It’s an attack!
The demons were the first to sense the coming storm.
The demons waited at the back of the army. They wanted fresh blood and souls. They were horrified by the sudden magical storm.
“How dare you!”
The nine-headed demon was very angry. He was a chief blacksmith for Esadojiqua and the siege commander.
The roar was not just anger. The demons’ hellish siege engines began to fire.
Souls were trapped in the copper cannons. They cried out and turned into energy. The young Skull Archmage moved quickly and dodged the energy. It burned the earth and tore through the air. He showed he did not respect the demons.
“Demons,” he said. “Your race will pay forever for this evil.”
“How dare a mortal speak such nonsense!” the demon yelled. “Magician! You can’t fight back against me, or your race!”
“We shall see.”
The young Skull Archmage moved his hand slightly. A small, perfect sphere of water floated above his finger.
No demon could guess what magic he was using.
He just floated a drop of water above his finger, but then…
Boom!
They were still confused. Then, the shock came. The water droplet flew from the young Skull Archmage’s hand faster than anyone could see.
A cone-shaped shockwave and bluish-white light spread everywhere. The demons didn’t have time to watch what the water droplet did.
The water droplet tore apart their siege engines. It destroyed the copper cannons, war chariots, and siege rams that had held screaming souls. Each time the water touched, the huge weapons exploded and broke apart. These weapons were made with the demons’ blood and sweat.
This was much stronger than Ihan’s water magic. He could only push water together and spin it. This single water droplet had dozens of attributes, ideas, and concepts.
The demons tried to fight back, but the young Skull Archmage was already gone. The nine-headed demon trembled and shouted.
“Magician! If I catch you, I will only leave your heart and eyes. You will hang forever and suffer!”
But Ihan thought the demon had already lost. All the giant weapons were destroyed, and the demon was just shouting like a crazy person.
The young Skull Archmage ignored him and destroyed other places. The clones were doing the same thing in other areas.
“Not you again, you damn prince!”
Esadojiqua roared as the back lines of his army disappeared quickly. He knew it was the young Skull Archmage because of the magic. They had fought before.
“I should have corrupted you,” Esadojiqua thought. “Surround the prince, everyone! Forget the others. If you let the prince escape, I will eat you all!”
The demon looked like a minotaur. Fire burned in his eyes as he gave the order.
The young Skull Archmage called back all the clones. He needed to save his power to fight Esadojiqua and his followers.
“You wicked demons!”
The young Skull Archmage was surprised by the sound from behind.
His students from the future had come to the battlefield, even though he told them to stay in the air.
“Student Ihan! Stay back! Do you hear me? Absolutely stay back! It’s too dangerous!”
“Professor! Look! Up ahead! They’re coming!” Ihan said, pointing forward.
Now was not the time for Professor Garcia to worry about her students.
Professor Voladi made a dark blade appear and slashed at the demons.
“Outsiders can’t get close to this place…”
Professor Garcia closed her eyes and began to chant. She thought it was easier to focus if she closed her eyes.
Professor Voladi attacked.
Professor Garcia defended.
And Ihan…
“Professor! Take my mana!”
“Student Ihan, don’t speak so loudly!”
“???”
Ihan was confused by Professor Garcia’s words.
“The only people who can hear us are demons, right?”
“…Still!”
She was too proud to admit she was taking her student’s mana, even in front of the demons.
Professor Voladi sliced demons for a while, then came back to get more mana from her student. Then, she went out again to slice more demons.
Ihan’s group had attack, defense, and recovery. They worked well together and quickly made a place for themselves on the battlefield. The young Skull Archmage was relieved to see them.
“Why did you come? I told you to wait.”
“How could we watch while the demons attacked? I may not be strong, but the two professors are strong enough to help.”
“S, Student Ihan. I’m not really that confident…” Professor Garcia said. She was nervous because her student thought she was better than she was.
She had trusted Professor Beggrak when she came down here, but she wasn’t sure about her own fighting skills.
Bzzzt!
A demon tried to break through the barrier Professor Garcia made, but it turned to dust.
The young Skull Archmage nodded. They were good enough to be on the battlefield.
“Thank you for worrying about me,” he said.
