Ep. 27
I took the subway and arrived at Seoul Station. Having researched the route beforehand, I headed straight to the ticket vending machine and collected the tickets Heena had reserved without any trouble.
We’d left with plenty of time, so we still had a while before departure. I’d arrived early just in case, so I hadn’t looked into anything to do while waiting.
I glanced at Heena.
“Even if we’re eating later, do you want something to drink?”
It was 8 AM. Heena and I had agreed to skip breakfast. But I thought she might be thirsty, so I asked if she wanted to stop by a convenience store.
“No, I’m okay.”
“I’m not particularly thirsty either. I have a drink in my bag that I brought from home.”
“Then should we head to the gate? We only have about 30 minutes until boarding.”
“Sure, let’s go.”
Following her suggestion, we went straight to the boarding gate. There were no ticket barriers, and we stayed close to the seats so we could board as soon as the train arrived.
Even though it was peak vacation season, it wasn’t as crowded as I’d expected. Actually, it’s much easier to go directly to Sokcho by bus than by KTX [Korea Train eXpress, a high-speed rail system], so I figured most people were doing that.
Anyway, I was relieved it wasn’t crowded when Heena stopped her rolling suitcase and sat on it.
I used to think rolling suitcases were only useful for overseas travel, but seeing this changed my mind a little.
You can pack a lot of luggage in it, pull it along when you walk, and even sit on it like this.
I was impressed by its amazing versatility.
“Wow, the practicality is no joke.”
“Right?”
Actually, there were seats a little further away. But who cares? Heena sitting on the suitcase was cute.
“Yeonhoo, do you want to sit too?”
“Huh? Should we go over there?”
“No, here.”
As she said that, she got up again. Then she pulled me toward the suitcase and sat me down on it.
-Thump
Heena sat sideways on my lap, just like when we took that two-shot photo in her room.
I wasn’t as flustered as I was then, but my heart still fluttered at her scent tickling my nose.
However, this time, instead of facing me, she leaned against me while sitting sideways. I wrapped my right arm around Heena’s shoulder in case she fell.
Leaning diagonally, her head rested between my right cheek and shoulder.
When she slightly raised her eyes to the side, our eyes met.
“Am I heavy?”
“Not at all. I didn’t even notice you were sitting.”
“Then is it okay if I stay like this?”
“Of course. You can even take a nap here.”
“Should I?”
She said playfully and rubbed her cheek slightly against my collarbone. My spirits soared at the sight of her cat-like behavior.
Is she testing my patience? We haven’t even boarded the train yet.
I sincerely felt like I could endure not just 30 minutes but 3 hours, but Heena got up first after 5 minutes because the posture was a bit unstable on the suitcase.
After that, she obediently went to a nearby chair, and we sat side by side and started taking pictures again.
Pictures are all that’s left from a trip, after all.
Making peace signs with our hands, pressing down on the brims of our hats together for concept shots from the side, and a picture of Heena kissing me on the cheek.
Time flew by quickly. Especially the last photo is worth keeping for life.
While I was briefly wondering how to back up this precious data so I would never lose it, the train arrived.
I immediately packed my luggage, boarded the train, and found our reserved seats. Surprisingly, there weren’t many people inside the KTX, and everyone seemed to have light luggage, suggesting they had similar destinations.
“Heena, give me the suitcase? I’ll put it up there.”
“Okay, thank you.”
I put the sports bag and suitcase on the overhead rack and sank into the spacious seat. The seat was wide, and the air conditioning was perfect, so it seemed like we’d have a comfortable ride.
As soon as she sat down, Heena took out a cheap snack that she used to buy at stationery stores when she was young: a small bag with several tiny cookies inside.
“Yeonhoo, ah~ [open your mouth]”
“Ah~”
I opened my mouth obediently, not resisting her attempt to feed me. I like street food, but I like these cheap snacks just as much.
As expected of Lee Heena, a mysterious girlfriend who seems to know me better than I know myself.
While I was looking at my phone to send a departure message to my mom, Heena kept putting snacks in my mouth rhythmically. After repeating that several times, I reflexively opened my mouth, but at some point, no more snacks came in.
I thought she’d run out, so I turned to the side and saw Heena smiling with a snack in one hand.
“Do you want more?”
“Yeah.”
“Customer. From now on, this snack is a paid service.”
“Oh… what should I give you?”
I naturally accepted the situation. Heena slightly tilted her cheek toward me, wondering what she would ask for.
Then she tapped her cheek with her finger.
“Do I have to pay to eat it?”
“……”
While thinking about what to do with this cute creature, my body naturally leaned toward her.
-Kiss
I kissed her lightly and pulled away. It occurred to me while kissing her on the cheek just now that this was the first time I’d done this to Heena.
