April arrived. The busy first semester of freshman year had ended, and warm spring breezes had begun to blow.
During that time, many things had happened to Woojin. He made friends with his classmates and went to his classes as much as possible, even with his busy schedule.
Woojin was especially good at ‘Basic Drafting’ and ‘Digital Spatial Graphics.’
This made sense.
Woojin had probably drawn more blueprints than even Professor Park Junmin, so there was no way he could fail Basic Drafting.
He also had experience with SketchUp, a modeling program. So, even though the program was different, he was the best among the freshmen in the ‘Digital Spatial Graphics’ course, where they learned 3D modeling using 3D Max.
Woojin realized he had more talent for 3D modeling than he thought.
‘It was so difficult when I was learning on my own… Who knew it would be so fun when someone taught me?’
Of course, not all subjects were easy.
He found the ‘Visual Graphics’ course, which used Photoshop and Illustrator, as difficult as the other freshmen.
The ‘Spatial Design’ and ‘Introduction to Spatial Design Studies’ classes made him sleepy as soon as they started, no matter how hard he tried.
Theoretical lessons that were not about designs that could actually be used were like poison to Woojin.
The only good thing was that Jayden, the future star designer, was falling asleep just as much as he was.
But Woojin was happy.
‘Still, this is great.’
He knew that choosing ‘university’ after his regression was the right decision.
Even if he only thought about ‘learning,’ and not the connections and the university’s reputation, K University’s Department of Design was better than Woojin had expected.
So Woojin always did his best. The excellent blueprint on the blackboard after class was proof of this.
Soyeon, who was next to Woojin in class, compared Woojin’s blueprint to her own and shook her head in amazement.
“Wow, Oppa, you didn’t just spend your time drawing blueprints by hand somewhere, did you?”
“I did some field work,”
Hyejin said.
“That part-time job was definitely one where you copied blueprints by hand.”
Woojin agreed.
“Well, something like that.”
“Ugh… That’s cheating.”
Hyejin nodded at Soyeon’s words.
“Unnie is right! You’re totally cheating!”
Woojin looked at Hyejin and chuckled. These days, Hyejin was full of energy. She was already lively, but recently she had been in an even better mood.
The reason was that Hyejin was no longer single.
‘I didn’t think they’d start dating so fast.’
Hyejin, who had talked about going on blind dates, had finally started dating Seonggwan.
Woojin hadn’t met Seonggwan yet because he was busy after being discharged from the military. The two of them had already started dating after being introduced.
It was a strange situation, but Woojin decided to be positive.
‘Hmm, they’re both good friends. Good things are good, I guess.’
He wasn’t envious. He thought work was more fun than dating.
‘I couldn’t even sleep because I was trying to finish the model-making… If I had started dating, I wouldn’t have been able to meet them and would have been dumped.’
Woojin was thinking about this as he folded his drafting board on the table. He said to Soyeon,
“Let’s go get some snacks at the main building, Soyeon-ah. Hyejin’s probably already gone on a date.”
Soyeon nodded, glanced at Hyejin, and said,
“That’s right, couples should get out of this sacred lecture hall.”
The criticism quickly changed from Woojin to Hyejin, but Hyejin didn’t seem bothered. She was smiling and giggling even when they told her to leave.
“If you’re jealous, you two should date too.”
“Us?”
Soyeon seemed to misunderstand Hyejin and looked flustered.
Woojin didn’t see her expression and said,
“Hey, forget it. Tell Seonggwan to come to school sometime. I’m going to get him to buy us something delicious.”
“My oppa is busy because he just returned to school after being discharged, you know?”
“Ew, ‘my oppa.’ Creepy……”
“Ahem, ahem.”
Soyeon realized she had misunderstood and cleared her throat. She got up from her seat. When she was embarrassed, it was best to change the subject.
“I’m hungry. Let’s go eat cup rice, Oppa.”
“Sure, let’s do that.”
The three of them stood up and left the lecture hall.
As they left the Design building and walked along the campus, a warm spring breeze blew gently. Blind dates were a common topic for freshmen at this time. It seemed that it was the same for Soyeon and Hyejin.
“By the way, Hyejin-ah,”
“Yes, Unnie.”
“What day is our blind date next week?”
