China had been amassing gold. Very diligently. With utmost effort, gathering as much as possible! Perhaps it was due to their long, extensive history, or maybe vested interests had been exploiting things for just as long. Or perhaps it was a consequence of a period where they looted everything that could be turned into money, be it gold or anything else. In any case, precious metals, including gold, and foreign currency were being collected like mad.
One might wonder if there had ever been a time in human history when so much wealth had been concentrated in one place. This gold, collected under the guise of a gold-gathering movement, was dubbed ‘China Gold’ on Wall Street. Even as this gold was being amassed and then shipped out again, truly absurd things were happening.
To give a simple example, there were unfortunate incidents where gold bars would weigh slightly less when they came out of the warehouse than when they went in. Or the number of gold bars listed wouldn’t quite match up, which was a common occurrence everywhere. In severe cases, very high-ranking officials would alter the documents themselves, or gold would be removed wholesale under the pretext of being used elsewhere.
It was clear that if any of these issues leaked to the outside world, the credit rating of China Gold would be ‘Not Accepted!’ – nothing more, nothing less.
However, wasn’t the People’s Republic of China a communist state with a one-party system, where ‘control’ was easier and faster to exert than in any other country on Earth? Thanks to this, these pieces of information never leaked to the outside.
Regardless of what anyone said, Hu Jintao declared the utmost secrecy as the top priority, as the fate of the People’s Republic of China as a nation was at stake in this gamble.
The moment any information related to the silver alchemy [a metaphorical term for a financial strategy involving silver] was leaked, all public authority would be mobilized to trace it back in an instant. Even those in charge of the tracing were keenly aware that if they breathed a word of it, they would face the grim prospect of becoming a new exhibit in the ‘Body Exhibition’ [a controversial exhibition of preserved human bodies] for as long as the People’s Republic of China existed, and they moved accordingly.
However, there was no way to stop the rumors that inevitably arose. They couldn’t prevent the whispers that China Gold was unreliable for this and that reason. But it wasn’t every day that someone offered to exchange silver for gold on such generous terms. How many people wouldn’t jump at that opportunity?
Numerous countries around the globe promised to buy silver, and they had already scraped together a certain amount and exchanged it for gold. The United States was no different, and they were able to sweep up all the silver that came onto the American market.
It was certainly unsettling that they weren’t stopping it, but according to the Communist Party’s frequent investigations, no information was leaking ‘outward’. If it was a spy from the United States from the start, wouldn’t sending information to the United States be described as putting it ‘inward’ rather than ‘outward’?
It sounds like sophistry, but isn’t it true that the same words can mean different things depending on how you say them?
Most of China’s movements were being tracked in real-time on the desk in the US President’s office. Bush saw this and prepared for the operation by buying up as much silver as possible. Just in time, news that the US semiconductor post-processing was completely shifting from copper to silver was spreading all over the globe, causing silver prices to rise gradually in a smooth curve.
The golden alchemy that Bush dreamed of, the 21st-century El Dorado [a legendary city of gold] made of China Gold, was not far off. Likewise, the silver dream that Hu Jintao dreamed of was also not far off.
‘Something’s not right.’
Hu Jintao had a vague sense that information was leaking out to some extent. In fact, rather than sensing it, he was assuming that it was leaking out to some degree as a matter of course. Originally, a secret is something hidden and not disclosed to others, but since there were already dozens, even hundreds, of people who knew about this, it would be stranger if it didn’t leak.
As the old saying goes, there is no such thing as an eternal secret. Although the Communist Party couldn’t be better at controlling information, all humans, from Hu Jintao to Einstein, are imperfect beings, like broken gourds [implying incompleteness or flaws], so no matter how perfect they may seem, they are bound to leak in some areas.
Sometimes, that lacking part touches someone’s nerve, and their head gets broken in a physical sense, but in any case, isn’t it strangely too perfect? Usually, things don’t flow this smoothly.
‘But it’s already gone too far to stop buying silver.’
It didn’t take long for China to exchange all the gold it had accumulated for silver.
Much of the gold in the Chinese treasury had already been converted into silver. There was some commotion in the process of exchanging gold for silver, but this time, unlike China’s usual approach, they tried to resolve it with words as much as possible to minimize friction.
Transactions resolved with words were not China’s preferred method, but this was to maintain the secrecy of the operation. Despite the friction and concerns about the credibility of the gold bars, the gold was sold off at less than its value, but they were able to scrape up all the silver released on the American market.
All preparations were finally complete. All the world’s silver was scheduled to flow into China, and the price of silver would not fall.
‘Even if this plan succeeds, we won’t be able to escape the influence of the United States for at least 10 years.’
Still, doing this would at least elevate them from being unilaterally beaten to being able to exchange punches. There was a huge difference between being able to resist and not being able to resist. The former had to beg for mercy, but the latter could at least seize an opportunity to counterattack, couldn’t they?
