◈ 630. Doubting My Own Judgment
Rembrary looked at Shin Jooyoon in surprise.
“Anchovy?”
It wasn’t just putting it away; it was like he was getting rid of it with all his might. It was unusual.
As Rembrary stared blankly, dumbfounded, Shin Jooyoon even flicked off the part his fingertip had touched.
“Did you catch that, that thing? What was it.”
Rembrary was about to say, ‘Jealousy because Tae-ri and I went on a trip alone,’ but Shin Jooyoon answered before even hearing the explanation.
“Probably. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s something like that.”
At that innocent answer, Rembrary gave him a pitiful look.
“How petty.”
Shin Jooyoon, who was dusting off his clothes, frowned and looked at Rembrary.
“Petty, you say?”
“Never mind. It could be.”
However, Rembrary, considerate of the other person, didn’t pursue the topic further. Instead, he sighed, settled comfortably in the passenger seat, and said,
“Just take me home. I’ll have to try the dungeon again tomorrow.”
Shin Jooyoon, who thought Rembrary was going to ask if he was cursed, finally realized that the word the other person was trying to say didn’t seem to be ‘curse’.
But when he tried to ask again, Rembrary was already leaning deeply into the chair, half-closing his eyes as if he were asleep.
Should I wake him up and ask what he meant? After pondering for a while, Shin Jooyoon suddenly felt unpleasant.
Even though everyone in the world knew they were close friends, the other side didn’t seem to care at all that Shin Jooyoon had lost his memory.
He wasn’t deliberately showing that he had lost his memory, but wouldn’t there be at least some hint?
Later, when Rembrary even made himself comfortable and leaned the chair back as if he was going to sleep, Shin Jooyoon felt a bit angry and asked, feeling suffocated,
“Don’t you have anything to say to me? You said we were friends?”
“What are you talking about?”
“You said there was a problem. Don’t I look like a problem to you? You said we were friends?”
“Why didn’t you answer your phone?”
“You’re quick to ask. You said you were my friend.”
“?”
How many times is ‘friend’ appearing in one minute? Rembrary, who had been closing his eyes with the chair reclined, opened his eyes in bewilderment.
Right now, Shin Jooyoon was acting like a sandworm, not an anchovy.
“What’s wrong?”
“Suddenly, my phone went dead. It won’t even charge. It barely started working properly this afternoon.”
“Oh, dear.”
Is that why he’s so shocked? Rembrary clicked his tongue and closed his eyes again. Anyway, he was tired, so he was going to take a nap and try the dungeon again tomorrow.
Glancing at that figure, Shin Jooyoon frowned again.
His secretary and butler all said that this blond brat was a friend who had come between Tae-ri and him and stuck to them like a team.
Coming between Tae-ri and him meant that he had taken the position of ‘that kid’.
But this blond guy with the strange way of speaking didn’t have even a whisker’s worth of resemblance to ‘that kid’.
His *maltu* [manner of speaking] was weird, and he kept talking down to him.
Even though the three of them were friends, he called Tae-ri ‘Tae-ri *ssi*’ [a formal title] and him by the ridiculous nickname ‘anchovy’.
Shin Jooyoon couldn’t believe that he had given everything to this blond guy with the strange way of speaking and been close to him.
Could it be that he was being threatened?
Or was Tae-ri just forced to keep him around because she liked this blond guy?
No matter how much he looked, the other person was just sleeping peacefully, so it seemed like he was comfortable around here… Shin Jooyoon shook his head and started the car.
The car smoothly went down the small road near Dungeon 1-5, then merged onto the main road, and quickly passed the road with concrete chunks scattered here and there.
All the while, checking the way with a half-fallen sign and the navigation, his so-called friend was busy sleeping.
He didn’t say a word, and he didn’t even say thank you for coming.
Every time Shin Jooyoon stopped the car at a signal, he wanted to ask Rembrary how he had become friends with Tae-ri.
‘His *maltu* is weird, and he’s even lazy.’
Shin Jooyoon clicked his tongue inwardly and shook his head.
* * *
It wasn’t just Shin Jooyoon who thought the other person was strange.
Rembrary, who had been sleeping comfortably in the car, opened his eyes and asked in bewilderment when he realized that this wasn’t his house in a good school district.
“Why did you come to your house?”
Looking at Shin Jooyoon while unbuckling his seatbelt, he stared blankly ahead and answered.
“You said you were going to go into that dungeon again tomorrow.”
“I did.”
“Then you can sleep here, right?”
“That’s right.”
Rembrary, who agreed, opened the car door and went outside.
He didn’t even tell him whose house this was, but he acted without hesitation, as if he had been here before.
Shin Jooyoon, who had deliberately brought Rembrary to his house, slowly unbuckled his seatbelt and followed, watching Rembrary’s reaction.
Just then, the butler was opening the front door and coming out, and Rembrary, as if he knew the butler, quickly approached him and greeted him happily.
As the butler accepted the greeting and glanced at him, Shin Jooyoon gestured to be quiet, telling him not to talk about him.
The butler looked bewildered but agreed.
Also, after a few words with Rembrary, he realized that Shin Jooyoon hadn’t told Rembrary about losing his memory yet, and he even asked Rembrary in a sensible way, as if for Shin Jooyoon to hear.
“Mr. Rembrary, are you hungry? Would you like your favorite pizza?”
