75. Chick Class Teacher (2)
Because Haeyeon had little time left to manage the S-Rank Dungeon, I scheduled the A-Rank Dungeon for the very next day.
There wasn’t much to prepare anyway. It was a lower-level dungeon with perfect information, expected to be cleared in under three days, or even two if we were fast.
I arrived at the gate management building for the A-Rank lower dungeon, known as the ‘City of Black Golems.’ As soon as I got out of the car with Peace in my arms, a sleek red sports car appeared, parking with the precision of someone who’d been parking for a decade. It was a truly skilled maneuver.
The person who emerged from the sports car was none other than Moon Hyun-ah, the Guild Leader of Breaker. She wore a form-fitting racing suit and a utility belt for carrying essentials. A small backpack was slung diagonally across one shoulder.
That outfit, the belt, and the backpack were all likely made from dungeon items or byproducts. It was a long-sleeved, long-legged outfit unsuitable for the weather, but the temperature inside the dungeon would be different anyway.
Even Yoohyun was wearing a coat. I remembered it being an S-Rank item, but what was it again? I hadn’t used it for that long.
“Yo, Bro!”
Moon Hyun-ah kicked the car door shut with a bang and waved one arm. That’s an expensive car; it’ll get scratched. She’s so rough with it.
“The thought of going through a dungeon with a glass bead makes even an A-Rank feel exciting. Just don’t break it.”
“I’m not carrying it around. If it’s kept safely in a secure place, it won’t break.”
“Aww, boring. Hi, Yerim!”
“Hello, Unnie!” [Unnie is a Korean term for older sister or female friend.]
The two embraced each other warmly. Or rather, Yerim grabbed Moon Hyun-ah’s arm and twisted it, and Moon Hyun-ah easily escaped, putting Yerim in a headlock.
“Oh, you’ve gotten stronger?”
“Ack, ack, I surrender!”
How friendly. Yerim shouted, “I love you, Unnie! Save me!” It must be nice to say ‘I love you’ so easily. I need to tell Moon Hyun-ah the keyword too.
“What are you staring at so intently? Jealous?”
Yoohyun was talking nonsense. My neck bones are fragile, you know.
In the meantime, another car arrived. It was none other than Sung Hyun-jae, the Guild Leader of Sesung. As always, he wore a coat that didn’t suit the season, looking more like a young entrepreneur than a Hunter.
I remembered that black-red coat. It was the SS-Rank equipment, the Wings of Hwaryong Silekia [Wings of Hwaryong Silekia is the name of the coat], the reward for clearing the S-Rank Dungeon ‘Raining Volcano’ for the first time. The detailed options were unknown like other high-end equipment, but one thing was famous: S-Rank fire resistance.
‘But how are dungeon reward items made?’
Could that also be the work of the System folks? There are armors and such, but the higher the item, the more modern items there are, so do they tailor them to our world? And those are more expensive even with the same stats. A coat or vest is better than a cloak or armor.
“Am I the last one here?”
Sung Hyun-jae approached with a smile in his eyes. I wish you hadn’t come.
I contacted him because the perfectly suitable A-Rank Dungeon happened to be under Sesung Guild’s management, and he granted permission to attack it, but an unnecessary bonus came along with it.
Our country’s S-Ranks are so free.
“Hyungnim [Hyungnim is a Korean term for older brother or respected male figure], lend me Peace for a bit. I want to fight that human.”
Moon Hyun-ah looked at Sung Hyun-jae with fiery eyes.
“Experienced people should play with each other. Don’t even think about bringing our unripe kid into it.”
“Even if they’re unripe, they’re still S-Rank.”
“No thanks.”
It’s not a dungeon raid; solve your own problems. I hugged Peace even tighter, and Sung Hyun-jae strode up to me. His gaze was full of interest as he looked down at me.
“I wonder what kind of scheme our Han Yoojin is plotting this time.”
I hadn’t told Sung Hyun-jae my exact purpose yet. But he still insisted on joining; is he that perceptive?
“It’s nothing special, so you can go back.”
“How disappointing. It’s about time you opened up to me.”
How much have you seen to be talking about opening up?
“You don’t like Hyung [Hyung is a Korean term for older brother or respected male figure], do you?”
Yoohyun pulled me closer as if embracing me and said quietly.
Sung Hyun-jae rolled his eyes and looked at Yoohyun, who was shielding me.
“I’m amazed every time I see Young Master these days. How could you have endured it for three years with that temper of yours?”
“Mind your own family’s business.”
“It’s hard to call it someone else’s family business when both brothers are extraordinary. Especially Han Yoojin.”
