Don’t Get Caught by Your Husband! Chapter 58. Never Let Me See You Again (58/130)
#58. Never Let Me See You Again
2024.04.27.
“…….”
I wanted to say, ‘I’m sorry for coming in without permission,’ but the words wouldn’t come out.
Belladonna opened her mouth, then gave up and lowered her head.
Escalion, who had been watching her, raised an eyebrow.
“If you have something to say, say it.”
“…….”
I do… but the words won’t come… Belladonna clenched her fists in frustration.
If I had known this would happen, I would have brought writing utensils and a notepad….
Escalion, still watching her silently, got up from the bed.
As he did, the blanket slipped, revealing his muscular physique.
Belladonna subtly averted her gaze and cleared her throat in her mind.
Escalion stretched his arms, making cracking sounds as he moved his head from side to side.
He walked to the closet, grabbed some clothes, and put them on.
“Are you just going to stand there? Why did you come all the way here?”
Finally, he turned to her, wearing a light navy tunic.
Belladonna shook her head and approached Escalion.
She planned to write on his palm, as she had done before.
“What is it?”
But before her fingers could touch him, Escalion frowned and pulled back his hand.
Belladonna looked up, startled.
Escalion was confused. Belladonna had barged into his room while he was sleeping and kept approaching him without a word.
He had only woken up recently and was still dazed, so her approach felt unsettling.
“…….”
He avoided me….
Belladonna lowered her head, hurt.
Escalion frowned and pushed his hair back.
“…If you have something to say, say it from over there.”
But I can’t speak….
Feeling wronged, Belladonna touched her neck.
“Does your throat hurt?”
She shook her head.
“Then what is it?”
Escalion sounded annoyed. He had no idea what she was doing.
Belladonna gestured that she couldn’t make a sound.
She mimed chattering, then made an X with her fingers.
Escalion frowned.
“You can’t speak? We’re alone. If you’re worried about being overheard, whisper.”
No…! I can’t!
When Belladonna repeated the gesture, Escalion tilted his head.
“…You can’t make a sound?”
She nodded enthusiastically.
Escalion sighed and rubbed his neck.
“Yes, my wife can’t make a sound. I don’t know why you’re pretending now.”
“…….”
“I understand you have nothing to say.”
He moved past Belladonna.
Belladonna, feeling him brush past like a gust of wind, grabbed his wrist.
Escalion stopped.
Belladonna grabbed his hand, opened it, and wrote on his palm.
‘S.u.d.d.e.n.l.y. m.y. v.o.i.c.e.’
“Yes, you can’t make a sound,” Escalion interrupted. Belladonna looked up and wrote again.
‘I. d.o.n.’t. k.n.o.w. h.o.w. i.t. h.a.p.p.e.n.e.d.’
“You don’t know why you can’t make a sound. I understand,” Escalion said unsympathetically.
She felt hurt by his disbelief, but it was understandable.
You were talking fine, but now you suddenly can’t speak. It looks like a lie….
Belladonna sniffled, composed herself, and wrote.
‘I. w.a.n.t. t.o. a.p.o.l.o.g.i.z.e.’
Escalion looked at her silently, then stepped closer.
“Belladonna.”
“…….”
“Do you know what I’m thinking?”
Escalion’s voice was cold and low.
Belladonna staggered back, feeling threatened.
“I have no idea what’s going on in that little head of yours.”
Escalion grabbed her chin and lifted it.
Belladonna trembled, her blue eyes wide.
He was getting closer.
Belladonna kept backing away.
“Did you do something to apologize for? You did. I was fooled for two months, never suspecting your thoughts.”
“…….”
“I was stunned when you hit me, but I did what you wanted. I didn’t marry you for innocent reasons.”
Belladonna’s back hit the wall.
She was trapped.
Belladonna looked up at him helplessly.
“The Pope used his head. I knew he was greedy, but I didn’t know he’d use his daughter.”
“…….”
“I’ll write the divorce papers. Or I can donate to the Vatican. Is that what you want? If you needed money, you should have said so.”
Belladonna shook her head desperately.
That’s not what she wanted.
Escalion chuckled.
“Isn’t this funny?”
He turned her face from side to side, examining it.
The faint scars on her cheeks remained.
Looking at them made him feel sick.
Escalion took a breath, tightened his jaw, and forced the words out.
“When cornered, you hide behind the saintess who can’t speak. I know your voice. I know how to hear it.”
“…….”
Belladonna held back tears.
She had never seen Escalion so cold.
Escalion raised his eyebrows.
“Oh, you wanted to apologize?”
He lowered his head and bit her lower lip.
Belladonna gasped and grabbed his arm.
Her head hit the wall.
“……!!”
Escalion wrapped his hand around her head.
Belladonna closed her eyes and endured his forceful kiss.
The room filled with wet sounds.
Her legs weakened, but he held her tightly.
Smack.
Escalion broke the kiss.
Belladonna looked up, dazed.
They were both breathing heavily.
Escalion rubbed his thumb over her glistening lips.
Her soft lips were crushed.
Escalion seemed to snap out of it and roughly wiped his own lips.
He spat out coldly.
“I got carried away. It might be the last time.”
He turned and left.
Belladonna slid down the wall and collapsed.
The door opened and closed.
Belladonna stared at his retreating back in disbelief.
* * *
“Lord….”
Volff entered the office and saw Escalion staring at him, his chin on his palm.
“I told you not to let anyone in.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know the Lady would go to your room….”
“Check if she returned to her room.”
“I’m back from checking. I watched her finish dinner and go to bed.”
Escalion’s expression softened.
Whether it was sleepiness or something else, seeing her face upset him, and he ended up hurting her.
He resented her for pretending to be mute, unaware of his inner turmoil.
He shook his head and sighed.
“Never let me see her again.”
If he saw her, his resolve would crumble.
He had vowed to send her back to the Vatican, but his thoughts vanished when he faced her, replaced by greed.
Just now, when he looked at her red lips, his body had stiffened.
‘Just one more month….’
Wasn’t the agreement for three months?
He had planned to send her back immediately, but he needed another month to calm his agitated heart.
So, he couldn’t send her to Astanya yet.
“Damn it….”
He cursed his foolishness.
