To Teacher, From Vanessa 29
5th Grade, 1st Semester.
To my Teacher,
Can you believe it? Your ‘academically immature’ Vanessa Rose is already a 5th grader at Bamberg Academy!
The second semester of 4th grade flew by so fast. I can barely remember what happened!
I definitely remember Chevati inviting me to stay at the Milo Dotti mansion over the winter, but after that, it’s all a blur.
How could an entire semester just vanish from my head? Let me try to recall…
March was for studying, April was for studying. May was also studying… and June was for preparing for the end-of-semester exams.
Ah, I finally know why I can’t remember! Every day was just so monotonously the same.
I’m so sad I couldn’t go to the cottage you invited me to during this summer vacation.
But I just couldn’t go anywhere. I was stuck at my desk all vacation long! The advanced courses are truly the worst.
Well, think about it. The professors must have been really impatient to refine us troublemaking students and send us off to internships.
Oh, not that I’m talking about myself, of course.
I know Bamberg Academy inside and out now. The hidden staircases and the spaces beneath them, the small door in the library and the sofa hidden inside, the ladder to climb up the low spire, and so on.
So even if I leave for a short internship, the Academy will wait for me, right?
I haven’t decided where to go yet. I don’t have any particular priorities either. I’m just going to follow whatever place the professors recommend.
Still, I’m somehow worried, so I’m working out harder and practicing magic more diligently.
Many professors have now acknowledged my magical skills, so I believe I won’t cause any trouble wherever I go.
I don’t know the conditions, but I’ve learned a lot of incantation magic and I’m very good at drawing magic circles, so I just need some time.
The internship location will probably be decided within this week.
Thanks to that, I can relax without classes this week! I’m rolling around on the grass in the sunshine every day.
I’m sad that I’ll be separated from Lina and Chevati. Lina wanted to go work and learn at a trading company, and Chevati decided to work under a famous magical engineering technician.
We can exchange letters often, but we probably won’t see each other much for almost a semester.
I need to shake it off, but… I guess I relied on Lina and Chevati more than I thought.
I’m learning to ride horses these days. It’s a horse raised at the Academy, and it’s gentle and pretty. It sometimes rears up when it’s angry, so I have to brush it diligently and play with it.
Somehow, I’m getting a lot of thoughts while writing this,
Vanessa Rose, dreaming.
To my Teacher,
The internship location has finally been decided. I’m a bit dazed because I’m going to the Special Task Force.
As far as I know, quite a few students applied to the Special Task Force. Evan, Moshwi, and Dalloise are obvious choices, and there are about 10 more.
But I was a bit surprised that I got in even though I didn’t apply. The Special Task Force is a very popular internship location. I heard that it adds a lot of points later on.
The professors were surprised that I didn’t apply to the Special Task Force. I took classes related to magical creatures in the second semester of 4th grade, and I received good reviews in
I just liked getting stronger as I exercised and found it interesting to learn about magical creatures.
Magical creatures have their uses, right? Like bones or scales?
Anyway, I’m glad I’m going with Evan, Moshwi, and Dalloise. They’re the friends I’ve been closest to in similar classes.
There are many things to prepare before going. The seniors told me to make sure to bring a few things, but most of them can be found nearby.
The professors are probably planning to provide a month of training suitable for the internship location and send us right away.
I’m excited and worried at the same time. I’m afraid I’ll cause an accident. What should I do?
Very worried,
Vanessa Rose, dreaming.
To Vanessa Rose,
I’m sorry for the late reply; I’ve been busy lately.
Vanessa, if you don’t like the internship location, please tell the professor. It’s probably not finalized yet, so they will change it for you.
I heard that the place where the Special Task Force is currently active is very dangerous.
Personally, I hope Vanessa will do her internship in a safer place.
Vanessa has excellent magical talent, so there will be opportunities for other good internships even if it’s not the Special Task Force.
I hope you think about it carefully.
From your Teacher.

