Li Yingjie frantically tried to slip his phone to Zhao Qiang, who stood beside him, but Wu Caiyi’s sharp eyes caught the movement.
“What do you think you’re doing? Trying to pass your phone off to someone else? Officer, you saw that, right? He’s trying to hide something on his phone. It must be tracking my location!” Wu Caiyi’s voice was shrill.
Li Yingjie sheepishly retrieved his phone. “Don’t talk nonsense. I was just taking it out.”
The police officer turned to Li Yingjie. “Did you install tracking software on her phone?”
Li Yingjie knew that a simple check of his phone would reveal everything. Quibbling was pointless; he needed a different approach.
“Officer,” he began, his voice rising in indignation, “she and I are engaged, with the wedding set for the sixteenth day of the first month [typically falling in February or March, depending on the lunar calendar]. I admit to installing a location tracker on her phone, but it was with her permission! You see, she’s very… free-spirited. She often stays out all night, sometimes disappearing for days. We’ve argued about it constantly. Finally, to prove she wasn’t doing anything to betray me, she agreed to let me track her so I’d know where she was at all times. It was fine for a while, but today she shows up at a hotel with another man! Look,” he gestured dramatically, “her clothes are even inside out! You’re all men; you can imagine how I feel!”
Wu Caiyi exploded. “Li Yingjie, you shameless liar! When did I ever agree to you tracking my phone? If you hadn’t come barging in here today, I wouldn’t even have known! Officer, don’t listen to his lies. Arrest him now!”
Li Yingjie pressed on, “We may not be married yet, but we’re engaged with both families as witnesses. You get caught cheating in a hotel, and I haven’t even raised a hand to you. Instead, you’re trying to send me to jail? That’s incredibly vicious! Even a dying wasp stings, but a woman’s heart… it’s the most poisonous thing of all.”
“You… you’re the vicious one!” Wu Caiyi retorted.
“Me? Vicious? Officer, I’ll call her father right now. He’ll confirm the engagement. That should prove I’m telling the truth, right?”
The police officer nodded.
Li Yingjie immediately dialed Wu Caiyi’s father, Wu Zhixiong.
After hearing the situation, Wu Zhixiong confirmed to the police that Wu Caiyi and Li Yingjie were indeed engaged. He promised to speak with Wu Caiyi and asked the police to let them handle it.
Wu Caiyi, furious, shouted, “Dad, Li Yingjie put tracking software on my phone! Don’t just take his side!”
“Shut up!” Wu Zhixiong snapped. “You’ve embarrassed me enough! How could you do something like this? Come home immediately, or your grandpa and I will be driven to an early grave because of you!”
There it was again!
The same old threat to manipulate Wu Caiyi.
And, as always, it worked. Wu Caiyi immediately fell silent.
The police officers, unwilling to get involved in a family squabble, offered a few words of advice and left.
The guests in the nearby rooms began to whisper.
“That’s awful, right? Cheating is bad enough, but trying to get her fiancé arrested?”
“People like her ruin the reputation of all women. You can’t blame men for saying bad things when there are so many black sheep like this.”
“Engaged and still hooking up? Disgusting!”
…
Wu Caiyi, tears welling up, cried, “You don’t know the truth! Don’t spread rumors!”
Just then, Yang Chen emerged from the room and wrapped his arms around Wu Caiyi from behind.
Wu Caiyi was startled. Seeing that it was Yang Chen, she didn’t pull away or resist. She simply lowered her head, a look of grievance on her face.
Yang Chen smiled and addressed Li Yingjie. “You’re right. She and I are having an affair. The inside-out sweater is proof enough. I put it on her. Are you satisfied now?”
“Let go of her!” Li Yingjie screamed. “Get your filthy hands off her, you bastard! Don’t make me kill you!”
Yang Chen chuckled, pinched Wu Caiyi’s chin, and kissed her.
Wu Caiyi was completely taken by surprise. Her body stiffened like a board.
Li Yingjie lost it, charging forward with a roar.
“Ah! I’m going to kill you!”
The bodyguard stepped in front of Yang Chen, stopping Li Yingjie with his chest.
Yang Chen, his arm still around the rigid Wu Caiyi, guided her back into the room, closing the door behind them.
After a moment of stunned silence, Wu Caiyi asked, her voice laced with excitement, “Did you just kiss me?”
“Yep!” Yang Chen replied. “Didn’t you feel it?”
“You jerk!” Wu Caiyi exclaimed. “Weren’t you supposedly not interested? I practically stripped naked for you earlier, and you pretended to refuse. What’s with the kiss now? I’m being honest, I’m not pretending anymore, you’re just a pervert, right?”
