“Peace, wait, just wait a minute!”
Don’t rush me, not now! At my urgent shout, Peace stopped in its tracks. *Kkiang*, it tilted its head, looking puzzled. Yeah, to you, there’s nothing strange, is there? But, well…
…It’s all really gone. Only the boots are left. Besides that, the earring and the Grace… This makes me feel even weirder. I wrapped the coat around myself as tightly as possible. It was long, but it didn’t close all the way, leaving a gap at the bottom.
What a mess. Rummaging through my inventory, all that was left were a jacket and a knitting kit. No bottoms, no bottoms! And that’s the most important part.
“Hyung!”
Yoohyun called me. Doubting my eyes, I turned to see everyone else dressed perfectly fine. Except for Chief Song. Chief Song, unlike me, still had his pants on and was wearing a coat. It seemed he didn’t want to invest compensation points in a shirt that wasn’t even an item. The pants were unavoidable, though.
Anyway, it looks like the newbies took care of everyone else. Well, I’m glad everyone but me is okay. I’m so embarrassed.
“Hyung, do you need clothes—”
“Uh, yeah. Yerim, don’t come over here!”
“It’s all covered up so you can’t see anything~”
“Still, no!”
Mixed in with my shouts were the murmurs of the goblins. What’s going on, what’s wrong with Kim, the puppy got smaller! It’s the Great King! And so on. It was chaotic.
“First, first! How long have we been gone? I mean, time-wise.”
“One hour!”
“No, five hours!”
“One hundred ninety-nine hours! Accurate!”
“Kim, I’m hungry!”
“I’m sleepy!”
…Anyway, it didn’t seem like a day had passed. It wasn’t even dawn yet. Judging by the position of the moon, maybe three or four hours had passed. Dawn wasn’t far off.
“Should I take off my clothes for you?”
“What about you? They wouldn’t fit anyway.”
My brother’s heart is appreciated, but it would be ridiculous.
“There’s yarn left, so underwear—”
“No, thank you! I decline!”
Hot pink wool panties? Are you out of your mind? Why does that yarn keep coming out?
“If you’re going to give something, you might as well take off yours.”
“Not only do you want my Silencia [likely a valuable item or skill], but now you want my last layer. My partner is so greedy.”
Sung Hyunjae was talking nonsense, saying he needed to prepare himself mentally before giving that up. Honestly, I think he’d be brazen enough to walk around naked in broad daylight. Chief Song would arrest him the moment he took a step, though.
Chief Song looked like he was about to say something, so I quickly shook my head to decline. No, it’s okay. It’s not okay, but it’s okay.
“Yoohyun, turn around and shield me. Sung Hyunjae-ssi, don’t look.”
I quickly took out a long cardigan and wrapped it around my lower body. With my lower half completely covered, I felt a little peace of mind.
Ah, really. I had so much to say and do, but my head is completely empty.
“No goblins missing! Is everyone here?”
Yoon Yoon checked the goblins and shouted loudly.
“All the goblins who were supposed to come are here!”
“No goblins are with the baby monsters!”
The goblins raised their hands, flashing brightly as they answered. Right, I need to take care of the baby monsters too. I have to take them all back to Korea.
“Now that we’ve safely rescued Han Yoojin-ssi, we must return home as a top priority.”
Chief Song said sternly, as if to say, don’t even think about doing anything else. Yeah, I have to go home.
‘Park Hayool seems to be okay for now.’
The island was destroyed, and I don’t know where he is, so thankfully, I didn’t feel like going to find him. I’ll go back to Korea and say, I’m here, and he can contact me or not. It would be better for both of us to return home than to linger in China like this.
“The nearby airports are all out of commission, so we’ll have to move by land first.”
— Kkiang!
Peace, who had been circling around my feet, seemed to understand and grew in size. Oh, but can I even ride you right now…
— Grrr.
“Thanks, Peace, but, um, can you put your legs together to the side… Is it too unstable?”
I can’t ride with my legs spread. I need underwear. Preferably pants too.
“Shall I go find the kids?”
Yerim floated up and said.
“You can’t go alone!”
“I’ll go with her. I’ve finished investigating this area and know it well.”
Noah also spread his wings and flew up. The two of them left to get the kids, and the rest of us, except for Yoon Yoon, sorted out the situation.