Haha, they’re all sparking at each other. Is Yerim next? I subtly stepped back and looked at Kim Sunghan, who was packing his luggage. He also looked quite troubled.
Is this why S-Ranks don’t form teams often? Even after the dungeon difficulty increased, the S-Rank teams maintained the minimum number of members; it might not have been just because of the lack of Hunters.
In fact, entering dungeons with S-Rank Hunters from other guilds was prohibited. It was one of the special laws created in the early days of dungeons.
It would be a problem if valuable S-Rank Hunters got into a fight in a dungeon and inflicted fatal wounds on each other. Of course, it didn’t matter if they were from the same guild, but until Yerim, each guild only had one S-Rank Hunter, so joint S-Rank guild raids were virtually impossible.
Today was an exceptional permission. It’s a special situation in many ways. What reason would there be for S-Rank Hunters to enter an A-Rank Dungeon like this?
“Yoohyun, let’s go in. Guild Leader Sung Hyun-jae, please wrap it up. I’ll explain the details inside.”
“You can call me comfortably.”
What do you want me to do? Should I call you ‘Ahjussi’ [Ahjussi is a Korean term for older man] like Yerim?
* * *
There were no A-Ranks other than Kim Sunghan on this raid team. We already had more than enough power to clear a lower A-Rank Dungeon, and I felt sorry for dragging in innocent A-Rank Hunters.
Think about it, there are three guild leaders. Our CEO, the CEO next door, and the CEO across the street are all gathered together. What more could a subordinate with poor work skills be than a lackey watching everyone’s eyes? Just a moment ago, Moon Hyun-ah tried to dump her bag on Kim Sunghan, so I told her to carry her own luggage.
A normal A-Rank wouldn’t be able to act like me, so it was much better for them not to come. They could get caught in a whale fight and have their backs broken.
The S-Ranks passed through the gate first, and I waited with Peace and Kim Sunghan for about 10 minutes before entering the dungeon.
[○┣┗┗=┃○!!]
Ah, yes.
Unlike the weather outside, a slightly cool air enveloped the ruined city. It wasn’t a modern city. The collapsed walls, the houses with only skeletons remaining, and the castle shrouded in mist in the distance resembled those of medieval Europe. However, I heard that the exact style couldn’t be found in any era of the past.
‘…Is it the trace of another world?’
Traces of this kind of civilization could only be seen in high-level dungeons. Intermediate and lower levels usually only had natural environments.
‘What’s that?’
Among the ruins of the buildings, there were traces that looked like the ground had been dug out with a giant excavator. There were as many as five long marks, about twenty or thirty meters long, spread out like a fan. It felt like a giant beast had clawed at the ground.
The remains of monsters were scattered haphazardly around it. They were so shredded, like they’d been put through a blender, that it was hard to guess their original form.
“Hyungnim, Hyungnim!”
Moon Hyun-ah, likely the owner of those traces of destruction, approached me with a cheerful expression, holding a pure white, giant spear in one hand. It looked like she’d pulled out a telephone pole.
“I’m not going to fight Sung Hyun-jae. Just lend me Peace for a bit!”
“…Why again?”
“I’ve never been able to use a ride-type monster to my heart’s content in a high-level dungeon. The intermediate ones can’t handle my strength. Let’s finish the calculation today without waiting for Blue’s growth. Huh?”
It wasn’t a bad story. Peace could also gain experience since we came to an A-Rank Dungeon. But.
“Peace belongs to Haeyeon. The person you need to ask is me. Stop bothering the wrong person.”
Yoohyun interjected with a cold face. As he said, I was the one who needed to give permission.
Moon Hyun-ah, interrupted, puffed up her cheeks like a child. But her eyes were not those of a child but of a warrior who had rolled around on the battlefield for years.
“Asking is for people who understand what you’re saying—”
“Let’s start now.”
I cut off Moon Hyun-ah’s words and stepped out from between them. She really speaks nicely. I hope Yerim doesn’t become even more foul-mouthed from being close to the Breaker Guild Leader.
“Peace.”
– Kkiang!
Without another word, Peace jumped out of my arms and grew in size. It wasn’t fully grown, but it was about halfway between an adult and a sub-adult. Looking at the status window, the stats had risen to S.
It would be easy to become a target if it was too big, so that size would be appropriate for the current situation. Our Peace is so smart.
Moon Hyun-ah stopped growling at Peace’s enlarged form and sparkled her eyes. Sung Hyun-jae also showed interest and approached.
“It’s smaller than I heard. Can you control its size at will?”
“Yes. As you can see.”
