Return of the Mount Hua Sect [EN]: Chapter 814

You Better Have Your Neck Ready, You Bastard! (4)

Hot oil poured down like rain from above. From below, black arrows flew up and up, never stopping. Golden light shone from the Shaolin monks, moving like dragons across the cliff. The Wudang swordsmen made walls of white swords that covered the rock.

“What is *this*?” Baek Cheon thought, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew he should be calm in a fight, but looking at this, no one could stay calm. Even the tough warriors from the Myriad Man House, their enemies, stared with wide eyes. It was more than just amazing; it was terrifying.

It was a fight of power and plans. Good against evil. Everything that makes a battle between martial artists was crashing together. Like Jang Il-so said, there were no rules or honor here. Only one thing mattered: the strong wish to kill the enemy and the even stronger need to live.

The air was thick with smells: hot oil burning, the sharp smell of blood, and the smoky smell of gunpowder. There was another smell too, something heavy and bad that he couldn’t name, making his head spin. *This is what a real battlefield is like!* It felt like something heavy and wet was stuck to his skin. Each breath was hard to take, and his thoughts were cloudy, like being lost in thick fog.

Baek Cheon had fought in many battles with Chung Myung before. He knew he still had much to learn about fighting, but he wasn’t new to war. But *this* battle was different from anything he knew. The armies fighting were huge, and the anger driving them was stronger than he’d ever felt. Most of all, the pure hate they had for each other was terrifying.

“Climb! Keep going!” shouted the Shaolin and Wudang disciples. Their eyes were red with strain, and they bit down hard on their teeth as they climbed. Even when the hot oil burned their skin, they held on tight and pulled themselves up. The evil Demonic Sect members saw them coming and poured even more oil, faster and faster. But it wasn’t just oil now. Getting scared as they saw the good side getting closer, they started throwing huge rocks. They even used their inner power to push the rocks harder and faster, without anyone telling them to.

*CRASH!* A huge rock, knocked aside but not stopped by the swords, smashed into a Shaolin monk’s forehead as he climbed. His skull cracked open, and blood poured down his face. He stumbled, almost falling, then looked up, his face twisted with rage. He ground his teeth. “You… evil monsters!” His face was no longer kind like a monk’s should be. It was full of hate, like a demon’s. He grabbed a sharp rock sticking out of the cliff and pulled himself up again. All kindness and peace were gone from his face, only fierce anger at his enemies remained.

*This is the real battlefield!* he thought. When you are about to die, you see what people are really like. This battle showed the raw truth of people. Here, all the talk about being good and honorable meant nothing. *No, wait!* Not yet. This isn’t really a battlefield for true martial artists. Not yet.

“Sasuk!” Yoon Jong called out, his voice urgent.

“Yes,” Baek Cheon replied. Yoon Jong felt it too. They had seen this before, many times. This was just the start. The real fight, the fight of true martial artists, begins when…

“He’s moving!” Jo Gul shouted. Then, Namgung Hwang and Heo Do-jin started to climb, moving incredibly fast. Right after them, Beopgye, leading the older Shaolin monks, jumped up the cliff like a dragon flying upwards.

Baek Cheon looked up, his eyes searching quickly for one person.

“I’ll take your head, you monster!” Chung Myung’s voice boomed out, loud enough to shake the cliff. Then, like a snake striking, Chung Myung shot across the rock face. *Finally*, he was really fighting.

*This is it!* Baek Cheon thought, his jaw tight with excitement and worry.

Up until now, it was more like a fight between armies, not really a battle for martial arts experts. But the biggest difference between those two is this: the really strong fighters. These masters are so powerful they can change the whole battle with just one sword move or one punch. Where they go, the battle goes.

*Chung Myung!* Baek Cheon saw Chung Myung running on the cliff, and enemies from the Myriad Man House jumping down to attack him. As soon as he saw it, Baek Cheon shouted without thinking, “Masters! Un Geom Sasuk! Hyun Sang Sasuk!”

“Yes!” they replied at once.

“We’ll handle this part!” Right after Un Geom and Hyun Sang answered, Baek Cheon swung his sword hard at the enemies in front of him and yelled, “Lee Seol! Yoon Jong! Jo Gul!”

“Yes.”

“Yes, Sasuk!”

“Ready!”

“W-What about me?” Tang Soso asked quickly.

Baek Cheon answered right away, “Soso, stay with the main group! Keep everyone safe!”

“Yes!”

“Let’s go! We have to protect Chung Myung!”

“Yes!” Baek Cheon and the other four jumped off the cliff without a second thought.

Baek Cheon jumped far down, landing lightly on the cliff face with his toes. *Screeeech!* As he slowed for a moment, *Tap!* Baek Cheon pushed off the cliff again and shot forward, incredibly fast.

“Go, brothers!” someone from Mount Hua shouted.

“You monsters, this is Mount Hua!” A huge cheer went up from the Mount Hua group as they saw the Five Swordsmen running together on the cliff. Some people might be better at moving fast and light, but not on a cliff like this. Who learns to fight on cliffs?

“This little cliff is nothing to Mount Hua!” Baek Cheon thought, running across the slick rock as easily as walking on level ground, chasing Chung Myung. He saw an enemy from the Myriad Man House falling down towards Chung Myung’s head while Chung Myung was fighting another enemy. He was too far to stop it himself. But he didn’t need to worry. Yoo Iseol was here, the best at moving lightly and quickly.

“Samae!” Baek Cheon called to his younger sister.

“Yes.” Right then, Yoo Iseol, running behind him, jumped off the cliff and flew upwards. Baek Cheon kept running and just held his sword out in front of him. Yoo Iseol spun in the air and landed on Baek Cheon’s sword. As soon as her feet touched the blade, Baek Cheon swung his sword forward, pushing Yoo Iseol ahead like a spring.