“You didn’t come without an escape route, did you?”
If they were going to destroy the airports, they would have prepared a way to get out separately. Surely they have a plan.
“I was going to send Hyung back first.”
Yoohyun picked me up and sat me on Peace’s back. The hem of my coat naturally opened, revealing the hot pink cardigan, which was very embarrassing. I quickly pulled the coat back to cover it. I’m a fashion terrorist. Even barefoot with boots.
“Because we have Peace.”
“And the rest of us are S-Class [top-tier hunters], so we can get back on our own? By swimming across the West Sea?”
“I would have accompanied Hyung, and Hunter Park Yerim and Noah have flying skills.”
Are you abandoning Sung Hyunjae and Chief Song? Well, those two, especially Sung Hyunjae, would be fine no matter where you threw them.
“Now there are too many kids, it won’t work. Yoon Yoon, can the goblins cross the sea?”
“They won’t even make it halfway before falling in!”
As expected, we needed to take a plane or a ship.
“Since communication is impossible here, let’s head to Hefei first.”
Sung Hyunjae said. Then Chief Song spoke.
“There are military vehicles parked by the lake over there. Older vehicles wouldn’t have immobilizers [anti-theft devices].”
“Chief Song, have you ever stolen a vehicle before? You sound like you know what you’re talking about.”
I joked, but Chief Song’s face clouded over slightly. Really?
“Was it Colombia? Egypt?”
Sung Hyunjae is the culprit. How far did he drag Chief Song?
Anyway, we decided to go to Hefei to make contact and find out the situation. It was suspicious that it was so quiet even though this chaos had been going on for several hours.
Not long after, Yerim and Noah returned.
“Ahjussi! The kids are all safe!”
Yerim shouted, holding a baby Pegasus. Next to her, a baby Water Dragon was submerged in a bubble. The Water Dragon poked its head out and flapped its fins as if to say hello.
— Kkeureureung!
In Noah’s arms was a baby Water Buffalo lost in dreamland. Sleeping soundly. Leafnil fluttered over, and the goblins brought the baby Fox and the Egg.
— Keureureu.
Peace, seeing the scene, growled discontentedly. Leafnil, who had been trying to approach me, was startled by the ferocity and circled in the air.
“Don’t be like that, Peace.”
— Kkeuung.
“No matter how many baby monsters come, our Peace is the best.”
Let’s see, we’ll need at least three cars. In the meantime, the lake had melted, so Sung Hyunjae rode on Peace with me to hold me steady, as it was difficult for me to sit properly. Thanks to that, I had to appease Peace, who was clearly displeased.
Yoohyun had Willow Leaf, and Noah took Chief Song. The area around the lake was also quiet, without a single soul. There wasn’t even anyone guarding the cars.
“Okay, everyone split up and get in. Goblins, be quiet! Four people can drive, right?”
“Ahjussi, I can too!”
“Yerim, there are low-ranked goblins and baby monsters, so let’s pass today.”
She has a license, but I was uneasy.
“Instead, do you want to try putting water in the keyhole and freezing it to match? Would that work?”
“I’ll try.”
If it’s an old car, it might be possible to pick the lock.
“If you press the pin in the right place, it’ll turn.”
Yerim pushed tiny ice shards into the car door’s keyhole. Not long after, *click*, the door opened.
“It’s done! Here!”
“Good job! Of course, you shouldn’t do this normally. It won’t work on modern cars anyway.”
“Don’t worry.”
That’s how four ice keys were made. The goblins turned into small fireballs and swarmed into the cars, and we each divided up and got in. Yoon Yoon, with her high-level stealth skill, decided to stay outside to guard the surroundings.
“Don’t leave me alone until we get back to Korea.”
I turned off my fear resistance skill and said quietly to Yoohyun, who was driving.
“It’s still dangerous because Park Hayool’s skill hasn’t been lifted. It’s okay if you don’t have fear resistance.”
“Should I find him and kill him?”
“It’s unsettling how that might turn out. It would be good if the skill is lifted, but it could be applied strangely. He might try to avenge Park Hayool or cause other mental shocks.”
“I shouldn’t touch him carelessly. I’ll tell Park Yerim too.”
“Yeah. Once we get to Korea, you can live without fear resistance normally.”
