Woojin had flown on airplanes in his past life, traveling for tourism and business. However, this was his first time flying since his regression, and he had forgotten the agony of a long-haul flight.
“Oh, my back……” Woojin groaned. His muscles screamed in protest as soon as he stood up, stiff from sleeping hunched over.
Seokhyun, pulling his suitcase, clicked his tongue and scolded Woojin. “Tsk, I knew it from the moment you started sleeping with your neck bent like that, Seo Woojin.”
“You should have woken me up!” Woojin retorted.
“I’m not sitting next to you, how am I supposed to wake you up?” Seokhyun replied.
Pressing his stiff neck muscles, Woojin wheeled his suitcase out of the plane.
They arrived at Heathrow Airport, a large international airport representing England and one of the busiest in Europe. It felt huge and important, like a place where people from all over the world met. The airport buzzed with different languages and the sound of suitcases rolling on the floor.
“England, wow!” Soyeon exclaimed, looking around the airport with awe.
At Soyeon’s exclamation, Jayden, who had been walking behind, grinned. “Welcome to London. Welcome to my home, Soyeon.”
“Is all of London your home?” Soyeon asked jokingly.
Jayden laughed. “If you keep nitpicking like that, Soyeon won’t get to stay at my house!”
“……Sorry, Jayden,” Soyeon quickly apologized.
While in England, Woojin and his friends would be staying at Jayden’s main residence in London. According to Jayden, his house in London was much larger than his house in Hannam-dong, and there were separate rooms for guests. Woojin and Seokhyun would be staying in Jayden’s room, and Soyeon would be in the guest room.
London is known for being expensive to stay in. So, making Jayden angry was not a good idea for them.
After Jayden, Woojin’s friends all took their luggage and came out of the plane. Professor Jo Woonchan and Bruno walked out to the exit side by side.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been to Heathrow,” Bruno said softly.
Looking at Bruno, Jo Woonchan smiled and replied, “You don’t often have reason to come to England?”
“I don’t have much reason to come unless it’s for a conference,” Bruno answered.
“I heard you’re close to the British designer Kanass…” Jo Woonchan inquired.
“Ah. It’s true that I’m friends with Kanass, but is that friend ever really in England?” Bruno chuckled.
“Haha. Is that so?” Jo Woonchan responded.
“Isn’t he almost always residing in America?” Bruno added.
“I only met him once at the Vienna Conference last time, so I’m not really that close to him,” Jo Woonchan explained.
“Ah, I see,” Bruno acknowledged.
Heathrow Airport is located not far from the city center, and you can reach London Paddington Station in less than 20 minutes by using the Heathrow Express.
So Woojin’s group of six headed to Paddington Station. They followed Jayden through the busy airport, the sounds of announcements echoing around them. Outside, they found the Heathrow Express, a sleek train waiting to whisk them into the city. As the train sped along, Woojin watched the English countryside flash by – green fields and neat houses, so different from Korea.
“Jayden, how long does it take from Paddington Station to AA School?” Woojin asked.
“Hmm. I don’t remember well because it’s been a while, but it’ll be within 15 minutes by car,” Jayden replied.
“That’s close?” Woojin asked.
“So there’s no need to rush like that, Woojin. Let’s drop off our luggage today and have fun!” Jayden suggested.
The architectural design conference was being held at the AA School in London. AA School, one of the world’s best architecture schools, was selected as the venue for this conference.
So Woojin’s first interest upon arriving in England was inevitably AA School.
“Saying we should drop off our luggage first means we’re going to your house first?” Woojin asked.
At Woojin’s question, Jayden nodded and answered, “Of course!”
This time, Soyeon asked, “Is your house close to Paddington Station too?”
Jayden answered again, “It’ll take ten minutes? No. Fifteen minutes?”
“Where is it?” Soyeon inquired.
“Jayden’s house is in South Kensington,” Seokhyun chimed in.
“South…… Kensington?” Soyeon tilted her head, confused.
Looking at Soyeon, Jayden teased, “Why did you ask when you wouldn’t know even if I told you?”
“I guess you’re right,” Soyeon admitted.
But unlike Woojin and Soyeon, who didn’t know anything about English geography, Seokhyun widened his eyes and exclaimed, “Jayden! Your house is in South Kensington?”
“That’s what I’m saying,” Jayden confirmed.
Seokhyun hadn’t been to England that many times either, but he knew quite a bit about London because he liked the English football league so much.
“Wow. Jayden, you’re much richer than I thought!” Seokhyun exclaimed.
When Seokhyun tried to hug him with his arms wide open, Jayden waved his hand and stepped back. “That’s not true, Seokhyun. It’s a misunderstanding.”
“Woojin. Jayden said he’ll buy us all meals while we’re in England,” Seokhyun added.
“Excellent?” Woojin grinned.
“Seokhyun, I always say this……. The rich one is my dad, not me,” Jayden insisted.
“Anyway!” Seokhyun brushed it off.
Looking at the three men chattering noisily, Soyeon shook her head. But even so, she was a little curious, so she asked Seokhyun, “Is Kensington a wealthy neighborhood?”
“It’s like Gangnam in Korea, you know, a really rich and famous area in Seoul,” Seokhyun explained.
“Ah……?” Soyeon’s eyes widened.
“I think we need to treat Jayden a little better from now on,” Soyeon suggested.