I took out a saddle for ride-type monsters from my inventory and placed it on Peace’s back. It was an A-Rank ride-type monster equipment with weight reduction and speed increase options. As befitting a dungeon item, the size was automatically adjusted.
Hanging the luggage I received on the back of the saddle made me feel bitter. Of course, as a top-tier combat ride-type monster, there would hardly be any need to carry luggage normally.
“Unnie! Can I really eat all the magic stones?”
Yerim shouted as she flew over. I wondered what she was doing near the monster-slaughtered remains, but she was picking up magic stones.
“Yes, take everything that comes out.”
Yerim smiled brightly at the cheerful permission. If she picked up and sold all the A-Rank magic stones, her debt would be significantly reduced. Go, Yerim, fighting!
The surrounding monsters had been completely cleared in 10 minutes, so we started moving immediately. I, with my lacking stats, had to rely on Peace.
The City of Black Golems was a two-story dungeon with golems and undead as the main monsters. They were sturdy and tough, but their movements were slow, and their ranged attacks were limited to throwing rocks, which was perfect for our situation.
Lower-level liches occasionally popped out, but they specialized in poison and curses, so there was no problem protecting me.
The first floor is cleared by annihilating the undead army that appears after a certain number of monsters around the city are dealt with.
“They’re too slow!”
Yerim, who had landed lightly on the head of a 3-meter-tall golem, laughed gleefully. There was no tension or fear at all. She looked like she was on a picnic.
Pure white mist floated around Yerim. Mist that freezes enemies, a cold lament. That skill received a property buff from the Ice Tree Spear, rendering dozens of golems immobile.
Yerim literally flew around, binding the golem groups,
Kwagwagwag!
And Moon Hyun-ah’s great spear exploded there.
The earth cracked and sandstorms swirled wherever the spear touched. The golems touched by that terrifying power shattered like dry leaves.
Considering the solidity of the golems, it was truly tremendous destructive power. They were being smashed so easily that I felt sorry for the monsters facing her.
“Moon Hyun-ah is no joke even without a ride-type monster.”
I said, taking my eyes off the binoculars. If a high-level ride-type monster with good rushing power was added there, there would be no one to stop her. With the current dungeon difficulty, even a decent S-Rank boss would be knocked out in one hit.
“There won’t be many who can follow the destructive power concentrated at the tip of the spear.”
Yoohyun, who was riding behind me, said. I know very well that the back is the most vulnerable, but I don’t think you need to be this close. Anyway, he’s overprotective.
“But the path is obvious, so it’s relatively easy to avoid.”
“What did you just say!”
Moon Hyun-ah shouted. What, did she hear that? She was coming this way, but the distance was quite far, wasn’t it?
“Well, since we’ve come all the way into the dungeon, let’s have a fight for the first time in a while?”
What? Wait a minute. Before I could react, Moon Hyun-ah rushed over like a storm. Yoohyun frowned slightly at the already swirling gusts and jumped off Peace’s back.
A sword appeared in Yoohyun’s hand, and he sprang forward in an instant. A great spear and a sword; wasn’t Yoohyun at a disadvantage? The moment I thought that, blue willow leaves unfolded.
“Just because our view is a little obscured—”
Moon Hyun-ah’s voice was cut off. Just before being swept away by the great spear’s storm, Yoohyun’s body soared into the air. He ran through the air, stepping on willow leaves at a speed that my eyes couldn’t follow.
Moon Hyun-ah, who had lost her target, slammed the great spear straight into the ground. Kwang! With a loud noise, the terrifying rush stopped as if it had been cut off.
Wow, to stop that speed so quickly. The mobility, really.
Kagagagak!
Immediately afterward, the ear-splitting sound of blades scraping against each other echoed. The moment Moon Hyun-ah stopped, Yoohyun’s sword, which had dug into the gap, and Moon Hyun-ah’s longsword, which she had taken out in the meantime, collided strongly.
Moon Hyun-ah laughed briefly and stepped back.
“You use the blue willow leaves so much?”
“This is in front of Hyung. Please refrain from doing that.”
“Refrain?”
Moon Hyun-ah made a dumbfounded expression at Yoohyun’s words. They’re going to fight again like that. I gestured to Peace to go to them quickly.
“This is a good place to fight these days, with the dungeon not exploding, so why refrain? Are you really the Young Master I know?”
“Hyung might get hurt.”
“The dungeon is wide.”
“Moon Hyun-ah!”
Moon Hyun-ah put away her weapon as I approached.
“Why are you trying to fight so much?”
“Hyungnim may not know it well, but high-level Hunters are originally like this.”
