283. #51 – Consideration for Whom (1)
Early morning.
Today, I headed to the office instead of my study.
The office, now properly established.
Thanks to Chief Kim’s quick preparations, the office was ready.
Even if I practiced at home, there was no need to discuss work matters with Chief Kim there anymore.
Stepping into the office, it was a space incomparable to WG Entertainment, but it had everything a company needed.
From the office staff to the divided spaces.
It was quite well-equipped for an entertainment company that had just started.
“Hee-sung, you’re here?”
“Yeah, the office is becoming more and more like a company.”
At my words, he wore a proud smile.
“Of course, now even strangers would see it as an entertainment company, right? Haha.”
I nodded at his words, giving him a thumbs up.
“Hyung [older brother or close male friend], you must have gone through a lot.”
While I was focused on choosing my next project.
I knew very well that Chief Kim had spent time and effort struggling for the company.
“Hey, it’s nothing. You suffered too.”
“You could have taken it slow, but you rushed to get things settled; you must have gone through a lot.”
He raised the corners of his mouth and wrinkled his nose.
“No, I had to get things settled as soon as possible. That way, you’ll have a proper agency before you start your next project, Hee-sung.”
“So that’s why you rushed so much?”
“Of course, that’s why your hyung pushed himself a bit. I need to make sure no one messes with my celebrity.”
My nose tingled at Chief Kim’s words.
I think it was because I knew his heart so well.
After leaving WG Entertainment, the project fell through, and I couldn’t do anything.
Chief Kim once told me while drinking that he felt sorry for not being able to be my support….
But rather, I felt sorry for not being able to be his strength.
If I had been an actor with tremendous influence, would this have happened?
Would WG Entertainment have been unable to exert any pressure?
With many thoughts, I was determined to grow stronger and run forward.
Chief Kim always seemed to feel sorry for not being able to stop WG Entertainment for me.
Because of his heart, I couldn’t let go of my will to succeed even a little.
Rather, I was thirsty for success.
We were running towards one place with the same heart; it felt like we could do anything.
No, we had to do it.
After a short office tour with Chief Kim, we headed to the conference room.
Although it wasn’t big, there was a table and several chairs.
And a screen that filled the wall, and so on.
It had everything.
“Wow, the conference room is well made.”
“Of course, I took only the good points from the conference rooms I saw in other companies and made it. Haha.”
I raised the corners of my mouth and admired his words.
Soon, we entered the meeting.
“Hyung, did you check everything I told you about?”
“Director Park Ho-chan’s project?”
“Yeah.”
He opened his diary as always.
“Yeah, I looked into the project you’re going to join. Director Park Ho-chan is a given, and the writer’s lineup is good too.”
Chief Kim raised the corners of his mouth and continued.
“And above all, the investment company is very solid.”
The investment company had become an important factor for us.
Although the investment was withdrawn due to pressure from WG Entertainment.
We were checking with our eyes wide open because the movie could be canceled again due to the investment company’s withdrawal.
“Good. If the script is solid, there’s no reason not to go, right?”
“Yeah, Director Park Ho-chan is so popular these days.”
I hadn’t even had a meeting with the director yet, but I had a good feeling.
The throbbing of conviction that I could succeed.
“Hyung, but I haven’t received a separate casting offer for this, have I?”
At my question, Chief Kim slowly nodded and replied.
“…No.”
“What’s the synopsis of this project?”
“I have it. I’ll bring it to you.”
“What did you think when you saw it, Hyung?”
Chief Kim was nodding, but a somewhat uncomfortable expression appeared.
“Yeah, the content is good too….”
Having watched him for a long time, I could tell at once just by looking at his expression.
That there was something.
“Hyung, but is there something… with this project?”
“Ah… that’s…”
He hesitated to answer, making a ‘tss’ sound.
I tapped the table in front of Chief Kim and said.
“It’s okay. I need to know in advance.”
“It’s not certain, but as I recall, I think I saw this project… when I was at WG Entertainment.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“Is it a project that came to me back then?”
He frowned deeply, trying to recall the memory.
“No, if that were the case, I would definitely remember. I think it came to another actor….”
“Who?”
“I don’t remember that far. But Director Park said he was interested in you. Then it must have fallen through with the other actor. It’s a good thing for us.”
I felt a little uneasy, but I shook it off.
Choosing the lead actor in a project wasn’t decided in an instant.
Casting is determined after going through several actors.
It wasn’t a big deal for me which actor the script went to.
What’s important is that this project has come to me now, and I can seize this opportunity.
“Yeah, well, does it matter? I should take a look at the synopsis.”
“Yeah, I’ll bring it to you right away. The content is amazing.”
Chief Kim raised the corners of his mouth as he recalled the script, and I was able to feel relieved at his smile.
I could tell just from Chief Kim’s expression that the project was amazing.
* * *
As soon as I read the synopsis, I had no hesitation.
It felt like I had been looking at a huge amount of scripts to meet this project.
Even just looking at the summary of the project, my heart was pounding.
It was enough to draw me in.
And I immediately set a meeting date with Director Park Ho-chan.
