Future-Reading Rookie Singer with a History – Episode 1 (1/225)
There was an idol who had debuted three times in total: twice in idol groups and once as a debut member from an audition program.
His real name was Namu Myung, and his stage name was Na Do-hyun.
He wondered if he was living a life of obscurity because of his name, so he tried to change it, but he was met with opposition from his entire family.
So, he remains unknown.
* * *
His heart-fluttering first debut was as a beastly boy group!
It was a small agency, but such a bold, innovative, and masculine idol group was bound to succeed.
There was the hardship of not being able to part with chicken breast to build muscle, but I was special among them.
Great, my life is now a bed of roses!
The problem was that a large agency also saw our concept very favorably. It’s difficult for a small beast to beat a large beast. According to the laws of nature, we were eaten. There was no need to even consider disbanding; the agency went bankrupt.
A second debut opportunity! A pretty boy group! At first, I was a little taken aback by the dazzlingly handsome faces, but I felt reassured to be on the same team. Yes, faces like these should be standing next to me.
A solid mid-sized agency, where handsome actors were active, invested properly in the pretty boy group. The agency was solid, and I thought my future was set on a smooth path.
Perhaps because of the strict diet control, the sickly pretty boys on both sides turned pale and collapsed, were edited out of broadcasts, and ruined events. The agency terminated the members’ contracts one by one before the contract period even ended.
Of course, I was also abandoned.
A third debut opportunity came along. Good heavens. It wasn’t a group or a casting. It was an audition program. Indeed, the heavens wanted me to live as a singer. I succeeded in getting my skills recognized by my own efforts.
I must work hard and not miss this opportunity. I diligently and silently sang alone.
And was forgotten alone, for the last time.

“How can you change the name that your grandfather gave you, saying that you have a short life and the Grim Reaper won’t know your name and avoid you?”
“It’s because of this name that I’ve debuted three times and become an unknown idol!”
Do-hyun protested and argued with his family several times. Determined to change his name this time, he secretly went to court. He was about to submit the documents but was caught by his family and failed.
In the end, he was stuck at home, listlessly looking in the mirror with a sigh.
“How can I debut three times and still have no one recognize me? Am I not meant to be an entertainer?”
His grandfather’s voice seemed to echo in his ears.
“You must not become an entertainer!”
The most opposed member of the family was his grandfather. He said that the fate of an entertainer and the fate of a shaman were only a hair’s breadth apart, and he even went on a hunger strike at his age, a terrifying opposition.
So, he couldn’t debut while his grandfather was alive and only became a trainee after he passed away.
Now, ten years into his debut.
At the age of twenty-nine, Do-hyun got up for a cable channel recording with a viewership rating of 0%, which he had gotten into after a long time.
‘Grandfather, instead of just opposing me, you should have clearly told me that I wouldn’t succeed as an entertainer. You could see other people’s lives so clearly, why did you just blindly oppose your grandson’s life?’
Thinking of his grandfather, his heart ached for no reason. When he was young, he was scared of his shaman grandfather, and when he grew up, he was sometimes ashamed.
But as he grew older, he realized that his grandfather loved him more than anyone else.
And wasn’t he living an entertainment life against even his grandfather’s opposition!
He comforted himself, resolved to do well today, and got up in front of the mirror.
* * *
It was a dazzling waiting room.
“I’m lucky today?”
Although he had to come to the broadcasting station early and do his makeup alone, Do-hyun was simply excited. Thanks to the cancellation of a popular celebrity guest’s schedule, he got to use such a waiting room, and it was also the first time in a while that he could do his makeup comfortably without being watched.
Because it was his first broadcast in a long time, Do-hyun’s touch was very careful. No matter how little money he made, he bought good cosmetics and hair products. Even if he starved, skin care and hair care were essential so that he could say he was an idol when he went outside!
After finishing the setup alone, Do-hyun looked at the script on the table.
“WHEEL OF FORTUNE”
“Wheel of Fortune? A shaman as a guest?”
He narrowed his eyes while looking at the guest’s personal information that he would be appearing with today.
Then the door burst open.
A man in brightly patterned clothes narrowed his eyes as soon as he saw Do-hyun and said.
“I thought I was the only one using this room?”
“Ah! Hello.”
Do-hyun thought he was using it alone, but it seemed that this man thought so too.
“The production team told me to wait here too.”
“Is that so? Are you an entertainer?”
“Yes. Aren’t you an entertainer too, sir?”
“An entertainer? Well, I’m as famous as any entertainer.”
It seemed that he was the shaman who would be appearing with him today.
Do-hyun chuckled without realizing it.
During election season, politicians were always crowding around, and celebrities came to his house a lot.
