Thursday arrived.
It was Thursday, and it was also a filming day for the show
Fortunately, today’s filming was much easier than the last time.
“Wow, Woojin, you look even better than the last time I saw you!”
“Don’t lie to me. I know I have dark circles under my eyes.”
“Ah…! I was just trying to be nice. Can’t you pretend you didn’t notice?”
Today, everyone on the set of
And they had a good reason to be.
After the second episode was shown last Sunday,
The average number of viewers for the second episode was very high, 13.6 percent. This was even more than the first episode.
At one point, more than 18% of people were watching at the same time! This was truly amazing.
Also, it wasn’t just the good viewer numbers.
Many people were paying to re-watch the previous episode after the second episode aired.
Because of this, the team making
PD Gong said that when he felt very tired and wanted to give up, he would just search for ‘Why Did You Come To My House’ online.
“Seriously, just one search makes me feel better, you know?”
“Does it really help that much?”
“I’m sure you’ve searched for it at least once since the second episode, right, Woojin?”
“Well, I did, but I’ve been busy…”
“Wow, I’m completely hurt! I search for it about fifty times a day!”
The director of photography walked over to PD Gong as he was joking and added a comment.
“Don’t lie, PD-nim.”
“Yes?”
“You search for it about five hundred times a day, PD-nim. We all know.”
The assistant PD, who was standing next to him, suddenly spoke up.
“I don’t think so? I think it’s at least a thousand times, from what I see?”
“……”
Woojin chuckled at PD Gong’s awkward face.
Woojin had also done some searching himself.
On Monday, the day after the show, he kept checking the internet whenever he had time.
But he looked for different things than PD Gong.
PD Gong and the others mainly looked for what viewers thought about the show.
Woojin only cared about how people were talking about Cafe Fresco.
Of course, it was important for the show to do well.
But Woojin was more interested in how much attention his design was getting.
“Anyway, should we start filming soon, PD-nim?”
“Let’s do that.”
PD Gong nodded at the director of photography’s words. Woojin, standing next to him, looked a little confused.
“Huh? Am I the only one here?”
Woojin was surprised.
None of the other actors were at the filming location except for him.
But PD Gong smiled and said, “The others will be here between 3 and 4 o’clock.”
“Yes?”
“Woojin will do half of today’s filming by himself.”
“……?”
Like last week, they were filming at the woodworking shop in Euljiro.
They were also making furniture for Jaeyeop’s house, like last time.
But today, Woojin would be making almost all of the furniture himself.
The other actors would help, but they wouldn’t be involved in every step like before.
Jaeyeop, Suha, and Ria had already filmed a lot of footage of their woodworking last week.
Today, PD Gong wanted Woojin to quickly make the rest of the furniture and focus the camera on him.
That’s why the other actors were coming later.
Suha and Ria wanted to help today like they did last time, but it was necessary to film as quickly as possible.
Longer filming means more money spent on making the show.
Most importantly, the team didn’t have much extra video already filmed.
They had already shown two episodes of
So, PD Gong planned to film a lot today. He wanted to focus on Woojin making furniture and film quickly. This was to get enough video for up to six episodes.
To do that, Woojin had to finish all of the remaining furniture today.
That’s why Woojin had to work as quickly as possible by himself.
“Woojin-ssi, how long do you think it will take to make all the furniture?”
“Hmm…”
“Around 10 PM? 11 PM? It would take that long to finish everything, right?”
Woojin shook his head at PD Gong’s question.
“No.”
“Then…? Do we have to film until morning?”
The director of photography looked worried when PD Gong asked that.
No one likes working overtime, especially until morning.
“Haha. Don’t worry, PD-nim. I’ll finish it by 5 PM.”
“Yes? Is that possible?”
“I want to finish filming quickly and go home too. Why would I lie?”
Woojin had already cut all of the materials for today’s filming.
He hadn’t done it himself.
He was too busy to do that.
He had saved time by paying Go Jaeseong a little money.
He didn’t tell PD Gong.
Go Jaeseong didn’t get paid much money.
If Woojin told PD Gong, PD Gong might tell the director to ask for more money from the TV station.
Anyway, that’s why Woojin thought he could finish all of the remaining furniture in about five hours.
“Well, shall we get started then?”
PD Gong nodded, looking a little surprised.
“O-of course. The setup is ready.”
Woojin tilted his head and asked again.
“But, is there some kind of problem…?”
“There is a very small problem.”
“What kind of problem is it?”
Director Gong said to his team, “Mr. Woo-jin thinks filming might finish early. If so, we need to call the other three actors to come sooner.”
“Ah……” someone replied.
Even though there was a little confusion for a moment, filming preparations started quickly.
Woo-jin, now in his work clothes, began to carefully check all the tools.
Director Gong walked over to him. “Explain what you are doing clearly, and work as fast as you can,” he said with a smile. “The film crew will get shots from every angle, so don’t worry about them today.”
“Yes, sir,” Woo-jin nodded.
“Will my voice be used on TV?” Woo-jin asked.