Woojin interjected in their conversation. “I was already treating Jayden well.”
And Jayden, with an enraged expression, continued to interject. “Holy! Woojin is a liar.”
The Heathrow Express quickly took Woojin’s group to the center of London. London’s airport transportation was already very convenient in 2011.
So Woojin’s group, having arrived at Paddington, ended up splitting up.
“Then let’s all meet again tomorrow,” Jo Woonchan said.
“Professor, you can come to Jayden’s house too, you know?” Jayden offered.
“Haha. I can’t do that, Jayden. The academy has already booked a hotel for me, so there’s no reason to,” Jo Woonchan declined.
Jo Woonchan and Bruno moved straight to the accommodation booked by the conference organizers, and Woojin and his friends headed to Jayden’s house.
There was still a day left until the conference, so they decided to have their own time until then. Bruno and Jo Woonchan probably had their own schedules.
Woojin, who had seen the two off, spoke to Jayden. “Well, shall we get moving too?”
Jayden, with more excitement than ever, began to prance around excitedly. “Alright! I told my mom in advance, so let’s get breakfast as soon as we get home!”
At Jayden’s words, Soyeon couldn’t help but look a little embarrassed. “This…… I feel like it’s too rude to Jayden’s parents…….”
It was eight in the morning, UK time. Woojin also scratched the back of his head slightly, but there was nothing he could do. There was no alternative since the plan had already been made.
So the four took a taxi together and headed straight to Jayden’s house. The taxi drove through London streets, busy with red buses and black cabs. Jayden pointed out grand white buildings and green parks as they entered South Kensington. It felt different from the airport – quieter and more elegant, with big houses hidden behind trees.
As Jayden said, his house was located exactly 15 minutes away from Paddington Station, in the center of London.
They arrived at a large house, set back from the street behind a small garden. It was made of red brick and looked very grand, with big windows and a heavy wooden door. Woojin could hear birds singing in the trees around the house.
What greeted Woojin’s group there was a beautiful Asian woman who appeared to be middle-aged.
“Jayden!” she exclaimed.
“Mom!!” Jayden replied.
And the next moment, Woojin could feel his heart easing. Jayden’s mother very kindly greeted the three in Korean. “Welcome, everyone. You must be Jayden’s friends?”
Only then did Woojin’s group remember that Jayden’s mother was Korean.
Jayden’s mother, ‘Sujin Taylor,’ was a complete native of Seoul. Her real name before marriage, which she used in Korea, was Kwon Sujin. She enthusiastically welcomed Jayden and his friends, who had come early in the morning.
So much so that they were able to get a breakfast that was no different from what they ate in Korea as soon as they arrived in England.
“Thank you for being close to our Jayden,” Sujin said.
“You’re welcome. Thanks to Jayden, school life is fun, and I’m more grateful,” Woojin replied.
“That’s right, Woojin should be grateful to Jayden,” Jayden chimed in.
“Be quiet, Jayden. I’m talking to a guest,” Sujin scolded gently.
“Heung,” Jayden grumbled.
Woojin had guessed from Jayden’s handsome face that his mother, Sujin, had a youthful beauty that was hard to believe she was in her late forties. And another thing he learned was that she was also a designer.
Sujin Taylor was a fashion designer recognized even in the UK.
“I saw Korean news a while ago. And I was really surprised. Jayden boasted that he received the grand prize at SPDC, so I knew, but I didn’t know it was such a big award,” Sujin said.
“Ah, you mean the nursing home?” Woojin asked.
“Yes, it was a really wonderful building,” Sujin praised.
“Thank you,” Woojin replied.
So Woojin and the other aspiring designers were able to have a pretty enjoyable conversation with her.
The truth was that Woojin had vaguely thought of her as Jayden’s mother and thought it would be difficult, but when he actually met her, she had a completely opposite image from Jayden.
Jayden’s mother was so different from him that Woojin even wondered if she was really his mother. That was Woojin, Soyeon, and even Seokhyun. It was a feeling that everyone sitting in this place had in common.
‘Jayden’s mother is such a feminine and caring person…….’
‘Could Jayden have been picked up under the Tower Bridge in London……?’
However, the three people’s questions about how Jayden could possibly be Sujin’s son were answered less than an hour later.
While Sujin went to the kitchen to bring out dessert, a high-pitched voice that was almost identical to Jayden’s poured into the three people’s ears.
“Bloody Hell! Jayden!”
“Daddy!” Jayden replied.
“If you were coming home, you should have told me in advance, son!” Jayden’s father exclaimed.
“I think I’ve talked about it on the phone roughly fifteen times since last week, Dad,” Jayden countered.
“That can’t be. You said you were coming, but you wouldn’t have said it was today,” his father insisted.
“No. I said it exactly,” Jayden said.
“Hmm…….” Jayden’s father paused.
“Aren’t you too uninterested in Jayden?” Jayden asked.
“Never, Jayden. This dad is…….” his father started.
Unlike Sujin, who was questionable even when knowing that she was Jayden’s mother, Jayden’s father had a twin-like atmosphere to the point where you could recognize him as Jayden’s father even if you met him on the street.
But what surprised Woojin even more was not the fact that Jayden’s father was so similar to Jayden. However, it was because the identity of Jayden’s father, which he learned shortly after, was something he had never expected.