I wanted to talk to him about the project as soon as possible.
The more I liked the project, the more questions piled up.
What kind of acting should I do in this scene, and what kind of image do I want to capture on the screen?
Whether these details can be added here.
Whether the character I envisioned is the same as the character the director is pursuing.
Like a student with piled-up questions, I wrote down my questions on paper and headed to the meeting place.
Knock knock.
Opening the door and entering, Director Park Ho-chan and the production company people were waiting for me.
I bowed my head towards them.
“Hello, I’m actor Jin Hee-sung.”
At my greeting, they all stood up and welcomed me.
“Hello, I’m Park Ho-chan. Nice to meet you.”
“Director, it’s my first time meeting you. It’s an honor to meet you.”
At my words, Director Park laughed heartily and nodded.
It must have been a greeting he had heard countless times.
“It’s an honor for me to meet actor Jin Hee-sung too. I enjoyed your previous works.”
“Thank you.”
Director Park and the production company staff sat down.
I sat in front of them, and soon the story about the project began.
“How was the script… was it okay?”
At Director Park’s question, I opened my mouth without any hesitation.
“More than okay. As soon as you sent me the script, I read it all in one sitting. The content is solid and interesting, of course, and the immersion is no joke.”
At my words, Director Park and the production company staff smiled contentedly.
“That’s right. That’s why I’m very confident in this project. However, this project is very important for the actor.”
It was the same for any project, but the role of the lead in this project seemed particularly large.
It was a script where the director had very clear things he wanted to show.
“Yes, so if I get to do this project, I want to thoroughly analyze every scene and do it perfectly.”
At the same time as I spoke, I took out the questionnaire I had written down and handed it to him.
“I also wanted to ask if the character I envisioned is the same as the character the director wants….”
Before I could finish speaking, Director Park and the production company staff opened their mouths wide.
“You have so many questions?”
“Wow, did you write all this while watching the script?”
At their words, I tilted my head and replied.
“Yes, I haven’t been given the role yet, but I still tried to understand the role I would be playing first.”
Director Park clicked his tongue and said.
“You’re a complete researcher. Is that why they say Jin Hee-sung, Jin Hee-sung?”
I waved my hand at his compliment.
“No, I’m still lacking a lot.”
“Just imagining filming with actor Jin Hee-sung makes me feel secure already. Haha.”
Director Park handed me a page of the script and said.
“Then, can we see you act this part here first?”
“Yes, of course.”
I quickly immersed myself in the role.
I started acting with the imagination that I was standing in front of the camera.
After a few minutes like that.
When the acting was over, Director Park and the production company staff poured out their admiration and clapped their hands.
“Wow, well done.”
“As expected, actor Jin Hee-sung’s acting is… needless to say.”
I smiled at their words and bowed my head.
“Thank you.”
And as if trying to wrap up the situation, Director Park covered the script and said to me.
“I was happy to meet such a passionate actor today. Let’s meet separately before starting the project and analyze those questions in detail.”
I nodded vigorously at Director Park’s words.
“Yes, I will work hard, Director.”
“Okay. You worked hard meeting today, and I’ll contact you through your manager.”
“Yes, you worked hard. Thank you.”
After shaking hands with Director Park, I left the meeting room.
And as soon as the tension was released, my heart started to beat.
It wasn’t trembling because I was worried about being dropped from the role.
The desperate desire to do this project, this character.
And my heart was pounding at the meeting that went so smoothly.
“…It’s done!”
* * *
As I was leaving the building and about to call Chief Kim.
The cell phone that couldn’t be seen even when I rummaged through my pockets.
“Ah… right!”
The cell phone that had fallen out when I took out the questionnaire came to mind.
I snapped my fingers and headed back into the building.
“Still, I’m glad I remembered before going home.”
The meeting room I approached with quick steps.
Perhaps it hadn’t been cleaned up yet, the voices of Director Park and the production company staff could be heard.
I raised my hand above the door to knock at their voices.
At that moment.
“But is Jin Hee-sung… okay?”
My name mentioned in their mouths.
I stopped the hand that was about to knock.
And unintentionally, I was able to hear the evaluation of me in real-time.
“Well, it was a bit of an issue when he came out of WG Entertainment.”
“That’s right. It’s not that Jin Hee-sung did something wrong and caused controversy, but still, it went up and down in the articles. Isn’t it a bit… precarious?”
I couldn’t bring myself to knock at the story I was hearing.
And unintentionally, I was able to hear the evaluation of me in real-time.
“But Jin Hee-sung’s acting skills are amazing.”
“Even if his acting skills are good, there are actors with better conditions.”
“Hmm… especially considering the investment company’s preferences… Jin Hee-sung is a bit….”
“Still, we have to go with Jin Hee-sung. There’s a definite reason.”
“That’s right. If we go with Jin Hee-sung this time, Song Yu-na will be the lead in the next project, right?”
“That’s right. Let’s go with Jin Hee-sung for the next project, shall we?”
The name that was on their lips was not only me.
The name ‘Song Yu-na’ that stuck in my ear.
My face was getting more and more distorted at the story about her.
