Elsewhere in Dmitry, the training grounds were alive with activity.
Training was happening in Dmitry’s training grounds. It was intense.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
The person training was Chris.
Chris watched his opponent closely. His eyes were bright with focus. Then, he attacked with lightning speed.
Whoosh!
The attack missed.
Chris attacked very fast. It was hard to see his moves. But Roman blocked them easily. His movements were simple.
Yet Chris showed no sign of panic.
Chris seemed ready for this. He kept attacking. He moved to stop Roman from stepping back.
This attack was forceful.
The soldiers watching held their breath. Chris and Roman moved quickly, swords clashing. Then, Chris saw a chance to attack.
“Now!”
But then, suddenly, Roman struck.
Chris thought his timing was perfect.
Roman’s one counterattack stopped Chris completely. Chris lost his balance and fell to the ground.
“Chris, your plan was good. You guessed what Roman would do and you pushed him into a corner. But the problem was when you tried to hit him hard at the end. When you attack with all your strength, there are always small openings. You can’t fix this with normal training. If your enemy is good, they will see that opening. You need something special to stop them before your final attack.”
“…I will keep that in mind.”
Chris didn’t sound angry. He knew this would probably happen.
Roman stayed strong. No matter how Chris attacked, Roman didn’t move. And when Roman saw a chance, he attacked quickly and strongly.
Losing was how they learned.
Roman showed Chris directly how a stronger fighter can counterattack. Chris rolled on the ground after falling, but he wasn’t ashamed.
The other soldiers were the same.
Chris and the other soldiers had done great things in the war and in the fighting competition. People praised them a lot. But when they were with Roman, they still felt like beginners.
Roman was incredibly strong. He felt like someone from another world. He was overwhelming.
The soldiers who followed Roman knew they couldn’t be lazy or think they were already good enough.
“Next.”
The training fights continued, one after another.
After Chris, Kevin, McBurney, Henderson, and others took their turn.
Roman defeated them all easily.
Training with Roman was something they did every day. And they never managed to hit him even once.
But they kept training hard. They were determined.
They knew that they grew stronger each time they fought Roman, and even in defeat, they tried to learn from him.
Dmitry’s training grounds were filled with the sounds of men sweating and breathing heavily.
Finally, the long training finished. Hans, who was waiting nearby, came closer.
“Young Master, you have a guest.”
“Show them in.”
He already knew who was coming.
Roman looked up. He saw Marquis Valentino waiting. Valentino looked very excited.
Marquis Valentino had waited for two hours. It was a long wait, but he wasn’t bored at all.
“So, this is how Roman Dmitry trains people.”
Chris and the other soldiers… they were all amazing.
They had shown how good they were in the recent fighting competition. Each of them was good enough to work for any important family.
Especially Chris. His sword skills were amazing. Most people couldn’t even see his moves. Valentino thought Chris alone could be the strongest fighter in the northeast.
And yet.
He was no match for Roman.
These fighters were very impressive on their own. But when they fought Roman, they became weak, like flames going out.
“People in Cairo are talking about Roman Dmitry a lot these days. They’re wondering what title he will get after beating the number two fighter from Hector. Some people say he’s too young. They think he just got lucky when he beat Butler. But I’ve seen Roman myself. He’s amazing. The way he beat even strong fighters like Chris so easily… He’s even stronger than people think.”
His heart beat fast.
If Roman was just a very good fighter, Marquis Valentino wouldn’t be this excited.
“The greatest talent in the Cairo Kingdom. I possess a sword made by him.”
The sword was very important to him. Meeting Roman was as exciting as meeting a very beautiful woman. He made sure his clothes were neat before going to the reception room.
He forgot about being Marquis Valentino. He just wanted Roman to like him as a person.
“I am Roman Dmitry.”
In the reception room, Roman offered his hand first.
Right then, his heart beat very fast.
He thought about Roman’s hands making the amazing sword ‘Blaze’. Marquis Valentino quickly wiped his sweaty hands on his pants before shaking Roman’s hand.
“I am Marquis Valentino.”