*Whoosh!* Yoo Iseol flew like a bird, soaring across the cliff.

“Die!” yelled the enemies from the Myriad Man House. They were almost on top of Chung Myung and swung their swords as hard as they could. They wanted to hit Chung Myung even if they fell off the cliff doing it!

But Chung Myung didn’t even look up. He just kept running forward.

“Hey!” they shouted, feeling ignored, and put even more power into their swords. *Flash!* Suddenly, Yoo Iseol flew in, her sword flashing. She spun, and red light burst from her sword, like a wave of fire, knocking away the enemies aiming for Chung Myung.

“Ah!” The Myriad Man House warriors were terrified by the sudden sword light and jumped back. One of them just managed to block the light with his sword, but Chung Myung was already past them, running further up.

“You witch!” one of the enemies yelled, his eyes bloodshot with anger. He swung his sword at Yoo Iseol, but she pushed off the cliff a few times and shot up over their heads in a blink, flying forward again.

“W-What?” The Myriad Man House warriors stared, eyes wide. *On this cliff?* Jumping and moving fast on the ground was normal for them. It was amazing she was so fast you couldn’t even see her move, but most of them could do something like that. But this was a cliff!

*Clang! Clang clang clang!* They were falling down and couldn’t get anywhere. They hammered their swords into the rock to stop themselves. They managed to hold on, but Chung Myung and Yoo Iseol were already far ahead.

“Ch-Chase…” one of the Myriad Man House warriors managed to say weakly.

“Where do you think you’re going, you evil monsters!” Just then, Yoon Jong and Jo Gul, running right behind them, crashed into them like a storm. One of the Myriad Man House warriors opened his eyes wide.

*N-No…* *Snikt!* They were still trying to hold onto the cliff with their swords, so they couldn’t even defend themselves from the attacks coming from behind. The ones in front were stabbed through in a flash, blood spraying out as they fell. The ones behind just gave up and jumped off the cliff to escape.

Yoon Jong and Jo Gul, who had taken down more than ten enemies in seconds, shouted to Baek Cheon, who was already far ahead, “We’re right behind you!”

“Good!” Baek Cheon shouted back.

Baek Cheon ran faster, his teeth clenched tight. He saw Chung Myung racing ahead, and Yoo Iseol moving above him like a guard. “We can’t let Chung Myung be stopped!” he thought. As if they heard him, attacks flew up from below, one after another, aimed right at Chung Myung’s head. Hae Yeon was helping them perfectly, guiding their attacks.

“L-Look at that…” The disciples from the Nine Great Sects, struggling to climb, couldn’t hide their shock. They had heard stories about the Mount Hua Five Swords, but they thought they were just young students. It was already crazy how they ran on the cliff like it was flat ground, jumping over rocks like squirrels, but now they were doing tricks on the cliff? How could they do that and not fall? It was like they had ten lives!

Jin Hyun bit his lip hard. *Damn it, Mount Hua Sword…*! He remembered seeing Baek Cheon at Jongdo Hall. Back then, Baek Cheon wasn’t much better than him. But now, Baek Cheon was doing things he couldn’t even dream of. He was barely able to climb, while Baek Cheon was flying like a hawk? *How did he get so much stronger?* Jin Hyun’s eyes burned with anger and jealousy.

But Jin Hyun’s anger was nothing compared to Namgung Dowi’s rage. “Th-This can’t be happening…” Namgung Dowi watched Chung Myung from below, so angry he didn’t even notice he was biting his lip so hard it bled. He felt like all the blood in his body was rushing backwards. “Mount Hua Divine Dragon!” Everyone called Chung Myung that. And Chung Myung *was* like a dragon on the cliff. But Namgung Dowi, called “Danaek Sword” (the sword that can split mountains), was just hanging onto the cliff, struggling to climb?

“Aaargh!” Namgung Dowi roared, losing control. He started climbing like a madman, moving wildly.

“Dowi, calm down!”

“It’s too dangerous!” his family elders shouted, worried. But Namgung Dowi wanted to scream back at them. *Dangerous?* Weren’t they all in danger? Students from a small, weak sect like Mount Hua were taking over the whole battle. How could he just stand by and worry about being safe?

“Changung Sword Team, follow me! We have to protect the Namgung family name!”

“Yes!” the young Namgung warriors shouted back, their voices strong. They didn’t say it, but their eyes were burning with the same fighting spirit as Namgung Dowi. They all thought the same thing: *We will not lose to Mount Hua! We have to risk everything and climb faster!* As the Namgung family warriors climbed faster, they started to get mixed in with the Wudang group.

And then, *Taaaaap!* “Oooooooooh!” Namgung Hwang pushed off the cliff and flew upwards, like a dragon taking flight. *These young ones!* He saw how active Mount Hua was, even from up here. Younger fighters, who hadn’t lived even half as long as him, were risking everything. He was the leader of his sect; he couldn’t worry about being safe.

“Jang Il-soooo!” Namgung Hwang shouted, just after he knocked away a huge wave of oil with his sword. He was finally about to reach the top of the cliff.

“So, a young dog shows his teeth!” a voice boomed back. Suddenly, the cliff, which seemed to reach the clouds, was covered in darkness. It was like a black sun was rising above them. *B-Black Dragon…*

“Take this!” The Black Dragon King swung his heavy blade. Black sword energy poured down like a dark waterfall. *Kaaaaaah!* The Black Dragon King’s attack, powerful enough to split the cliff like a god’s spear, flew straight towards Namgung Hwang.
