Soyeon, the team leader, was the first to look puzzled.
“Huh? Gyeonggi Province?”
K University was in northern Seoul, and Gyeonggi Province wasn’t far northwest. But because they didn’t go there often, it felt like a long trip.
Yeyeong didn’t seem worried. “It’s not that far, older sister. You can take Line 3 from Jongno 3-ga to Samsong Station directly.”
The team checked the subway map on their phones.
It was just over an hour from K University to Samsong Station by subway.
That wasn’t a problem for the young students.
Another team member who lived in Ilsan agreed. “Don’t underestimate Goyang City! It’s a new city!”
“Ilsan is the new part of Goyang City.”
“Ilsan is in Goyang City!”
While the team argued, their bus arrived.
Yeyeong seemed excited as she got on the bus. She liked her choice for the field trip.
“There’s a really trendy cafe that just opened near Samsong Station. I thought we could go there today. Jiwon, have you heard of it?”
Jiwon, who lived in Goyang, nodded. “Yes! I heard a big cafe opened near KBC! Yuria even posted about it online!”
Maybe it was because they were talking about her hometown, or because they were escaping school. Jiwon was becoming more energetic.
Soyeon became curious and started listening. “Really? A cafe that Yuria posted about online?”
Jiwon was happy Soyeon was interested. “Yes! I wanted to go anyway. I can’t believe Yeyeong found it!”
The further they got from school, the more the students seemed to wake up.
But Seonbin didn’t seem to be getting any better.
But Seonbin not getting better didn’t change the general feeling.
“Was the name Cafe Fresco?”
“That’s right, Yeyeong! That was the name!”
Soon, the team members, except for Seonbin, were excitedly chatting as they entered the Jongno 3-ga station.
They felt like they were on a picnic as they got on Line 3.
But Soyeon was puzzled as she listened to Jiwon and Yeyeong on the subway.
‘Cafe Fresco? Why does that name sound so familiar?’
Soyeon hadn’t been outside Seoul recently.
She wondered why the name of the cafe in Goyang City sounded so familiar.
Woojin drove out for a change of scenery for the first time in a while.
He wanted to spend time with his new friends, but he also had a meeting.
He was happy that both events were at the same place.
Woojin quickly finished his assignment and drove to Samsong Station.
He felt a little guilty for not doing his best on the assignment.
‘I think I made the presentation too carelessly… I hope Professor Yoon is understanding.’
Professor Yoon Chi-hyung, who was in charge of the ‘Understanding Commercial Space’ course, was also the head of the Department of Spatial Design.
Professor Yoon was kind and popular, even though he seemed a bit strict.
But if Woojin didn’t get a good grade, he would think Professor Yoon was a bad professor.
Woojin’s phone rang when he was about five minutes away.
“Hello?”
“Ah, Nuna. I’m almost there.”
“I’ll park and go in soon. Order the drinks.”
“I’ll have an Americano, light.”
“Use my name when you order!”
Woojin hung up and parked near Samsong Station.
He was meeting at ‘Cafe Fresco,’ but the parking lot was probably full.
Cafe Fresco had been open for over a month and was always crowded.
He was meeting there because of Cafe Fresco’s success.
‘Seokjung must be happy these days.’
Kang Seokjung, the CEO of Cafe Fresco, had become good friends with Woojin after their last meeting.
Seokjung had suggested it first.
Woojin was surprised because Seokjung was much older.
Woojin saw no reason to refuse connections with a wealthy businessman, so he agreed.
Woojin parked in a public lot and walked toward Cafe Fresco.
The area around Samsong Station looked old, but Woojin knew it would change.
In two years, the Samsong District Land Development Project would be finished, and new apartments would be built.
After 2015, it would become a small new city.
‘Around 2020, the KBC New Headquarters will be worth ten times more, right?’
But Woojin didn’t plan to invest there yet.
The Samsong District wouldn’t be recognized until 2016-17.
Until then, there were better investment opportunities.
‘I need to grow the business quickly and be able to bid on land around 2015.’
He wanted to build an apartment complex.
In 2010, the construction capacity assessment would have to be about 500 billion won.
WJ Studio, which barely made 1 billion won, had a long way to go.
But Woojin didn’t think it was impossible.
He had already achieved a lot in just six months.
Capital grows faster as it gets bigger.
That’s only true if someone capable is in charge.
Woojin thought about this as he walked toward Cafe Fresco.
The cafe was crowded, even though it was very large. It was hard to find a seat.
But Woojin had reserved a business room on the second floor.
The people waiting for him were already drinking coffee.
“Wow, the youngest is the latest?”
It was Yoon Jaeyeop.
“I came right after class. That’s why I said we should meet later.”
“Class? So fresh,” Jaeyeop said.
Suha and Ria were also there.
“Our youngest! Come in. The drinks are here.”
“It feels new to see you like this,” Ria said.
Woojin was meeting the cast of
Being consistent is more important than being amazing.
Yuria was a good example of this.
She debuted in a girl group as a teenager, but the group failed.
She stayed in the entertainment industry and worked hard for almost eight years. In 2009, at twenty-six, she became famous with a solo album.
People wondered why she was only becoming popular now, since she was talented and pretty.
Many talented singers never become famous.
But Yuria’s hard work paid off.
She had been in the entertainment industry for a long time and was interested in someone.
The man in front of her was that person.
“Nuna, you didn’t pay for this, did you?”
“No. I said it was for Woojin, so they made it free.”
“That’s good. These desserts look like they cost over 50,000 won.”
“Hey, maknae. Are you looking down on Ria? She makes a lot of money. You’re worried about 50,000 won…”
“Hyung, I’m not worried about Ria Nuna spending 50,000 won.”
“Then?”
“I’m glad I didn’t miss the chance to get it for free.”
Ria laughed at Jaeyeop, who was speechless.
“He’s unique.”
“Woojin, do you go to a creativity academy?”
“There’s no such academy, Hyung. And I live in Gaepo-dong. Why do you keep saying Daechi?”
“Daechi-dong is close. I lived there for years.”
The gathering was enjoyable because of Jaeyeop and Ria.
But when Woojin joined, the conversation became even more lively.
Ria was happy to be laughing and chatting comfortably.
It had been a long time since she had a private gathering with people from work.
‘It’s nice to talk to people who don’t treat me like a celebrity.’
Yuria felt uncomfortable meeting non-celebrities.
She didn’t like being fawned over, and many people wanted something from her.
So Ria was amazed by Woojin.
He was the first non-celebrity to ask her to meet.
Yuria picked up her glass, took a sip of coffee, and enjoyed the aroma.
She was comfortable, the space was beautiful, and the coffee and desserts were delicious.
‘This coffee is amazing.’
Ria looked at Woojin, who was talking with Suha.
She suddenly had a thought.
“By the way, Woojin, I just thought of something.”
“Yes, Nuna.”
“Does Cafe Fresco do franchises?”
“Franchises?”
“I like it here. If you can connect me with the CEO, I want to open a franchise.”
Ria had recently bought a building in Sinsa-dong.
She thought it would be nice to have this cafe in her building.
She also needed to find a good tenant.
It was a simple thought.
“Franchise…”
Woojin paused.
Then he looked at Ria with a meaningful expression.
“Why? Nuna, did you buy a building?”
Ria’s eyes widened.
