Prosecutor, You’re Going Places! – Episode 100
Wings (3)
“You’re on vacation starting tomorrow, right?”
“Yes. I’m taking off from Friday to next Monday and Tuesday, and I’ll be back to work on Wednesday.”
“Wow, I don’t think the Prosecutor has ever been away for this long before?”
“Hahaha, is that so?”
“Yes. Plus, you look so radiant, like you’re really looking forward to this vacation.”
Yun Seol-ha couldn’t hide her envious gaze.
“I heard you’re going abroad?”
“Yes. Somewhere in Southeast Asia.”
“But wouldn’t it be really hot there right now? Are you sure you’ll be okay?”
“It’s by the beach, and I’ll mostly be staying at the hotel, so I’ll be fine.”
“Ah, then there’s nothing to worry about.”
I closed my briefcase and stood up.
“I’ve already handed over the cases to Deputy Head Prosecutor Lee Doo-hyung, so please handle them.”
“You haven’t forgotten that I’m officially under Deputy Head Prosecutor Lee Doo-hyung, have you?”
“Ah, right. You must know everything then.”
“Of course.”
“There’s nothing much to do besides official matters, so take it easy, and if anything comes up, feel free to contact me anytime.”
“Understood. Have a great trip.”
“I’ll head out first.”
I said goodbye to Yun Seol-ha and left the Prosecutor’s Office.
As I opened the door, I ran into Chief Prosecutor Kang Joong-sik, a.k.a. Viper, who was passing by.
“What brings you to the Special Investigations Department?”
“Ah, I just had some business with Prosecutor Park.”
He grinned slyly and pointed to Prosecutor Park next to him.
Prosecutor Park, huh?
One of the few in the Special Investigations Department who is on the 2nd line, and the least loyal to me in our department.
It was quite suspicious that the two of them were meeting.
Chief Prosecutor Kang Joong-sik asked casually.
“I overheard that you’re going on a trip.”
“Yes. I’m taking some time off.”
“Wow, I’m jealous.”
I smiled and asked subtly.
“Nothing’s going to happen while I’m away, is it?”
“Hey, would that happen?”
The Viper added slyly.
“Even if something does happen, I’ll take care of it for you, so don’t worry and enjoy your trip.”
“I appreciate the thought.”
“Yes, then have a fun trip.”
“Yes. I’ll be going now.”
I turned my back on him and left the office.
As soon as I got outside, the smile I was forcing disappeared.
That Viper.
I don’t like the look in his eyes.
It was clear that we would clash sooner or later, if not now.
I need to prepare in advance.

“Oh, Son-in-law Choi.”
Han Ji-yu’s parents greeted me very warmly.
The title was also affectionately changed to Son-in-law Choi, and even though we hadn’t met many times, they told me to call them Mom and Dad, not Mother and Father.
Since Han Ji-yu is a celebrity, they probably expected to have a singer or actor as a son-in-law, but having a son-in-law with a ‘Sa’ [professional] job, especially the most successful prosecutor in the country, seemed to have played a big role in opening the hearts of her parents.
I had greeted them before and had a few meals, but it was my first time spending so much time together, like this 3-night, 4-day trip, so it would be a lie if I said I wasn’t nervous.
The destination was Kota Kinabalu.
A coastal city in Malaysia, a tourist destination that truly fulfills its purpose as a resort.
I hardly get recognized when I go abroad, but Han Ji-yu is known all over the world, so there are many people who recognize her even in Southeast Asia, making it difficult to move around easily, so we were planning on having a ‘hotel vacation’.
Of course, we would also go to the nearby beaches.
***
While having dinner at a fancy hotel in Kota Kinabalu, my mother-in-law, who had a glass of wine, looked at me affectionately and asked.
“Son-in-law Choi, when are you planning to have the wedding?”
“Oh, you.”
My father-in-law gave her a look, but the power in this family rested with my mother-in-law.
“What’s wrong with that?”
Perhaps thanks to the alcohol, my mother-in-law’s cheeks were flushed as she spoke.
“I want Son-in-law Choi to become part of our family as soon as possible.”