Nevertheless, his grandfather had never said that he was famous, and in fact, ordinary people hardly knew his grandfather.
It was funny to hear the shaman in front of him say that he was famous.
“Tsk, it’s a hopeless fate. A hopeless fate. The energy is strong. Ambiguously strong!”
“Pardon?”
“The fate of an entertainer and the fate of a shaman are only a hair’s breadth apart, but your divine energy is ambiguously strong! It would be good to either receive a spiritual descent [a ritual where a shaman becomes possessed by a spirit] or do something similar to suppress the energy.”
A hair’s breadth.
Do-hyun’s body stiffened at the words he had heard from his grandfather.
It was also true that he had divine powers. As the grandson of Korea’s best shaman, he had suffered from spiritual sickness as a child. His parents didn’t have it, but his grandfather was sad that spiritual sickness had come every other generation.
Because he wanted me to live an ordinary life, not as an entertainer or a shaman.
His grandfather had cured his spiritual sickness. He had never heard of curing spiritual sickness without receiving a spiritual descent, but his grandfather had done it somehow.
“You have a desire to be a singer?”
“It’s not a desire, I’m currently active. I’m an idol.”
The shaman, who had been staring at Do-hyun, suddenly laughed.
“Oh, look at this guy. You refused a spiritual descent when you were young?”
A light burst out from the eyes hidden behind the flashy makeup as flashy as the clothes.
Do-hyun gasped without realizing it.
“A person who received an enormous spirit blocked the spiritual sickness. You can never succeed as a singer if you continue like this. The energy of the spirit is exhausted. Is it perhaps your bloodline?”
Do-hyun nodded.
“Hah, my grandfather.”
“Do-hyun? I’ve never heard of a shaman with a grandson named Do-hyun. If he were a fairly skilled shaman, I would definitely know. What’s his name?”
Do-hyun couldn’t bring himself to say his grandfather’s name. The shaman’s eyes curved like a crescent moon, and he raised the corners of his lips.
“Now I understand. With this much energy of a spirit, he must be that person’s grandson. Well, you shouldn’t carelessly mention that person’s name. But it’s strange. That person must have known that the energy of the spirit would be exhausted.”
The shaman circled the waiting room alone, pondering.
“Ah! Is this also the intention of the spirit? That I met you!”
The shaman put his hand on Do-hyun’s shoulder.
“Since you refused the spiritual descent, it would be good to maintain the energy of the spirit with something similar.”
“Pardon?”
“Looking at what that person blocked, your fate isn’t to be a shaman. Let’s see, do you know tarot?”
“Tarot?”
A hollow laugh flowed out.
“You can never succeed as long as you reject the spirit. If you maintain the energy of the spirit, you will be very successful in the future. The way to maintain the energy of the spirit is to receive a spiritual descent and become a shaman, but you don’t want that, do you? It’s not your destiny either.”
“That’s right.”
“So, I’m telling you to at least look at tarot. Try learning it once. You’ll feel something different.”
“Learn tarot?”
The shaman smiled deeply.
“Yeah. Or should I perform a descent ritual for you?”
Do-hyun got up.
“It’s okay.”
He looks like a con artist. Tarot is funny, but what about a ritual.
Then the door opened, and the production team came in.
“Let’s start filming, you two!”
* * *
The filming ended in a daze. Do-hyun’s portion was almost nonexistent. He just sat there like a sack of potatoes, clapping.
It was the shaman’s world. The production team seemed to believe that the viewership ratings would go up if they hired a skilled shaman, so they openly pushed the shaman.
As he trudged home, Do-hyun shook his head.
“I got caught by a strange shaman.”
Still, he can receive appearance fees for today’s appearance, and add a line to his filmography.
The shaman’s words kept lingering in his ears. He knew his grandfather, and the talk about the energy of the spirit didn’t seem like a lie.
The shaman he met today was a real shaman with a hidden eeriness in his flamboyance.
A shaman who received a god.
‘It’s the first time I’ve seen such a shaman since my grandfather, but should I learn tarot?’
He had nothing else to do anyway.
For the time being, while he was circulating his profile and hanging around broadcasting stations, he thought about studying tarot in his spare time.
When he got home, he ordered tarot cards without even washing up.
He lay down on the bed and watched videos of all sorts of tarot YouTubers.
‘The psychics are running rampant, running rampant.’
The tarot reader and the shaman were on different tracks, but he could distinguish the eyes that told the truth.
‘Is this really right?’
Among them, there was also a tarot master.
Do-hyun closed his eyes, relieved by the fact that whether it was a shaman or tarot, it depended on the person. It was a really strange day.