I’ve received so much from Heena, and I feel a little bad for only doing it now.
However, looking at Heena’s very satisfied face, I could comfort myself by promising to do it a lot from now on.
“Payment complete! Now, ah~”
“Ah~”
Anyway, it’s been a long time since I’ve had these. I don’t see many places selling them these days, so where did she buy them?
—
It took about 2 hours to arrive in Gangneung. The seats were comfortable, so it was a very pleasant ride. Still, I couldn’t move much, so I felt stiff and stretched as soon as I got off.
I felt like I could already smell the sea. Our destination was Sokcho, but even in Gangneung, the sea was close enough that there were several beaches within walking distance.
I had some time before the bus, so I felt like I wanted to go sightseeing. But I thought it would feel better to see it when we arrived, so I took a bus from the station to the terminal.
When I arrived, it was crowded with people. I was afraid of getting lost in the crowd, so I held Heena’s hand tightly and walked ahead.
“There are so many people.”
“Yeah~”
“You look so happy?”
“Hehe, I’m so happy to be walking around this travel destination holding hands.”
“That’s true. It might be okay to just take a walk here and go back.”
“Right? But we have to go to the beach.”
“Why?”
Heena narrowed her eyes at my question and continued.
“I want to see you in your swimsuit again, right?”
I lowered my head as soon as I heard that.
“…Let’s go quickly.”
“Okay~”
There was nothing more to say. I wanted to see it. That black swimsuit.
However, we couldn’t leave right away just because we wanted to, and there was still some time until the bus. So we decided to have a meal nearby as planned.
If we eat here, we’ll have digested everything by the time we arrive in Sokcho, and we can drop off our luggage as soon as we arrive at the hotel and go straight to the beach.
Check-in time is 2 o’clock, but we might arrive a little earlier than that. Surely they’ll let us check in 10 minutes early, right?
“Heena, is that the place over there?”
“Maybe? Let’s go in.”
We went into a Western-style restaurant that I had found in advance. A local restaurant specializing in pork cutlets. Actually, I wanted to eat something that Heena would like more.
But before I could even ask, she said, ‘Yeonhoo, you like this, right? Then let’s have this for lunch,’ and I couldn’t object to my girlfriend’s pick, who had instantly picked out a restaurant that suited my taste using telepathy.
I ordered the pork cutlet set, and Heena ordered spaghetti. I was worried about her skipping breakfast and eating spaghetti, but I’d never seen her eat a lot.
It was a relief that they also gave us pre-meal bread and soup.
I was worried because Heena was so slender that she only ate half as much as me.
After waiting a little while, the bread and soup were followed by all the main dishes.
I saw on the internet that these local restaurants are either really delicious or terribly bad, but this place was okay. It’s hard for pork cutlets to taste bad.
But my girlfriend was looking at me with a happy face, barely eating the spaghetti in front of her.
“Is the pork cutlet delicious?”
“Yeah? Do you want to try some?”
“Then just one bite!”
If my friends had said this, I would have immediately punished them for being ‘one-bite bandits,’ but I wouldn’t mind giving everything to Heena, who was waiting with her mouth open like a baby bird.
I cut a small piece from the center of the pork cutlet and put it in Heena’s mouth with a fork.
She chewed it and smiled, saying it was delicious, then rolled up her spaghetti with a fork and spoon and fed it to me.
Spaghetti isn’t bad either?
I smiled to show her it was delicious and finished it all without leaving any.
And just as I was about to grab the bill to pay, Heena’s hand stopped me.
“Yeonhoo, I’ll pay.”
“I’ll do it.”
“No. You know the hotel your mother booked for us is expensive, right?”
“No, that’s true, but that’s that…”
“It’s not like I’m going to pay with my own money. My dad gave me a separate card. He told me to use this to pay for food.”
“Hmm…”
I couldn’t insist when she said that. I had been saving money for this trip, but I ended up not spending much of my own money, and it felt like my parents had sent me.
Well, from the beginning, my mom said that she had gone through a slightly complicated procedure because we were both minors, starting with the hotel reservation.
“I should go and say thank you later.”
“Our house? Come anytime~”
“Ah… but your brother will be discharged soon, right?”
“Oppa [term for older brother used by females]? In mid-July!”
Heena seems to have a good relationship with her brother, but he wouldn’t beat me up for dating his sister, right? I heard that it’s really rare for siblings to have a good relationship.
After paying, we returned to the terminal. We left the restaurant on time, so we were able to get on the bus after waiting a little while.
I get a little motion sickness when I ride the bus for a long time, so I didn’t talk much and quietly leaned back in my seat.
Heena must have been considerate of me because she leaned her head on my shoulder and sat quietly.
About an hour and a half passed like that.
Gradually, a bright blue horizon came into view outside the bus window.
