Protecting the Heroine’s Older Brother – Episode 208

When I opened my eyes the next day, I was in my bed, in my room.
Cassis was gone; he must have already returned to Fedelian.
I lay in bed for a while, gazing at the sunlight streaming through the window.
The sun must have been shining brightly, as the sunlight filling the room felt particularly warm and inviting.
I regretted not talking more with Cassis, feeling the absence keenly.
Cassis likely has many responsibilities in Fedelian, so his visit to Agrigent must have been solely out of concern for me.
Soon, I got out of bed.
I went to the vanity and checked my reflection in the mirror.
Fortunately, there were no signs of the previous night on my face.
My eyes weren’t swollen, and my body felt light, so Cassis must have done something before leaving to help me recover.
After confirming that I looked normal, I closed my eyes for a long moment before opening them again.
Then, leaving behind the composed face in the mirror, I turned away.
Wallowing in sentimentality was enough for yesterday.
No matter how much I wished, I couldn’t change the past.
Besides, I had a long road ahead and couldn’t afford to be caught up in what was behind me.
So, I decided to focus on the future.
With that thought, I took a step and opened the firmly closed door.

Some time later, Jeremy and I headed to Yggdrasil together.
The inside of Yggdrasil, which had been thoroughly cleaned, was quite tidy.
However, it hadn’t been long since we left, so it didn’t feel particularly different.
I remembered that the injured were still staying in other buildings.
Before leaving Yggdrasil previously, I’d heard that Sylvia would be staying here, so I planned to visit her when I had time.
“Do you know how wonderful the word ‘joint’ is?” Jeremy asked.
He wasn’t talking to me but to the attendant beside him.
Jeremy was as excited as if we were going on a picnic.
He had been like that for two days, ever since we prepared to leave Agrigent.
“It means that from now on, my sister and I will stand together, see the same things, think the same thoughts, and act as one.”
“Yes…”
“Do you have any idea how great and wonderful this is?”
He grabbed the attendant, who was guiding us to the conference hall, and said these things.
It wasn’t even a conversation.
Jeremy asked and answered himself without waiting for a response.
“Hmph. Well, of course, you wouldn’t know. This is something that only one person in this world, me, can truly understand.”
If anyone saw him acting so pompously unprompted, they might think he was strange.
The attendant struggled to maintain his composure while listening to Jeremy’s endless pronouncements.
He seemed to be newly hired because many of Yggdrasil’s staff positions were vacant due to the recent doll incident, and he was having a rough start.
“Jeremy, we might be late if we keep going like this, so let’s hurry,” I said.
“Okay, Sister!” Jeremy answered cheerfully and readily, as always.
Jeremy, who had been bothering the attendant, came closer to me.
Originally, the attendant was supposed to guide us from the front, but he had been acting dazed since he first saw me.
Even now, he was forgetting his duty and foolishly following behind Jeremy and me.
That was why I could tell that he was a new employee at Yggdrasil.
Still, his condition had improved a bit while Jeremy kept talking to him…
Now, after hearing my voice and reflexively raising his head to meet my eyes, the attendant had a dazed look on his face again.
It was fortunate that I already knew the location of the conference hall, or Jeremy would have been annoyed.
Of course, even without that reason, Jeremy would have immediately reprimanded and dismissed an attendant who couldn’t take his eyes off me.
But right now, Jeremy was in a very good mood.
Perhaps it was one of the best moments in his life.
I couldn’t help but wonder whether I should laugh or not, knowing the reason for Jeremy’s behavior. I shook my head slightly and walked ahead.
The heads and successors of each family were scheduled to gather again in the conference hall for today’s meeting.
Because Jeremy and I arrived just in time, it seemed that everyone else from the other families had already entered the conference hall.
As this incident was a huge event that would go down in history, like the Hyperion’s demon incident 500 years ago, a major discussion was scheduled to take place at this meeting.
After a while, Jeremy and I arrived at our destination.
We stopped in front of the large, firmly closed door.
Only then did the attendant seem to come to his senses and rush forward.
“What are you doing?” Jeremy asked.
He raised his eyebrows when he saw the attendant opening the door to the conference hall.
The attendant flinched and turned around.
“Yes?”
“What are you doing right now? You forgot the most important thing.”
The attendant, receiving Jeremy’s cold gaze, was flustered.
I also felt curious and asked Jeremy.
“What are you talking about?”
Just then, the attendant, hearing my voice, finally seemed to realize something and exclaimed, “Ah!”
Jeremy nodded his head.
