now.
‘If I show up in the wrong place, the two royal palaces might start fighting each other.’
He would have to sneak into Kyle Castle, which was Macline territory.
Of course, the Macline forces in Lusphelheim were strong enough to defeat the two royal palaces.
But, if people heard that he was in Kyle, the two royal palaces might go to Kyle instead of Lusphelheim.
That was the problem.
‘If we spread the war to different places, we will be in trouble because we don’t have many troops.’
He couldn’t avoid it.
If he thought about it, even if that happened, he could just leave Kyle and go to Lusphelheim. The army couldn’t move faster than him.
Also, if the royal palace’s forces went to Kyle, it would be easier to fight the enemy’s main force. It might cause more damage to the Empire than Kyle or the mainland being destroyed.
But.
‘If I did that, my reputation in the kingdom would be ruined.’
It wasn’t just about what people thought.
Now he understood the power of a divine being, or even something greater. He could feel that it came from the hearts of his followers, so he couldn’t abandon them. Even if he didn’t think about what was right or wrong.
So, it would be better not to go at all.
…If he were a wise ruler.
‘When have I ever cared about that?’
It wasn’t just about fulfilling Harman’s last request.
Just in case.
If Harman could meet the fallen saintess at Kyle Castle and perform some miracle…
And if it happened the way he hoped.
He thought he could change the war again.
That hope was leading him to Kyle now.
‘So, let’s just do it for now.’
Logan had spent three days going around the forest to the south. Now, using the darkness of night, he ran northeast again.
He was so fast, a person watching from far away might think a golden meteor was flying across the land. Even with Harman, heavy in his armor, on his back, Logan moved with incredible speed.
But Harman was not happy with that speed, which was much faster than a horse. Logan was also using his power to keep Harman alive on his back.
Wham!
Rumble! Rumble!
“Cough!?”
He saw animals running away because of the sudden wind, but he didn’t have time to care.
Luckily, it was a deserted road, so the golden light was unlikely to be seen.
Ugh.
‘Then a little faster.’
Logan gritted his teeth and went even faster.
He had wasted three days on the detour.
If he took Harman to the saintess in Kyle Castle and nothing happened, or even if something did happen, he had to return to Lusphelheim right away. And he couldn’t let anyone know who he was.
Harman hadn’t said anything since his last words.
As time passed, Logan’s hope decreased and his worry increased.
‘This is probably a waste of time.’
Even now, running like this was becoming harder, and time felt shorter.
If people found out who he was and he didn’t gain anything, the war would become more complicated.
‘But why am I!’
Crunch.
He already knew the answer.
That’s why Logan ran even faster.
It wasn’t for Harman.
Changing the war was not the main reason.
The most important reason was…
‘I might be able to save my people.’
That was the only reason.
Even if Harman showed a small change, he might find a way to heal them, like he saved his teacher.
Not the dangerous thing he did with his teacher, but a way to heal souls for sure.
Of course, some would say this was foolish. They might say he was risking everything for a small chance.
But Logan had to do this.
“Because that’s why I came back.”
He said it like a promise.
At first, he only cared about his family, but now he cared about more people. But even so, he didn’t think he could care for hundreds of thousands of people like a king.
That’s why he had to go to Kyle because his heart told him to.
And he had enough reasons to believe in himself, even if others didn’t know.
‘If I can save two people without being seen, that would be the best.’
Luckily, because of his disguise, his skills, and the weak guards at Kyle, he was unlikely to be caught. Of course, saving the two people was even less likely, but if he succeeded, the rewards would be great.
If Damian knew, he would try to stop him, telling him not to be reckless.
‘Even if the chance is small, if I succeed, it’s a big win, so why not do it, right?’
He didn’t think about the possibility of things going wrong, even though it was even less likely.
He had always been reckless, and he had always succeeded.
So, it would be the same this time.
– Ah, I mean! You shouldn’t follow your heart! Especially if you’re a ruler! Ugh! I’m going crazy.
For a moment, it was like he could hear Damian’s voice in his head, and he laughed.
‘You guys can make up for what I can’t do.’
He thought of Damian, Dwayne, Rick, and Hamar.
Logan remembered even the people who were not on the battlefield and became more determined. Even if they were in the same situation as Iliana Clayton, he would have done the same thing.
‘Let’s go!’
Logan shook off the doubt in his heart.
As he became more sure of himself, the golden meteor went even faster towards the northeast.
In the middle of the night, Aaron, a soldier guarding Kyle Castle, yawned and stretched without thinking.
He seemed to have fallen asleep without realizing it.
He slapped his cheek and opened his eyes wide. Suddenly, he saw a scary figure in front of him.
“…Did you doze off?”
“Huh!”
A round face with a big smile.
He looked kind, but he was worse than a devil. Squad leader, Pan.
“H-huh?”
“Ah, no, I didn’t!”
Pan leaned closer, his smirk hateful in the dim light. “Were you sleeping, Aaron?” he asked, his voice like a cat playing with a mouse.
