Revenge Comes with Interest Episode 57. Terrun the Fixer (57/200)
Episode 57. Terrun the Fixer
2023.09.26.
A miraculous thing happened. Among the employees, there were two who knew how to use a sewing machine.
They were the brothers Paul and Tom, whose parents ran a leather workshop in the countryside. They had acquired sewing machines a few years ago and learned by observing them.
Now all Terrun had to do was safely acquire the sewing machine.
“You have to be careful not to mix up the patterns of the clothes,” Leia told the employees, outlining the precautions to take when cutting the fabric. Then Sonia and Adolf approached and spoke sternly.
“Everyone, step back. This is not work that you can handle carelessly.”
At Sonia’s words, the maids looked at Leia.
“We cannot entrust our work to others,” Adolf said firmly. It seemed they had finally made up their minds.
Their lives must be precious, too. How unfair would it be to leave a defeated country and come to a foreign land only to be hanged?
“Sonia, Adolf, thank you. But we still need people to assist, so have the maids help.”
Leia respected their wishes.
“That’s a relief, miss,” Pauline said, her eyes welling up with tears, as if she was relieved.
She had been anxious because the people who should have been rushing to work were standing idle.
Leia patted Pauline on the shoulder and headed towards the window.
It was already afternoon. She had been waiting for Terrun to return, but he hadn’t shown up.
‘I trust Terrun.’
Leia calmed her uneasy heart and called Paul and Tom to talk. She needed to understand how to use the sewing machine.
“But why did you come all the way to Rebon instead of taking over the family business?”
“Even in the countryside, they didn’t welcome sewing machines. It was only okay because it was the only leather workshop we had.”
“It wasn’t very profitable for four family members to rely on a small workshop.”
Paul and Tom took turns answering Leia’s question. It was the same reason why Hamilton’s trading company couldn’t sell sewing machines.
“I’ll trust only you two.”
When Leia sincerely asked Paul and Tom, their faces flushed.
Just then, Chaner’s footsteps pounded down the hallway.
“Sister! The mister is here! And my brother is here too!”
“Really!”
Chaner had been waiting for Luke while swinging on the swing in the garden, and she was the first to recognize him and ran over.
Leia quickly ran to meet Terrun, rushing so much that she didn’t remember how she got to the first-floor lobby, and she was already heading to the yard past the lobby.
“Please!”
Leia waited for him with her hands together, and soon Terrun and Luke came running on horseback.
Behind them, a cart carried something covered in tarpaulin.
‘He succeeded. Terrun is definitely a fixer [someone who solves problems, often through unconventional means].’
Leia’s heart was full. But the closer Terrun got, the stranger it felt.
His face was scarred in places as if he had been scraped by something, and there were clear bloodstains on his uniform.
‘Was he hurt?’
Her heart sank, and her heart started to beat faster.
“Terrun!”
Leia called him with all her might. Before she knew it, Terrun had dismounted and was striding towards her.
Leia ran without hesitation and jumped into his arms, and Terrun hugged her and spun her around.
“Thank you for coming back safely.”
“Sorry I’m late.”
“Late? Not at all. But are you hurt?”
Leia stepped back from his arms for a moment and gently touched the wounds on his face with her hand.
“There was a bit of a commotion.”
“A commotion?”
“It’s nothing. You don’t need to know.”
“We need to put medicine on the wounds.”
Leia took Terrun’s hand and headed to the main building.
Meanwhile, Luke had the soldiers move the sewing machine inside. But Terrun, who had been walking well with Leia holding hands, suddenly stopped and looked at her seriously.
“What’s wrong?”
“How many grapes is this?”
Terrun asked with a very serious expression. Even though Leia burst into laughter, Terrun still looked at her earnestly.
“It must be more than ten.”
“Of course.”
Only then did Terrun smile contentedly and walk with Leia again.
Meanwhile, Chaner ran to Luke.
“Brother, did the mister fight?”
“How did you know that?”
Chaner sometimes made people feel eerie like this. She was like a child, but sometimes she spoke like a prophet.
“The mister had scars on his face and blood all over his clothes.”
“Oh…? Ah, right.”
Luke awkwardly laughed, feeling like he had been caught off guard. It was a situation that anyone could have predicted.
But the fight between Terrun and Sarubi was truly amazing.
Unlike Sarubi, who showed off his flamboyant swordsmanship, Terrun did not move easily. He crouched like a beast aiming for its prey, and then struck when he saw the opportunity.
Less than 10 minutes after the fight started, Sarubi’s sword flew into the air.
Instead, Luke saw Sarubi, trampled by Terrun’s military boots, writhing like a turtle flipped on its back.
[It’s been 7 years, the years I’ve spent rolling around in corpse fields. I’ve seen countless times the sight of soldiers’ bodies being torn to pieces by cannonballs right in front of me.]
