470. Letter (1)
A ringing echoed in my head. I considered activating Poison Resistance but decided against it. When else would I get to experience a hangover? It would be hard to drink as much as I did yesterday. Besides, I wanted to stay dazed a little longer.
‘…How embarrassing.’
I hugged a large pillow and buried my face in it. Despite my heavy head, yesterday’s events came back to me clearly. Every single thing was embarrassing.
‘Didn’t I get drunk from just the lounge?’
Maybe I did. I finished a whole glass of wine. And last night, well, I tried to get moderately drunk so I wouldn’t say anything stupid. But the wine was quite delicious, and the subtle buzz made me feel good.
‘It’s not wrong to like people, is it?’
I think I kept repeating that. What’s wrong with that? It’s better than hating, I said. Ugh, the memories are too vivid. Yoohyun kept saying I was right, Myungwoo kept feeding me snacks and telling me to drink, and Noah said he liked me too… Halfway through, Yerim tried to sneak in with Gyeol. I immediately chased them out, though.
Then Yoohyun said I seemed too drunk and took me to the bedroom, and then… I think I said I still had alcohol left and wanted to finish it. In the end, I turned off Poison Resistance because it was frustrating and passed out completely. I hope I didn’t say anything weird. Just in case, I checked the keyword registration. Han Yoohyun, still there.
‘…I should drink in moderation.’
I struggled to lift my head and saw my brother sleeping next to me. He had taken off his coat, but his tie was only loosened. The sight made me feel warm. If he had gone to a normal university, he would be doing this all the time. College students have a lot of drinking parties.
I was thinking, ‘How much did he drink? But he found his way home,’ as I considered washing him and putting him to bed. I got drunk with him yesterday, but Yoohyun seemed only slightly tipsy. Did he drink more after I passed out? …I hope I didn’t make him drink.
I activated Poison Resistance and sat up. Maybe it was because the alcohol was special, but I still had a slight hangover.
‘…Now that my head is clearer, it’s even more embarrassing.’
How funny must I have looked? An F-stat [someone with F-ranked abilities] shouting at an S-stat [someone with S-ranked abilities], the strongest human, that I would help him and catch him if he ran away. Ugh, how can I face Sung Hyunjae? What about Hyunah, or Chief Song… Ugh. Still, well, I didn’t regret it. If I went back to that moment, I would say the same thing. Maybe act a little calmer.
‘Yeah, it’s what I want to do.’
Pushing others to live well, without their consent, can be selfish, and the results aren’t always good. But Sung Hyunjae told me to be selfish first, so it doesn’t matter, right? He should keep his mouth shut since I’m doing as he wishes. Whatever he says to me, however he acts!
Suddenly, I remembered Sung Hyunjae saying something about a firm foundation. That was at a hotel too, though not this one. I definitely didn’t have much faith in myself. What I believed in… were the things my brother gave me: my skills, but not really mine, and what I gained with those skills.
‘The me without those things.’
I liked Chloe because I was a fan of her broadcasts, but also because she acknowledged effort regardless of rank. She said the information I, an F-rank hunter, got from clearing dungeons was useful. I, just an F-rank hunter without any comparisons, was quite skilled. I sold several tips to Dohmyeong for a good price because the environment was harsh, I had to use my body and brain more, and naturally, I had more experience than others.
So I thought if I met Chloe Hunter and talked to her, she would recognize my value… Well, thinking about it now, it’s a bit embarrassing. That’s why I applied to be on the show.
‘But the current me was told she was disliked.’
It’s an opinion that might change if she knew the whole story. Still, it’s, well…
‘Not bad.’
It was shocking at first, but now I feel a bit relieved that Han Yoojin from before the regression was criticized. The current me is definitely better. Everyone would say the current Han Yoojin is better. But the old me, the me with nothing, also lived hard.
‘The me in another world is probably doing well too.’
Without any special skills. She didn’t become an F-rank, but she’s still low-ranked.
So maybe I, with nothing, am a little trustworthy. I shouldn’t be shaken too much when Sung Hyunjae acts up. …It’ll be hard not to be shaken, but what I want to do is clear.
Even if Sung Hyunjae really leaves.
‘…That’s still annoying.’
He erased his name from my phone’s address book and showed it to me. He said he’d accept me as a partner and wait for me even if I was lacking. Hey, it hasn’t even been a year! A year? It hasn’t even been half a year. It was August 30th then, and it’s only November now! Performance is usually reviewed quarterly, but he can’t even last three months! If you count the different time flow in the dungeon, it’s about three months, but still!
I should have grabbed his collar properly, but if I did, I’d just be begging him.
“…Hyung?”
As I hit the innocent pillow, Yoohyun opened his eyes.
“No, you can sleep more.”
My brother sat up groggily. He completely loosened his tie and swept back his messy hair.
“…This isn’t good.”
“What, the hangover? Well, it’s your first time.”
Alcohol that works on S-ranks has only just come out, and we couldn’t relax and get drunk in the dungeon back then.
“It’s not a pleasant feeling.”
“Not that. I wasn’t very drunk, but I still couldn’t control myself perfectly.”
“Huh? But everything seemed fine. Nothing’s broken.”
Since the alcohol isn’t very strong yet, Yoohyun, being an S-rank, and I, before turning off Poison Resistance, only felt slightly excited.
“It’s okay if it’s just me, but I could hurt Hyung.”
“Hey, I have Grace [a protective skill]. If you’re worried, I’ll always turn on Grace when I drink with you.”
“The feeling of being affected by mental skills isn’t good either. Even if it’s weak, I won’t drink in the future.”
“Really? I wanted to have a drink with you sometimes.”
“Only with Hyung, only at home, in a completely safe place.”
