Squeak, squeak.
Sky Lounge.
A middle-aged man sat by the window overlooking Seoul, meticulously cutting his steak.
It was lunchtime in the rather large, upscale restaurant, but it was surprisingly empty.
“Tough.”
At his word, a large man standing behind him responded.
“I will replace the chef.”
“No, everything gets tough when it gets old. I’m the problem, not the chef.”
“Yes, sir.”
At the man’s reply, the middle-aged man stopped cutting and looked up at him.
“Chief Ma, you’re so straightforward. No unnecessary flattery. That’s why I sometimes feel bad.”
“I apologize.”
The middle-aged man turned his head back to his plate, picked up a piece of meat with his fork, ate it, and then spoke.
“It didn’t go well.”
“No, sir. They were defeated by one person. The hornet in the intensive care unit did not survive the night and died.”
“One person… Four hornets were defeated by one person…”
“I will investigate.”
The middle-aged man waved his hand holding the fork dismissively.
“No, this is enough. Let’s see how Daesung moves.”
“Yes, Chairman.”

The Ahn family residence.
Bang!
“I told you to stop playing cops!”
Ahn Seo-eun was summoned to the main house as soon as she was discharged from the hospital, and she was met with a harsh scolding the moment she arrived.
Seo-eun didn’t shrink back; instead, a fierce look appeared in her clear eyes.
“Just one question.”
Chairman Ahn looked at Seo-eun with a stiff face, remaining silent.
“You said the same thing before and assigned indirect bodyguards. Did you know this would happen?”
“Isn’t it obvious? This country has its rules! If you join hands with that reckless police officer and try to break the rules, do you think those who made them will stand still?”
Seo-eun approached, sat on the sofa, looked directly at Chairman Ahn, and continued.
“Aside from that, Chief Kim is in a coma, and Chief Kang is also seriously injured. Specifically, did you know that I would be targeted by the trash who made the rules?!”
At Seo-eun’s words, Chairman Ahn pointed an accusing finger at her.
“How dare you raise your voice in front of me! Don’t try to go against the rules. Not only you, but Daesung will get hurt. This is my last warning.”
At Chairman Ahn’s warning, Seo-eun jumped up from her seat and shouted.
“I!”
She trembled, looking straight at Chairman Ahn, and continued with unwavering resolve.
“I won’t stop. Until the end…”
She turned around and left.

Daesung Hospital hallway. Haru stood sharply watching the front, determination etched on her face. She opened her mouth, her voice firm.
“Are you ready?”
At her question, the girl next to her chuckled.
“Can you even do it with that arm?”
She raised her uncasted arm and declared confidently.
“One arm is enough.”
“You’re full of confidence. Shall we start then? Ready… Go!!”
Wadadadada-!
Two wheelchairs sped through the hospital hallway. The two were evenly matched at the start, but soon Haru overtook her opponent with tremendous speed.
“Kyaa!”
“What are you doing!”
The nurses, who belatedly discovered the dangerous scene, were horrified and amazed.
As they passed the central lobby with the elevator, someone suddenly popped out in front of them. It was a situation where a collision was unavoidable, no matter how hard they braked.
Crash!
The two wheelchairs stopped as if by magic. The person who stopped both wheelchairs with his bare hands was Haesu.
As her eyes met Haesu’s, Haru’s imposing gaze softened, becoming meek and shriveled.
“Should I move you to a private room?”
“No. I’m sorry.”
Haesu looked at the girl next to her, who had her eyes tightly closed. She was a seventeen-year-old girl diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer.
She had only been treated as a terminally ill patient until now, but she became noticeably brighter when Haru treated her like a friend without hesitation.
Haesu turned and pushed their wheelchairs, saying sternly.
“This is a nuisance to the people in the ward. Stay still in your room.”
When they arrived at the room, Haru pouted and grumbled softly.
“I’m bored.”
At Haru’s words, Haesu took something out of his pocket and gave it to her. It was a new cell phone. Haru’s cell phone was broken when it rolled around in the van before.
Haru’s eyes widened when she saw the cell phone.
“Galaxy Z Flip 3!”
