Chapter 11. Debut.
“It’s good that it’s doing well, but….”
The popularity of “Snow Lady” was heating up as Christmas approached.
Now, it was hard to find a place that didn’t play “Snow Lady.”
As if to prove it, the Korean version, not the English version, belatedly began to gain popularity, eventually taking the second spot on Lemon [a fictional music streaming service, similar to Spotify or Apple Music] and other charts.
Thanks to this, a strange situation arose where the 1st and 2nd positions were filled with the same song.
This interest in “Snow Lady” naturally drew attention to me and Lee Na-eun, who sang the song.
Especially, there was great interest in Lee Na-eun.
Unlike me, who had some recognition due to YouTube or Park Ji-won [likely a reference to a known personality], Lee Na-eun’s face was not yet known.
Although she was an established singer, it was five years ago, and it had failed so badly that she was virtually an unknown singer.
As a result, the number of views of the YouTube video revealing Lee Na-eun’s face was increasing at an astonishing rate.
The overseas version was about to exceed ten million views, and the domestic version was also showing signs of doing so.
In the process, Lee Na-eun’s recognition was rapidly increasing.
Although she didn’t put on makeup properly and covered her face with glasses, her fair skin and pretty face inevitably captured people’s attention.
Anyway, the success of “Snow Lady” was a good thing for me as the producer, but the problem was Black Tiger.
Originally, “Snow Lady” was created to promote Black Tiger, but as it grew too big, it threatened to overshadow Black Tiger instead.
“I should postpone the debut date.”
It should be at least after Christmas, when the carol’s popularity fades.
While trying to coordinate the debut date with the manager, even considering postponing it until after the new year, the debut date was set earlier than expected.
“How about Friday, December 28th?”
“Isn’t it too early? I was thinking of at least next year.”
Since the experienced manager couldn’t possibly be unaware of this, I expressed my doubts. The manager smiled and explained the situation that had just been decided.
“‘Legends of Rock’ has contacted us. They said they would release the Black Tiger performance broadcast on this day.”
“Are you talking about the one we recorded two days ago?”
Usually, it takes at least 1 to 2 weeks to broadcast a show.
In the case of ‘Legends of Rock,’ it could take even longer. First of all, there were many things to be careful about because they had to increase the broadcast time as a special feature so as not to disrupt the existing program’s format.
For this reason, I thought the broadcast would air around the 14th episode at the earliest, but it’s coming out in the 8th episode.
This means that the broadcast will be aired almost a month earlier.
To my question, the manager smiled, offering a slightly absurd reason, and continued.
“The production team said they are Black Tiger fans. They said they can’t wait for the debut date to be postponed.”
“……Are they crazy?”
I couldn’t help but ask that question.
In fact, it was absurd in the first place that a special stage was prepared for ‘Legends of Rock.’
I am grateful that they are fans, but is this common sense?
Of course, that kind of thing often happened in their world.
However, that was only possible because I was a world-class star. Just my name alone would change the viewership ratings of the broadcast itself, so it was natural for the PD [Production Director] to push the broadcast forward, even as a special breaking news segment.
On the other hand, although I had raised my recognition to some extent through YouTube, it was nothing compared to active singers.
This is because media such as YouTube target only specific people.
It was similar to the fact that today’s teenagers do not know the stars who shook Korea in the 7080s or 90s [referencing past decades]. It was so divided by age alone, but YouTube, etc., which target even more specific audiences through algorithms, was even worse.
I had raised my public awareness to some extent through “Snow Lady,” but that also had its limits.
If I had done broadcast activities with “Snow Lady,” it would have been different, but I didn’t.
It didn’t matter to me, but the problem was Lee Na-eun.
To sing a proper duet, I had to subtly maintain the hints on each stage, but at this rate, it was like completing gaslighting [manipulating someone into questioning their sanity].
Anyway, in that respect, what the ‘Legends of Rock’ PD is doing now is something that cannot be done with a sane mind.
Considering that it is a large program that the broadcasting station is pushing, it was even more so.
However, the manager seemed to understand the PD’s decision.
“If you only think of it as fan sentiment, it seems like the PD is overdoing it a lot, but wasn’t that stage really amazing? They must have finished their calculations. They are saying that they will continue to have a good relationship with us even by helping us in this way.”
“That’s… burdensome.”
“Hahaha. Well, whatever the case, we are grateful that the PD of the hottest program is helping us.”
At those words, I scratched my chin and nodded.
As the debut date was set, we had to spend our time busily preparing for activities.
Since we are an old man band, there is no reason to make a fuss like idols, but we still had to think about basic costumes.
In addition, it was time to hire people for public relations, etc., which had been outsourced, so it took quite a bit of time to find people.
In addition, we had to visit the music programs of each broadcasting station to ask for date coordination for broadcast appearances.
Thanks to this, time passed quickly, and before I knew it, I was facing the debut date of Black Tiger right in front of me.