“Of course not,” Yang Chen said. “I’ve already been falsely accused of having a relationship with you. No matter how much I deny it, the rumors will persist. I can’t bear the weight of such a bad reputation without actually doing anything to deserve it. I’d be at a great loss! Come on, let’s make it ‘worthy of the name’. Everyone already thinks I slept with you anyway.”
Wu Caiyi was speechless.
She rolled her eyes at Yang Chen, looking surprisingly attractive in her annoyance.
“Hey! You look better like that than you do normally. It’s strange, some girls look better when they’re angry. Why do you think that is?” Yang Chen mused with a smile.
“What do you mean?” Wu Caiyi challenged. “Are you saying I’m ugly when I’m normal?”
“I didn’t say that,” Yang Chen clarified. “I just think you look good when you’re angry. I’m hungry, let’s order some food. Do you want to eat here, or go home?”
“Of course, I’ll eat with you,” Wu Caiyi said. “I’m not going home.”
“Okay. I’ll have them deliver it to the room. What do you want to eat?”
“Anything is fine. I don’t have much of an appetite. I’ll just pick at something with you.”
Yang Chen nodded and called to place the order.
Half an hour later, the waiter arrived, pushing a cart laden with food.
Wu Caiyi stared in disbelief at the dishes Yang Chen had ordered.
Lobster, abalone, sea cucumber…
Was this really a delivery driver’s meal?
As soon as the waiter left, Wu Caiyi blurted out, “Big brother, are you crazy? How many deliveries do you have to make to afford this?”
“Are you out of your mind?” Yang Chen countered. “I have bodyguards with me. Do I look like an ordinary delivery driver?”
Wu Caiyi’s eyes widened. “Oh, that’s right! Big brother, who are you exactly? Why do you have bodyguards? Are you a young master from some wealthy family, experiencing life incognito?”
“Haha… definitely not,” Yang Chen chuckled. “I’m not a young master. My parents are just ordinary business people. We’re not super rich, but we can afford a few houses in Haicheng [a major city, likely the setting of the story].”
“Oh, that’s not bad,” Wu Caiyi said. “It seems your parents treat you well, even getting you bodyguards. My family has a few hundred million in assets, but I don’t get that kind of treatment.”
“My parents passed away more than ten years ago. I hired the bodyguards myself.”
“Ah? I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring up painful memories.”
“It’s okay,” Yang Chen said. “It’s been so long. I’ve moved on. Let’s eat, let’s eat. After eating, I need to get to bed early so I can get up early to deliver packages.”
Wu Caiyi smiled and nodded, then quickly washed her hands and joined him at the table.
Meanwhile, Li Yingjie, accompanied by Zhao Qiang and the others, left the hotel, but he wasn’t ready to let it go.
“Zhao Qiang, call everyone you can!” Li Yingjie seethed. “I’m going to teach that bastard a lesson! Damn it, I’m so angry!”
Zhao Qiang nodded and immediately started making calls.
“Hey, Gou Sheng, bring your guys to Chongming Island [an island near Shanghai] right away! We’ve got a big problem!”
“Hey, A Bin, get your people to Chongming Island now! It’s urgent! Hurry!”
…
Back in the hotel room, Yang Chen and Wu Caiyi were enjoying their meal when a knock came at the door.
Yang Chen opened it to find the bodyguard, who leaned in and whispered, “Mr. Yang, Li Yingjie and his group are calling for reinforcements. To ensure your safety, we should call for backup as well.”
“Okay,” Yang Chen replied. “But don’t make a big scene. Just scare them off.”
“Understood,” the bodyguard confirmed.
Yang Chen nodded, closed the door, and returned to his meal.
After eating, Yang Chen went to take a shower.
Emerging from the bathroom, he found Wu Caiyi sitting on the sofa.
“I’m going to sleep,” Yang Chen announced. “You can sleep in the small room.”
“Oh, okay,” Wu Caiyi replied.
Yang Chen stretched and headed into the master bedroom of the presidential suite.
Wu Caiyi sat on the sofa for a long time, lost in thought. Finally, she got up and went to take a shower.
Afterward, wrapped only in a bath towel, she entered Yang Chen’s room.
Yang Chen, who was scrolling through Douyin [a popular video-sharing app], looked up in surprise. “What’s going on? Didn’t I tell you to sleep in the small room?”
Wu Caiyi slipped under the covers. “Didn’t you say you wanted to be ‘worthy of the name,’ not just have the reputation of sleeping with me without actually doing it? I’m here to satisfy you. Just be gentle with me; it’s really my first time.”
With that, Wu Caiyi closed her eyes, waiting for Yang Chen to “plow the field” [a euphemism for sexual intercourse].
“I was just kidding,” Yang Chen protested. “Don’t take it seriously. We’ve only known each other for less than a day. How can we do something like this?”
“Ah?” Wu Caiyi asked. “Are you not able to get it up? Then what can I do to help you get it up?”
