210. Episode 36 – Broaden Your Horizons (7)
“Cut, okay!”
Director Jeffrey’s “Okay” sign echoed through the set.
At the same time, today’s filming came to an end.
“Good work, everyone.”
“Thanks for your hard work, everyone!”
After exchanging final greetings in a friendly atmosphere,
I headed to my private trailer with Manager Kim.
“Hee-sung, good job today.”
“Thanks. You worked hard taking care of everything, Hyung [older brother or close male friend].”
Manager Kim, heading to the trailer, kept looking at his wristwatch, checking the time.
“Hyung, is something up?”
At my question, he showed me the time and nodded anxiously.
“Today’s the day the sitcom airs.”
At his words, I was startled and exclaimed, my mouth agape.
“That’s right! What time is it?”
“It starts in three hours.”
“Let’s go home quickly.”
The sitcom starts in 3 hours.
There was still plenty of time left,
But my appearance in Hollywood wasn’t in Director Jeffrey’s work, which I’m currently filming,
But my cameo in the sitcom was the first.
I was so curious and excited about how I would look on camera.
Also, after the article about my Hollywood debut spread in Korea, everyone paid attention.
I couldn’t help but wonder about their reactions.
So, the remaining 3 hours didn’t feel long at all.
My heart started to race.
With a nervous heart, I quickly packed my things in the trailer.
Manager Kim also packed his things and said to me.
“We’re filming again after the weekend anyway, so should we just pack up roughly and head home?”
As if waiting for his words, I quickly nodded.
“Let’s do that.”
A few hours later.
We turned on the TV, tuning to the channel where English was constantly spoken.
“Oh, there’s less than an hour left now.”
“That’s right. I’m really nervous.”
Both of us, with expressionless faces, sat on the sofa like stone statues, feeling anxious.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this nervous, even when my movies came out in Korea or when I did dramas as the lead.”
“That’s right. It’s making me nervous because the work is coming out in America.”
We just quenched our thirst with water and passed the time,
And then, we stared at the TV with our eyes wide open.
The sitcom notification rang.
“Hyung, it’s starting!”
At my words, he swallowed hard and straightened his posture.
Manager Kim, had set up a tripod next to him in advance.
He pressed the record button on the camera installed there.
“Hyung, but the sitcom is all uploaded on the internet anyway, and it’s on OTT [Over-The-Top media service] these days. Do you really have to film this?”
I asked him, bursting into laughter.
Manager Kim nodded with a serious face, even at my laughter.
“Of course. It only comes out after a day. I’m filming this and not uploading it anywhere. It’s for my personal collection. I’m proud, it’s our Hee-sung’s first Hollywood debut.”
His face was filled with more pride than me, and a smile spread across his face.
I couldn’t stop laughing.
In the end, Manager Kim, who pressed the record button, shouted while looking at the TV.
“Oh oh… it’s starting!”
After that, we didn’t exchange a single word.
We were so focused as if we were being sucked into the screen.
That’s how the first scene I appeared in was revealed in about 10 minutes.
“Hee-sung, you’re on.”
Manager Kim and I moved closer to the TV with pupils widened as if they were about to pop out.
“Wow, the camera loves you.”
He tapped my shoulder and looked back and forth between me and me on TV with a pleased expression.
I also raised the corners of my lips as I watched myself on TV.
“That’s right. It definitely feels different from how I look in Korea. Right?”
“Yeah, is this the sensibility of a Hollywood sitcom? Haha.”
We exchanged jokes for a while.
We continued to watch until the end of the sitcom, except for laughing.
Without exchanging any conversation, we watched with all our hearts and sincerity.
Pop-!
When the sitcom ended, I turned off the TV.
We faced each other and clapped our hands.
Clap clap-.
“Wow, Hee-sung. Congratulations on your first Hollywood TV sitcom.”
“Haha, thank you, Hyung.”