Aaron jumped, trying to hide his surprise. “No! I wasn’t sleeping!” He almost shouted, trying to sound innocent.
Pan’s smile didn’t fade; it became colder. “Oh? So, are you saying I am wrong? That my eyes are failing me?”
Cold sweat trickled down his spine.
“N-no, that’s not it either!”
“Hoo? Then what is it?”
“Y-you were just mistaken for a moment!”
“So, I’m a fool who makes mistakes?”
“N-no, you’re not!”
“Why do you keep saying no? What is it now?”
A commotion broke out in the middle of the night.
While everyone was distracted by the loud voices, a dark shadow slipped past.
Logan thought, ‘Why is he acting like this? I’m in my own castle. This feels like a strange game.’
If he had enough time, he would have tried to contact someone for reinforcements.
But with Harman’s life hanging by a thread due to his soul fading away, he couldn’t waste time.
Fortunately, he was wearing black night-robes, perfect for moving through shadows.
He had prepared for moving through the dark forest or along night roads, which helped him sneak in.
Of course, Harman’s gleaming silver armor, which he used to wear on his back, was long buried somewhere in the fields.
Logan’s skills had grown far beyond what they were when he left Kyle Castle. No one inside could detect him deliberately hiding.
However, when he reached the fortified stone chamber deep within the inner castle, he had to make a difficult decision.
Thwack. Thud.
Logan looked down at the knights who had fallen silently, a hint of apology in his eyes.
But it was only for a moment.
Scritch.
The flickering golden aura carefully dug into the stone door, easily breaking the blue magic that protected the space.
Victoria would be furious if she knew, but he had no choice.
Creak…
Logan opened the thick stone door and approached the center of the chamber, where two clear, coffin-like boxes stood.
These were life support devices.
‘Ilia, Clayton.’
These were the people he couldn’t save and had to abandon.
Logan looked at them with a mix of emotions, then walked towards Ilia and carefully laid down Harman, who he had been carrying.
[Sir Harman. Time is short. If you have any strength left, now…]
He sent a message to stimulate Harman’s fading soul. It was now just a faint spark, so he didn’t expect much. He had been sending soul waves all the way here without a response.
It was a long shot, but then, something happened.
Whoosh.
“Huh!?”
Suddenly, a pure white light burst from Harman’s body and poured onto Ilia, who lay peacefully.
That was surprising enough, but then the blue magical barrier around Ilia shattered, revealing her true form.
Soon, a blue light, as if answering Harman’s white light, began to glow from her entire body.
“How can this be…”
Reason told him the chance was low, but a miracle was happening.
At that moment, a golden light flashed in Logan’s red eyes.
‘It’s definitely divine power…’
Ilia was the Saintess of Amun, the God of the Sea and Change. Harman was the Holy Knight of Aria, the God of the Sky and Freedom.
The divine power Logan knew was like a trace left by the gods on those who served them. So, it made sense that the two divine powers had slightly different colors and temperaments.
But the traces of two different gods, moving according to the will of those abandoned by those gods, were responding to each other?
He couldn’t understand it at all.
‘What on earth did Sir Harman do?’
Moreover, the situation was still changing.
Oooooong. Bzzzt.
Victoria’s magic, in the life support device, seemed to resist the two people’s divine power for a moment, but soon gave way.
The lid of the life support device opened, and the divine power grew stronger, finally lifting the two people’s bodies into the air.
Now, the divine powers were forming a sphere around them.
He could see the two people’s souls, which had been weakened to a spark, gradually recovering.
This was what he had been longing for.
But then…
“Intruder!”
A loud voice came from outside the stone chamber.
Already!?
Was the training too effective?
“In a place that His Majesty told us to protect with our lives…!”
He didn’t even say that…!
Forgetting his confusion, Logan moved quickly.
Creeeaaak.
He closed the stone door and reinforced it with his ‘red’ aura.
Then, he watched the two people’s changes again.
‘It won’t take long.’
He had a feeling.
Fortunately, his feeling was right. Thud. Thud. Thud.
The vibrations from outside grew stronger, and the white and blue light from the center of the chamber also became more intense.
Flash.
Then, as the two lights finished responding, Logan moved like lightning, picked up Harman’s body, and jumped to the ceiling.
Kawaaaang!
The door of the stone chamber was destroyed.
“Fi, find the intruder!”
Some knights coughed up blood, seemingly from the backlash of the aura.
But the intruder had already disappeared through the destroyed door, becoming a shadow.
In the end, the knights saw a clear, coffin-like box, and next to it, a silver-haired woman sleeping peacefully.
Even with her eyes closed, an aura spread from her body, hinting at her beauty.
They couldn’t fail to recognize her. As a bishop from McLaine who became the head of the Holy Kingdom, she was the most famous woman in the world.
“S-Saintess!”
“It’s the Holy Pope!”
A commotion broke out in Kyle Castle.