“Please, have a seat.”
“Thank you.”
The air felt different. Even though they just met, Marquis Valentino looked at Roman with such intense eyes, it felt like the room was getting warmer.
Marquis Valentino couldn’t hide how he felt. This was his first time meeting Roman Dmitry. But just knowing one thing about Roman made him like him a lot.
He said.
“Roman, I came to see you because of Blaze, the sword. I know how amazing Blaze is. I was surprised to see such a treasure being sold. I had to buy it, no matter the price. To be honest, I’ve been looking everywhere for the person who made Blaze. And today, I finally came to Dmitry. This is where my search ends.”
His voice was slightly excited.
People said Marquis Valentino was a very passionate collector. He loved collecting things more than anything.
His excitement was real. That’s why he wasn’t acting like a powerful Marquis in front of Roman.
“Roman, are you really the one who created Blaze?”
He asked directly. His eyes were filled with longing.
This was funny. He never thought that wanting to know how much the sword was worth would lead him here.
‘People call Marquis Valentino the greedy collector.’
The auction for Blaze was done secretly.
He didn’t hide his name to be secret. He did it so his fame wouldn’t change how much people bid for the sword.
Therefore.
“That’s right.”
There was no reason to hide it.
When Roman said it was true, Marquis Valentino couldn’t hide his happiness. He was overjoyed.
Everyone in the Cairo Kingdom knew Marquis Valentino.
Besides being called ‘the greedy collector,’ he was an important person in Cairo. People always talked about him when they talked about who was powerful in Cairo.
People in Cairo talked about four powerful groups. These groups were always trying to get more power. But there was one person who was different, someone even stronger than them all when he chose to stay neutral.
These four groups – the Royalists, the Aristocrats, the Chronos Empire faction, and the Valhalla Empire faction – were like big families or teams fighting for control of Cairo.
They divided the power in Cairo, always watching each other, hoping to become the most powerful.
Because of all this, Marquis Valentino was very important to the four groups. He was attractive to them because he controlled Cairo’s money.
He had so much money that he could change who had the most power. But even though the four groups had been trying to get him on their side for years, he stayed neutral.
He said, “I am not interested in power. Whoever becomes the leader, I just want Valentino to stay as it is.” This was a smart decision.
If he chose to support just one group, everything he did would become part of their fight against the others.
So, he stayed neutral.
He kept to himself and focused on his own interests, no matter how Cairo was being run, he made money.
He was a key person in Cairo.
Not just anyone.
This remarkable man acted like a young fan when Roman told him something.
Valentino’s eyes widened. “Really? You are Roman Dimitri? *The* Roman Dimitri who made Blaze?” He seemed truly amazed. “It’s an honor to meet you! I have wanted to meet you for so long. When I first saw Blaze at the auction… it was like lightning struck me! How did you create something so incredible? Is it because Dimitri is famous for blacksmiths? Is your father a blacksmith too?”
He kept asking questions.
He was a true fan.
He didn’t have any bad intentions.
He really wanted to meet Roman and asked him many questions. Then, he noticed the sword Roman had.
“If it’s okay, could I take a look at that sword?”
He wanted to see the sword.
This would not be allowed on a battlefield.
However.
Roman handed over the sword.
He didn’t fully trust this man he had just met. But he was curious. He wanted to see what Valentino would do with the sword. So, Roman handed it over.
Valentino took a deep breath.
He carefully touched the sword, looking at it closely, as if it were a great treasure.
‘…What is this?’
He was amazed.
Blaze and Salamander were amazing swords.
Just that made him respect Roman. But Darkness was something else entirely.
The sword felt heavy, like it was made of shadows. It was so dark, it seemed to drink in the light around it.
Marquis Valentino had seen many great swords. He knew how special Darkness was right away. His eyes trembled with astonishment.
Roman Dimitri was a great craftsman.
And he kept getting better, even after making amazing swords.
First, there was Salamander.
Then, Blaze, the fiery sword.
And now, Darkness.