“I wasn’t sure if it would suit our Korean sentiments, but it suits us well enough and is full of funny things.”
I nodded in agreement with his words and replied.
“I know. I was wondering if this would suit our sense of humor, but it’s totally awesome?”
“There are a few more episodes to come, I wonder how they edited the rest.”
Manager Kim and I continued to talk as if we were having a debate about the content of the sitcom we had just watched and my acting.
“The scene where you came out of the hospital earlier, your face looked really good. Your acting was amazing too.”
At his feedback, I nodded my head again with a focused face.
“Really?”
“Yeah, your acting was really on point in that part?”
“Haha, that’s a relief. But in the next scene….”
Manager Kim and I spent more time giving and receiving feedback than the time we spent watching the sitcom.
But I loved this time so much.
The person who knows me best.
This time to immediately exchange and share stories about my acting with someone who has watched my acting for the longest time is more precious and valuable to me than anything else.
At that time.
Beep beep.
At the ringing of my cell phone alarm, I said to Manager Kim.
“Hyung, just a moment.”
“Yeah.”
“I’m getting calls from the actors I filmed the sitcom with.”
At my words, he got up from his seat and replied to me.
“Keep in touch. I need to contact Korea for a moment.”
“Okay.”
I quickly opened my cell phone.
The contacts were the actors I filmed with Brian.
-Jin, congratulations on your first Hollywood sitcom. I just watched the broadcast, and it turned out really well!
-Hee-sung, I enjoyed your acting. It’s already been a week since we filmed together. Let’s see each other soon.
-It was nice to see Hee-sung again on TV. The reaction is good that this episode is funny, right? Let’s all meet up soon~!
I raised the corners of my lips as I looked at their messages that came with care.
It was only a very short two weeks of filming.
But I got attached to them a lot.
Moreover, I was so grateful that they were all busy, but they watched the live broadcast and contacted me.
I sent replies to all of them.
I opened the internet to check the real-time reactions of the locals.
The reaction was better than I thought.
No, it was a huge reaction beyond my expectations.
-What, the Asian who came out today is good at acting.
-K-POP is famous, and now Koreans are coming out in sitcoms? ㅋㅋ [Korean internet slang for laughing, similar to ‘lol’]. But he’s good at acting.
-Oh oh, is he Korean? That Asian face is my style.
-I want to see the next episode quickly.
-How many episodes will that Asian appear in?
└It looks like he’ll be in a few more episodes. I hope he continues to appear as a regular. He’s totally my type.
-That actor is Korean ‘Jin Hee-sung’. I’m going to end up looking for Korean movies ㅋㅋ.
I bit my lip and raised the corners of my lips at the attention pouring on me.
“The reaction is better than I thought?”

The next morning.
My cell phone kept ringing as soon as I opened my eyes.
It was the only weekend of the week when I could sleep in.
But I ended up opening my eyes at the countless alarms.
“What is it, from the morning?”
I barely rubbed my eyes and got out of bed.
The cell phone screen came into my blurry vision.
The alarms were from Korean actors, acquaintances.
And messages from fans coming non-stop on SNS [Social Networking Service].
It seems that the video of me appearing in an American sitcom spread in Korea last night.
The contents that came directly to me were all congratulations and that my acting was great.
Since it was my direct acquaintance or fan.
I wouldn’t be able to say harsh things.
I felt good as I watched the compliments pouring on me and jumped out of bed.
Then, to hear and see a more objective story, I moved to the study.
After that, I accessed the Korean site and started looking for articles or comments related to me.
“Oh oh, there are already articles coming out?”
There weren’t many articles pouring out that I appeared in an American sitcom.
But if you search my name, you can see it occasionally.
It wasn’t a big Hollywood movie.
It was obvious that there were few articles because it was a sitcom appearance that I didn’t even tell Korea in advance.
The comments on those articles.
The number of comments was quite large, perhaps because it became a topic of conversation.