I only need to turn it on when I meet high-level hunters. I won’t be alone then, so even if I try to run away, they can catch me easily, and I can have someone watch me.
“But we can’t just leave the danger factor alone, so we have to find Park Hayool. Should we put out a wanted notice?”
“It’s more dangerous if we don’t have a proper reason. Especially if we start looking for Park Hayool publicly right now, it’ll be easy to guess that he’s related to Hyung’s kidnapping.”
“Everyone will roughly know what’s going on behind the scenes, won’t they?”
“They don’t know that it’s a mental skill, that the effect is still on Hyung. It’s better to make it look like the kidnapping case is completely resolved for now.”
“I guess so. I should stay quiet for a while too. I have a lot more kids to raise.”
I glanced back at the back seat. The baby monsters were sleeping peacefully in the swaying car. Peace, in between them, was looking at me discontentedly. I put him there to protect the kids in case of an emergency.
“Want to come here? Peace.”
— Kkiwoong.
Peace came over to the passenger seat as if he had been waiting. I petted him a lot as he rubbed his whole body against me, purring.
“Our Peace is so admirable. I heard you took good care of the goblins too?”
— Gyareureung.
“You’re so good, you’re a complete adult! You’ve grown up so much!”
— Kkeueung.
Peace turned his head sharply and flicked his tail discontentedly. Huh?
“What’s wrong?”
“There’s no way a guy who deliberately uses his juvenile form would like being treated like an adult.”
“Really? He’s such a crybaby.”
Such a cute guy. I wonder if the other kids are doing well at home.
After driving for a long time on the desolate road, we finally reached the city. There was a guard post set up on the roadside, but they let us through right away, perhaps because it was a military vehicle. Has the chaos in Laoshan Island not been reported yet?
We went to a reasonably conspicuous store, and Sung Hyunjae made a phone call somewhere. In the meantime, Yoohyun bought me clothes to wear. I never thought I’d be so happy to see ordinary clothes. Food, clothing, and shelter are essential for living.
Before long, people from Sesung [likely a corporation or organization] appeared. They seemed to have been waiting in Hefei, which is close to Laoshan Island.
The place they led us to was a large mansion like a villa. It was a mix of Chinese and Western styles, surrounded by high walls. There were places like this in Hong Kong too, but this isn’t a familiar neighborhood. Did they rent or buy it in a hurry? It’s good to have a lot of money.
“This isn’t accurate information yet, but…”
Sesung’s informant cautiously opened his mouth.
“Undead, those who cannot die, have appeared among the hunters belonging to military units in various parts of China.”
Undead, could it be?
“…Is it the same phenomenon as the soldiers who changed on the island?”
“Those who had contracts in advance may have become undead even outside Laoshan Island.”
“It must be a mess.”
I thought of Hwang Rim, who took Cho Hwawoon. No matter how I think about it, that guy seems to be one of the main figures. What is he up to?
…Could it be that he was planning to overthrow the military from the start? Or does he have another purpose?
“And the Murim Alliance [a martial arts organization] has requested an interview.”
“Now?”
“They said they would send a helicopter in the morning.”
Then I could rest until morning. The return routes were said to be by ship from Shanghai and by plane from a functioning airport. Since there’s a helicopter, it would be better to go to the airport.
Yoohyun and Chief Song left to contact Haeyeon and the Head of the Management Office, respectively.
“Ugh, I don’t know if I can sleep.”
I stretched my arms out and yawned. The time difference has changed drastically. But should I close my eyes for a moment? I’m tired.
“I’m not sleepy at all. Can I go out to the garden?”
“Just don’t cross the wall.”
“I want to look around too! There’s a pond!”
Yoon Yoon followed Yerim out lively, but the other goblins were all sound asleep.
“Noah-ssi, have you ever thought about going to medical school?”
I sprawled on the living room sofa and spoke to Noah.
“…Yes?”
“I thought it would be better to use skills if you know more about the human body. Well, you don’t have to go to medical school, you can study separately. I can ask a doctor at Sesung Hospital too.”
He would know more about the bodies of hunters than a general doctor. Then Sung Hyunjae got up from his seat and looked at me.
“Would you spare me some time?”
What’s going on? I have a lot to say separately, but…
