Magic is Learned in Vain – Episode 74
History is Made at Night (1)
Legion arrived at the entrance of Count Persimmon’s mansion. The entrance alone was enormous.
“Haa… haa… haa… Shit. What am I even doing?”
Legion barely made it here, carrying the massive Drieze on his back.
“Snore… Wheeew… Snore… Wheeeeeew…”
Drieze was slumped over, snoring heavily.
“Argh, damn it!”
Legion dumped Drieze on the ground.
Drieze lay sprawled where Legion had thrown him, still snoring away.
Wow, he’s seriously disgusting.
This is the fifth time I’ve abandoned him and then picked him up again. And he still won’t wake up. If he weren’t Number Three, I would have ditched him for good.
His handsome face was a mess, too.
His lips were busted, and his eyes were bruised. Why did he end up looking like this? Thanks to his wonderful servant, he got beat up by his wonderful servant and ended up like this.
Just an hour ago, he and Drieze were drinking together in a friendly atmosphere.
It was to celebrate Legion leaving the territory, and it was Drieze’s first drinking session since becoming a servant.
Maybe it was the atmosphere.
Neither of them could hit the brakes.
“Pour it up, drink it down, pour it up, drink it down.”
They don’t even remember what they talked about. He vaguely remembers the beginning, but as it went on, he only remembers them rambling nonsense to each other.
Just whining and complaining.
Well, so what? Drieze can relieve his feelings like this, and he can relieve his stress like this. Mark taught him the word ‘stress,’ and he says it’s the root of all evil.
Anyway, the atmosphere was good, the drinks were good, the moonlight was good, it was all a good night, but…
“But this bastard…”
Suddenly, his vision flashed.
It’s been a long time since he felt such sudden pain.
Thanks to his Iron Head passive skill, his skull boasts incredible hardness. He doesn’t feel pain in his head unless it’s a considerable impact.
But his face was a different story.
Thanks to his ‘Exploding Handsomeness’ passive skill, his skin is delicate and transparent, like polished glass. His beautiful face, which looks like ripples would spread widely like the water of a clear lake with just a slight touch, was struck by his damn servant’s rough fist.
“Ugh! What was that?”
Legion stepped back, covering his face.
He was hit right on. His eyes were burning.
He was already tipsy, and now his head was spinning even more. He looked at the culprit who had hit him.
Drieze. This crazy bastard.
“What are you looking at, you pig?”
Drieze’s massive body swayed from side to side like a pendulum. His eyes, which had seemed fine just a moment ago, were gleaming.
He seemed incredibly drunk.
“Ah, I’m getting pissed off…”
Legion quickly stepped back. This bastard is completely out of it.
“Pissed off? What are you going to do about it if you’re pissed off?”
Drieze’s brutal fist flew at him again.
-You’re in big trouble. This guy is drunk, so restrictions don’t work on him. That fist has an attack power of 14,798. If you get hit one more time, it’s going to be a disaster.
Legion focused and dodged slightly.
Then he staggered forward, rolled a few times, and got up.
“Who are you again?”
From then on…
He flipped tables, cursed at other guests, tore his shirt and hung it on the head of a man at the next table, caused a ruckus, fought, hit, and all hell broke loose.
At this rate, a few people were going to die.
“Mark… can you get rid of the alcohol?”
-Possible. Takes 30 seconds.
“Do it now.”
Soon, all the alcohol he had drunk was expelled through Legion’s pores. Following the alcoholic mist that filled the pub like fog, Legion quickly approached Drieze.
He was holding a large staff in his hand.
And with the feeling of ‘oh well, whatever,’ he swung the staff at Drieze’s head. But surprisingly, Drieze blocked Legion’s staff from behind without even looking.
“Wow! This guy is really amazing!”
Legion was genuinely surprised.
-Is this really the time to be surprised? Don’t you know you’re screwed right now?
“You pig bastard, you’re so dead! Gather, Source of Steel! Hermes’s Weight!”
Legion extended his staff.
Surprisingly, the staff grew more than 20 times in size and struck Drieze directly.
-Wow! 4th circle ancient magic! The attack power alone was 21,000!
Drieze fainted on the spot.
That’s the whole story.
After that, Legion carried the huge Drieze on his back for over an hour. Sweat poured from his body because of how heavy Drieze was.
The vomit the bastard spewed out made his clothes smell terribly sour.
It was already late at night when Legion arrived at his accommodation.
His accommodation was a detached house. He doesn’t know what the other participants’ accommodations are like, but this seemed like a considerable privilege.
“Privilege my ass, it’s damn far.”
The scale is almost similar to Legion’s mansion.
He didn’t know why he was given such a privilege. He guessed it was from Paring’s head, trying to keep him away from the others.
But just one request.
Can’t you just leave me alone tonight? I’m really tired.