She didn’t even know how to use a cell phone before, but now she could tell exactly what model it was just by looking at it. Haesu, who had just bought the latest model, didn’t even know what model it was.
“And it’s 256GB!”
She couldn’t hide her excitement as she examined the cell phone. Only after a few minutes did she bow her head deeply to Haesu.
“Thank you! I’m glad it was during the event period.”
“Event?”
“It’s nothing. Aren’t you busy?”
“Yeah, I’m busy. I’m leaving.”
“Goodbye.”

As the end of summer approached, the heat became more intense.
The Violent Crimes Unit members were also moving their desks closer to the air conditioner to escape the oppressive heat.
At that moment, the team leader raised his hand, a wide grin on his face.
“That’s it!”
“What’s up?”
“Joint workshop for the Violent Crimes Unit!”
At the team leader’s words, the team members flocked around him. Haesu reluctantly approached and checked the monitor.
The Chungnam Violent Crimes Unit was listed on the workshop list, an honor only a few teams from across the country could achieve.
“Wow! I’m going to a Violent Crimes Unit workshop in my life.”
“How great is that? It’s a week long, and there’s a swimming pool in the hotel. Pretty… eupeup.”
The team leader blurted out words as his brain short-circuited, then quickly clamped his hand over his mouth, realizing what he almost said.
After the workshop was announced, the Violent Crimes Unit members couldn’t contain their excitement and worked with smiles on their faces.
Finally, the day of the workshop arrived. The Violent Crimes Unit decided to gather at the police station and travel together in one car.
Haesu arrived first, and Oh Geng arrived second. Like Haesu, Oh Geng didn’t want to go inside the Violent Crimes Unit headquarters, so he waited in the gazebo next to the smoking room, even though it was hot.
“What’s with the clothes?”
Oh Geng was wearing a fluorescent short-sleeved shirt, shorts, and slippers.
“Why? It’s good to set the mood from now on. What about you? Are you going to a funeral?”
Oh Geng scanned Haesu’s outfit up and down and clicked his tongue in disapproval.
Haesu was neatly dressed in a black suit and a white shirt.
They were going to the same place, but their outfits couldn’t have been more different.
“I’m…”
At that moment, the youngest member’s car pulled in. He got out of the car, saw Haesu and Oh Geng, and ran over in a hurry.
“I’m sorry for being late!”
He was wearing a black suit with a black shirt underneath, looking every bit like a shoulder gangster [a low-level member of a criminal organization].
Haesu clicked his tongue as he looked at him.
“What’s with the outfit? Are you a gangster?”
“I’m sorry! Should I change?”
“It’s okay.”
“Are you in a position to talk? Wow, gangster brothers, gangster brothers, no one will come near you because they’re scared, right?”
While Oh Geng was chuckling as he looked back and forth between the two, the team leader’s voice boomed from behind.
“Guys! Hyung [older brother or respected male figure] is here!!”
It was quite a spectacle. As expected of the team leader.
He was wearing a large-brimmed hat, a Hawaiian shirt, fluorescent swimming trunks, and sunglasses.
At that moment, kindergarten children who were visiting the police station were entering.
Haesu turned his body and fiddled with the leaves near the gazebo, trying to hide his embarrassment.
Oh Geng started walking towards his car, wanting to distance himself from the scene.
The youngest member, unsure of what to do, put his legs up on the gazebo and started doing push-ups.
“What, what are you guys? Where are you going? Are you ashamed of me?”
At their appearance, the children pointed with their fingers and exclaimed.
“Teacher, there’s a strange man at the police station.”
“Shh, shh, don’t point with your fingers. Strange people are usually caught at the police station.”
Haesu and the youngest member chuckled as they overheard the conversation between the teacher and the children.
At that sight, the team leader rummaged through his pockets, took out his police ID card, and shouted.
“No~ I’m not a strange person, I’m the head of the Violent Crimes Unit! Kids! Violent Crimes Unit members! Oh Geng, Muscle Monster! Assemble!!”
“Teacher, I’m scared!”
“Don’t make eye contact, come here, let’s go quickly, quickly.”
“No, that’s not it, kids, the workshop that I’m going to today…”
Oh Geng, who couldn’t stand it any longer, got out of the car again and dragged the team leader away.
