Became the Greatest Crazy Emperor – Episode 1
Became the Greatest Crazy Emperor 1
“Let’s break up.”
My girlfriend told me this.
These days, instead of meeting in person to say goodbye, people coolly do it over text, but she must have been considerate of me, suggesting we meet at a cafe to talk.
“Okay, let’s do that.”
And I accepted it without much emotion.
Maybe she knew my personality well, which is why she wanted to break up in person. No, she probably did.
“Don’t you have anything else to say?”
“I understand your situation, so what else is there to say? Isn’t it the same for you?”
“…….”
She doesn’t say much to my dry response.
It’s understandable.
They say love is done with the heart, but marriage is done with the head, right?
“I’m grateful you dated someone like me until now.”
“Is that all?”
“Do we need to say more?”
If you ask if there’s a significant reason, it ultimately boils down to my poor family background.
Ah, in my case, there’s not even a family to speak of, since I don’t have parents who raised me.
The only thing I can boast about is that my academic performance was decent enough that I won’t starve.
But in South Korea, where people’s wallets are getting thinner, that’s not enough for marriage, even if it’s enough for dating.
The saying that every worn-out shoe has its mate is old news.
Everyone wants to marry under better conditions, and it’s better for the worn-out shoes to do so.
“Then take care.”
I left the cafe, leaving my dejected ex-girlfriend behind.
It was summer.
…or rather, early autumn, which felt chilly.
After that, I had nowhere else to go, so I stopped by a convenience store and returned home.
It’s a small monthly rental room, but honestly, I could afford a slightly better place.
Of course, owning a home is hard to dream of, so I’d either rent a place or take out a loan and pay it off.
Still, the reason I live in such a small place isn’t because I lack the ability, but because I don’t need a bigger place yet.
“Now I really don’t need to. Tch.”
If I were to start a family, I would have found a home, even if it was a rental, and stopped doing high-paying tutoring jobs to find a proper job.
I may not have much, but it’s not like I had no vision at all.
But the reality is that it’s not enough.
What’s funny is that I’m not particularly sad enough to burst into tears.
It was bitter that a sense of inevitability preceded sadness.
“Damn, if I had been born a king or emperor, this wouldn’t have happened.”
I didn’t even have to be a king or emperor; if I just had a lot of money, people who liked me would be lining up.
And I wouldn’t have to break up with someone I liked.
Breakups, love, sadness—these things had become the exclusive property of those who have nothing.
“Emperor, emperor, huh.”
I muttered meaningless words to myself and turned on the gaming platform, Steel.
Speaking of emperors, a new game suddenly came to mind.
Parallel Interactive’s new strategy simulation game,
“This time, it’s set in a fantasy world, right?”
Originally, they made grand strategy simulation games where you develop a country set in a historical background and wage war against other countries to conquer them.
But this time, they made it with a fantasy background, and I heard they tried many different things.
“They mixed in RPG [Role-Playing Game] elements, which seems like a pointless attempt.”
RPG elements would mean adding stats, items, traits, and skills to the leader who represents the player.
In the previous games, leaders and characters were given a few stats, but the direction was completely different.
I couldn’t find out more details just from the description, so I immediately bought and ran the game.
[Quick Start]
[Load Save]
[Select Scenario]
[Emperor Mode]
After watching the intro video, familiar menus appeared on the game’s start screen.
But one of them was a bit unfamiliar.
“Emperor Mode?”
The game’s name was Empire, and since it said Emperor Mode, I was more curious about that than anything else.
As soon as I pressed the button, an interface similar to a character creation screen in a typical role-playing game appeared.
“Ah, I can create my own character.”
You could directly determine the name, appearance, country, status, skills, traits, and everything else.
And it meant you could start in the world with that character.
It was a formalization of a feature that would normally be in user-created mods [modifications].
[Remaining Custom Points: 10,000]
[You can set up your character by spending points.]
[The better the settings, the more points are consumed.]
[Conversely, giving disadvantageous settings will replenish a certain amount of points.]
Reading the brief tips, I quickly understood the method and started creating a character.
[Name: Franz I]
[Status: Emperor of the Gross Empire]
[Starting Difficulty: Slightly Difficult]
[Starting Basic Stats: Governance 10, Diplomacy 10, Combat 10]
I set the name, status, and starting difficulty.
The Gross Empire varies depending on the scenario period, but the period I chose was just before the empire was about to collapse.
Perhaps because the period acted as a disadvantageous setting, the point consumption was very low considering I chose the emperor status.
“It’s probably because it’s so difficult, right?”
Seeing that the scenario name was written as [The Fall of Humanity], it definitely felt that way.
“Instead, I can choose better stats and traits.”
The more disadvantageous settings, the more points increase.