Han Ji-yu waved her hands.
“Mom, you’re making him uncomfortable.”
“Son-in-law Choi, are you uncomfortable?”
Yes.
Of course, this was in my mind.
“No. I want to do it as soon as possible too, but I’ve been so busy with work lately that I haven’t had any time.”
Han Ji-yu’s younger sister, Han Ji-soo, threw a playful glance and said.
“Brother-in-law, you haven’t even proposed yet, have you?”
She seemed a bit awkward with the title of brother-in-law, as if it wasn’t quite familiar to her.
Of course, the titles weren’t perfectly sorted out yet since we weren’t married yet.
I smiled awkwardly at Han Ji-soo’s mention of a proposal.
“Ah, what’s so important about that?”
Han Ji-yu waved her hand, trying to change the subject.
“Seo-joon oppa [older brother, used by females] is uncomfortable, so let’s stop talking about this.”
But Han Ji-soo didn’t seem to want to end the conversation, as she smiled and opened her mouth again.
“Unnie [older sister, used by females] really wants to get married on Chilseok (The seventh day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar, also known as the Qixi Festival or the Double Seventh Festival). She’s such an old-fashioned person.”
Han Ji-yu glared at her, feeling embarrassed.
“Hey, you…….”
“That’s true. Unnie always sings about Chilseok, Chilseok.”
“It’s because my debut work was based on the motif of Gyeon-u and Jik-nyeo (Altair and Vega in the story of the Weaver Girl and the Cowherd), so I was impressed.”
Chilseok, huh?
The anniversary I saw in the future text was also Chilseok.
The future text said that August 14, 2041, was the 20th anniversary of our marriage, so after calculating backwards, August 14, 2021, was the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, which was Chilseok.
There’s only a year left.
I was thinking of getting married on that day no matter what.
Because I didn’t want to lose Han Ji-yu.
We had a friendly conversation for a long time, finished our meal, and got up from our seats.
“We should go in and rest first.”
“Let’s meet at breakfast tomorrow.”
My father-in-law, who was excited about the hotel breakfast, smiled brightly and turned away.
After the two of them went in first, Han Ji-soo linked arms with Han Ji-yu and me and shouted.
“Shall we young people go for a second round?”
“Since we’ve come all the way to Kota Kinabalu, shall we have a cocktail?”
“Sounds good. I heard the view from the rooftop cocktail bar here is amazing.”
We immediately took the elevator to the top floor.
Han Ji-yu and Han Ji-soo were close like friends, as they were born in consecutive years.
According to Han Ji-yu, they used to fight every day when they were young, but after she debuted as an actress and they couldn’t see each other often, they became affectionate with each other.
I drank a couple of cocktails on the rooftop and looked at the night sea, and I couldn’t have felt better.
It had been years since I had completely put aside thoughts of complicated politics, the prosecution, and incidents…….
It was a hotter summer than in Korea, but the salty wind blowing coolly from the beach was enough to make me feel good.
“Sister-in-law, you don’t have a boyfriend yet, do you?”
“Nope. Completely single.”
“If you’re single, you’re single, what’s completely single?”
Han Ji-yu answered as if she had been waiting for it.
“It means there’s no one she’s flirting with either.”
“Ah.”
I looked at Han Ji-soo and closed my eyes.
“Too bad.”
She shrugged her shoulders.
“I don’t mind at all.”
She said.
“I’m still young, so I have plenty of time. Mid-20s.”
Han Ji-yu immediately tackled her.
“Twenty-seven is late 20s.”
“No, it’s not.”
She frowned and turned her gaze to me.
“So, oppa, please introduce me to someone nice.”
“Everyone would want to be introduced to sister-in-law.”
This was sincere.
She looked just like Han Ji-yu, and she had only received a little less camera time, but she had a very pretty appearance comparable to Han Ji-yu.
“What’s sister-in-law’s ideal type?”
Han Ji-soo said without any hesitation, as if she had already thought about it.
“I like someone who is reliable. I want someone who is much older than me so I can rely on them.”
“Is that so?”
That’s quite a unique taste.
