219. #39 – Memories with Her (4)
“Song Yoona cried?”
At my words, Chief Kim nodded vigorously.
“Yeah, and when you collapsed on the street, you probably don’t remember that either, right?”
I shook my head at his words.
“Of course not. I completely lost consciousness.”
“Yoona made quite a scene on the street, apparently.”
“It was that bad?”
Chief Kim didn’t sneer but chuckled, recalling the moment.
“She was grabbing passersby, shouting, and causing a ruckus. Apparently, people around her called an ambulance.”
Even with his explanation, I couldn’t recall anything from that time.
Well, if I could remember, I wouldn’t have collapsed in the first place.
Chief Kim got up as if reenacting the scene, his face full of life as he continued.
“After you were taken to the hospital, I got a call.”
“Yoona doesn’t know your number, does she?”
“Right. So, she contacted your manager in Korea, who then got in touch with me.”
I sighed.
“Ah… I’m sorry. It must have been the middle of the night in Korea.”
“It was, but there was no other way. Your phone was locked, and that was the only way to find my number.”
“I see.”
We both wore gloomy expressions.
Chief Kim then perked up again, ready to tell the next part of the story.
“But you know what’s really amazing?”
I raised my eyebrows and asked him.
“Yeah, what’s so amazing?”
“I rushed to the hospital after getting the call. And Yoona was shouting at the doctor in English, looking at you passed out.”
I tilted my head at his words.
“But Yoona isn’t very good at English.”
“She was shouting, using gestures and everything.”
Chief Kim glanced around before continuing.
“Saying she would pay whatever it cost, hundreds of millions or billions, just to get you fixed quickly.”
“Wow, really?”
He suppressed a laugh that was about to burst out.
“She was shouting and crying so desperately.”
Chief Kim seemed amazed and amused by Yoona’s behavior.
“Yoona isn’t usually like that. But she made such a fuss about you collapsing, it was so surprising. It was new. And she cried so much, it was touching.”
I bit my lip at his words.
“What happened after that?”
Chief Kim shrugged and replied.
“Yoona was so exhausted from crying and making a scene at the hospital, but when the doctor said you were just overworked, she didn’t believe it.”
“Then?”
“She kept insisting that no one collapses like that from overwork and demanded they save you no matter what.”
Chief Kim continued, recalling the moment.
“The doctor showed her you sleeping soundly and said you collapsed from sleep deprivation and would be fine after a good rest.”
“I feel bad that I collapsed from lack of sleep, not from being sick.”
I joked to Chief Kim, but.
“Oh, if you were sick, it would have been a real disaster.”
He shook his head and said to me.
“Anyway, only then did Yoona feel relieved and slump into the chair next to you.”
“And then she left?”
“Yeah, I didn’t know you two were that close. I wonder if Yoona got back okay.”
I slightly raised myself up and said.
“Did Yoona go alone?”
“Yeah, I offered to take her, but she said she couldn’t leave you like that. She insisted on going alone.”
I quietly murmured, thinking of Yoona leaving alone.
“She’s not good at English… I wonder if she got a taxi okay….”
Maybe it was because I was genuinely exhausted from accumulated fatigue.
Or maybe it was because of the IV drip in my arm.
I kept opening and closing my eyes.
Acting in Hollywood and adapting to this place was already overwhelming for me.
It wasn’t that I was too tired to work.
But making friends with strangers in a new environment and acting in English wasn’t easy.
However, all of that was manageable.
It seemed the really difficult part was something else.
Mental fatigue.
Recently, I’ve been having frequent dreams.
And the pattern of those dreams was always similar.
It wasn’t about past events or new projects I was preparing for, like before.
From some point on, it felt like the same person always appeared.
The person I loved so much.
I was feeling the heart-wrenching pain of parting with that person in every dream.
Perhaps that’s why sadness always dominated my mind after waking up from those dreams.
Just yesterday, after having the same dream again.
This morning, through Song Yoona’s touch, I became certain that the person I loved was Song Yoona.