Hyejin paused to remember and then said,
“Um, maybe Tuesday? I don’t really remember. Anyway, I can’t go. Hee hee.”
Hyejin was rubbing salt in the wound, so Soyeon shook her head and said,
“I’ll have one soon too, just you wait.”
“Are you going to find someone by going on a blind date?”
“I don’t… know. If possible?”
Woojin and Hyejin shook their heads at Soyeon’s words. They knew that Soyeon was just talking like someone who had everything.
Soyeon was the most popular of the three.
“Unnie, just lower your standards a little. Why are you always complaining about being single when you’re the one who rejects everyone?”
“W-When did I ever!”
“I heard everything from Seulbi and Inyeong last week. Two people asked for Unnie’s number at the blind date and took it.”
Woojin thought Soyeon was so pretty that it was hard to compare her to anyone else in the Department of Design. And Woojin’s taste was pretty normal.
Everyone knew that Soyeon was popular from the beginning of the semester.
“What’s your ideal type? I’ll find someone for you. If you just show me your picture, I can bring you anyone except celebrities. Ah, if I do well, maybe even celebrities……”
Woojin listened to Hyejin and Soyeon’s conversation with interest. He was also curious about Soyeon’s ideal type.
Soyeon scratched the back of her head and said quietly,
“Um, I… I don’t have high standards. Someone fun, a little kind, and a little tall……?”
Hyejin was dumbfounded.
“What? Ha… You might as well ask me to bring you someone as handsome as an idol. That would be easier.”
Woojin also said timidly,
“If it’s a fun, kind, and tall guy, isn’t that me? No, it is me?”
Hyejin said firmly instead of Soyeon,
“That’s not it.”
Hyejin argued with Woojin a few more times, then left them and hurried away. She said she had to go before her boyfriend Seonggwan’s class ended, and disappeared without looking back.
Woojin and Soyeon didn’t stay together for long either. After chatting for another ten or twenty minutes at the snack bar, they both had their own plans.
Woojin walked her to the front of the College of Liberal Arts building on his way to the studio.
“Philosopher Han Soyeon, fighting.”
“You wanna die?”
“Today, let’s think about the psychology of love.”
“What psychology of love.”
“Why aren’t there any men I like? Maybe I just hate men who like me for no reason… I wonder if I have some incurable disease. That’s what I’m talking about.”
“Shut up. It’s not like that.”
Woojin teased Soyeon and then smiled and walked towards the back gate of the school. Seeing Soyeon’s red cheeks was more fun than he had thought.
“Hmph, anyway, today is… Finally, is it the day?”
Woojin checked the time. It was about 3:55 PM. He had about an hour until his meeting with Department Head Park Kyungwan, so it was time to leave.
Oh Juhyung, the sales manager of Chunwoong Construction, had been very tired recently. He had traveled to five countries in the past month for business.
Today, as soon as he got off the plane, he had to go straight to the company for the brand launch meeting.
Of course, no one would stop him if he went home to rest. Chunwoong Construction was not a company that forced employees to work on the day they returned from a business trip.
Unless it was a meeting, there were no other plans for today. But Juhyung had to come to the company to improve his own performance.
‘If I miss the brand launch meeting… I’ll be in trouble.’
It wasn’t that executives would target him for missing the meeting.
However, many things would be discussed at this meeting. If he wasn’t there, the meeting might go in a way that was bad for the sales department.
If the brand launch was successful, the other departments would get all the credit. If it wasn’t successful, his department, which hadn’t been able to attend the meeting, would take all the blame.
‘Let’s finish the meeting and go home to rest. The business trip report is next week anyway… And tomorrow is my day off.’
Oh Juhyung got off the elevator and walked quickly to the conference room. There were still about 5 minutes left until the meeting, but he wanted to get there early to drink water and think.
However, when Juhyung arrived at the conference room, he was surprised by what he saw.
‘Huh? What are they doing?’
Even though the meeting was about to start, everyone was gathered in front of the platform, looking at something. There were so many people that he couldn’t see what they were looking at.
‘Did something happen while I was on a business trip?’
Juhyung wanted to know what was happening, so he walked into the conference room. But he didn’t go to the platform. He went to Park Kyungwan, who was sitting alone and guarding his seat.