When Legion arrived at his accommodation, the maids who were waiting were surprised. They probably never imagined that their master would appear carrying a servant on his back.
“Just throw him anywhere.”
Legion threw Drieze to the ground.
He threw him hard enough to hurt quite a bit, but the bastard still didn’t budge. It was impossible for the maids to move his huge bulk. They had no choice but to mobilize the servants as well.
After everything was settled, Legion took a bath.
The sour smell that had permeated his body disappeared as he took a hot bath. The maids placed new underwear and outerwear on the bed where he would sleep.
After cleaning the bathroom, they bowed deeply to Legion.
“Have a comfortable night.”
Legion also nodded.
“Good work.”
They closed the door and left.
As if they had made a promise, they left the mansion. Now there were only two people in this large mansion. One of them was passed out drunk.
Whoosh-!
The wind blew, shaking the torches.
The deserted mansion was too eerie.
“Wow, being alone is freaking scary.”
Legion muttered as he looked out the window.
-Why alone? I’m here, and Mammon is here too.
“Mammon is scarier.”
Imagine a tall, bob-haired skeleton wandering around the mansion alone. Even though he knows Mammon, his spine tingles.
Well, it’s better than nothing.
The lich Mammon was given more freedom than before.
Originally, summons could not appear in reality unless Legion willed it. But the lich Mammon is the master of the exclusive servants. Waking up every day, summoning him on time, and then putting him back in when the time comes is more annoying than you think.
So he gave him freedom.
Come out when you want. But don’t scare people.
It was a truly unprecedented level of freedom for a summon. Thanks to this, the lich Mammon could be summoned to the real world whenever he wanted, at any time.
But it wasn’t without its drawbacks.
Although the annoyance was reduced, strange rumors began to circulate in the territory.
A bob-haired ghost roams the forest and village at night.
The moment he heard the rumor, he knew exactly who it was.
How scary would it be to encounter Mammon in the mountains? Even the owner himself would be scared. Most people would be terrified or faint.
“Okay, then I’ll trust you guys and get some sleep.”
Legion closed the window and flopped onto the bed.
He’s too tired from the first day of arrival. He thought he would be able to sleep soundly until tomorrow morning.
Legion fell asleep as soon as he closed his eyes.
-Auto mode activated.
Snoring, Legion (Mark) opened his eyes.
* * *
The second commander of the White Lion, Low Fisher, looked around.
All twenty knights who followed him were gathered.
All of them were composed of 3-star knights. Low Fisher thought that they were by no means inferior to the central government’s regular army.
Low Fisher, as the commander, was a 4-star knight.
He was the only one in the White Lion 2nd Division who used Aura. His Aura had a powerful cutting force. People called his Aura, which boasted amazing accuracy and cutting power, the ‘Pinpoint Knight’.
The order given to Low Fisher was simple.
-Exterminate Baron Legion.
The content was simple, but it was quite a dangerous order.
He learned who Baron Legion was for the first time today. He doesn’t even bother memorizing the names of such shabby barons. Even his current position is generally recognized as higher than a baron.
Barons are so numerous that they trip over each other.
They may be high nobles to ordinary people, but they are worthless to knights who are treated as equals or higher.
But even so, a guest is a guest.
If a guest is murdered by someone, there is a high probability that problems will arise in various ways. It wouldn’t go that far, but if the central government came out for an audit, there was a good chance it would be quite annoying.
An order was given to take that into account.
-Kill him in a way that looks like an accident.
It was unusual to call as many as twenty knights to deal with a mere baron, and the order was quite tricky.
It seems that the man named Baron Legion has a significant influence on the Count’s family. Unfortunately, that baron family will soon disappear from the map.
That kind of thing-
The White Lion 2nd Division does best.
The White Lion Knights were formed by foreigners.
They are far from success anyway. The White Lion knights thought that if success was difficult, they would make a lot of money.
If they do a good job today, they will receive a considerable amount of gold.
“Everything is ready.”
The adjutant said.
Low Fisher nodded.
His subordinates are skilled in this kind of work, and without knowing it, the escape route will already be thoroughly controlled.
The targets are Count Legion and one servant.
According to the maids, both of them are drunk and almost unconscious.
In this situation, even one or two knights would be enough.
However, the Count is concerned about this matter, mentioning failure several times. They must do their best to handle it and never let their guard down until the final cleanup is complete.
“1st squad, break into the mansion. Eliminate all living things you see.”
“Understood.”
“2nd squad, surround the mansion with me. If anyone escapes, kill them.”
“Understood.”
The adjutant nodded.
He led the 1st squad and approached the mansion. As quietly as possible, making as little noise as possible.
Low Fisher also led the 2nd squad, spreading out widely and approaching the mansion.
Legion (Mark) and the lich Mammon were watching the White Lion Knights from the top of the mansion.