After a commotion, they gathered in one place again. They decided to travel in personal vehicles instead of police station vehicles.
“Wow, is this Haesu’s car?”
“Yes, I bought it recently.”
“Wow, it’s so shiny!”
“It’s cool, sunbaenim [senior colleague]!”
Haesu had bought a car that was famous for being the sturdiest among Korean cars. It was a 7-seater, so there was plenty of space inside.
The Violent Crimes Unit members got into the car and wiggled their butts, excited.
“The car is great~”
“Oh, the new car smell, I’m excited, I’m excited.”
“I’ll work hard to save my salary and buy this car too!”
“Hey, save your wedding money, what car are you talking about, you already have a car.”
They were comfortably riding in a good car to a place where they would rest for a week. For that reason alone, the Violent Crimes Unit members burst into laughter at small things and spoke in loud voices.
*
The Violent Crimes Unit arrived at a hotel near Seoul after an hour and a half.
The four detectives entrusted their cars to valet parking and looked up at the hotel with their mouths open, impressed.
“Kihya [exclamation of awe], it’s tall.”
“It’s shiny from the entrance, it’s all covered in gold.”
“Hoo-hoo! This hotel has a fitness center on the top floor! Sunbaenim!”
“Really? I should go there first.”
“That’s right!”
“Oh, you health freaks.”
The hotel was U-shaped, and there was an indoor swimming pool in the center. There was an artificial waterfall, so the waves were constantly surging.
The team members checked in and headed to their accommodations first. The four of them had three rooms, a kitchen, and a bar between the living room, and the southern glass view was breathtakingly open.
As soon as he entered the accommodation, Oh Geng threw his luggage on the sofa and expressed his disbelief at the luxurious surroundings.
“No way! There’s nothing I don’t like! Huh! Why is it so good!”
“Eugh, Oh Geng, let’s make a promise, let’s not talk about life here to your wife.”
“Of course, I won’t even take pictures, just in case she sees them.”
“Okay, let’s just happily imprint it on our brains.”
“Hyung, listen to the lecture hard later and take notes. Let’s say you only came to study.”
“That’s a good idea?”
Oh Geng and the team leader exchanged knowing glances and chuckled. In the meantime, Haesu and the youngest member unpacked their luggage and headed to the fitness center in the sky lounge.
It was quiet because it was late afternoon.
“Wow…”
“The accommodation was just a taste.”
“That’s what I’m saying. I want to live here.”
Haesu silently patted the youngest member’s shoulder and comforted him, understanding his awe.
Just as the two of them were about to start using the exercise equipment, they received a call from the team leader.
-How long are you going to be there? We’re gathering in the lobby to get to know each other, so wash up and come down!
“Yes, I’ll be right down.”
Even the shower room had a window that only showed the outside, so they admired it, washed up in record time (2 minutes), and went down to the first floor.
People who looked like detectives were walking around, even though they were wearing plain clothes.
Haesu and the youngest member were the same, so they glanced at each other and exchanged subtle greetings with their eyes when they made eye contact.
Inside, they found two detectives in conspicuous clothes by the swimming pool in the center of the hotel. Haesu and the youngest member approached them.
But there was a familiar middle-aged man who they didn’t expect to meet here.
“Commissioner?”
The grateful Chungnam Police Commissioner, who had created the Violent Crimes Unit and bought Haesu ribs twice, was there in comfortable clothes. He was delighted to see Haesu.
“Oh, yes, Detective Shin, it’s good timing, I stopped by because I had someone to meet, there’s my daughter Joa…”
As the Commissioner turned his body and pointed at someone, a high-pitched, sharp cry was heard.
“Die, you bastard!!”
A large man, probably a detective, was hit in the chest by a woman’s straight turning kick and fell into the water.
Thud- Splash!!
The woman boldly jumped into the water after the floundering man, grabbed his hair, shoved him into the water, and shouted.
“Die, die, die!!”
“Jo, Team Leader Jo!”
“Team Leader, please calm down!”
At the mad sight, the other team members hurriedly jumped into the swimming pool to stop her.
It was a complete mess.
“Commissioner, what did you say?”
“No, it’s nothing. Go your way.”