Hu Jintao’s China was ready.
‘It’s finally time to compete.’
How many years had they been oppressed by those Yankees? Come to think of it, if you trace the origins of the United States, aren’t they a colony of England? The 18th-century gangster state, the British Empire, that turned China into a land of corruption and drugs!
‘Those Western bastards! They’re all in cahoots with those trashy tea drinkers!’
The West, always centered around the British, had been squeezing, tormenting, beating, and plundering China. This was truly a history of lamentation, but damn it, that history hadn’t ended and was still continuing.
Isn’t the United States also plundering China’s wealth indiscriminately like England? In that case, I don’t know what’s different from the Opium War era.
Well, if you think about it carefully, the quality might be worse with the United States. Because England at least had the commodity of opium coming in, even if it was unfair trade, right? The Yankee bastards were truly, damnably, shaking the very foundations of China beyond its capital, so that it can never grow.
‘If we can’t stop here, China will be divided.’
The rough outline of how it would be divided was also clear. First, Hu Jintao would step down, and someone would rise to the position of Chairman. First, the seven military regions would gradually operate autonomously, and in the end, they would gain independence.
Furthermore, factions would form within those seven military regions, and these seven would gradually split, and in the end, they would face a literal era of the Sixteen Kingdoms of the Five Barbarians [a chaotic period in Chinese history]. The Sixteen Kingdoms of the Five Barbarians might be better. If a civil war breaks out, will there even be as many as the Sixteen Kingdoms of the Five Barbarians?
Could it be that the Party Central Committee will be occupied, and China itself will start a nuclear war? Hu Jintao, as a Chinese person before being a politician, wanted to avoid a situation where the Chinese people themselves destroyed China at all costs.
‘I guess we need to build some more nuclear bunkers for the party members.’
Hu Jintao didn’t know if he would be alive when that happened, but in any case, he was extremely anxious. Thinking these thoughts, Hu Jintao was focusing all his attention on turning this China Gold into China Silver. Hu Jintao was desperate enough to postpone all other tasks to prepare for any possible situation.
Hu Jintao was tormenting his innocent fountain pen out of sheer nervousness when he finally let go of the fountain pen after his aide rushed into his office.
“What’s going on?”
“Chairman Hu Jintao, things have gone a bit awry.”
“Is it about ‘silver’?”
“Yes, unfortunately, it is.”
‘Oh, I knew it. I thought things were going too well.’
Hu Jintao was almost glad to hear that there was a problem. He was rather anxious because there were no problems, so he was even more so. There could never be an operation without problems. It was just an operation where the problems hadn’t been discovered yet.
In any case, if a problem was discovered, all you had to do was solve it, right? If the problem was bigger than expected and so big that it was a red light for the operation, then the exhibits to be displayed in the Body Exhibition would only increase slightly.
“Yes, what’s the matter?”
“We don’t have enough gold to buy silver.”
The problem that the aide brought was truly a problem that stimulated Hu Jintao’s extremely sensitive peripheral nerves. What kind of bastard was trying to ruin Hu Jintao’s great plan?
Not having enough gold to buy silver was proof that someone was doing something wrong in the middle.
Just before Hu Jintao’s rage was about to be expressed outwardly, the aide’s mouth opened first. And it didn’t take long for the anger that had been dominating Hu Jintao to turn into bewilderment.
“Yes, it has become very coincidental. There is much more silver on the market than expected.”
The words that came out of the aide’s mouth suggested a lack of basic capital, not someone’s corruption or crime. This was truly strange. They had gathered so much gold, how could they not have enough capital?
Even if it wasn’t gold, it was fine. In fact, there was petty cash collected from here and there. A huge amount of foreign currency. Recently, as the value of the yuan has been falling, all citizens have been preferring Hong Kong dollars or US dollars.
Thanks to this, the Party has been making a decent profit, but in any case, the Communist Party’s dollar holdings have increased significantly. This fund was also processed into bullets to be used for silver purchases with the tacit consent of the party members. So, at least, it was impossible to tolerate the statement that there was a shortage of bullets in the armory, even if it was said that there was a shortage of bullets due to corruption.
In any case, doesn’t that sound like the total amount of silver that China has to buy has increased significantly?
“What are you talking about? We’ve already bought most of the silver on the market. Where did a large amount of silver come from again?”
“It’s the United States. Silver from unknown sources is being released in large quantities on the US market.”
Hearing that, Hu Jintao felt his head go numb. The boundary lines and outlines that formed the boundaries of objects became increasingly blurred and turned yellowish, and then Hu Jintao’s world literally spun around and around,
“Silver prices are falling to a serious level!”
He plummeted to the floor.
“C, Chairman! The Chairman has collapsed!”
Did China say it was fully prepared?
Yes, China was ready.
Ready to move towards destruction.
