“No. Not now.”
After listening to Professor Verdus again, Lee Han suddenly felt a sense of dread.
Was he being too patient? What if he saved his magic for the perfect moment but never found the chance to use it before graduation?
“…That can’t be. Surely, an opportunity to use it will come.”
“Learn the Bible’s Voyage Enchantment first. Quickly. Why haven’t you learned it yet?”
“Then why haven’t you finished the automatic flying sailboat yet, Professor?”
“That… that’s difficult!”
Professor Verdus felt unfairly criticized by his student’s harsh words. How could someone say such terrible things?
“Hmph. This is difficult too.”
“This isn’t difficult!”
“Sailboats aren’t difficult either, are they?”
“It is difficult!?”
They argued, hardly acting like a dignified magic school teacher and student. Despite this, Lee Han quickly skimmed through the magic.
Fortunately, Bible’s Voyage Enchantment wasn’t that hard once he read it carefully.
‘…Wait. What was I just thinking??’
Lee Han felt a chill. This complex, 4th circle magic didn’t seem that difficult!
From his first year, he had done all sorts of odd jobs that Professor Verdus ordered. To handle them, he had to learn magic separately, which had made his foundation very strong.
Starting with Bible’s Mana Emission Enchantment, he was forcibly improving his understanding of the magic he had learned by heart.
“It’s not difficult! Are you listening?”
Professor Verdus got angry, so Lee Han got angry too.
“Damn it, it’s not difficult! Is that okay with you!”
“O-okay.”
Professor Verdus flinched at Lee Han’s outburst. He sensed the same scary feeling he often got from Professor Garcia, even from his student.
Lee Han grumbled as he learned the magic.
“Not difficult… damn it. This is really absurd.”
‘Is he crazy?’
Professor Verdus felt fear for the first time. His student’s words and actions, which made no sense, frightened him.
“The magic that goes in here is Bible’s Mana Increase Enchantment, right?”
“Yes.”
“This is Curve, this is Acceleration?”
“Yes.”
“Write it properly.”
“If you recognized it, then I wrote it properly. What are you talking about?”
“…I’m not doing it.”
Lee Han suddenly jumped up, furious because the magic was easy and the professor had annoyed him.
Professor Verdus was startled.
“What? Why?”
“Because you didn’t write it properly.”
“You recognized it! What are you talking about!”
“I don’t know, I’m leaving.”
“I’ll give you the pay for the work you promised Kettle, you know?!”
Professor Verdus scurried, running to Lee Han’s left and right, trying to block him. He could replace any other student, but not this one.
Lee Han ignored him, dodged to the side, and took out his wand to release the magic barrier.
“I’ll write properly! I’ll write properly!”
“Hmph. I’ll be watching.”
The student barely stopped and sat down again. Professor Verdus grumbled quietly.
“You recognized it, so why such inefficient…”
“I’m leaving.”
“No! No! No!”
Lee Han looked at the object floating in the air, a makeshift wooden raft made by pulling out one of the pillars from the stable, with interest. He wondered if this was okay.
‘Probably not.’
Lee Han decided that if the stable keeper found out, he would blame Professor Verdus. Then, he asked,
“Professor, why aren’t you floating a sailboat and having me make a new one and float it?”
“You need to do it yourself to know the difference.”
Professor Verdus brought Lee Han for a simple reason:
1. Put Lee Han on a small sailboat.
2. Lee Han overloads the magic circles on the small sailboat with mana.
3. Experiment with magic like Bible’s Voyage Enchantment or Bible’s Flight Enchantment with the mana secured.
4. If something goes wrong, Lee Han injects mana into the spare magic circle to stabilize it.
5. If that doesn’t work, control it instead.
6. Never break it!
“So you’re really just recording from below, Professor?”
“I’m casting magic too!”
“You’re maintaining it with the mana I put in, though?”
“Yes.”
Instead of getting angry, Lee Han nodded. There was no reason to get angry just because the professor was making him do everything from preparing the experiment to executing, confirming, and recording it. Professors were just like that.
“Then let’s start.”
“Clear the empty space in the middle of the deck. I’m casting!”
Professor Verdus took out a spellbook and threw it into the empty space in the ship’s magic circle, which was added so that it could be moved only by Professor Verdus’s magic instead of controlling the helm.
The voyage would begin when magic was cast here.
Mana was drawn from the mana securing magic circle on the small sailboat. Thanks to Lee Han’s extra mana, it was easy to secure spare mana.
Otherwise, he would have had to dismantle all the magic circles and reconfigure them for automatic operation. Since such artifacts require precise mana calculations, adding new magic was complicated.
“Go! Voyage Enchantment!”
Professor Verdus shouted, jumping up and down. The small sailboat moved and floated with only the power of magic, even though Lee Han didn’t touch it. Lee Han carefully watched the movement.
If it floated differently from the wooden raft that Lee Han had cast earlier, it meant something was wrong.
‘It matches.’
“How is it?! It seems to match, right?!”
“Yes!”
“Good!”
