Magic Learned in Vain – 210
Hunter Rescue Operation 2
Sepia’s mace, named Ogre’s Fist, is another of Bide’s creations.
It’s much larger and heavier than a regular mace.
To forge it, the other blacksmiths in the village had to combine their efforts.
If struck by that giant mace, even castle walls would crumble. No living creature could withstand such an impact. Even magical defenses wouldn’t completely negate the physical shockwave.
The mace is estimated to weigh 500 kilograms (1100 pounds).
It’s such a formidable weapon that only Sepia would dare to even consider lifting it.
Bide incorporated another technique into this brutal mace.
A magic stone is attached to the handle.
It grants an option skill called ‘Double Attack’.
The attack power doubles instantaneously. Simultaneously, an illusion spell is activated, visually splitting the mace into two.
No one would expect an ogre to wield a magical weapon.
The first enemy to face Sepia was destined to be caught off guard by this attack.
Thump, thump, thump!
Sepia, charging towards the deformed troll, moved with surprising speed.
Thanks to specialized training, Sepia’s movements now resembled those of a human. From a distance, he could be mistaken for a gladiator.
In fact, his movements were quite similar to a gladiator’s.
Bang!
The deformed troll, struck by Sepia’s round shield, was knocked back by the force. The space where the deformed troll had stood was now open.
Sepia filled that space.
Sepia chanted the option’s spell and swung the mace. Double Attack flared, crushing the deformed troll’s face.
With a thud! the heads of the deformed trolls disappeared.
But surprisingly, the heads of the deformed trolls quickly regenerated.
Trolls possess the most potent regenerative abilities among the monsters of Middle Earth. However, they shouldn’t be able to regenerate their heads like this. They only resembled trolls, but they seemed to be entirely different creatures.
Sepia remained unfazed.
He had encountered these deformed monsters several times before.
Not only the deformed trolls but also the other monsters possessed regenerative abilities that defied belief.
“Regenerate all you want! I’ll keep smashing you!”
Bang, bang, bang, bang!
Sepia relentlessly smashed the regenerating heads of the deformed trolls with all his might.
The impacts were so powerful that not only their heads but also their upper bodies were shattered and obliterated. The deformed trolls eventually couldn’t endure it and collapsed.
-Kieeeek!
The remaining deformed troll was terrified and turned to flee.
Driven by pure instinct, it seemed to clearly sense how terrifying Sepia was.
Whirrrrr!
The flying ‘Ogre’s Fist’ shattered the head of the fleeing deformed troll.
Sepia clenched his fist.
The flying ‘Ogre’s Fist’ spun rapidly. The mace, returning, shattered the upper body of the deformed troll and landed in Sepia’s hand.
Surprisingly-
Bide had added another option to the mace: ‘The weapon always returns’.
It functioned like a boomerang.
Sepia, traditionally a close-combat ogre, was now capable of engaging in mid-range combat as well.
Simply equipping Sepia with a shield and a weapon had dramatically increased his combat power.
As Bide had declared, “I will make you strong with item power!” his promise had been fulfilled.
Watching Sepia move away, the two black mages who had infiltrated the territory covered their mouths with both hands.
Their eyes were wide with shock.
“Th, th, that’s impossible?”
“Damn it, I nearly peed my pants. This is the first time an ogre has been this scary.”
The black mages trembled. Their reason for being here was simple.
It was to test the aura of the Black Dragon.
The Dusseldorf Mountains were the ideal location to test its power. There were numerous test subjects, and the area was largely undisturbed.
But the test subjects were vanishing as soon as they were created.
To investigate the cause, two black mages were dispatched. Within days, they discovered why the test subjects had disappeared.
It was absurd.
An ogre armed with magical weapons was defeating monsters with significantly enhanced stats as if they were stray dogs.
The black mages were so dumbfounded that they stared at each other in disbelief.
They instinctively knew that if they were caught by that ogre, they would die. They were forced to witness the destruction of the test subjects, on which they had invested so much effort, without even a chance to properly assess them.
This matter had to be reported to their superiors.
They risked their lives and fled down the mountain range.
As lower-level black mages unable to use portals, they had no choice but to run on foot.

The underground prison is buried deep beneath the Vampire Castle.
The security is exceptionally tight. There seemed to be twice as many guards on duty as usual.
Clang, clang.
Wherever Legion went, the sound of ‘clang, clang’ echoed. He couldn’t conceal his presence.
If another magician were to see him, they would likely say:
“Why don’t you use Silence magic to eliminate the noise?”
Legion would respond:
“Don’t bother me, I’m exhausted. I’m not training like this to rely on that kind of magic.”
Legion and Draizher stood at the entrance to the government office leading to the underground prison. Because it was a national facility, they had to pass through two sets of doors to reach the entrance to the underground prison.
They wore hoods, making them appear suspicious. The only reason they had made it this far safely was entirely due to Beyond, who was a public official.
Without him, a report would have been filed as soon as they left the mansion, stating that suspicious individuals were wandering around.
That’s how conspicuous Legion and Draizher’s appearance was.
Tan followed them at a distance. He was skilled at hiding, making him difficult to spot unless one was actively searching for him.
Sharonz was excluded from this mission.
If she were captured, the ‘Blood of the Black Dragon’ would also be seized.