Moon Hyun-ah scratched the back of her head and said.
“But you can’t fight outside, and S-Rank Hunters are prohibited from entering the same dungeon.”
“That’s probably why it’s prohibited.”
Moon Hyun-ah smirked at my words.
“It’s just lightly mixing hands, lightly.”
“No way.”
“Hyungnim is strict.”
“There’s no healer right now, and I’m a weak F-Rank, so please bear with it.”
I can cross the Yordan River with just one pebble thrown by an S-Rank. Yoohyun nodded in agreement with my words. Seeing that, Moon Hyun-ah let out another hollow laugh.
“Did you see that? It’s not even funny, really. Chief Song should have been here too!”
Sung Hyun-jae, who had already approached, shrugged at Moon Hyun-ah’s words.
“It seems like I’ve decided to be a good, obedient younger brother today. Should I be the one to face Breaker Guild Leader?”
“Conscientiously, match the equipment grade and come. I don’t have a single SS-Rank item!”
Moon Hyun-ah said as if she was wronged. Well, Sung Hyun-jae has two, including his weapon and coat. There may be more.
The world’s first SS-Rank weapon and the world’s third SS-Rank coat. It was really too much. Sesung is the best, that’s what it is. It makes me feel unnecessarily jealous.
“Even if I can’t help the chain, take off that coat at least. You said you’d fight, but you’re wearing that too.”
“That’s right, that’s right. Take off that coat!”
If possible, take it off during the ranking match too. And if you take it off, fold it neatly next to you, then I’ll secretly take it, but that won’t happen. I want to steal it.
Sung Hyun-jae wore a deep smile at my and Moon Hyun-ah’s claims.
“Since my child—”
“Ack! Ack!”
“Wants it, I have no choice but to follow.”
With that, Sung Hyun-jae loosened the coat’s fastening. Huh? Wait a minute.
“A-Are you really giving it to me?”
Sung Hyun-jae’s hand stopped, and Moon Hyun-ah’s eyes widened.
“Hyungnim, you were staring intently!”
“Han Yoojin is greedy.”
“N-No, that’s!”
My true feelings came out without thinking. Moon Hyun-ah laughed loudly and patted my shoulder roughly. It hurts.
“Young Master, why didn’t you buy Hyung a coat!”
“It wouldn’t be very useful to Hyung. Do you like the design? Should I get you one made?”
“What is it, what is it? Ahjussi! I can buy you clothes too!”
“No, no! It was a slip of the tongue!”
Besides, it’s not even coat season yet. The back of my neck turned red with embarrassment. Damn it.
“Just, please don’t fight each other. This F-Rank is dropping dead.”
“Are you talking about the liver that takes off my coat?”
He took it off himself, what is he saying? Put it back on. Anyway, it seemed best to keep the S-Rank Hunters apart.
“W-Well, Guild Leader Sung Hyun-jae, please move soon. A group of golems is moving in the northwest.”
“I told you to call me comfortably. Even this coat—”
“Please, Sung Hyun-jae. I don’t have the stamina to stay in the dungeon for long, and the kids are waiting for me at home, so I’d like to finish quickly. Please cooperate.”
I’m not really lacking stamina, so don’t make a sad face, Kim Sunghan.
“I can’t refuse when our Han Yoojin asks.”
Sung Hyun-jae smiled as if he was a good person and turned his body. What do you mean ‘our’ again? Ugh, we’re only on the first floor, but I already felt sick.
Please let’s go peacefully, peacefully.
* * *
After that, the S-Ranks except for Yoohyun were busy sharpening their blades at each other. Even Yerim, who was relatively weaker, claimed that she was confident she could win if they gave her a penalty equal to the stat difference.
What could I do but try my best to separate them in between?
“Yerim, there’s a group of undead scattered in the east. It’s a bit far, but can you go since you’re the fastest?”
“The golems are gathered between the walls, perfect for hitting. It seems like it would be perfect if Hyun-ah went.”
“Yerim and Hyun-ah have caught a lot, so this time you go a bit too, Yoohyun.”
“Sung Hyun-jae, you look bored, so why don’t you go for a light walk? It looks like something is moving behind that ruined building over there. Ah, yes, Hyun-jae. Is that okay?”
As I was talking so diligently, the mist that had been covering the old castle in the middle of the city disappeared.
– Uwoooo.
With an eerie wail, the castle gate opened wide, and an undead army crawled out. Black golems that looked about twice as big as the golems that had come out so far were also mixed in here and there.
It was an overwhelming number, but I didn’t feel any tension. Of course.
Who should I send this time?
