869. Help That Was Asked For
Rembrary thought he had said something very touching.
However, his benevolent smile after saving someone who had committed suicide out of grief was, somehow, eerie.
Duke Ladderun trembled, unable to contain his anger, and collapsed.
“Should I wake him again?”
As Rembrary reached out, the investigator, who had been넋을 놓고 있던 [넋을 놓고 있던 (neogeul nohgo itdeon) means ‘넋을 놓고 있다 (neogeul nohgo itda)’ which translates to ‘being absent-minded’ or ‘being in a daze’], hurriedly stopped him.
“It’s better to let him wake up on his own, Your Highness.”
“Isn’t this during the trial?”
“There’s no need to use Your Highness’s divine power on such a person.”
“How can you say that? Still, he was a follower of Redrin.”
Rembrary eventually woke the Duke again.
The awakened Duke stared at Rembrary with a miserable gaze.
His expression was so lifeless that even those watching, knowing that Duke Ladderun was a criminal, felt disturbed.
Duke Ladderun had just discovered the death of his only son.
The investigator, more afraid of Rembrary than the Duke, swallowed hard and took a half-step back.

Due to the chaotic atmosphere, the trial was eventually postponed to the next day.
“What should we do with Jeremi Ladderun’s body?”
“Wouldn’t it be better to send it to the Duke’s family?”
“But there’s no one at the Duke’s family right now…….”
Rembrary went to see Jeremi’s body for a moment and overheard the investigators whispering.
The investigators stopped talking as Rembrary approached and bowed sharply.
“Your Highness, what brings you here?”
Rembrary pointed to Jeremi with his eyes.
“I want to examine him.”
“Yes? The body?”
“I think he was manipulated by black magic.”
The investigators, no matter how smart, were not experts in black magic, so they readily stepped aside.
However, they couldn’t move too far away and stood at a certain distance.
Anxious gazes gathered behind Rembrary’s back.
Rembrary knelt on one knee in front of Jeremi’s body and touched the edge of his face, which had turned to stone.
Without using divine power, he sensed the energy and saw traces of black magic spreading thinly like blood vessels.
It seemed the opponent had manipulated the corpse with black magic.
This time, Rembrary infused divine power.
The divine power flowing through the corpse completely eliminated the remaining black magic.
As the corpse’s face gradually became peaceful, the investigators watching gasped.
“Is he, is he coming back to life?”
One of the investigators couldn’t help but ask.
“I don’t think so.”
Rembrary used his healing ability just in case.
The small scars on his face disappeared, but the dead Jeremi did not come back to life.
It seemed that certain conditions had to be met to revive someone.
Rembrary took his hand away and stood up.
The investigator approached and asked again.
“How is it, Your Highness? Should we dispose of the body in a special way? Bury it in the temple, or…….”
“No, the body has been purified.”
The investigators began to bow and pray towards Rembrary.
“God’s blessing.”
Rembrary muttered and walked towards the exit.
The investigators watched his retreating figure and clicked their tongues.
The reputation of Rembrary, a strong candidate for high priest, was well-known.
As the youngest prince of Libulen was achieving outstanding feats, they felt proud as citizens and officials of Libulen.
However, seeing him show such a priestly demeanor gave them a strange feeling.
“It feels like just yesterday he was running around with a sword as tall as himself…….”

The next day.
Rembrary asked several people and found the place where Duke Ladderun was imprisoned.
The guard was sitting blankly on a chair in front of the prison. He jumped up when Rembrary approached.
“Youngest Prince?”
“Where is Duke Ladderun?”
Rembrary looked over the guard’s shoulder.
The Duke was leaning against the wall like someone who had lost his soul.
As Rembrary approached the bars, dead fish-like eyes glanced at Rembrary.
But that was it; the Duke didn’t move.
“He was quite lively for a prisoner who had been locked up for a long time, but it seems the death of his heir yesterday was a big shock.”
The Duke still didn’t say anything.
Rembrary had several reasons for accepting the request to attend the trial as a witness.
He wanted to go home and see his family after a long time, he wanted to brag to his family about this and that, and he wanted to eat palace desserts.
Among the many reasons, he also wanted to interrogate Duke Ladderun himself. Duke Ladderun had joined hands with black magicians.
He didn’t expect Jeremi, who died yesterday, to appear manipulated.
“May I interrogate Duke Ladderun?”
“Yes?”
“May I interrogate Duke Ladderun?”
“Your, Your Highness?”
“Yes. I am an Inquisitor now.”
“I’m sorry, Your Highness.”
“You can’t?”
“No, that’s not it. But it will be useless.”
“My abilities are very great.”
“No, it’s not that, but the investigators and several Inquisitors have already interrogated him. They’ve found out everything they could and sent it to the temple.”
Rembrary looked at the guard with wide eyes. It was news as unexpected as Jeremi’s appearance.
“Isn’t there something they couldn’t find out?”
“Shall I show you?”
The guard went into a small door in the middle of the hallway.
After a while, the guard brought a box and handed it to Rembrary.
“You must look at it here.”
Rembrary sat on an empty chair and opened the box.
Inside were papers meticulously organized by the scribe, detailing the interrogation of Duke Ladderun.
Rembrary sighed as he scanned each document and unfolded the summary.
Soon, Rembrary put all the papers back in the box, closed the lid, and returned it to the guard.
“There’s a lot, right?”
As the guard said, they had found out everything they could, and all sorts of information were included.
While the guard went to put the box back, Rembrary walked to the bars and looked at the Duke.
The Duke was looking at Rembrary, but his eyes were unfocused. He didn’t say a word.
“You confessed why you started attacking me, even the cause.”
Rembrary spoke to himself.
The Duke still didn’t respond to Rembrary.
“The moment I saw that, I knew there was no need to see more.”
“…….”
“It’s a pity that the point where things started to go wrong was a misunderstanding.”
“…….”
“Didn’t you think that if I was going to talk about those children, I would have done it before going to the temple?”
“!”
Duke Ladderun belatedly flinched and looked at Rembrary.
Rembrary shook his head and turned around.
As he walked almost to the end of the basement stairs, a scream-like question was heard.
“Who is it!”
Rembrary turned only halfway. The Duke’s hands were out of the bars.
The Duke grabbed the bars as if he would tear them down and asked.
“Who killed that child! Please tell me the name, Your Highness! Please!”
Rembrary recalled Jeremi, whom he had last seen. He seemed to be trying to do something by attacking Lyderal.
Jeremi was in the hallway in front of the door…… and there was a black magician in the inner room.
But the black magician was covering his face with a cloak. Rembrary didn’t bother to check his face.
However, Rembrary didn’t want to say he didn’t know, so he just left.
Beyond the closing door, Duke Ladderun’s scream echoed loudly.