That was the outcome Legion wanted to avoid at all costs. She needed to be safe to obtain the ‘Blood Orichalcon’ [a mythical metal with magical properties].
Beyond nonchalantly escorted Legion and Draizher through both doors. Armed vampires were stationed everywhere.
According to Mark, there were an incredible number of vampires with 4-star or 4-circle or higher power [a ranking system for magical or combat ability]. Occasionally, 5-star and 5-circle vampires were spotted. Very rarely, there were those who appeared to be 6-star and 6-circle.
Crazy. Crazy.
He had willingly entered a tiger’s den.
No matter how powerful Legion and Draizher were, escaping this place wouldn’t be easy.
Finally, they arrived at the entrance to the underground prison.
The entrance resembled an ordinary government office. It seemed they had deliberately designed it this way to avoid drawing attention.
Entrances that looked similar were scattered throughout the area.
A guard stationed at the entrance approached Beyond. The guard recognized Beyond. After exchanging greetings, he glanced at Legion and Draizher, who were standing behind Beyond with their imposing figures.
“Prisoners.”
“Prisoners?”
“That’s right.”
“I haven’t received any notification about prisoners being imprisoned today.”
The guard looked at Beyond and Legion alternately with a questioning expression.
“It was a hastily decided matter.”
“Hmm.”
The guard approached Legion and Draizher.
Legion lowered his head deeply, concealing his face with the helmet inside his hood. He would be recognized if the guard got any closer.
The guard approached Legion and was about to say, ‘Take off your hood!’
Fweeeng!
An arrow, launched from an unseen location, pierced the guard’s neck.
The guard groaned and stumbled backward. He grabbed the arrow and pulled it out. Blood splattered everywhere, but his neck began to regenerate rapidly.
Fweeeng!
Several more arrows flew. One of them pierced the guard’s heart.
Even with a pierced heart, a True Ancestor [a powerful, ancient vampire] doesn’t die easily.
The True Ancestor was a race capable of regenerating even the heart if less than 30 percent of it was destroyed.
But-
The guard’s blood vessels turned black. He rolled his eyes, vomited blood a few times, and then collapsed to the floor.
“Wh, what are you doing? What do you think you’re doing, killing a guard?”
Beyond shouted at Legion in a fit of rage.
This bastard, he doesn’t know his place. Should I hit him? Legion considered it, but he restrained himself.
“It wasn’t me?”
“What do you mean it wasn’t you? You just took out an arrow and stabbed the guard’s heart.”
Is that bastard blind? Why would I take out an arrow and stab the guard’s heart when I have a steel sword? No, even if I did stab him, why would I use an arrow instead of a sword? Does that make any sense?
“I’m telling you, it wasn’t me.”
“Really, why are you doing this!”
The guards who witnessed their colleague fall poured out of the barracks.
Fweeeng!
Dozens of arrows rained down on them. The archer was clearly skilled.
The arrows accurately struck the guards’ hearts.
Some of the guards hurriedly protected their hearts. Then, someone who ran up quickly stabbed the guards’ chests with a sword. The guards uttered the words ‘It’s unfair’ and then all collapsed to the floor.
“Wh, what?”
Legion and Draizher watched the unfolding events, completely bewildered.
“Death Butcher Donteckman and Serial Killer Jack Nicher. I’ve been waiting for you to make your move.”
A stunningly beautiful woman wearing tight leather clothes addressed Legion with a stern expression.
Legion frowned slightly.
Who said that all the vampires in the Vampire Kingdom were pretty? It’s an ugly woman kingdom. She’s uglier than Sharonz.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Leadcoff.”
“Leadcoff?”
“The last survivor of the Gyeolsa organization [likely a resistance group or rebel faction].”
Behind Leadcoff, dozens of her followers arrived one after another. Their eyes shone with intense determination. Legion immediately sensed that they were risking their lives on this mission.

Sharonz stared out the dark window.
Torches were lit everywhere. All sorts of shouts echoed through Blood City.
Most of the shouts were the same.
-Let’s avenge the King!
-Let’s drive the humans out of the world!
The flames of war were growing stronger.
What if the vampires consolidate their power and attack the humans? Even if I don’t know the details, a devastating conflict will erupt.
Countless humans will die, and just as many vampires will perish. Ultimately, the True Ancestor is likely to face destruction.
“How can I stop this?”
There is only one way.
Spielberg, who is wielding all the power in place of the King and the deceased Hanks and inciting the people, must be removed from his position.
To achieve that, Legion and Draizher need to rescue the hunters. I can only hope that what happened in the carriage was actually recorded on the CCTV magic stone [a magical recording device].
-Let’s prepare for the attack!
-For Elsa’s eternal night!
The sound of the crowd shouting outside the window was incessant.
“Hoo, where on earth is the kingdom headed?”
Sharonz sighed deeply.
“Where are we going? Where are we going? We are rushing headlong toward destruction.”
A cold voice echoed from behind Sharonz.
Sharonz, startled, quickly turned around. Standing before her was a black mage who had pulled his hood low, obscuring his face. She had no idea when or how he had appeared.
“Who are you?”
Sharonz prepared her magic. Her eyes turned red, signaling her intent to use red magic [a specific type of magic].
“Hohohoho, you think you can catch me with that skill?”
The black mage’s shrill voice filled Sharonz’s room.
