Woojin was on his way to Mapo-gu, a place he hadn’t visited in a while.
He remembered Mapo-gu well. He used to be there all the time when they were building Cafe Fresco.
But this year, he hadn’t been back. Today was different. He was going because of Suha.
It was Suha’s housewarming party.
Suha was finally moving into the Mapo Clio Prestige apartment she bought two years ago.
“Woojin, where are you?” Suha asked over the phone.
“I’m almost there, Sis.”
“Everyone except you is here. Hurry up and come.”
“I told you I’d be late. I’m going as fast as I can.”
“Whatever!”
“Okay, okay! Just register my car, will you?”
“Wait… how did you know we even *have* visitor parking registration?”
“I designed that model house, remember?” Woojin replied.
“What does that have to do with it?”
“Just saying, I know Clio inside and out!”
“Show-off…”
“Anyway, my car number is 00가 0000.”
“Okay. I’ll register it.”
Woojin, seeing the green light, ended the call and kept driving. He was in a very good mood.
He had finished his tasks well, but more than that, he was happy to see his friends.
The people coming to Suha’s house were Jaeyeop and Ria. They were old friends from the show
Vroom-
Woojin, who even brought a nice bottle of wine as a gift, entered the parking lot of the Clio apartment.
Beep-
The gate recognized his car and opened, and Woojin drove into the parking lot.
‘The parking lot is well-designed,’ he thought.
But Woojin knew this Mapo Clio very well. It was strangely familiar, like a memory from another time.
It made sense. This apartment was already designed and ready to sell *before*… before things changed for him.
‘Even back then, Clio was a brand that felt new and modern,’ he thought.
When this apartment was built, this part of town wasn’t very fancy yet.
Because of this, they couldn’t charge too much, so the construction budget was tight.
Cheonwoong Construction wanted Clio to be a premium apartment, so it had to look as luxurious as possible.
‘It was amazing how they made such a luxurious apartment without spending too much money,’ he thought.
He’d been impressed before, and he was still impressed now. Woojin got on the elevator.
Maybe because he’d seen so many things change in his life recently, it was strange to see something exactly as he remembered it.
Ding-!
Woojin got out of the elevator, walked to Suha’s door, and rang the doorbell.
After a moment…
Click-
The door clicked open.
“Woojin is here?” Suha asked.
“Yeah, I’m here.”
“Hey you! Come in quick, the tteokbokki is getting cold!”
“Tteokbokki? What tteokbokki?”
“I’m showing off my cooking skills for the first time in a while.”
“Do I *have* to eat it?”
“Yes! Just try it, it’s actually good today!”
Woojin teased Suha, who was like a sister to him, and went inside.
Ria and Jaeyeop, who were already there, greeted Woojin.
“Woojin’s here?”
“Oh, look who it is, the successful CEO Seo!”
“It’s been a while, Sis. And it’s been a really long time, Jaeyeop.”
“I know. Show your face more often. Why is it so hard to see you these days?”
“Hey, you’re busy too.”
Woojin greeted his friends, sat down, and tried Suha’s tteokbokki.
It was good enough to pretend it was delicious.
“Is this place fancy enough for a big CEO like you, Seo Woojin?” Suha joked.
Woojin chuckled.
“You know me too well! Seriously though, I’m so happy I moved.”
“You really made a good decision buying it back then.”
“No need to say more! It was a great decision!”
Suha took a sip of cola and spoke again.
“Wait, I first met Seo Woojin at the Clio model house, didn’t I?”
“That’s right,” Ria agreed.
“Yeah, Suha told me! That’s amazing!”
Jaeyeop smiled.
“This house is special for you in so many ways, Suha.”
“Haha, totally agree!”
The four of them hadn’t been together in a long time, and the atmosphere was great. Woojin laughed and chatted happily.
It was a pleasant summer night in July.
Meanwhile, at the international airport…
The Spanish architect Mateo was there. He was flying somewhere.
Mateo looked very happy as he checked in.
He was happy because this trip wasn’t for work.
Mateo, who hadn’t taken a real vacation in years, had booked this flight just for fun.
‘It feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve come to the airport with such a relaxed mind,’ he thought.
