Crowds gathered, filling the streets. People were eager to see Roman Dmitry and to know that he was safe. The signs of the recent war were still visible everywhere, with broken stones littering the roads and some buildings still damaged.
Like everyone else in Dmitry, they had heard the whispers. Rumors had spread that even as Dmitry fought bravely against the Cronos Empire, Roman Dmitry himself faced even greater dangers far away.
News had been slow to arrive, and worry had grown with each passing day. Now, they just wanted to see him return, safe and sound.
And then, finally, he was there. Roman Dmitry appeared.
Roman Dmitry and his soldiers looked weary. Their clothes were dusty and torn, their faces were tired, but their eyes shone with the light of victory.
The crowd roared with excitement.
Even though they looked tired and worn, the people clearly understood the great victory they had won.
“You are the pride of Dmitry!”
“Thank you for your hard work!”
“Congratulations on being ranked in the continent!”
Barbosa had cut off the head of the man called the Twelve Swords of the Continent.
Not only that, but the enemies who died by Roman Dmitry’s hand on the way back to Dmitry were also well-known and powerful.
The people of Dmitry could not help but feel proud.
Throughout the history of the continent, there had never been a case where someone not part of the Empire entered the top rankings, but Roman Dmitry defeated the strongest at the very top.
This victory was very important. It meant that even a small, new country like Dmitry could become powerful because of Roman Dmitry.
The people cheered for their triumphant hero.
Roman Dmitry acknowledged their cheers and went straight to his parents.
“I’m back.”
“Roman! Are you hurt anywhere?”
His mother, Rihanna Dmitry, rushed to him as soon as she saw him, her eyes wide with worry.
She had been very anxious because of the rumors about her son.
Rihanna Dmitry, who was usually known for being gentle and dignified, couldn’t hide her worry when it came to her son’s affairs.
They had a brief reunion as parents and children.
Rihanna Dmitry carefully examined his body and, only after confirming that he was unharmed, took a step back with a relieved expression.
Only then did Duke Dmitry ask.
“You must know what happened in Dmitry, son. How do you think we should handle this matter?”
The attack from the Cronos Empire could not be ignored.
The Cronos Empire attacked Dmitry in violation of continental law, and if they didn’t make an issue of it, it could set a bad example.
After defeating the Cronos Empire, Dmitry had to recover from the pain of war.
They had won a complete victory in the war, but that didn’t mean no one had died.
For the past few days, Dmitry had been shaken.
There was a severe conflict of opinion between the group that wanted to retaliate and the group that wondered how to deal with the Empire.
Eventually.
Duke Dmitry passed on the choice.
Looking at Roman Dmitry, he said with a determined expression.
“Dmitry has obtained the title of Principality, and the affairs of this country, large and small, are now under your control. It is not important that I am called the owner of this country, Roman. Please keep this in mind. Whatever choice you make, I, Romero Dmitry, and the Principality of Dmitry will follow your judgment.”
The extreme conflict of opinion was a problem that could be resolved with Roman Dmitry’s opinion.
Whatever choice you make.
No one will question it.
In Dmitry, Roman Dmitry was such an important figure.
“I understand.”
With that conversation over.
Roman Dmitry stepped down from his seat.
He walked down the hallway.
While moving, Lucas followed and explained the situation.
“Dmitry suffered considerable damage from this war. Despite making thorough preparations, the opponent mobilized more troops than expected, and in particular, it is estimated that the Cronos Empire moved troops without using the ‘Warp Gate’. We will investigate this in detail and report back.”
He glanced at Roman Dmitry.
He could not predict how he would accept the words that would begin now.
” …and Kevin and Henderson are in very bad condition. In the process of guarding Duke Dmitry’s residence, they suffered terrible wounds from a powerful enemy, and both are now wandering between life and death. Henderson’s condition is especially serious. His breathing stopped briefly last night, but fortunately, thanks to the immediate response of the healer, he was able to overcome the dangerous moment.”
It was the light and shadow of war.
The fact that Dmitry defeated Cronos was a huge achievement, but Lucas could not help but feel uncomfortable because of those who were injured in the war.
Moreover, in the case of Henderson, he was a classmate who had applied for private soldier recruitment together.
He didn’t have much time to hang out with others while in charge of the information guild, but Henderson had such an affable personality that he formed a fairly strong bond with Lucas.
That him.
Collapsed.
The events of that day, which he heard from people, made Lucas’s face flush red just by listening to them.
“You mean he’s not dead yet.”
“Yes.”
Now.
He was heading to where the injured were.
From the moment Roman Dmitry first arrived in Dmitry, he showed a calm expression that was impossible to know what he was thinking.
Even in the cheers of the people.
Even in the reunion with his parents.
He was indifferent.
And that, for Lucas, caused a sense of unknown fear.
Kevin and Henderson.
He looked down at the two men who had lost consciousness in the sickroom.
Even though the bandages were changed several times, the bandages around their wounds showed a reddish color.
The healer said.
“I think today will be the critical moment. We are somehow holding on to their lives with the help of top-level potions and priests, but their condition is not very good. Kevin has recovered a lot from his injuries, but we don’t know why he can’t come to his senses, and Henderson suffered such severe injuries that all of his ribs were broken, making it difficult to recover even with top-level potions. Moreover, a dark energy has penetrated his body, hindering his recovery.”
