Revenge Comes with Interest 110
110. Why Did It Have to Be You?
2023.11.18.
Sarah focused intently, doing her best to stay alert as she supported Grace.
Fortunately, Grace mustered her strength, and they managed to leave the scene safely.
“I… I don’t know who you are, but thank… thank you for saving me.”
Even while walking unsteadily, Leah felt she should express her gratitude.
Of course, she still didn’t know that Sarah was the one who had saved her. All she knew was that it was a woman with a gun.
“What nerve do you have, wandering around alone like that?”
Sarah didn’t know why Grace had been assaulted by those women, but she thought Grace was being careless.
Even in broad daylight, there were plenty of unsavory characters lurking in back alleys.
If someone looked vulnerable, it was common for them to be quietly dragged away and robbed.
‘Well, I guess the world looks beautiful to a noble lady.’
“I bet you never imagined you’d be attacked like that in the middle of a crowded market.”
Sarah muttered to herself, repeatedly raising her hand to call for a carriage. But for some reason, it was hard to catch one that day.
As the sun set and shops began to close, Sarah led Grace into a small church nearby.
It was the only place where women could safely take refuge.
“Let’s rest here for a bit.”
Sarah sat Grace down on an empty pew.
Fortunately, there were a few worshippers praying, so she asked them for directions to the nearest hospital.
Leah’s vision was clouded red.
She thought her eyes were injured from being beaten, but it turned out her scalp was cut, and blood was running down her face.
She wiped her blood-soaked eyes with her sleeve. Finally, she made out the figure of a woman walking toward her.
‘Huh?’
The approaching face looked very familiar.
‘Could it be… Sarah?’
Leah was shocked to realize that Sarah was the one who had saved her.
She had thought the voice sounded familiar, but she never imagined Sarah would be in Lubeck.
‘Was Sarah the one who fired the gun, too?’
She couldn’t make sense of how this was possible.
How did Sarah come all the way here to save her…?
“Sarah?”
Leah called her name without realizing it, just like in the old days.
“Since you remember me, I guess your head isn’t injured too badly.”
“Did Sarah save me?”
Leah couldn’t believe it even as she asked Sarah.
“It just happened that way.”
Sarah replied coldly. It sounded like, ‘It’s not like I wanted to save you.’
Sarah roughly explained the situation to Leah.
She had left Galdenia and come to Lubeck, and she happened to be at the market when she saw Leah being dragged away by the women.
Leah looked at Sarah with a blank expression.
Sarah then took a handkerchief from her pocket and wiped the blood from Leah’s mouth.
“Just wait a little longer. They said the hospital is less than 10 minutes away on foot.”
Leah didn’t hear Sarah’s words.
She just couldn’t believe that Sarah had saved her life, and she was furious that fate seemed to be playing tricks on her.
Why did she have to meet Sarah like this, when she hated her so much?
“Straighten your back a little.”
Sarah touched Leah’s hunched back.
“Ah!”
Leah felt a sharp pain in her side. It seemed like she had cracked a rib.
Maybe it was even broken.
“Put your arm around my shoulder.”
Sarah helped Leah up and supported her firmly.
She carried her travel bag in her right hand and supported Leah with her left arm and body. Still, it was a feat that she had made it this far.
“Let’s go. You need to get treatment at the hospital.”
Sarah kept talking, but Leah didn’t say anything. No, she couldn’t.
It was hard for her to accept the situation she was in.
As Sarah opened the door, Leah turned her head and looked at the cross hanging on the far wall.
‘Why are you testing me? Or are you punishing me?’
She resented God for sending Sarah to her, of all people.
There was a time when she was so consumed by hatred that she vowed to kill Sarah on sight.
She had trusted, relied on, and loved her like a sister, so her betrayal had left a deep wound on her soul.
But now, was she being mocked?
Leah burst into tears. Surely, she had avoided great danger because of Sarah, but she wasn’t happy at all.
“Does it hurt a lot? Ah! I see the hospital over there.”
Sarah thought Leah was crying because she was in pain and quickened her pace.
Anyone who saw them would think they were war-torn soldiers returning from the battlefield.
She hated people staring at her at times like this. But things in life never go the way you want them to.
“Lady!”
A young man in uniform led the officers and ran toward Leah.
Wishing to escape the situation of being helped by Sarah, Leah turned her head sharply at the other voice.
“Lou…ie.”
Calling his name and reaching out her hand was the last thing she remembered.
Louie held Leah in his arms and ran to the hospital, surprised that he hadn’t immediately taken care of the strange woman who had helped Leah.
