Alexander’s mind drifted back to a previous life.
When he was Kim Pan-seok, he loved going to the tavern for a drink after a long day of work.
“Did something like that really happen?”
“Haha! I knew it!”
The tavern was bustling with activity. The air was thick with the smells of beer and food, and the sounds of laughter and chatter filled the room.
Most of the patrons were like Kim Pan-seok, working men who couldn’t afford fancy entertainment like the high-end brothel, Cheonghwaru. They gathered in small groups, talking and laughing as if nothing could be more fun.
Kim Pan-seok was one of them.
With a sun-tanned face, he exchanged jokes with his friends, but he was most interested in the storyteller’s tales.
“Have you ever heard of the Void Walk?”
“Void Walk?” Kim Pan-seok asked, leaning forward with curiosity.
“Yes, indeed. They say that people in Murim, the world of martial arts experts, can step on thin air and fly into the sky. Old Woman Choi from the next village saw a Murim person flying and was so scared that she thought the Grim Reaper was coming for her! She ran screaming back inside.”
“Come on, that’s a lie.”
“A lie, you say!”
That day was like any other.
People were arguing back and forth about the unbelievable stories.
Kim Pan-seok sat to the side, chuckling as people called the storyteller’s claims nonsense, while the storyteller blushed and insisted he was telling the truth.
There were many strange stories about Murim, a world of martial arts experts.
These stories told of people slaughtering thousands of enemies alone, starting fires with their bare hands, or cutting down mountains with a single sword stroke. They were hard to believe, but also fascinating.
‘What is Murim like? How can they do such amazing things?’
Murim became something Kim Pan-seok admired.
Whenever a Murim-related story came up, he would listen intently. If he met a third-rate martial artist claiming to be a great Murim expert, he would believe them without question.
He was so eager to listen, he’d give them anything.
To hear more stories, he would buy them a bottle of alcohol and fill their glass.
Over time, Kim Pan-seok learned a lot about Murim.
Murim people were real, and even though he didn’t know how they mastered martial arts, they were definitely beings who surpassed human limits.
Murim people were his heroes.
Kim Pan-seok looked up to them like stars in the sky. When he fell asleep, he dreamed of becoming a Murim master and ruling the world.
Then one day, the village was in an uproar.
It was a chaotic time. Rumors spread that the Cheonma Shin-gyo, a powerful group that controlled the Ten Thousand Great Mountains, had started a war. Warriors from the Demonic Sect came down from the mountains and cleared the way through the village.
Kim Pan-seok couldn’t figure out what was happening.
Peeking around like the others, he tried to understand the situation when he heard shocking news from the storyteller.
“I told you before! The leader of the Cheonma Shin-gyo, Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk, is the most talented person in history! He has finally conquered Murim, bringing the Orthodox, Unorthodox, and Outer Murim to their knees, creating a new world ruled by Cheonma Shin-gyo!”
The conquest of Murim was an unbelievable idea.
Before he could understand what it meant, a group of people appeared to the cheers of the crowd.
‘Ah.’
At that moment, he knew.
The man leading the group looked like he expected everyone to cheer. This was Cheonma, the leader of Cheonma Shin-gyo, whom the storyteller always praised with excitement.
It was an incredible moment to see him in person.
Kim Pan-seok’s heart pounded. He bowed his head like the others and shouted as loud as he could.
“Cheonma has returned! May all demons submit!”
“Cheonma has returned! May all demons submit!”
He praised Cheonma and welcomed his return.
As the group passed by, Kim Pan-seok took a deep breath and looked at Cheonma’s face.
A thrill ran through him.
Cheonma, whom he had only imagined, had an aura of power that was overwhelming.
‘Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk.’
The absolute ruler of the Demonic Sect.
Kim Pan-seok knew he would never forget the face that looked down upon the world.
His heart raced, and his breath quickened.
When Alexander heard the name Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk, he was so shocked that he forgot where he was.
‘Roman Dmitry was Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk.’
He was in disbelief.