Terrun said with an emotionless face, but his sharp sword tip was aimed at Sarubi’s neck.
Luke felt the joy of the victor even though he was just watching. Of course, Terrun didn’t like it very much. Only when the sewing machine appeared did a smile bloom on his face.
“So, did the mister kill him?”
“No, the Duke doesn’t commit innocent killings.”
“Ah, I see. But it’s not the mister’s blood.”
Luke was once again creeped out by Chaner’s words. Has she reached the point where she can distinguish the smell of human blood? No. She must have just guessed and got it right.
“The mister is very kind.”
“He is merciful. It was a bet that ended in death, but he spared him. He just beat him to the point of death and ended it.”
“Aww! Boring. Originally, you’re supposed to gouge out eyes or cut off tongues, right?”
“What?”
In this case, women usually scream or cover their faces with their hands with a horrified expression.
‘What did that old man Rapa show her?’
Luke covered Chaner’s face with both hands and said very seriously.
“Chaner, you can’t say things like that carelessly from now on. You’re a lady. You only use good and beautiful words. Okay?”
“I’ll promise if brother kisses me.”
“Kiss? Where?”
“Anywhere is fine.”
Luke saw Chaner blushing for the first time. But something must have gotten into his eyes because she was as pretty as an angel.
“Promise first. That you won’t use bad words.”
“Okay. I promise.”
Chaner hooked her little finger with Luke. Soon, Luke kissed Chaner on the forehead.
Instantly, as if struck by lightning, his whole body tingled and Chaner looked different. The freckles on the bridge of her nose were cute, and there was no ugly spot anywhere.
‘Was Chaner this pretty?’
He was also surprised and embarrassed, but Chaner ran to the main building and shouted.
“Pauline, sister! I kissed Luke, brother! I might have a baby!”
Luke staggered.
‘That’s right. It’s my fault for expecting too much from her.’
* * *
Terrun took a bath as soon as he returned and went to bed.
Of course, Leia put medicine on the wounds on his face in the meantime and was about to leave the bed, but she was grabbed by the back of her neck.
That’s how Leia had to stay in Terrun’s arms until he fell asleep.
She wanted to sing a lullaby so that he would fall asleep even a second faster, but her nerves were focused elsewhere.
Then, suddenly, when she saw the wounds on his face, her heart ached.
‘Every time because of me…….’
She didn’t know what he had gone through today, but it couldn’t have been easy.
That’s why he fell asleep so quickly. She was ashamed of herself for being impatient for him to fall asleep faster.
She carefully stroked Terrun’s face with her hand. Then his lips turned up nicely. He liked it, feeling her touch even in his sleep.
‘Cute.’
At that moment, Leia felt a sense of fulfillment for the first time.
Complex and difficult things such as the tragedies she had experienced and the revenge she had to take in the future temporarily disappeared from her mind.
It was as if her heart, which had only been a shell, was filled with warmth through communion with Terrun.
If she was as happy as she was at this moment, it would be a life without regrets.
‘Thank you, I’m not lonely because of you.’
Leia’s eyes welled up with tears.
She stayed by Terrun’s side until he was completely asleep.
As Terrun’s breathing deepened, Leia quietly left the room. But she heard a rattling sound all the way to the hallway. It was the sound of a sewing machine working.
Leia ran to the workshop in one breath. Finally, when she entered, Paul and Tom were diligently sewing.
“Miss, have you come?”
“Yes. Where are Sonia and Adolf?”
“They took the parts that needed hand sewing to their quarters.”
“Don’t worry about me and do your work.”
Leia went to the sofa and watched the two working. Then Paul smiled brightly and said to Leia.
“You can come and watch. It doesn’t bother me.”
He seemed to have noticed Leia’s face sparkling with curiosity.
“Can I?”
Leia lifted a chair and sat next to Paul, watching him sew.
She couldn’t take her eyes off the magical sight of the needle sewing the fabric as she stepped on the pedal with her foot.
‘Is this the power of science?’
Hand sewing is also excellent, but sewing machines have the advantage of shortening people’s working hours and giving them leisure.
“It’s so amazing. At this speed, you’ll be able to make everything quickly. Besides, you’re also very skilled at sewing, aren’t you?”
“You flatter me. Well, it won’t take that long, miss.”
Paul also smiled brightly as if he liked Leia encouraging him.
At that moment, the workshop door opened, and the sound of the sewing machine stopped abruptly. It was because they saw one person standing in front of the door.
‘I’m going crazy, really.’
Leia saw Terrun and realized what she had done.
“Terrun, why did you come out without sleeping?”
As Leia was embarrassed, he looked at her and Paul alternately with a sulky face.