Those words meant death.
He tried to put it in a hopeful way, but the healer revealed that he had exceeded his treatment area.
‘In the end, did it come to this?’
Suddenly.
A painful memory came to mind.
The four beings who followed Chunma Baek Jung-hyuk did not all survive to the end and enjoy wealth and glory.
Mad Demon.
He was dead.
Gwangma died. He fought bravely against the Nine Great Sects. Baek Jung-hyuk was not there, so Gwangma led the battle. Even though it was a trap, Gwangma defeated many enemies and won the war.
He paid the ultimate price. Weapons stuck out from his body where he was hurt. Winning the war for Murim was not always happy.
Sadness always comes with happiness. Baek Jung-hyuk, Cheonma, trusted Gwangma more than anyone. Now, Gwangma was dead because of that trust. It was a terrible loss.
It was a bleak reality.
As Roman Dmitry ruled more land, his people faced more danger. The people he trusted most were in the most danger, because he trusted them.
Roman Dmitry remembered that day. He was filled with fury.
He knew war meant death. But this death was different. This was Gwangma. That’s why Roman Dmitry held a memorial service for him.
He held the memorial service right in the heart of the Nine Great Sects’ territory. The war had left the land covered in bodies and blood. After seeing this, the Murim armies lost hope and began to surrender, one by one, waving white flags.
Even if he could go back in time, Roman Dmitry would not change his mind.
He trusted Kevin and Henderson. They were the best people to guard his home while he was away. This was the risk of trusting them.
Kevin and Henderson had been loyal. They had risked their lives to do what he asked.
“I will live as Cheonma in this life too,” Roman Dmitry thought. “My life has always been hard. Even if things change, I can’t become someone else. People will die following me. It’s the way it is. The higher I want to go, the more danger there will be. I will not let anyone think they are better than me.”
He had expected this sacrifice.
But Roman Dmitry knew he couldn’t do everything alone in the world he wanted to build. This time, it wasn’t a simple choice. He had to face enemies in Valhalla, but also trust his friends in Dmitry.
It was a choice for his kingdom, Dmitry. Roman Dmitry needed to show that Dmitry could survive and be strong, even with its own power.
Everything had gone as planned in Valhalla. He had defeated Chronos. But when Roman Dmitry returned to Dmitry, his feelings exploded.
He was angry. This anger was different from before. In his past life, he was also angry when Gwangma died. But now, his anger was much stronger.
In this life, things were different. He had made friends and built connections with people. In his past life, he only wanted power. But now, he cared more about the people close to him.
Because of this, he couldn’t let them die. He knew they had survived until he came back because they wanted to live.
“I will heal Kevin and Henderson myself,” Roman Dmitry said firmly. “Prepare a place for me to treat them, now!”
The only thing that mattered now was saving them.
He quickly moved to another room. Gently, Roman Dmitry laid Kevin and Henderson on the floor. He sat down beside them, crossing his legs, and placed his hands carefully near their chests, over their hearts.
“‘I will start with their life force,'” Roman Dmitry thought. *Whoosh.* Magic energy flowed from him. This energy moved into Kevin and Henderson’s bodies, gently touching their hearts and sinking into their skin.
He listened closely. One… two… three. Hearts were beating. At first, their hearts and his own beat unevenly, jumping and skipping. But then, slowly, as if they were meant to beat together, all three hearts found a single rhythm.
Then, he started to send out his magic with more power. As soon as Roman Dmitry’s magic touched their wounds, terrible pain shot through him. It was like feeling their pain as his own.
“‘I have to use my own life energy to bring their life force back,'” he thought. This healing was very risky.
In his past life, he knew of someone called the Divine Healer. This person was famous for saving people who were almost dead. But the Healer died young, in his twenties. Then, people found out the secret: he didn’t have special healing powers. He saved people by giving them his own life energy.
Roman Dmitry was using that same method. This ‘life energy’ was the power you were born with. If you used too much of it, you would die.
He was giving a part of his own life energy to Kevin and Henderson. Roman Dmitry’s life energy was stronger now, because he had become so powerful. So, he could give some of it to save his friends.
Kevin and Henderson were hurt like this because they were following his orders. They knew they might die, but they were willing to risk their lives for him.
Just as they had risked their lives for him, Roman Dmitry was now risking his own life force for them.
As his life energy flowed into them, Kevin and Henderson’s bodies started to heal themselves. It was like their own life force was waking up again.
It was hard work. Roman Dmitry’s face became white, and sweat poured down his body as time went on. His clothes were wet, and he looked exhausted.
Even with his life energy, he might not be able to save them right away. He was doing everything he could. If they still died, even after all this, then it was fate.
But Roman Dmitry did not give up. He forgot about everything else and focused only on healing Kevin and Henderson.
He pushed thoughts of the war with Chronos out of his mind. There were so many problems – the war itself, the plot in Valhalla, a dangerous black magician, and more. But Roman Dmitry ignored them all. Right now, only Kevin and Henderson mattered.
It wasn’t that he didn’t care about those problems. He just knew that saving his friends was the most important thing right now.
This was why Roman Dmitry wanted to become the strongest. Not just for power itself, and not to ignore important things like friendship. He needed power so he could protect the people he cared about and do what he believed was right.
Days turned into nights. A week went by. Outside the room, people started to gather, watching and waiting.