“Please, don’t say things like that,” Ihan said. He was disgusted, and Professor Garcia nodded slightly.
They had made a plan before coming down, but it was hard to hear the young Skull Archmage being so grateful.
“…No! Those bastards?!”
Ihan noticed something and was horrified. The city’s magic nobles and their followers were running away.
“Even in Einrogard, they fight together when demons appear!”
Ihan was angry at their cowardice.
“Gonadal-tes-sama! Just give the order! Professor Beggrak will wipe them out!”
Professor Voladi didn’t argue. The young Skull Archmage was his teacher, and he had to chase after the enemies who betrayed him.
But the young Skull Archmage shook his head.
“Leave them alone. It’s better if they don’t get in the way.”
He hated the city’s magic nobles, but there were also many of their followers here. He didn’t want to abandon them for revenge.
“Prince, are you going to sacrifice yourself to save those people?”
Esadojiqua had many reasons to hate the prince. He changed his mind. If the fleeing wizards were part of his plan, he couldn’t let them go. It was a matter of pride.
“Chase them! Chase them and kill everyone you see!”
The young Skull Archmage’s face changed slightly.
He wasn’t worried about the magic nobles. They were out of danger and could take care of themselves.
He was worried about the people near the city gates.
If the magic nobles changed their minds and tried to stop near the gates, it would be fine. But they were selfish and would go straight through the gates to the safest place in the city.
Then, people would die near the gates.
Because the demons would arrive right after the magic nobles…
The young Skull Archmage reacted quickly. He made a clone and sent it to the gate to break through the obstacles.
“The gate!”
Ihan knew what the young Skull Archmage was doing. He was using lapis lazuli and mermaid tears to work on the gate.
And he was making a clone to do it!
“Gonadal-tes-sama, you must focus!”
Ihan shouted and blocked the demons with the professors. The demons wailed and attacked Ihan. They knew he was where Professor Garcia and Professor Voladi got their mana.
“How dare you be careless in front of me, Esadojiqua,” the demon said. “Prince, today is your last day!”
Esadojiqua knew the young Skull Archmage was pushing himself too hard. He attacked without giving him time to rest. The blood-red axe made a wailing sound as it absorbed the magic.
“Gonadal-tes-sama! Stop the clone and work on it later!”
But the young Skull Archmage shook his head.
“Disciple,” he said.
“Yes?”
“The Imprint magic is not that hard.”
“What…!”
It was a strange thing to say when a Great Demon was attacking. Ihan was worried.
“Just as you came here because you cared about me, care about other people. Then you will understand.”
The young Skull Archmage fought Esadojiqua. He stumbled because the clone was working on the gate, but he kept going. Blood flowed from his eyes and nose, but he used magic.
“Prince, you are too relaxed!”
Esadojiqua growled. Ihan decided to help.
“I have to help with mana, even if it’s just a little!”
He had promised Professor Garcia he wouldn’t go outside, but this was different. Professor Garcia would understand.
But then, the space around them changed. Professor Garcia was surprised.
“The Scepter!”
The Scepter was sending Ihan and his group back. Professor Garcia was worried. What would happen to the young Skull Archmage if they left?
But the young Skull Archmage smiled.
“Go back, my disciples. This is not your time.”
“But…!”
“We will meet again. That is enough. Go!”
A vortex of space swept around them. The demons scattered, and Ihan and his group entered the dimension.
The last thing Ihan saw was the young Skull Archmage protecting the gate while blocking Esadojiqua’s attack.
Pop!
Ihan was back in Einrogard and stumbled. It wasn’t just the artifact.
“I was impressed.”
He was impressed by the young Skull Archmage’s attitude, not his magic or wealth.
In a terrible time, he was doing good things even though everyone else was trying to hurt him.
Ihan had seen the past and wanted to learn the Imprint magic.
Ihan decided to be more generous and kind.
“Even if I can’t be as good as the young headmaster, I should be a little better…”
“How dare you put other hamsters in my cage?!”
The hamster was angry.
“If you ever do that again!”
“It’s gone now!” Ihan said. “The young headmaster is risking his life for people, and you’re complaining about a hamster friend? Be ashamed!”
The hamster closed its mouth and looked sad.