Facing Roman Dmitry’s incredible power, Alexander remembered figures from the Cheonma Shin-gyo.
‘I heard that Cheonma Shin-gyo has four powerful warriors who follow Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk. Could Roman Dmitry be the reincarnation of the Mad Demon, who fought the Orthodox Murim alone? Or the Blood Demon, who killed many Murim people? Or the Sword Demon, who was the best swordsman after Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk?’
The Four Heavenly Kings were figures the storyteller often talked about.
Alexander didn’t know much about Murim, but he knew their names because he lived under the rule of Cheonma Shin-gyo.
But he couldn’t imagine that Roman Dmitry could be Cheonma himself.
For Alexander, for Kim Pan-seok, Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk was like a god.
‘The storyteller said that Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk doesn’t follow common sense. He conquered Murim with overwhelming force, something that previous Cheonmas had failed to do. I lived in the world he ruled, and I was proud to be a citizen of Baek Jung-hyuk in those peaceful times.’
It was shocking.
Baek Jung-hyuk was a perfect leader.
Even though he wasn’t friendly, he gave people a good life with his strong power and clear laws.
People praised Baek Jung-hyuk whenever they gathered.
Alexander also raised his glass, saying they could live in peace thanks to him.
Therefore, he couldn’t imagine opposing Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk. It felt like a sacred boundary that he couldn’t even think about crossing.
‘Ah.’
His body went weak.
He couldn’t accept what was happening.
Looking back, some things didn’t make sense.
He and Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk were from the same era, but Roman Dmitry and he were not. Alexander had lived for countless years, far beyond a human lifespan. The time gap between them was enormous.
What was going on?
He couldn’t understand it, but he knew one thing for sure: he had been defeated.
And was it meant to be?
If it was Cheonma Baek Jung-hyuk, the one who conquered Murim, then Alexander could accept this shocking defeat.
As Alexander was in shock, Roman Dmitry was reading his memories.
Falling into the abyss, he checked the information that could help him, starting with the most recent memories.
Suddenly, the memory stopped.
Suddenly, Alexandr felt a huge weight pressing down on him. It was an overwhelming presence.
“My Lord, the Demon King,” Alexandr said. “The chaos caused by Roman Dmitry is growing worse every day. The she-wolf of the Luna Kingdom is also desperately trying to seal the Gate of Dimensions. Give me your orders. What should I do?”
The Demon King of the Demon World.
It was a presence so huge, it felt like a mountain was standing over him.
Alexandr was in the Demon World, in his mind at least. He waited for orders, his head bowed, not daring to look up at the Demon King.
From above.
A deep, echoing voice, like rumbling thunder, spoke.
The Demon King’s voice echoed. “I want to join the human world and the Demon World together. For my demons to live fully in the human world, the barrier between worlds must be broken. Alexandr, my servant, you started to break this barrier, but it’s not enough. Kill! Cause chaos and bloodshed! The more people suffer and cry out, the weaker the barrier will become.”
“I obey,” Alexandr replied.
This world, the human world. People didn’t know the truth.
They didn’t know who was really controlling Chronos, or what Alexandr really wanted by taking over the land.
The Demon World.
He would welcome the Demon World.
By covering the world in darkness, Alexandr would live forever in a world ruled by the Demon King, having total power.
That was the promise with the Demon King.
When he was Emperor Alexandr, the Demon King had whispered promises of a glorious future.
So,
the Chronos Empire started a war. Because the secret of the Valhalla Empire was discovered, they started the war sooner than planned.
Then, everything changed.
The memories became unclear, like broken pieces. They showed parts of Alexandr’s life as he went back in time.
“(Thinking) Alexandr… He was strong enough to take over the land a long time ago. But he didn’t just want to take over the land. He wanted to join the Demon World and the human world together. That’s why he had to wait. He waited until the barrier between worlds became weak enough. When that barrier breaks down completely, humans who don’t follow the Demon King will not be allowed to live.”
The truth.
He now understood Alexandr’s purpose.