-Huh, Jin Hee-sung is making his Hollywood debut?
-He said he was making his Hollywood debut, was that sitcom it? ㅋㅋㅋ.
-What, I thought he was coming out in a huge movie ㅋㅋ.
└I admit, I also thought he was coming out in a movie at least because it was Hollywood.
-Didn’t he say he was filming a movie with Director Jeffrey? He ran away without seeing Director James’ audition, isn’t this also running away? ㅋㅋㅋ.
-Huh? What’s with the sitcom ㅋㅋ.
-But Jin Hee-sung, isn’t he just doing one now?
└That’s what I’m saying. He just filmed a sitcom in Hollywood and will continue to do something.
└I think so too! First, put it in neutral gear.
-Honestly, isn’t it great just to film a sitcom? He’s really good at acting when I see it.
-Wow, he’s good at acting without being intimidated among Americans. Isn’t it a complete promotion of national prestige?
-Jin Hee-sung is good at acting as expected. And his height and face are not intimidated at all among Americans.
-Jin Hee-sung’s face is crazy.
-I know all those actors, but it looks like a synthesis because Jin Hee-sung is there. Seriously, Jin Hee-sung is so cool. I’m unnecessarily filled with national pride!
-Jin Hee-sung is doing this too, so is he also doing Director Jeffrey’s movie? What is it? I’m curious, why doesn’t the agency tell me.
The comments were divided into pros and cons, and seemed to be divided into two groups.
He said he was making his Hollywood debut, was that a sitcom, the reaction.
And the reaction of talking about acting and supporting me.
The comments were endlessly commenting, arguing with each other.
Whether good or bad, I raised the corners of my lips as I watched it become a topic of conversation more than I thought.

“Hee-sung, are you ready?”
“Yeah.”
I sat down, touching my clothes at Manager Kim’s words.
Instead of appearing in the sitcom, there was an interview condition attached by Head Han.
Today was the day of the first interview.
The day when countless speculation comments were posted.
First, I decided to do an interview with a reporter in Korea via video.
And soon the screen brightened, and a Korean reporter appeared.
“Hello.”
-Oh my, hello. Actor Hee-sung.
She sent greetings to me with a bright face.
“Yes, nice to meet you for the first time.”
-Wow, even if I see it like this on video, I can feel the handsomeness all the way here. Haha.
After exchanging brief greetings with the reporter I met for the first time.
I went straight to the point.
-You came out in an American sitcom yesterday, was that sitcom originally your Hollywood debut?
“That’s not it.”
-That’s right. As far as I know, I heard that you were making your debut with Director Jeffrey’s work, please tell me about what happened.
“Yes, I am working hard on filming Director Jeffrey’s work. I came back from filming yesterday too.”
She was typing my story quickly.
“I wanted to learn the environment and acting here so much that I ended up filming the sitcom. As I expected, it has different charms and things to learn from movies….”
That’s how the interview had a few more questions added later.
I poured out my story without adding or lying.
A few tens of minutes later.
The interview ended faster than I thought.
The reporter smiled brightly and said to me.
-That’s all I’ve prepared.
“Thank you for your hard work. Please take good care of the article.”
-Yes, looking at the comments, there are many people who don’t know the content well and write malicious comments. If this article comes out, will the malicious commenters all be quiet?
At her words, I raised the corners of my lips and replied.
“I guess so. Please write the article well so that it happens.”
-Of course. I’ll organize it quickly and put out the article. Thank you for your time.
“I’m the one who’s grateful. I hope we can meet again for good things when I go to Korea next time. Reporter.”
-Yes, I’ll cheer for your successful filming.
After finishing the interview warmly with her.
A few hours passed.
The article came out right away.
Then, the comments on that article were all comments cheering for me.
Nowhere could I see the malicious comments from the morning.
“Wow, all the malicious comments disappear like this in an instant? Malicious commenters… are really amazing people.”