“Rembrary, do you have to be in a distant temple?”
Before Rembrary left, his sister stood there pretending to be nonchalant, but when the other family members stepped back, she approached slightly and asked.
“Why? Do you want me to be close?”
“There’s a temple next to the palace. Can’t you work there? Like commuting to work.”
Rembrary looked at his sister, brother, mother, and father in turn with regretful eyes.
Rembrary thought he should have left a few feathers behind. It would have been nice if he had shared them with his family.
However, Rembrary did not answer the question of staying at the temple next to the palace until the end.
Shortly after, the carriage departed for the Inquisitorial Office.
Rembrary listened to the sound of the wheels turning, the horse complaining, and the coachman talking to a holy knight.
The holy knights were talking among themselves on horseback and looked at the carriage.
Through the open window, they saw Rembrary taking a book out of his bag and opening it. He seemed calm for someone who had just parted with his family.
It wasn’t a question that needed to be answered, but for a moment, the holy knights were genuinely curious. Is he really okay?

Rembrary knew that the holy knights were glancing at him, but he didn’t care and just read the book.
This book was about the High Priests of Iira, but every time he read it, people kept getting surprised, so he changed the cover to make it look like an ordinary history book.
‘I wanted to interrogate Jeremi.’
Rembrary turned another page of the book.
Perhaps because it was neither fun nor interesting, he hadn’t made much progress even after reading it for several years.
Anyway, now that he knew Jeremi was already dead, Rembrary had to figure out on his own why he had given him this book.

Thanks to Rembrary’s halo, another safe carriage journey continued, with monsters unable to approach.
As the journey came to an end, a humid breeze blew through the muggy weather.
The tall, desolate gate of the Inquisitorial Office opened, and as the carriage slowly entered, the holy knights relaxed their shoulders.
Rembrary leaned his head against the back of the chair and thought as he looked out the window.
‘I need to have a proper conversation with the head of the Inquisitorial Office.’
He couldn’t stay here forever without fulfilling his role as an Inquisitor.
If he’s just staying here and eating and sleeping without doing anything, can that be called an Inquisitor?
Then Rembrary spotted a familiar face.
“Inquisitor!”
Seditor yawned and turned his head. A welcoming light appeared on his face when he found Rembrary.
“How long are you going to keep calling me that, even when you’re old?!”
Rembrary quickly got out of the carriage and approached him.
“When did you arrive?”
“About four days ago.”
Seditor stared blankly at Rembrary for a moment and sighed.
“Kids grow up so fast.”
The holy knights also got out of the carriage, spotted Seditor, and greeted him.
Seditor inadvertently greeted them back, then rubbed his eyes when he saw the coachman and holy knights carrying something shiny that they had loaded behind the carriage.
Seditor glanced at Rembrary, who was shining alone. Having roughly realized who that thing belonged to, Seditor felt strange.
“You really became an Inquisitor.”
“I told you.”
“Still, I didn’t think you’d really do it. You’re a candidate for High Priest. The only one.”
Then Seditor noticed that Rembrary was smiling more brightly than usual.
The Rembrary he had seen usually smiled well, but it often felt a bit perfunctory.
But now, Rembrary was radiating the energy of ‘I’m so glad I ran into you’ with all his heart.
Sensing something unusual, Seditor turned his head and quickly muttered.
“I’ll be busy, let’s talk later. I’ll go that way.”
Seditor deliberately turned in a direction far away from the dormitory and the main building.
“Just a moment.”
However, Rembrary grabbed Seditor’s arm.
“What.”
“I’m so glad I ran into you. I need some help.”
“Why are you so confident I’ll help? Did I leave you something in my will?”
“Yes.”
Seditor was about to protest that there was no such thing, but he remembered that Rembrary had saved his life.
“I left it with you. Damn it.”
Seditor gritted his teeth, sighed, and asked.
“What is it?”