Vanessa decided to think carefully about what her teacher said.
It was certain that the Special Task Force internship was the most physically demanding, and she knew why her teacher was worried: because it’s dangerous.
So she didn’t give an answer quickly. Anyway, she had to make a decision before she could include new content in her reply.
The advantage of the Special Task Force internship was that it received a fairly large bonus when applying to the Royal Cabinet Department later. This is because the king gives a lot of honor to the Special Task Force members, who sacrifice a lot.
And maybe she could meet Gideon there.
Of course, the probability of meeting was ridiculously low, but it would be really amazing if they met there too.
Since meeting Gideon in Phydom, she had been exchanging small letters about once a month.
The contents were mostly trivial. They shared small, trivial stories: what they liked and what they didn’t like; that book was interesting, but this book was not.
Vanessa liked seeing Gideon’s handwriting—such accurate and neat handwriting.
It was a different feeling from the tingling sensation she felt when she saw her teacher’s handwriting, which was slightly slanted and had many scribbles.
“Vanessa Rose.”
Professor Apher came to Vanessa, who was enjoying a break with Lina and Chevati during the last three days without classes. Vanessa’s eyes widened.
“Can I talk to you for a moment?”
“Yes, Professor.”
As Vanessa stood in front of Professor Apher with a puzzled look, he cleared his throat and started walking first.
As Vanessa followed Professor Apher, the students who were lounging with their friends began to move away. Only then did Professor Apher open his mouth.
“Vanessa, do you have any thoughts about changing your internship location?”
“No, Professor. I don’t have any intention of doing that. Why do you ask?”
As Vanessa asked in bewilderment, Professor Apher lowered his eyes and smiled gently before quickly continuing.
“I received a separate call from your patron asking if it was possible to change to another internship location. So I came to hear your opinion.”
“Pardon?”
“Of course, the patron may care about this, but I don’t think there’s any need to give up a popular internship location.”
Vanessa replayed what she heard with a bewildered expression.
Professor Apher was waiting for Vanessa’s answer with a calm smile on his face.
Vanessa considered the conversation once again and gritted her teeth. *This teacher, really.*
“I’ll talk to my patron separately. Thank you, Professor. Please keep the internship location as it is.”
Professor Apher burst into laughter when he saw Vanessa, whose eyes were spitting fire.
“Okay, I hope you have a good conversation.”
“Professor, but…”
Vanessa stood still and tapped the ground.
“Do you happen to know who my patron is?”
“Vanessa, I don’t know, and I don’t think it’s good for you to know. That’s the same reason why the patron remains anonymous to you—it reduces the burden you will bear.”
Vanessa nodded, her eyes fixed on the floor. *Everyone says the same thing.*

To my Teacher,
I heard that you contacted the Academy.
I believe you did so because you were waiting for my late reply.
However, the reason for the late reply was because I was thinking about it. I know you’re worried.
But I have decided to go to the Special Task Force for my internship. I will soon be leaving for the Tanamir region near the border.
I think that direction will be good for my future. I may get extra points in the interview.
Even if the intervals of contacting become wider, please don’t worry.
I will work hard and come back without causing any trouble.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Rose.

Vanessa, who sent a very short reply, wrapped Hornir [likely a magical artifact or weapon] in cloth and put it inside her bag.
She knew her teacher was worried about her, but she wished he had contacted her first anyway.
As she packed her luggage, focusing on light and warm clothes, and chose shoes with sturdy soles, Lina, who was watching from the side, sighed softly.
“What’s wrong?”
As Vanessa asked in bewilderment, Lina said gloomily.
“Because I’m worried. The place I’m going isn’t dangerous, but the place you’re going might be. What if you get hurt?”
“Would they even make students do anything? Actually, I think the Special Task Force would be very annoyed.”
As Vanessa plopped down on the fluffy carpet and said, Lina tilted her head and said.
“Well, yeah. They’re doing really important work, so it wouldn’t be good to add students.”
“Yeah, because they have to take responsibility for protecting the students. So usually, when students are dispatched for internships, they move to a more comfortable place.”
“These shoes look the best. The leather is soft too. The soles are thick, but I wonder if they’re heavy.”
Lina chose a pair of shoes. The leather was well-tanned, so it was soft but sturdy. It was rough, but the finish was neat, making it practical and luxurious.
“Did the teacher send them? They look like good shoes.”
“No, Cezar did. No, should I call him Vice Minister Cezar?”
“What?”
Suddenly, Lina’s eyes sparkled. Lina couldn’t resist rumors of romance.
“You’re talking about Chevati’s brother? The one in the Magic Technology Department! He’s a Vice Minister at that young age? I didn’t know. Are you still in contact with him?”
