Chung Myung immediately felt it – these enemies were different.
The Demonic Cultists they had fought until now were like wild beasts, terrifying creatures that seemed to have burst from hell into the world.
But these new enemies felt different. If the ordinary Demonic Cultists were like big, clumsy hammers, these were like sharp swords. They moved with a sharp, dangerous grace, like swords ready to cut.
“Monk Hye-yeon!” Baek Cheon yelled.
“I see them!” Hye-yeon replied instantly.
Hye-yeon jumped into the air, pushing off the ground with strong legs. He twisted his body and threw a punch like lightning. Power exploded from his fist.
*Hundred Steps Divine Fist!* he thought.
Jo Gul watched, clenching his own fist. This was a famous Shaolin technique, one of their best! Everyone knew the Hundred Steps Divine Fist was incredibly powerful, especially from Hye-yeon. It was a force like a storm rushing forward.
But then… *SLASH!*
The Law Enforcement Officer moved his hand. A line of blackness appeared in the air, darker than night. Hye-yeon’s powerful attack, moving so fast, was suddenly cut in half.
‘…What?’
Those who saw it couldn’t believe their eyes.
The inner strength of Buddhism was supposed to dispel evil, like the Taoist immortal energy that destroyed wickedness. Yet, his power had been so easily cut through.
This was very important. It meant these new enemies were much stronger.
Beyond what they could feel!
Even worse, the Demonic Cultists, who had been losing strength, suddenly became energetic when the Law Enforcement Officers appeared.
A terrible demonic energy covered them like a dark cloud.
“Hiss!”
“Th-This is!”
The Five Swordsmen cried out in alarm.
Just then, Jang Il-so stretched out his hand. The bracelet on his wrist began to spin quickly on its own.
“Nowhere to go.”
The bracelet spun incredibly fast in front of Jang Il-so’s face, then became a streak of light, shooting toward the Law Enforcement Officers.
It was a golden light cutting through the dark night. It was so amazing that even the Mount Hua disciples, who knew they would become enemies, couldn’t help but stare.
Kwaaaaah!
The bracelet, filled with terrifying power, hit the Law Enforcement Officer rushing forward. Seeing the bracelet flying toward him, Jeok Il narrowed his eyes, his face showing a cruel nature.
Paaah!
Jeok Il held out his thin sword. The tip of the sword and Jang Il-so’s bracelet crashed in the air, causing a huge explosion.
Kwaaaah!
As the explosion echoed, golden energy and black demonic energy burst out like fireworks.
Baek Cheon then saw that Jang Il-so’s bracelet was caught on the tip of Jeok Il’s thin sword.
‘That….’
A chill went down his spine. It was incredible to deflect a bracelet flying with that much power. It would be hard to keep such a thin sword from breaking under that impact.
But the Law Enforcement Officer had not only deflected Jang Il-so’s bracelet but had also stopped it and taken it away.
‘They are much stronger.’
Some of them had met Law Enforcement Officers in the Northern Sea. But those officers and the ones here were different. They only shared the same title; their skill was not comparable.
‘And there are ten of them.’
Baek Cheon bit his lip. The Law Enforcement Officers closed the distance and stood in front of the Demonic Cultists.
Thud!
They stopped and looked at Chung Myung and Jang Il-so’s group. There were exactly ten of them.
Behind them, the Demonic Cultists gathered, holding their breath and looking arrogant.
Just by looking, anyone could tell that the Demonic Cultists feared the Law Enforcement Officers even more than the Mount Hua disciples or Hong Gyeon, who glared at them like a fierce dog guarding its territory.
‘They fear their own side?’
It seemed strange, but it was normal in the Demonic Cult.
The Law Enforcement Officers managed the common followers, the ones people called Demonic Pawns. But they also had to find traitors inside the cult and punish anyone who didn’t follow the rules.
So, the Demonic Cultists feared the Law Enforcement Officers more than enemies. The Demonic Cult’s rules were the words of the Great Heavenly Demon, and there was only one punishment for breaking them.
But one thing was sure.
Even though they punished the cultists, the Demonic Cultists still respected strength. Their fear showed how powerful these Law Enforcement Officers were.
Scritch.
Jeok Il, at the front, scratched the ground with his sword.
“I acknowledge it.”
His voice was clear and calm, which made it even more unsettling. Since they arrived, they had only heard threats and screams from the Demonic Cultists. This was the first calm voice they had heard.