Louie stopped abruptly and shouted to the officers.
“Bring that lady here. Tell her we’ll send her back after the investigation.”
“Yes, sir.”
The officer stopped Sarah, who was about to turn away.
Arriving at the hospital, Louie entrusted Leah to the doctor and sent word to Terrence at the harbor.
As Terrence ordered, Louie rushed to the train station, but there was no one there who looked like a passenger except for the station staff.
Suddenly, he wondered if Grace might have been taken to a hospital if she was injured, so he searched all the hospitals in Lebon.
He was on his way back after failing to find her even at the last small hospital he visited.
It was as if someone had planned it in advance that he would run into Grace.
“Why are you holding me?”
Sarah approached Louie and protested. She was reluctant to meet Terrence.
“We appreciate you saving the lady, but we have many things to investigate.”
‘Damn it! I don’t want to run into Duke Courtois, but wait, he’s never seen me properly. He won’t recognize me.’
Sarah was familiar with Terrence because she had seen him often in news articles.
If she finished the investigation before Grace woke up, she would be able to return. It would be better to meet the Duke sooner rather than later.
As if knowing her wishes, Terrence, dressed in a black uniform, burst into the hospital, his cloak billowing.
The guards following him were all dressed in black, giving off an intimidating aura as if a pack of black panthers were rushing in.
“Your Grace! You’ve arrived?”
“How is Grace?”
“She’s being treated.”
“What’s her condition?”
“It’s severe.”
“Damn it!”
Terrence roared like a beast, venting his frustration. In contrast, Luke froze like a statue when he saw Sarah.
He was just wondering why Allen’s mistress was here. As if to resolve his doubts, Louie spoke up in time.
“This woman saved the lady. She met me on the way to the hospital, supporting her.”
Terrence, who had been raging, quickly turned his head to look at Sarah.
“That woman saved Grace?”
Terrence confirmed again. How on earth? Alicia and her gang were four women.
He couldn’t believe that this woman alone had subdued them and saved Grace.
But he was even more shocked by what Luke whispered in his ear.
“She’s President Allen McDowell’s mistress.”
“What?”
Everything was a mess in his head and in reality, wondering how things were going.
If the doctor hadn’t called Terrence, he might have grabbed the woman who saved Grace, Allen’s mistress, and interrogated her.
“Duke Courtois, your fiancée is looking for you.”
At the doctor’s call, Terrence’s black cloak fluttered like wings.

Terrence was momentarily shocked to see Leah in such a battered state, but he immediately ran to her and held his injured fiancée in his arms.
“I should have been there to save you. I’m so sorry.”
He couldn’t even breathe properly. His lungs were seething like a volcano about to erupt.
If he had seen Leah so badly injured first, he would have broken Alicia’s neck.
Thud!
Terrence’s body was pushed back.
Grace pushed him away and wore a bewildered expression.
“What’s wrong? Are you angry that I’m late?”
Terrence was deeply embarrassed. The way she looked at him felt strange.
“Who… are you?”
Grace turned and was wary of him. She seemed surprised that a strange man had suddenly hugged her.
“Who am I? You don’t remember… me?”
Well, she had been beaten so badly, she couldn’t be in her right mind.
Tears welled up in Terrence’s eyes when Grace didn’t recognize him.
The fact that he had been erased from her memory felt like the sky was falling.
Was this how Grace felt in the Basel Forest [a place where Grace previously lost her memory]?
Sorrow surged, and a sense of despair swept over him as if the world was ending.
“Grace, look at me. I’m your fiancé, Terrence Courtois.”
Terrence decided to reject the harsh reality. He didn’t want to lose Grace’s memory like this.
To become a forgotten existence to her.
To have to go through that hell again, where one person forgets and the remaining person suffers, the world was too cruel.
Terrence looked around for the doctor.
“Did Grace hit her head?”
He grabbed the doctor and asked abruptly.
“It seems like she has abrasions and a slight crack in her ribs. Other than a split lip and a slightly torn scalp…”
“Then why doesn’t she remember me?”
Terrence grabbed the doctor’s shoulder and shouted violently.
“In my opinion, it seems to be because the shock of the assault was very severe.”
“The shock of the assault?”
He staggered back.
“I will execute Alicia and her gang.”
Terrence gnashed his teeth, his eyes red like a beast. He cupped Leah’s face.
“I will give them back exactly as much as you suffered… and then throw them into hell. So please, don’t forget me.”
Terrence trembled like an aspen tree with unbearable anger.
Leah covered Terrence’s hand without any expression and brought her face close to his ear.