Professor Verdus signaled to land. When Lee Han threw the anchor, the sailboat slowly landed.
“Amazing. Just looking at it floating in the air, isn’t it completely automatic?”
“That’s the easiest part. And small sailboats like this have fewer errors.”
The more magic, the more collisions and errors. A smaller sailboat would naturally work better than a giant galleon.
“Now. Next is Bible’s Flight Enchantment.”
“Indeed. What do I need to do?”
“You have to learn it again, like before.”
Lee Han glared at Professor Verdus as if he would kill him. Professor Verdus said, embarrassed,
“It’s obvious!”
The professor’s student re-entered learning with a murderous murmur.
Lee Han succeeded in casting Bible’s Flight Enchantment on the wooden raft in an even shorter time than before.
“Oh. It’s moving. Can’t you increase the speed more from here?”
“You have to add more magic to that. Isn’t it fun?”
“No.”
Lee Han was honestly a little amused, but he denied it. Professor Verdus grumbled,
“You’re having fun…”
“I’m leaving.”
“Ah, no! No! Let’s make it not fun! Here. Get back on!”
Professor Verdus hurriedly put his student on the sailboat, afraid he would run away. After getting on, Lee Han activated the voyage spellbook and then the flight spellbook.
The sailboat began to move in the sky without instructions. Unlike before, there was a rattling movement.
‘Mana is bouncing.’
Being on the sailboat, Lee Han could react faster than Professor Verdus. Mana was bouncing among the magic circles. The new magic was causing the problem.
‘Is it the hull strengthening magic? This seems like wind resistance magic. No. Why do you need anti-corrosion magic when you’re flying through the sea? I should turn this off if it doesn’t work. I can endure it for now.’
“Put mana into the spare magic circle if you think it’s not going to work! It’s shaking a lot!”
“I think it’s okay for now!”
Lee Han shouted down and explained what he had found.
Professor Verdus was pleased that his student was doing better than expected, so he gave him more work.
“That’s good! If you can figure it out there, just record it!”
Lee Han was silent, seeing the professor pass on his only job to him.
‘I shouldn’t have said anything…’
While Lee Han was recording, Professor Verdus was pleased with his capable student. Seeing that he was more outstanding than expected, he thought he could entrust him with other tasks.
“Land!”
Professor Verdus sent a signal. Lee Han nodded and prepared to land.
“Huh!”
“What’s wrong?”
“There! Lagesha!”
Professor Verdus pointed far below. Unlike the people leaving through the 7th floor, Lagesha was heading to the main gate with her pirate slaves.
Professor Verdus was surprised.
“She’s leaving sooner than expected?”
“Then shall I give it to her now?”
“No! We just started! We haven’t even solved the problems that just came out! Come down quickly!”
Professor Verdus rejected his student’s suggestion and gestured. Whether Lagesha was disappointed or not, the important thing was to complete a better work.
“…Wait. Where are you going? Hey! Where are you going?!”
Professor Verdus was flustered as he waited for his student to land. The small sailboat was flying away from the Spire Stables!
“Come back! I said come back!”
Lagesha, walking towards the main gate, looked up in surprise when a small boat flew from behind.
‘What is it? Is Bible attacking me?’
Looking at the sailboat, it was the one Professor Verdus was making. Lagesha was even more surprised when Lee Han jumped down.
“What is it?”
“Lady Lagesha. Professor Verdus has finally completed his work and has come to deliver it.”
“…Don’t lie!”
‘How did she know?’
Lee Han was amazed by Lagesha’s reaction.
How did she know?
“Actually, he didn’t complete it, but I stole it and came to deliver it.”
“…Tell me in detail.”
Lagesha looked uncomprehending. Lee Han explained briefly that Professor Verdus had completed it to some extent but was too greedy…
“Isn’t that guy crazy!”
At Lagesha’s reaction, the pirate slaves nodded. Even the pirates thought it sounded crazy.
After all, all wizards were crazy.
“So?”
“I thought that if I left it alone, I would only be making enemies for the professor, so I stole it.”
Lagesha laughed. The old pirate chuckled.
“Bible may not be good at anything else, but he’s really lucky with his students. He always picks students who look just like him, but this time, what wind of fortune blew…”
“Actually, I brought it out not for Professor Verdus, but for the Empire’s justice.”
“If you ever think about it, come to the Empire’s southern privateer fleet. I’ll let you plunder to your heart’s content next to this daughter of Torgeird.”
Lee Han was tempted but gave up. Being a pirate in the Empire was not stable.
“Thank you, kid. It was an unexpected gift. This makes this visit to Einrogard very satisfying.”
Lagesha held out the sailboat to Lee Han.
Lee Han was startled.
“Are you going to return it to the professor?!”
“Are you crazy? Why would I give it to Bible?”
Lagesha said seriously. Lee Han apologized.
“I’m sorry.”
“I’m giving it to you as a gift, kid. If what Bible said is true, you can improve it more.”
“I don’t have the ability to improve it like Professor Verdus…”
“I think you’ll have it in a year.”
“Half a year? Three months?”
“No.”