Maybe it was because I found out that person was Song Yoona.
Or maybe it was because I was lying in the hospital in an unstable state of mind.
Anyway, I was in a very peaceful state right now.
This feeling of having no worries, no concerns, no anxieties.
I was so happy with this feeling that it was satisfying.
My throbbing head was now clear.
I didn’t know how long this feeling would last, but I was content in the present.
As I slowly opened my eyes, Chief Kim was sitting in front of me.
He was yawning and quickly covered his mouth when he met my gaze.
“Haa… Heesung, you’re awake?”
I widened my eyes and asked him.
“Hyung, you’re still here?”
“Of course. I couldn’t leave while you were sleeping.”
“What time is it?”
Chief Kim looked at his watch and said.
“Uh… it’s 8 o’clock.”
I quickly waved my hand and replied.
“Wow, it’s already that late. Hyung, I feel fine now, can I be discharged?”
As I tried to get up, Chief Kim quickly pressed down on my shoulder.
“Hey, you’re not fine. Just stay in the hospital for today. I’m even slowing down the IV drip on purpose.”
I stretched my stiff body.
“I really feel fine.”
“No, you’re not. Since you’re resting anyway, just relax and get some sleep. You’ve been having nightmares lately, sweating all the time when you wake up, whether it’s day or night.”
“How did you know?”
At my words, he shrugged and replied.
“I know everything. I sometimes go into your room in the morning to wake you up and see it. And we sleep together in the trailer during naps, so I know everything.”
“Ah….”
“But you sleep soundly when you sleep here. Anyway, let’s stay here tonight and get discharged tomorrow.”
I nodded at his words.
Chief Kim wasn’t wrong.
He leaned back in his chair again.
Looking at him, I quickly opened my mouth.
“Hyung, I’m getting discharged tomorrow, so you should go back to the accommodation and sleep.”
“It’s okay. I’ll sleep here with you.”
“I’m really fine. I’ll feel too bad if you sleep here.”
He waved his hand as if it was okay.
I had no intention of being persuaded by his words.
“Hyung, really go. I’m really okay being alone.”
“Still….”
I looked him straight in the eye and blinked.
Seeing my confident face, Chief Kim finally nodded.
“Okay. But call me if anything happens. I’ll come running right away.”
“Yeah, nothing will happen, and you must be tired from taking care of me all day at the hospital, so go get some rest.”
“I will.”
***
A person biting their nails and staring at their phone.
Song Yoona had sent several texts to Jin Heesung’s manager, but she continued to glare at her silent phone.
Then.
Vibration.
As her phone rang, she quickly opened it to check the message.
-Yoona, Heesung is okay. I’m on my way back to the accommodation and saw your text, so I’m replying. You must have been surprised today too, get some rest.
Before replying to Chief Kim’s text, Song Yoona jumped up.
“What, so Jin Heesung is alone in the hospital?”
She sighed deeply and grabbed her coat.
She started packing her things into a large bag.
“This is no time for this… I need to pack quickly and go.”
After packing her things in a frenzy, she left the hotel in less than an hour.
She took a taxi and rushed to the hospital.
Knowing the location of Jin Heesung’s room, she headed straight there.
Knock knock.
She carefully opened the door and saw Jin Heesung.
Song Yoona sighed in relief as she looked at his peacefully sleeping face.
“Haa… he seems really okay now.”
She stood by his side, watching him, and let out a sigh of relief.
At the sound, Jin Heesung twitched his eyebrows and slowly opened his eyes.
“…Uh?”
“What, did I wake you up?”
Song Yoona blinked and asked.
Jin Heesung exclaimed with a startled expression.
“Why are you here, Yoona….”
“Well… it’s just that a perfectly healthy man suddenly collapses in the middle of the street. I came to check if it was something serious!”
Song Yoona rattled off the words.
Seeing her like that, Jin Heesung chuckled and said.
“So, is that why you were crying so much, begging them to save me when I collapsed? Haha.”