Yang Chen was stunned.
Damn, is that something you can say to a man?
It was more insulting than a slap in the face.
“There are many ways to insult someone, but you chose the cruelest one,” Yang Chen said. “How can you say such a strong man can’t get it up!”
“I saw online that many people work out to get muscles just to scare people because they can’t perform,” Wu Caiyi countered.
Yang Chen was at a loss.
Now that things had gone this far, he had to prove himself.
“I’m sorry!” Yang Chen exclaimed, then turned off the lights.
The room became lively, while outside the hotel, things were equally heated.
Li Yingjie, having gathered over 50 men, attempted to storm the hotel and confront Yang Chen, but they were met by the bodyguards’ reinforcements.
The two sides engaged in a tense standoff, the atmosphere thick with hostility.
Just then, the police arrived.
After assessing the situation, the police ordered Li Yingjie and his men to disperse, threatening arrest for disturbing the peace and unlawful assembly.
Li Yingjie was furious. “My fiancée is in a hotel room with another man, and you’re stopping me from going up there? Are you even men? Can’t you understand my feelings?”
The police officer replied, “I am an enforcer of the law. I can only consider the problem from a legal perspective. Either you leave now, or I will arrest you for disturbing the peace and unlawful assembly. If you start a fight with such a large group, the consequences will be severe. As the leader, you will be severely punished. Consider carefully whether you want to approach this from a legal perspective or from a man’s perspective.”
The police officer’s warning gave Li Yingjie pause. After a moment of consideration, he waved to Zhao Qiang, signaling him to disperse the crowd.
“Then aren’t so many of them considered an illegal assembly?” Li Yingjie challenged.
“We are responsible for protecting Mr. Yang,” the bodyguard retorted. “How can that be called an illegal assembly? We are all licensed security personnel with work permits. It’s perfectly legal!”
The police officer confirmed that they were indeed security personnel from Xingchen Defense Group, so they were not considered an illegal assembly.
Li Yingjie, defeated and enraged, had no choice but to leave.
“Damn it, Wu Caiyi, you don’t know what’s good for you! Just wait and see how I deal with you!” Li Yingjie muttered angrily.
He got into his car and immediately called Wu Caiyi’s father, Wu Zhixiong.
“Hey, Wu Zhixiong, don’t even think about cooperating with our family anymore!” Li Yingjie spat.
“Yingjie, don’t be angry!” Wu Zhixiong pleaded. “Let’s talk this through calmly. Don’t get so worked up!”
“How can I talk to you calmly? Your daughter is in a hotel room with another man, doing who knows what, and you expect me to be calm? I’m telling you, our family’s clients won’t even give you the scraps! I’m waiting to see you completely withdraw from Aocheng [likely a company or market]!” Li Yingjie raged before hanging up.
Wu Zhixiong, consumed by anger and anxiety, immediately called his daughter.
But Wu Caiyi’s phone was lying on the sofa in the living room. She was currently occupied with more pressing matters and had no time to answer.
Wu Zhixiong called repeatedly, but no one answered, causing his breathing to become rapid and shallow.
About an hour later, Wu Caiyi finally returned her father’s call.
“What are you doing?” Wu Zhixiong demanded. “Why didn’t you answer the phone?”
“I didn’t hear it earlier,” Wu Caiyi replied. “What’s wrong?”
“Who are you with? Are you deliberately trying to anger me? Our family’s business depends entirely on Li Yingjie’s mother. Can’t you understand that?”
“I understand!” Wu Caiyi said. “Didn’t I agree to marry him? What more do you want from me?”
“Then what do you mean by going to a hotel with another man?”
“That’s my freedom,” Wu Caiyi retorted. “I haven’t married him yet. I don’t need his permission to do what I want. If he and I were in a genuine, loving relationship, I would be loyal to him. But given our situation, why should I care about his feelings?”
“He called and said he won’t cooperate with us anymore!” Wu Zhixiong lamented. “The little bit of hope our family had has been extinguished by you!”
At that moment, Yang Chen took the phone. “Mr. Wu, I know about your family’s business. I guarantee you can regain Aocheng Entertainment’s business. Huang Hongsen [likely a powerful figure] will be coming to see me the day after tomorrow, and I will take you to meet him then. From now on, you are not allowed to force Caiyi to marry anyone. Do you hear me?”
Wu Caiyi snuggled into Yang Chen’s arms, a smile playing on her lips.
Was this the domineering attitude of a man?
It felt so good.
“What are you talking about?” Wu Zhixiong scoffed. “How could Chairman Huang, a man of such stature, come to see you?”
“What I say will happen,” Yang Chen stated confidently. “Okay, I won’t talk to you anymore. Don’t call again. Don’t disturb Caiyi and me from developing our relationship. Goodbye.”
Wu Zhixiong was left speechless.