“‘He is truly pathetic,’ Roman Dmitry thought. When Alexandr couldn’t achieve more as a human, he desperately took the Demon King’s offer because of his strong desire.”
Even while being called the founder of Aura.
Even while being the Emperor of the Empire.
He was not satisfied with his current life.
Mother Elf had said that Alexandr was the one who first caused the rift between worlds.
The rift started when Alexandr went through the barrier between worlds and took over a new body. Roman Dmitry understood that the Demon King probably just used Alexandr as a tool to make the rift bigger, not because he cared about Alexandr himself.
Roman Dmitry understood this clearly.
The relationship between the Demon King and Alexandr was unhealthy. Alexandr was so desperate for eternal life that he couldn’t see clearly what was happening.
The memories kept coming.
Then, another memory appeared. He saw a memory of his past life. It was a scene of Kim Pan-seok being swept away by a tear in the world while climbing a mountain.
But…
it was strangely familiar.
* * *
(Scene change)
That place… it felt familiar. In his past life, when he was Baek Jung-hyuk, he often looked for new places to train his fighting skills. That day, he chose a mountain to think about how to improve his fighting.
It started slowly.
As he was thinking about his recent training and understanding, new insights suddenly flooded his mind like a dam bursting. Baek Jung-hyuk suddenly reached a new level of power.
This new level was called the ‘Realm of the Heavenly Demon.’
He felt deeply connected to nature.
To fully connect with nature, he struggled intensely with himself for days and nights, fighting against the pain that started.
He was lost in this new state, unable to regain control.
He felt like he was dying many times but survived.
This level was so advanced that no Heavenly Demon before him had ever reached it. Since no one had taught him how to do this, Baek Jung-hyuk had to find his own way.
He didn’t know how much time had passed.
As he was accepting the unfamiliar pain, Baek Jung-hyuk felt a human approaching the place where he was training.
It was just a normal person.
He didn’t seem to know any fighting skills, and it looked like it took him three or four hours to walk to this place.
He ignored the person.
Whoever it was, it didn’t matter.
Baek Jung-hyuk focused only on himself, entering a state of complete focus, and fully embraced the power of nature.
The change began. The body was reconstructed.
Rebirth was constantly repeated, and when he felt an intense energy piercing through his mind, he was convinced that he had entered a new realm.
Just then… *Whoosh! Rumble!* The world shook.
A rift, a tear in reality, was created by the huge wave of energy. The ordinary person, who had unknowingly wandered into his senses, was swept away by that power.
Only then did he understand.
“(Thinking) Alexandr… he exists because of me.”
When he reached that god-like level of power, the person who was swept away crossed the barrier between worlds and was reborn in a new world with the name Alexandr.
* * *
(Scene change – back to the present)
He stopped thinking about the past. Alexandr… Roman Dmitry looked down at him. It was a very complicated relationship.
Back then, Baek Jung-hyuk thought an innocent person had died because of him. After finding out who the person was, he gave a lot of money to make up for it to the person’s family.
Even if it was unintentional.
Because an innocent person was harmed, Baek Jung-hyuk could not simply ignore what happened that day.
But…
Kim Pan-seok became Alexandr.
Somehow, time and the barrier between worlds were connected. While Baek Jung-hyuk lived his life, Alexandr was creating his own empire in another world.
“‘Is this also fate?'”
Everything…
there was a reason for everything. Alexandr started because of him. And many things in his life as Roman Dmitry felt strangely familiar, like echoes of the past.
And Roman Dmitry’s body was perfect for becoming strong very fast.
Because everything was right, things were naturally falling into place to stop Alexandr’s plan.
This was clear now.
It wasn’t just a coincidence that he was reborn as Roman Dmitry.
The heavy pressure from the Demon World lifted. Alexandr staggered, almost falling. He struggled to open his eyes and look up. Roman Dmitry looked down at him with a calm face and said, “You were my people.”
At that word.
Alexandr’s pupils shook greatly.