Yoohyun frowned slightly, saying he hated anything else.
“Are you okay, Hyung?”
“Me? Yeah. I feel kind of relieved.”
I said awkwardly.
“I think I said it yesterday too, but I still think it’s okay to like anything, no matter the outcome.”
When you like something, you’re happy, comforted, and have positive feelings. Of course, it can be hard because of it. I was too, but I still don’t regret it. Even if I lose everything again, if I go back, I’ll like everyone again.
Sung Hyunjae isn’t bad… Well… I went through a lot, but there were also enjoyable things, and that was delicious, and it was delicious back then too. That place suited my taste too. Of course, Myungwoo is the best, but he takes too much care of my health. It’s amazing that healthy food can be delicious.
“Of course, I won’t fall head over heels and give everything away. I’m going to do what I want.”
It’s not much different from before, but how should I put it? I’m putting myself more at the center. Yoohyun’s expression darkened at my words.
“Okay, Hyung. He’s a foreigner anyway.”
“…What?”
“Park Yerim said he’s a high-ranked hunter and works hard, so he definitely won’t be able to come to Korea often. I’m going into dungeons, so a few days a month should be fine.”
“No, hey.”
“But you absolutely can’t be alone with him. Always take Peace with you. Draw up a contract—”
“I got rejected!”
What are you talking about, you little brother?
“Besides, he hates me!”
“There’s no way a high-ranked hunter would hate Hyung. It was your first meeting, and you haven’t harmed him.”
Even those psychopaths said high-ranked hunters like my type.
“Still, you can’t please everyone. And Chloe is related to Park Hayool.”
Yoohyun’s mouth snapped shut. Feeling the sudden fierce energy, I quickly stopped my brother.
“She’s already gone into hiding! I’ve told Chief Song.”
“…When did you notice?”
“I suspected it soon after meeting her, wait a minute!”
Yoohyun grabbed me and threw me onto the bed. Hey, hey!
“No, nothing dangerous happened, Ack! Hey!”
“I thought the Seseong Guild Leader and the Breaker Guild Leader were just watching.”
“Yoohyun, Ugh!”
Pain!
“I held back because I was told not to interrupt Hyung’s confession.”
My shoulder was pressed down hard. I screamed in pain. The best room is spacious and soundproof, but it couldn’t block my screams, and the door burst open.
“Yoojin?”
“Yoojin-ssi!”
“It’s just a massage.”
My brother said calmly.
“I learned from an expert, so don’t worry.”
When did you learn that? Don’t tell me the teacher was the Chaos Elder.
“But he seems to be in too much pain.”
Yoohyun answered Noah firmly.
“Hyung did something dangerous again.”
“Ah…”
“It’s good for his body. Yoojin, you’ll tell us later, right?”
Myungwoo turned around first, and Noah also closed the door, feeling a little sorry.
“No, Huk! Ugh, Yoohyun, Ack! Gently—!”
Oh, brother’s dying, you bastard! Tears welled up, but it was also refreshing. My brother looked down at me, completely limp, with dissatisfaction.
“Ugh, it was just a suspicion, and the preparations were solid. Actually, I didn’t think I could find out exactly, so I was just testing the waters and was going to tell you guys right away. But Chloe told me everything.”
She said she didn’t intend to hide it, but she was originally planning to tell me and leave. She might have given me a letter at the airport before leaving. ‘Please read this after I’m gone,’ or something. So I needed to check. Thanks to that, I had a chance to catch Chloe.
“Sung Hyunjae noticed before I said anything, and Hyunah was there at the time. And you and Yerim would have been obvious if you knew. That’s why, I definitely didn’t hide it on purpose.”
“Okay. Should I learn acting?”
“Why go that far… It would be helpful, though.”
It would be good for social life. Yoohyun didn’t need to act in front of others, but he could use it in other ways, like when I was arrested before. It didn’t seem like acting, though.
I staggered off the bed, washed up, and went to the living room. Yerim, who had stayed in another room, had come with Gyeol, having heard the news. Room service that had arrived in the meantime was set on the table.
“What she liked was real, even before the regression.”
I briefly explained about Chloe, that I liked her a lot, so my confession wasn’t a complete lie.
“She was sorry for using me.”
I told them what Chloe said, leaving out the story about Sung Hyunjae. Sung Hyunjae… I need to meet him again and figure out his intentions. I’ll also ask for his cooperation in catching Chloe. I don’t know if he’ll listen, but if he refuses, I had to catch Sung Hyunjae somehow.
“What is he? Kidnapping is kidnapping. How much did Ahjussi [term for older man] suffer?”
Yerim said sullenly.
“If she’s sorry, she shouldn’t say she hates you!”
“No, personal and public matters are different.”
“Yoojin, you’re not still hesitating, are you?”
Myungwoo frowned slightly and continued.
“Anyway, it’s a fact that she hurt you. Just delivering the letter makes her an accomplice.”
“That’s right. And just being acquainted with Hwangrim is unsettling.”
Noah seconded Myungwoo’s words. That’s true. I took out the letter Hwangrim sent from my inventory. I opened the envelope…
“…It’s in Chinese.”
Does this bastard think Koreans can naturally read Chinese? King Sejong created Hangeul [the Korean alphabet] a long time ago, yet he confidently wrote the letter in Chinese? Even the letter is annoying.
“Should I call a translator? Someone who can read Chinese?”
I was worried about security if I called someone. Should I ask Teacher Hoyeon?
“You can read it roughly with a translator.”
Yerim said, taking out her phone.
“You have to write each Chinese character.”
“It recognizes text on paper too.”
“Really?”
“Try spreading it out on the table.”
I know about translators, but can you translate letters directly with a phone? Yerim held her phone over the letter. Then, the letter was translated clumsily.