Mateo was a world-renowned architect who traveled often.
His studio’s projects were all over the world. But this was his first vacation in years, and he was excited.
“Korea… Has it really been a year already?” he wondered.
About a year ago, Mateo had flown to Korea from this same airport. He remembered feeling very different then.
He was flying to Korea again, just like last year. But this time, everything was different.
When he flew to Korea last summer, it was one of the most desperate times in his life.
‘I booked a ticket in a hurry after hearing Bruno’s story… but I wasn’t really 100 percent sure when I got on the plane,’ he recalled.
Mateo had booked a ticket to Korea to find the answer to a difficult stadium design.
He could laugh about it now, but it was still a crazy memory.
‘I wonder if Bruno and Woojin are doing well,’ he thought.
Mateo smiled, thinking of Woojin. He reached into his pocket.
His smile widened as he pulled out a white envelope.
It was an invitation from Woojin.
“Mateo, The International Living Fair is in Seoul this year! It’s a really cool show, mixing Korean culture and design. My stuff is in the main hall – come if you can! – Woojin”
Inside was Woojin’s letter and a ticket to the fair at Coex.
Mateo had some free time now that his latest project was starting. He decided to visit Korea – to see his old friend Bruno *and* to meet Woojin.
‘Korean culture and design together… I can’t wait to see what that looks like,’ he thought.
Mateo had been to many design fairs before, so usually he wasn’t that excited about them.
But this mix of culture and design was something completely new.
Above all, he was looking forward to seeing the work of an architectural designer named ‘Seo Woojin’.
‘I hope I have a good time,’ Mateo finished checking in and boarded the plane, feeling happy.
The plane took off for Korea.
Meanwhile, in Seoul…
The drama
Now that the Icheon filming was done, the drama crew had moved to Seoul last week.
And in Seoul, they were filming mostly in Seongsu-dong.
The drama’s main character, Seohoo, was a rich businessman in the modern story. His house in the drama was set in
Today, Sunghayoung, the actress playing the female lead, Inseo, was filming in Seongsu-dong.
They were filming a scene where Seohoo and Inseo go on a date in Seoul Forest, without knowing who the other person really is.
“Cut! That’s a wrap!” the director called out. Everyone cheered.
“Thank you everyone!”
“Good job today!”
“Thanks, Director!”
Hayoung, who had just finished filming, smiled at Minwoo, the actor she was working with.
“Thanks, Minwoo, good work today.”
“No problem, thanks to you, filming was fast!”
“Don’t be so modest! You’re a really good actor, Minwoo.” Hayoung said.
“Thank you! I’ll do my best to make this drama a hit!”
“I hope so!”
The set was cleaned up quickly, maybe because there wasn’t much makeup or special equipment needed for today’s scene.
Before leaving, Hayoung saw Minwoo again and asked him,
“Weekend tomorrow, finally!”
“Yeah, Senior, weekend!”
“What are you doing this weekend, Minwoo?” Hayoung wasn’t interested in him romantically. Minwoo was younger and just a friendly junior colleague.
She was just being polite. Minwoo smiled and answered,
“I think I’m going to a design fair this weekend.”
“A fair?” Hayoung was a little surprised. Minwoo went on,
“Oh, wait, I should have told you! There’s a design fair at Coex starting tomorrow, and some of our drama sets are going to be there!”
Hayoung nodded, finally understanding.
“Oh! That fair starts tomorrow!”
“Yeah! I know CEO Seo a bit, so I’m going to check it out.”
“Oh, really?” Hayoung’s eyes sparkled.
“Yeah, yeah! You should come too, if you’re free! You live close by, right?”
“Yeah, Coex is only 20 minutes from my place.”
Hayoung looked curious.
Having filmed in the Icheon set, she knew how amazing it was.
She wondered what it would look like to see part of that set at Coex.
‘How could they fit that huge set inside Coex? Could they even make it look as good indoors?’ Hayoung chatted a bit more with Minwoo, then said goodbye and got into her van.
Leaning back in her seat, Hayoung thought. She didn’t have plans for the weekend… maybe it would be fun to visit the Coex Living Fair.