“Yes. I want someone who is older than brother-in-law.”
“You like the completely ‘ajusshi’ [middle-aged man] type.”
“No. Not an ‘ajusshi’, but a ‘kkotjungnyeon’ [flower middle-aged man, meaning a well-groomed and attractive middle-aged man].”
“You’re picky.”
“Hehehe.”
Han Ji-yu shook her head as if she didn’t like it.
“Then the family tree will get twisted. Meet someone young.”
“Ah, no. I want to meet someone in their late 30s or something.”
Late 30s is almost a ten-year difference.
“Is being twelve years apart okay?”
“That’s exactly the age range I want.”
Han Ji-yu was disgusted.
“At that age, they’re divorced. You’re a twenty-seven-year-old virgin now.”
“It’s my ideal type, my ideal type.”
Han Ji-soo’s ideal type seemed to be firmly established.
“Actually, I think divorced men are good too. They’ve been through it once, and they’re older, so they have more 余裕 [yeoyu, meaning composure,余裕, or breathing room]. I don’t really like relationships that are restrictive or binding. I think you need to be that old to respect each other’s privacy.”
“Ugh.”
Han Ji-yu shook her head, but Han Ji-soo continued to speak.
“And if they have the ability like brother-in-law, it would be perfect.”
“Hahaha, I’ll try to find someone.”
I don’t know if there is such a person.
Han Ji-yu said to me worriedly.
“I’m really worried that she’ll bring someone older than our dad later.”
“Ah, unnie, it’s not that much. My last line is sixteen years apart.”
“You’re only twenty-eight years apart from Dad.”
“Oh, then my future husband and our dad will be the same age in the Chinese zodiac.”
“Ugh.”
She sighed deeply.
“I can understand up to the same age in the Chinese zodiac as you, but anything more than that is not allowed.”
“I’ll think about it.”
“If they haven’t gotten married at the age you like, they’re either single or have flaws.”
“That’s why I said divorced men are okay.”
Han Ji-yu waved her hands, showing her frustration.
“Ah, you’re really crazy. This is not a respect for taste.”
Seeing them talking, they are truly sisters.
The fact that Han Ji-yu was showing an unexpected side in this situation made her feel even more lovely, which must mean that I was completely smitten.
I understand Han Ji-yu’s feelings about this story, and Han Ji-soo also has an ideal type, so what can I do?
“Brother-in-law, I’m looking forward to the introduction.”
She pretended to shoot a bullet at me and got up from her seat.
“I’m going to the bathroom.”
Han Ji-yu let out a hollow laugh and picked up her cocktail.
“Ji-yu, are you absolutely against it?”
“I’m not absolutely against it, but it’s a bit much to go over a ten-year difference. When I see celebrities dating, I acknowledge a certain age difference, but if they’re over 40, I’m worried that they’re just playing with Ji-soo, but she’ll think it’s love.”
“Should I really try to find someone?”
“If it’s someone oppa can trust, it’s not bad.”
She took a sip of her cocktail and turned to me with a twinkle in her eye.
“But no one in their 40s.”
“Hahaha, I got it.”
Han Ji-yu slid her chair closer to me and leaned her head on my shoulder.
“Ah, this is really nice.”
“Me too.”
A silence flowed.
Not an awkward silence, but a pleasant one.
A silence that is comfortable even without speaking.
How long had it been? She fidgeted and put her hand in my pocket.
“There are so many people here?”
“Oppa, are you a pervert? What are you thinking?”
She made a sharp voice and took her cell phone out of my pocket.
No, you could misunderstand…….
“Why the cell phone?”
“You should show off and brag about things that make you feel good like this.”
“What are you going to do?”
Han Ji-yu brightly registered the photo I took with her family by the sea as my profile picture.
“Oppa said it’s been 5 years since you’ve been on a trip abroad. You should show off things like this and brag about the fact that your girlfriend is Han Ji-yu.”
She smiled shyly, even after saying that.
Even at this time, I had no idea.
That this one profile picture would have a huge impact on my life as a prosecutor…… no, on the life of a human being named Choi Seo-joon.