“I’m not sure yet,” Director Gong admitted. “They might use a narrator, or maybe your own voice. It could even be someone else’s voice in the end.”
And so, Woo-jin’s fifth filming day for
*Thud- Thud- Thud*. *Zzzzzing!*
The workshop was usually noisy, but today it was strangely quiet.
Even though almost twenty people were there for filming, you could hear almost nothing except the sounds of Woo-jin working. *Thud- Thud- Thud* of his hammer hitting nails, and *Zzzzzing!* of the saw cutting wood. The air even smelled of fresh wood and sawdust.
‘Is this really a variety show filming?’ the director of photography thought, chuckling quietly to himself as he watched through the camera. They were supposed to be filming a quick montage of the work process.
But even when filming serious documentaries, he rarely filmed in such silence.
And there was something else funny about this. Even though it was so quiet, all the production staff were completely focused on Woo-jin.
They were so amazed by his work, they almost forgot they were filming!
Every time Woo-jin worked on something, he created something new. Pieces of wood became parts of furniture right before their eyes.
It was so fascinating that everyone watched with their mouths slightly open.
Woo-jin worked with amazing skill, like magic. Everyone watching was completely captivated, even those who knew nothing about woodworking.
It seemed like they could just show this footage without any editing, and viewers would be glued to their screens.
‘Real carpenters are incredible,’ PD Gong thought, deeply impressed as he watched Woo-jin quietly. ‘Viewers are going to love this. Maybe this episode will be a huge hit!’
He knew they couldn’t show all of this footage because of the show’s format. But he had a feeling they would use much more than they originally planned.
While the production staff was lost in watching Woo-jin’s work, Jae-yeop, Ria, and Su-ha arrived one after another. They were exactly two hours early, just as PD Gong had asked.
“Woo-jin is filming first, right, PD?” Jae-yeop asked, smiling brightly.
“Oh, you all came early!” PD Gong said, surprised but pleased.
Jae-yeop grinned. “You told us to rush because filming might end early today!”
“That’s right!” PD Gong chuckled.
“So, we all hurried over,” Su-ha added, nodding eagerly.
“Haha,” PD Gong laughed.
The three greeted the staff and quietly went to a corner of the set to watch Woo-jin. They would start filming after Woo-jin finished this part. For now, they were just watching, like everyone else.
And just like the production staff, the three actors became hypnotized by Woo-jin’s work.
“Wow……” Jae-yeop whispered, amazed. “How is he working so fast?”
“He must have been so frustrated last week trying to work at our slow pace,” Su-ha said, shaking her head in wonder.
“I know, right?” Ria chimed in. “What’s that table in the back?”
“Huh…!” Jae-yeop pointed. “It looks like he already finished the table and chairs before we even got here?”
“Wow…!” Ria exclaimed again, her eyes wide.
Just as the cast members started watching closely, Woo-jin noticed them and signaled to PD Gong. It was time to stop filming him alone and start working with the cast.
“PD, should we stop filming here?” Woo-jin asked.
“Not a bad idea,” PD Gong agreed, nodding.
The art wall he was making was the easiest piece of furniture to build, even though he had put a lot of thought into its design. It was mostly simple work, just putting pieces together.
Woo-jin thought that for these last pieces, working with the cast would be faster than working alone. Plus, it would give them more footage to use on TV.
“Shall we work together from here?” Woo-jin called out to the cast.
“Oh, can we?” Jae-yeop asked, his eyes lighting up.
“Really?” Ria said, sounding excited.
As the three actors eagerly came onto the set at Woo-jin’s invitation, Woo-jin smiled and started explaining the next task. The camera was still on, filming everything, but no one cared. PD Gong had already given the thumbs up.
“Jae-yeop, have you ever heard of scrap wood?” Woo-jin asked.
“Scrap… wood?” Jae-yeop repeated, looking curious.
“We’re going to finish the art wall with a scrap wood look,” Woo-jin explained. “So, I should tell you about it first. Scrap wood is a style where you use different kinds of wood pieces together. Imagine using pieces of wood with different colors and patterns to make something look old and interesting. Dutch designers used old wood and metal to make new things that were even better than the old materials. But we’re not using old wood today. We’ll use new wood, but cut it into different sizes and put it together to get that scrap wood look.”
Jae-yeop listened carefully, his eyes sparkling with interest. “So, we cut the wood, and you put it all together, right?”
“That’s about right,” Woo-jin confirmed.
Su-ha rolled up her sleeves, ready to work. “Shall we start then?”
Ria, wanting to help, grabbed a large, old-fashioned saw from the corner.
Woo-jin saw her and stopped her quickly, a surprised look on his face. “Ah, noona! Wait! Please! Not that one!”
“Why?” Ria asked, confused. “You said we need to cut wood. Isn’t this what we use to cut wood?”
“When would we ever cut with that old thing…… We can do it with a machine, so put that down and come over here,” Woo-jin exclaimed, pointing to a machine.
“The filming was pleasant today as well. With everyone in a good mood, there was no reason why the scene wouldn’t come out beautifully.”