Looking at Jin Heesung, who was speaking with a playful voice, Song Yoona frowned deeply.
“It’s not that, it’s just that you were acting all tired and then suddenly collapsed in the middle of the street, so I felt like it was my fault.”
Her tone, her trembling voice.
And even her quivering lips, everything was sincere.
Jin Heesung, who knew very well that Song Yoona was genuinely worried about him, bit his lip and replied.
“Thank you for worrying about me, Yoona.”
Jin Heesung’s reply was also from the bottom of his heart.
Song Yoona swallowed hard at his reply, cleared her throat, and avoided his gaze.
“What… I wasn’t worried? I was just concerned that I would be blamed for Jin Heesung collapsing.”
At her words, Jin Heesung narrowed his eyes and clicked his tongue.
“…You really know how to say mean things, don’t you?”
At Jin Heesung’s words, Song Yoona crossed her arms and glared at him sideways.
“What is that look for?”
“It’s nothing.”
He relaxed his expression and looked at the shopping bag in Song Yoona’s hand.
“But what’s in that shopping bag?”
“Ah, this?”
Jin Heesung raised his lips and asked.
“What, did you bring fruit or something as a get-well gift?”
Song Yoona shrugged with a frown.
“No, it’s my blanket.”
“Pardon?”
“You said you’re getting discharged tomorrow.”
“That’s right.”
Song Yoona slumped into the chair next to the bed and opened her mouth.
“I get cold easily.”
“What does that….”
***
Song Yoona, who suddenly came to visit, was leaning against the makeshift bed next to my bed.
We were continuing a conversation that kept breaking off, and we were now using this awkwardness as a backdrop.
“So, Heesung is settling down in Hollywood.”
We weren’t looking at each other.
We were lying in our respective places, looking at the same ceiling, and talking.
“Well, I’m just getting started.”
“Still, starting is half the battle. You’re doing movies, and that sitcom is fun, too, right?”
At her words, I raised the corners of my lips and replied.
“Oh, you watched my sitcom? You must have been busy in Korea, when did you find the time to watch my sitcom?”
I would have been surprised just to hear that she watched my work.
But she even went out of her way to find and watch the American sitcom I was in.
Surprised by the unexpected story, I raised my eyebrows and asked.
“…….”
When she didn’t answer for a moment, I opened my mouth again.
“What, aren’t you going to tell me when and why you watched it?”
Song Yoona still kept her mouth shut.
I wondered if she was too embarrassed to open her mouth, so I peeked my head out.
“Yoona…?”
Then, at the end of my gaze, I saw Song Yoona closing her eyes.
I quickly closed my mouth, which had been calling her.
She came all the way to the hospital in the middle of the night to take care of me.
But she fell asleep before me.
A burst of laughter came out at the sight.
Nevertheless, I was filled with gratitude for her coming all the way to the hospital with the intention of nursing and taking care of me.
She was on vacation in LA and was dedicating more than two days to me.
I glanced at Song Yoona, who was sleeping soundly.
“What, she said she gets cold easily and brought a blanket. But she’s not even covering herself, she’s using it as a pillow?”
Looking at her curled up, I pulled the blanket from my bed and gently covered her.
As I raised the blanket from her feet to her shoulders and looked at her face again,
A subtle emotion arose.
And the moment when her hand touched me came to mind again.
The person I loved more than my own life in the past.
Of course, that person was reincarnated and is now in the form of Song Yoona.
Just because I realized that the person I loved was Song Yoona didn’t mean that feelings of love were springing up.
Rather, only the faint and sad feelings of losing her at that time were being revived.
I stared at her with eyes that quickly became moist.
I bit my lip and swallowed my feelings deeply.
‘Could it be that I like Song Yoona?’
My heart ached whenever I saw her.
But I couldn’t conclude that I liked Song Yoona with just these feelings.
This was just an emotion that was hard to describe.
Could it not be expressed as a feeling of love…?
I stared at her sleeping soundly for a long time.