He deliberately added ‘favorite pizza’ to give Shin Jooyoon information.
“I’d love to.”
As Rembrary readily answered, the butler glanced at Shin Jooyoon and added.
“If you wait a moment, I’ll prepare your favorite shrimp pizza and cola.”
Shin Jooyoon nodded, grateful for the butler’s small consideration.
Then he frowned half a beat later. Pizza? Cola? My friend’s taste is fast food?
Shin Jooyoon couldn’t believe it and looked at Rembrary.
To see if it was really his favorite menu, Rembrary was humming, “Pizza, pizza.”
Shin Jooyoon was greatly shocked.
He was more shocked that he was best friends with a fast-food-loving guy whose *maltu* was weird, whose age wasn’t similar, whose nationality and status were unclear, and whose personal information said he was a fake cult priest, than that the devil had erased his memory.
“What’s wrong?”
Noticing his expression, Rembrary stopped singing the pizza song and asked.
When Shin Jooyoon didn’t answer right away, holding his forehead, the butler looked at Shin Jooyoon and Rembrary alternately with concern.
Shin Jooyoon was torn between ‘I should pass it off naturally. Let’s say it’s nothing’ and ‘I still have to ask this,’ and couldn’t help but choose the latter.
“You’re not picky, are you?”
“What?”
“I mean, if pizza is served on the table, you don’t refuse it and eat it well, right? Pizza isn’t your favorite menu.”
Rembrary looked at Shin Jooyoon in bewilderment and nodded.
“I like pizza very much, but it’s not my favorite. I have many favorite foods.”
Shin Jooyoon was relieved. Right. His friend can’t have a fast-food taste. He’s just not picky.
“Then what’s your favorite food?”
Rembrary’s eyebrows drooped at the ends. Then, without answering, he shook his head and went inside.
What does that mean? Shin Jooyoon looked at the butler, unable to interpret the other person’s actions at all.
The butler bit his lip and hurriedly followed Rembrary into the house.
* * *
Shin Jooyoon took a few deep breaths and went inside the house.
The butler was nowhere to be seen, probably in the kitchen, and Rembrary was standing in front of the large television.
The television was showing breaking news about Rembrary, and the caption ‘Rembrary abandoned Jang Tae-ri’ was constantly scrolling across the screen.
Watching the scene of Rembrary in the screen walking away from the dungeon entrance alone, followed by a series of flashes, Shin Jooyoon became annoyed and found the remote to turn off the television.
He was very upset that the news was reporting as if Jang Tae-ri had already died inside the dungeon. He’ll be back in a few days without a trace.
As the image on the television turned black, Rembrary, who had been staring blankly at the TV, finally turned back and looked at him.
Shin Jooyoon thought he would protest, ‘Why are you turning off the television when I was watching it?’
Since there was bad news about him, he would be more angry because his pride was hurt. Or he would be embarrassed.
However, Rembrary unexpectedly smiled gently. Even though he had seen the news that spoke so badly about him earlier.
Why is he smiling like that? As he frowned in confusion, Rembrary came over, patted him on the shoulder, and smiled.
“Are you doing that because you think I’ll be heartbroken? I’m okay.”
What is he talking about again? Shin Jooyoon was dumbfounded and was about to retort, but unexpectedly, he felt a warm and comfortable sensation gradually spreading from the area where Rembrary had patted him a couple of times.
With a clear energy that washed away all the fatigue at once, Shin Jooyoon unknowingly put his arm on his shoulder.
‘Come to think of it, he said he was a healer.’
Shin Jooyoon recalled people saying ‘the only healer in the world’ when he searched for Rembrary.
He had completely forgotten about that part because he spoke so strangely. But he seems to be a healer in reality.
Shin Jooyoon belatedly realized. Could it be that he was close to him because of this ability?
It was a plausible assumption. He’s not just one of the few healers in Korea, but the only healer in the world.
If he’s such a healer, it would be worth putting up with his strange *maltu*, lending him a house, lending him a car, and giving him a cell phone.
Shin Jooyoon, having finally found a satisfactory assumption, felt a little more at ease.
‘So that devil is trying to make me hate him. It would be advantageous for them if we fell out.’
* * *
While the cook was making pizza and Rembrary was wandering around the house as he pleased, Shin Jooyoon turned on his cell phone and checked text messages, call history, and photo albums.
According to the secretary, he and that blond guy talked and texted a lot. But there was no such record on his phone at all.
The same goes for photos. The photos taken with Jang Tae-ri are fine, but there isn’t a single photo of that person.
It seemed that as the memory of Rembrary was erased, these records were also erased.
He was dumbfounded at how this was possible, but if he thought about it differently, this was not a human skill but a devil’s ability.
Even if it’s impossible with human common sense, it might be possible with that.
‘But it’s going to be difficult if I don’t have any memory at all.’
Shin Jooyoon looked around the photo album and recalled what the secretary had said to him worriedly when he handed him the cell phone.
-Mr. Rembrary is almost the main axis and center in dealing with demons. He was also cooperating with the president and Worldboom in various ways. There may be important information that was only exchanged between Mr. Rembrary and the president. I’m a little worried if that’s all been erased.
‘That’s right.’
If even the photos related to Rembrary were erased, then all related information must have been erased as well. Beyond mere friendship, he had to regain his memory at all costs.
‘The devil’s last words. I can’t remember only that. Could that be a keyword?’
