Seokhyun, who was known as a gaming fanatic, hadn’t logged into any games for a while.
Despite the many messages from his fans who waited for him every evening, he ignored them all.
[Hey, Seokhyun! Are you really not coming online today?]
[Even Jayden hasn’t been on the game lately. Is something going on between you two?]
[Please, just one game together. I’m begging you.]
[Please play! I need your help to win more games.]
[Sorry, friends. I’ve been a bit busy lately.]
[Sniff sniff…….]
Seokhyun had stopped playing games because he was busy, but not with work at WJ Studio.
The model-making department at WJ Studio had recently hired many talented people, so Seokhyun only needed to oversee the work.
So, what was keeping Seokhyun so busy that he had even stopped playing his games?
It started on Seokhyun’s birthday.
“Wait a minute… This is an iPhone, isn’t it?”
“That’s right.”
“It looks like the new model that just came out?”
“That’s right, Seokgu. This is a special gift for WJ Studio’s founding member.”
“Bloody Hell! An iPhone for a birthday present! You’re insane, Woojin! I want an iPhone too!”
“Quiet, Jayden. iPhones are only for founding members.”
“I’m a founding member too!”
“Do you even know what a founding member is?”
“Holy! How would I know that!”
Seokhyun was touched that Woojin gave him an iPhone for his birthday.
Even though they were close friends, they had rarely celebrated each other’s birthdays.
Woojin’s gift was an iPhone. Seokhyun was really touched that Woojin had given him something he wanted, even though he didn’t show it.
‘It would be perfect if it weren’t the same phone as Woojin’s… He could have bought a different color….’
This birthday present made Seokhyun feel grateful and loyal to Woojin.
Because of this, Seokhyun wanted to help Woojin in some way, even though Woojin didn’t ask.
‘Now that I think about it, I don’t really have much to do lately. Is there anything I can help our boss with?’
It wasn’t that Seokhyun had nothing to do. He managed the model-making team to ensure they produced the best work efficiently.
However, unlike Woojin, Seokhyun didn’t have much experience with business development.
He wasn’t good at talking, so he couldn’t do sales, and he couldn’t think of ways to expand the model-making business.
As he worried, Seokhyun remembered a conversation he had with Woojin.
‘That’s right. Woojin said he wanted to study visual scripts, didn’t he?’
It was early November, after a big design competition deadline.
They had talked about it in Woojin’s office at WJ Studio.
[I want to learn a bit about programming.]
[What did you say?]
[I’m not saying I’m going to learn real programming. How could I? It’s not something you can learn easily.]
[Then what is it?]
[I want to learn algorithms, specifically those used in design tools. I want to study visual scripts like Grasshopper in Rhino.]
Seokhyun became interested in visual scripts for design.
Woojin explained that they could be used in model making.
Visual scripts could create 3D modeling files, and machines could use these files to create models.
‘That sounds fun?’
The most well-known machine for this was a 3D printer.
However, in 2011, 3D printing wasn’t very practical because the quality was low for the price.
But even without 3D printing, machines like CNC machines could use modeling files.
WJ Studio already had several of these machines.
If he learned visual scripts, he could create a wider range of models.
Algorithms and computers could neatly create special designs that were hard to calculate and design by hand.
‘Should I study it in advance?’
Seokhyun, who had studied computer engineering, could learn visual scripts faster than Woojin.
It was the closest thing to human language compared to computer languages like C.
Visual scripts were images of functions programmed by programmers, shown as icons. This helped people who weren’t programmers understand computer languages made of 0s and 1s.
“First, I need to install Rhino, right?”
Seokhyun downloaded Rhino, which was sold cheaply to students, and had been studying it in his free time since the end of last year.
He also bought books to help him learn Rhino.
Before using Grasshopper, which used visual scripts, he needed to model with Rhino.
As he played with Rhino, he became fascinated with modeling.
Modeling was creating models in a 3D virtual space using computer tools.
It was fun for Seokhyun, who loved models.
“This is… why is this so fun?”
He could also turn the 3D modeling files into drawings and create real objects with the CNC machine and laser cutting machine in WJ Studio.
This was heaven for Seokhyun.
He could study Rhino and visual scripts, and also use it for his hobby of remodeling parts.
Seokhyun had been modeling since November and naturally stopped playing games.
“I should have gone to the design department… They get to do this fun work all the time. Should I transfer to the design department at school, even now…….”
He didn’t tell Woojin he was studying separately.
Seokhyun was still learning, so he wanted to surprise Woojin with his amazing work later.
But Jayden knew about this. Jayden was Seokhyun’s closest friend, besides Woojin.
Seokhyun needed someone to see his progress.
“Seokhyun! Did you really model this?”
“Hehe. I told you. I didn’t know modeling was so fun.”
Also, Jayden was a very enthusiastic friend.
“Bloody Hell! Seokhyun is better at modeling than Woojin?!”
“Woojin doesn’t have time to practice like me.”
“No. Seokhyun is definitely a genius. Of course, not as much as this Jayden.”
Jayden was also studying modeling, so he understood Seokhyun’s work.
“You know, Rhino is different from Max in how you model things.”
“How is it different?”
“Max is better for creating a mass and cutting or expanding it, but Rhino uses vectors a lot.”
“Vectors, like direction values?”
“It’s hard to explain. Rhino is better for modeling objects with many curved surfaces, like irons or cars.”
It helps to have someone who understands what you’re studying.
“Just wait, Jayden. When I get better at Rhino, I’ll show you something really cool.”
When Seokhyun was bored, he would call Jayden to sit next to him.
This also helped Jayden.
“Damn it! I don’t think I can do it, Seokhyun.”
“What?”
“I have to study modeling with Seokhyun too.”
“Hmm……. You too?”
Seeing Seokhyun create models, especially supercars, Jayden became interested in modeling again.
Jayden couldn’t just watch.
“I must get a better score than Woojin in modeling this semester.”
“Why?”
“To prove how great I am.”
“Well, whatever. It’s less boring than doing it alone.”
Jayden joined Seokhyun’s modeling party in early January.
They always met at Yuria’s Cafe Fresco.
Seokhyun had been studying at home, but he changed the location for Jayden.
Yuria had met them at the Christmas party and welcomed them to her cafe.
She would often give them free desserts.
Once, Jayden asked Yuria a favor.
“Yuria, you must never tell Woojin that we come here.”
“Huh? Why?”
“Seokhyun and I are preparing something amazing without Woojin’s knowledge.”
“Amazing thing?”
“It’s like WJ Studio’s secret weapon. So, you must never tell him.”
“Hehe, I don’t know what it is, but I understand.”
Seokhyun and Jayden were secretly working together on something big.
No one knew how this would help Woojin in the future.
Even Seokhyun and Jayden didn’t know it would greatly help Woojin’s pavilion production.