‘He is showing remarkable growth with each new sword he creates. If Roman Dimitri is called the greatest genius in the history of swordsmanship, it is no different in the world of blacksmiths. How much more amazing will the swords this monster creates in the future be? And if Roman Dimitri gains fame as a craftsman, the swords he creates will be recognized for their immense value.’
He was so amazed that he almost laughed.
Blaze.
People thought he had spent too much on just one sword.
That might be true for most people, but after seeing Darkness, Marquis Valentino could see the future.
Roman Dimitri.
He would be known as the best swordsman and the best craftsman.
He put the sword down.
Marquis Valentino looked at Roman seriously.
“I don’t think you would ever sell this sword. So, I have a special offer for you, Roman. Can I tell you about it?”
A special offer.
It had two parts.
“First, if you ever decide to sell a sword, please let me have a chance to buy it.”
It was something he wanted personally.
If Roman was going to sell a sword to someone else, like he did with Blaze, Marquis Valentino wanted to be the one to buy it.
“Second, if you make a new sword, please let me know. Or, if possible, I would like to see what it looks like. It doesn’t matter where or when. Even if it’s far away in Dimitri, or in a place where people aren’t allowed to go. If you let me, Roman, I will find a way to see your amazing swords.”
His eyes showed how much he wanted this.
Roman didn’t answer.
Marquis Valentino.
The rich man from Cairo was very eager.
Instead of asking questions to understand what he was thinking, Roman waited for him to say everything he wanted to say.
“If you promise those two things, the Valentino family will support Dimitri from now on.”
That was unexpected.
He wasn’t just acting like a collector. He was saying that he would stop being neutral.
It was interesting.
Roman drank his tea and looked at the other man.
“Do you know what that means?”
“Of course, I know. The Valentino family has been neutral for a long time. That’s why we haven’t had any problems running our business, and people call us the richest family in Cairo.”
“So, why are you thinking of supporting Dimitri? I don’t think it’s just because you like to collect things. The Valentino family would be giving up a lot just to satisfy your desires.”
A neutral group.
Even if they weren’t one of the four main groups, the people in power in Cairo would still be worried.
Marquis Valentino said,
“I’ll be honest with you. The four groups have been putting a lot of pressure on me lately. The power struggles in Cairo are getting worse, and Valentino can’t stay neutral forever. So, I’ve been thinking a lot about which group to support. Should it be the Aristocrats, the Chronos Empire faction, or the Valhalla Empire faction? Then, I heard that Roman Dimitri had defeated the lords of the north and created the ‘Dimitri Alliance.’”
The offer he just made.
It wasn’t something he decided suddenly.
Before meeting Roman, Marquis Valentino had carefully thought about the good and bad things that could happen.
“People call me a greedy collector. I pay a fair price for valuable things, but it’s not just about objects. I also enjoy investing in people. When someone who is underrated gets better and achieves something, it makes me feel great, more than I could ever feel from collecting things.”
Roman Dimitri.
He did things differently than others.
People only cared about the famous enemies he had defeated.
But Marquis Valentino realized that Roman had shown unusual leadership.
And.
The Dimitri Alliance.
Dimitri, who had been neutral like him, was starting to change.
“I wouldn’t follow any of the four groups in Cairo. But Roman is different. I saw how quickly he took control of the disorganized northeastern region, and I decided that the Dimitri family, led by Roman, was worth investing in. Besides, I know he’s the craftsman who made Blaze, so why wouldn’t I like Roman?”
“Dimitri already has a lot of money. Why would you want the Valentino family as an ally, even if the government is watching you?”
It was what Marquis Valentino had expected.
The other man wasn’t just following what everyone else was doing. He was brave enough to ask that question.
It was amazing.
The richest man in Cairo.
They didn’t necessarily need him.
“I know how much money Dimitri has. But.”
The more, the better.
Marquis Valentino smiled.
“Isn’t it better to have more money? I don’t want much. If I can have a relationship with Roman in the future, and if Valentino can stay strong in Cairo, I will support Dimitri in any way I can.”
The instinct of a collector.
The feeling that had made Marquis Valentino successful made him really want Roman Dimitri.