Jeok Il glared at the allied forces with cold eyes.
“Even you lowly Central Plains people have some who are useful.”
Everyone’s faces hardened.
It was mockery disguised as respect, and disregard disguised as praise.
“But nothing changes.”
Jeok Il slowly pulled down the mask covering his face, showing rough, scarred skin and lips as dark as dried blood. His eyes turned red.
“You dare challenge us? You will die.”
His lips twitched.
“But don’t worry. Your deaths will show everyone how much to fear the cult, how great our leader is, and how weak you are…”
“Geez, you talk too much.”
Chung Myung interrupted Jeok Il.
Jeok Il closed his mouth and glared at him. Chung Myung sneered.
“If you want to talk so much, answer my question.”
Jeok Il’s mouth twisted.
“Talking to someone like you makes me sick… but the cult is merciful. Speak, fool. What do you want to know?”
“Why did you come to the Central Plains?”
“…What?”
“One sub-leader and this many Demonic Cultists… It seems one area is acting alone. You shouldn’t have that much power, right?”
Jeok Il’s eyes widened.
It was unexpected. Were these people really from the Central Plains?
“Who… are you?”
How could someone from the Central Plains know this?
Chung Myung smirked.
“Could it be that you… are traitors?”
An immense killing intent exploded from the Demonic Cultists. Not only the Law Enforcement Officers but even the Demonic Cultists behind them released demonic energy and killing intent.
It was so strong that even Hong Gyeon flinched.
“How dare… How dare you!”
Jeok Il, who had been calm, looked like he had lost his mind.
“To say such things! How dare you! You are less than a bug! How dare you!”
He almost screamed.
No one understood this sudden reaction, because no one knew what being a traitor meant to the Demonic Cult.
“No, no.”
Chung Myung spoke calmly.
“Someone like you couldn’t even be a traitor, right? If anyone was a traitor, it would be the leader.”
Chung Myung looked at the brothel and asked.
“What do you think? Is he a traitor?”
“Shut your mouth, you dog!”
Jeok Il roared, completely losing his mind.
“How could you understand the sub-leader’s great ideas! You can’t even imagine what he felt when he came to this filthy land!”
“Hoo…”
Chung Myung’s eyes gleamed.
‘That’s right.’
This confirmed it. If the real Demonic Cult had moved, a sub-leader wouldn’t have led his area to the Central Plains alone. This was the sub-leader’s own plan.
Just knowing this was his goal. If they could deal with these guys, the Demonic Cult’s invasion would stop for now.
But for that to happen…
“How amusing.”
Chung Myung smiled cruelly.
“The Demonic Cult is falling apart. Good thinking. Smart choice. It’s been over a hundred years since the Heavenly Demon died, and those still worshipping a dead man? How pathetic.”
“Krrr…”
Blue veins bulged on Jeok Il’s neck and face. He was completely lost in anger, his eyes burning with such hate, it felt like physical pain.
He didn’t rush out because he was controlling his anger. The anger was so strong it held him in place.
“Don’t worry. I’ll help you if things go wrong.”
Chung Myung smiled and flicked his sword.
“Even if the Heavenly Demon comes back, who says his head won’t be chopped off again? Right?”
“Youuuuuu!”
Filled with anger, Jeok Il charged forward without thinking.
His plan was to gather the Demonic Cultists and surround them. That was the best way to deal with a small group.
Demonic martial arts made people lose their minds. There was a big difference between rushing in like a beast and moving under command.
If he had calmly managed those behind him, it wouldn’t have been so hard to deal with them.
But now, Chung Myung’s words had burned away all his plans, leaving nothing but ashes.
“I’m going to tear your mouth apart!”
Jeok Il had lost his mind the most.
Like a dragon thrashing when hurt, Jeok Il charged at Chung Myung, his territory of the Heavenly Demon violated. The Demonic Cultists behind him surged forward like a black wave.
It was a frenzy of madness. It was a sight that would have scared anyone, but Chung Myung smiled brightly.
The crimson sword energy swirled around his sword.
“This is why I like the Demonic Cult.”
Wham!
Chung Myung kicked off the ground and met Jeok Il, who was flying toward him.
Fighting an enemy was war. But dealing with a beast that had lost its mind was just hunting. Chung Myung’s sword, which had hunted the Demonic Cult many times, shone brighter than ever in the darkness.