Finally, the attendant, with a more determined look, pushed the half-open door more confidently and shouted in a loud voice.
“Jeremy Agrigent and Roxana Agrigent, the joint heads of the Black family, have arrived!”
At that moment, I couldn’t help but let out a small groan.
Jeremy…
Wasn’t what you whispered to the attendant earlier just bragging?
Jeremy reached out to me, seeing me speechless.
“Sister, let’s go in.”
His face was spotless, with only a proud smile on it.
Seeing that, I really thought I couldn’t stop him.
In the end, I smiled at him and took the hand that was held out.
Thus, we walked together through the wide-open door.
Inside, the heads and successors of each family were seated.
They were looking at us, who had appeared so suddenly and loudly, with expressions that seemed to say, ‘What is this?’
I first met Cassis’s eyes.
He smiled faintly at me.
From the Blue Fedelian family, Richel and Cassis.
From the Red Gastor family, Badrisa and Ryuzak.
From the White Hyperion family, Hiakin, along with Pandora, who was unexpectedly there.
She looked a little embarrassed as she looked at Jeremy and me.
Noel, the head of the Yellow Bertium family, was still confined to his bed and was not qualified to attend today’s meeting, so he was not present.
Instead, a stranger with a tense face seemed to have come to represent Bertium, sitting in the seat of the Yellow family.
Jeremy and I walked towards the seats prepared for us.
The wind that flowed in from the open window mixed with the scent of fresh green leaves that had just sprouted.
The golden sunlight was generously scattered in our view.
Before we knew it, time had passed, and the season of lush greenery had arrived.
It was another new starting point.
19. Epilogue – The Story Immediately After Another Beginning
On a very clear and sunny early summer morning.
Maria’s face was bright.
As you could tell from that bright expression, she had been in a very good mood lately.
That was because her son, Deon, had woken up from his coma.
“Beth, bring me the medicine.”
Today, Maria was trying to bring the medicine to Deon herself.
After Deon woke up, Beth had to prepare all kinds of herbal medicines for him by Maria’s order.
“You did as I told you, right?”
“Yes. It’s three times the normal dose.”
Maria was putting in a lot of effort as if she was trying to get Deon up and running right away.
“But… won’t the medicine be too much?”
“Deon doesn’t respond to most medicines, so it has to be this much. And what if it’s a little too much? It’s all medicine made by gathering only good things for the body.”
“Yes…”
“From now on, don’t spare any medicine that goes into Deon. That’s how he’ll get up and out of bed as soon as possible.”
If anyone saw it, they might have thought it was a truly touching display of maternal love.
But Beth knew Maria’s true intentions and secretly clicked her tongue.
In fact, Maria was excited about getting rid of Deon from this house as soon as possible.
The reason why she was trying so hard to get Deon better was to get him out of the house.
Then, Maria could spend peaceful days with Sierra.
“Beth, are you alone?” Maria asked as she went to Deon’s room.
Sierra appeared.
“Yes, Sierra. Is there anything else you need me to do?”
“No, it’s not that. I was asking because I couldn’t see Emily.”
“Emily…”
Hearing Beth’s words, Sierra went outside.
Emily had been absent from her post often these days.
Of course, it wasn’t often, but it was rare for her, who was always by Sierra’s side by Roxana’s order.
After walking a little, a wide-open field appeared.
Emily was standing at the highest point, looking into the distance.
“Emily, what are you doing alone?” Sierra asked.
Hearing Sierra’s voice, Emily turned her head.
She immediately came to Sierra and bowed her head.
“I’m sorry for leaving my post without permission, Madam.”
“I didn’t come to scold you.”
Emily answered diligently, recalling Sierra’s question.
“I was just getting some fresh air. I thought it would be okay if it was just for a moment since Maria and Beth are here, but I think I misjudged.”
She reflected on her actions with a still, expressionless face.
“Even if it’s a short distance, it can be dangerous to move alone like this, so you must have Beth by your side next time.”
Hearing her add that, Sierra smiled faintly.
“Sana and you tend to overprotect me.”
She stood in front of Emily and looked around.
The low wind swept past the grass that came up to her knees.
“Emily.”
“Yes, Madam.”
“You’ve been here for a long time, too.”
Was it because she sensed something in those words?
Emily raised her eyes, which had been lowered, and met Sierra’s face.
Sierra also moved her gaze and looked at Emily.
Then, she opened her lips with a faint smile and asked.
“Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Emily’s eyes quietly stared at the face she was facing.
Then, Emily’s tightly closed lips finally opened.