The game would be more difficult, but I could choose the strengths I wanted to start with.
Typically, an element that hardcore gamers want.
I used the increased points to choose useful elements.
[Emperor’s Eyes – 3,000 points]
[If the conditions are right, the Emperor can see through all the information necessary for governance.]
“This is a must-have.”
Seeing all the information.
I couldn’t exactly guess the extent of the range, but unless I was looking at a strategy guide, the importance of information was very important.
And 3,000 points was quite cheap compared to the usefulness of the function.
[Innate Martial Talent – 1,000 points]
[Genius – 2,000 points]
The next traits I chose were these two, as there were RPG elements.
Innate martial talent would be an important trait for direct combat, but genius was a measure to be able to learn anything better in the long term.
“So, there are about 3,000 points left.”
I thought about where to invest these remaining points.
Coincidentally, everything I’ve chosen so far has been traits.
Like passive skills.
If I turned my attention to skills instead of these, there were many different skills.
But I thought about it carefully. Did I really need to learn skills now and start?
[Tip, Traits are almost impossible to acquire additionally except for those you are born with.]
[Tip, Skills can be learned relatively cheaply and started with, but you don’t have to start with them, as you can learn them through training during the game.]
Even if it wasn’t a tip, I could have guessed it intuitively, but there was a pretty friendly tip.
According to this tip, there is theoretically no need to learn skills.
Of course, if you start without proper starting skills, the difficulty will increase dramatically.
But I’m starting as an emperor, right? Then it will be offset to some extent.
Therefore, I boldly decided not to learn any skills and choose one more trait.
“This would be good.”
[Loved by the Gods – 3,000]
[This character is deeply loved by the gods. There are overwhelming advantages in actions and decisions regarding religion and faith.]
[Remaining Custom Points: 0]
“It’s all done. Shall we start?”
After finishing the customization, I chose the [Start Immediately] mode.
Since I had already decided on the scenario, the game started with just one button press.
[The God of Destiny grants you a new destiny.]
[Please show us interesting results.]
“What?”
As soon as I saw the screen that suddenly appeared, my consciousness completely disappeared.
* * *
“Your Majesty, these are the items to be approved today.”
A stern-looking prime minister said to me.
Being called ‘Your Majesty’ is not a play or a hidden camera.
“Ha, damn it. If I had known this would happen, I wouldn’t have decided like this.”
“Pardon?”
“No, it’s nothing.”
Without even looking at the pile of documents the prime minister brought, I muttered to myself.
I, Franz, the young emperor of the Gross Empire, who became emperor without knowing why, was regretting why I didn’t choose a better period back then.
Logically, I couldn’t have imagined that I would become the game character I created.
“Take care of these roughly on your own. I want to be alone for a while.”
“But, Your Majesty…….”
“Anyway, these aren’t even worth looking at!”
When I shouted, the prime minister’s face turned red, but he bowed sadly and left.
I felt a little sorry, but as someone who had only been possessed for a short time, I needed to gather my thoughts.
“It’s good to be an emperor, but everywhere I look, it seems like a country that will collapse in a few years.”
It wasn’t for nothing that the scenario name was [The Fall of Humanity].
The empire, which once occupied almost all of humanity’s territory, has now lost much of its former glory.
Even now, it is being conquered or threatened by different races and demons.
The empire is declining, but humanity itself is also falling as slaves to different races and demons.
It is in a state where it is impossible to avoid destruction.
“I became the emperor of such an empire, so it’s hard to even think about playing around as much as I want.”
Back on Earth, I had the idea of living like an emperor again.
So, my wish came true, but this feels very different from what I wanted.
I became an emperor, but with the empire in this state, it seems like I’ll either save the empire or die from overwork.
Or, if that’s not enough, I might die at the hands of the enemy. It could be rebels instead of enemies.
“No, no. Isn’t it possible?”
But suddenly, I thought differently.
I didn’t need to be intimidated by that.
If it’s a country that will collapse no matter what I do, it will collapse.
Of course, I’m not going to sit idly by, but if the result is the same no matter what I do, can’t I just do whatever I feel like?
“What’s the worst that could happen? I’ll be deposed or die?”
I didn’t die in my previous life, but becoming a completely different person and being made me feel like the original me had died.
Of course, I might still be alive, but I didn’t have any regrets about ‘Lee Hyun’ on Earth.
I might have had them before, but after being dumped by my girlfriend because I didn’t have money, my previous life felt like I had just chosen the wrong world to be born into.
But I want to live differently this time. Yes, I’m going to live only for myself. That’s it.
“What the heck, I’ll do everything I want to do.”
I just need to do enough to do that.
So, whether it’s honor, pleasure for fun, love, or thrill, I’m going to do whatever I feel like.
