The Chadra Overlord 2
It seems the pride of those criminals called the Chadra Overlords is quite something.
If you make a careless remark, they’re ready to fight to the death.
“So what if it is? Sir Azadin. Instead of bringing in random people, why don’t we talk amongst ourselves? Let’s not test the waters with proxies and have a frank discussion.”
Chashan, knowing that Azadin is the real power behind the investigation team, asked directly.
“What do the others think?”
Azadin asked the other two of the Chadra Overlords.
“The infamous name of the Chadra Overlords? I’m just a diligent paladin. I just had a little accident while taming a hippogriff [a mythical creature with the body of a horse and the head and wings of an eagle] and got dragged here.”
“That’s not your only problem, Selim.”
Sedrin chided Selim and looked at Azadin.
“I don’t want to agree with that dwarven drug dealer, but are you Azadin? Let’s talk directly. What exactly did you want by purging Hexenmeier? What is the Herald Clan plotting? Aren’t you satisfied with destroying Korasar and Butuma?”
They all misunderstood Azadin. They thought that Azadin, being a member of the Herald Clan, must have come with some hidden agenda, and that’s why he purged Hexenmeier.
No matter how much Azadin denied it, they believed he was a Herald Clan member, and that his people were responsible for the large-scale destruction and massacre in Korasar and Butuma, so they wouldn’t believe him.
“Our reputation is nothing compared to the infamous Herald Clan that destroyed Butuma and Korasar. In that regard, Sir Azadin, I acknowledge your position… but giving up the Chadra Plateau so easily is not something our pride will allow.”
Chashan also seemed obsessed with the status of the Chadra Overlords.
‘I’ve never even heard of these guys, why are they acting like celebrities?’
Azadin sighed as he looked at them.
“Look, you might not believe me, but most of my people, the Aragasa you call the Herald Clan, betrayed the Emperor. They acted on their ambitions, and as a result, they committed that massacre in Butuma and Korasar. In contrast, I, as the Emperor’s herald, fought against my own people. So, as of now, I am the only herald of the Emperor.”
“Oh. You’re not responsible for the massacre in Butuma or Korasar? That’s a very believable story.”
The dwarven smuggling king, Chashan, scoffed. However, Sir Selim didn’t seem to understand the sarcasm.
“Huh? Chashan? You believe that? I don’t!”
“It’s sarcasm, you stupid minotaur. Just because you have a cow’s head doesn’t mean you have to think like one.”
The elven druid, Sedrin, sneered, and Sir Selim thought for a moment before getting angry.
“So, this guy is lying to us right now? Unforgivable! Azadin! You’re a trainee knight, yet you deceive your brothers!”
Surprisingly, the part that angered Selim was a bit different. Unlike the other Chadra Overlords, he seemed genuinely attached to the Order of the Hospitallers.
“It’s not a lie, it’s the truth. I’m a Hospitaller, you’re a Hospitaller, why would I lie to a brother of the same Order? However, I told the truth, and it was Chashan who scoffed, saying he didn’t believe me. Is it because he’s not a knight that he doubts the honor of a Hospitaller?”
As Azadin said that, Sir Selim nodded.
“That’s right. Chashan is not a knight. A dwarf who sells drugs can’t be a knight. Even if the Hospitallers are as common as dogs and cows, they should still be people who uphold the three virtues.”
Everyone couldn’t help but chuckle at the words ‘dogs and cows’ coming from the mouth of Selim, who had a cow’s head.
“Wait a minute? So, you’re really not responsible for the massacre in Butuma or Korasar?”
“That’s what I’ve been saying, brother.”
Azadin said with a smile.
Then Selim was flustered.
“Ugh, this guy. His smile is as charming as Maribel from our ranch.”
“Maribel?”
“The best milk cow on our ranch. You’d be amazed by her beauty if you saw her. She’s really pretty.”
“……”
Being a minotaur, he seemed to find cows attractive.
Azadin, suddenly compared to a cow, closed his mouth, and the druid, Sedrin, who was listening, burst out laughing.
“Okay, let’s sort out the situation. Mr. Sedrin, do you want the position of forest keeper of the Black Soil Forest?”
“I do, but more than that wouldn’t be bad. Actually, I don’t want to leave Fireglyph to someone like you.”
“Sir Selim, what about you?”
“There’s no need for many words! I want to create more hippogriffs and strengthen the Order! It would be amazing if we could all fly in the sky together!”
“Just so you know, don’t listen to him. That’s why he’s confined to the Chadra Plateau.”
Hippogriffs are mythical creatures born between griffins and horses. They are fierce, but their existence is also considered a miracle.
Trying to artificially create hippogriffs is much more expensive than just taming griffins. Even considering that griffins eat livestock like they drink water.
Even a three-year-old would know how unrealistic Sir Selim’s claim was.
“Chashan, what about you?”
“Loosen the regulations on trade. If you entrust trade to me, I can make Fireglyph even more prosperous, almost like a nation.”
“By selling drugs? That’s impossible. We need to collect taxes to secure revenue, and there’s no way it will become prosperous with your methods. Besides, what about the people who are ruined by drugs?”
Azadin listened to their demands and came to a conclusion.
“Sedrin will maintain his current position as the forest keeper of the Black Soil Forest. Sir Selim’s request to increase hippogriff production is rejected. Chashan, your request is also absurd, so it’s rejected.”
An unpleasant result came out for the other two, except for Sedrin.
Sedrin wasn’t particularly happy with the result either.
“Then I won’t agree either. The forest keeper of the Black Soil Forest is originally my position. To act differently from the Chadra Overlords on the condition of maintaining the status quo, you need to offer something more if you want to divide us.”
Sedrin rejected Azadin’s condition, which was less than maintaining the status quo.
Selim was so angry that he looked like he would charge at Azadin right now.
“What?! You, do you hate hippogriffs? How can you ignore such beautiful creatures! You’re a hippogriff hater!”
However, at the very moment Sir Selim was preaching about the beauty of hippogriffs, the hippogriff that had been injured by Sedrin’s face began to relieve itself on the terrace, groaning.
The smell of rural manure flowed directly into the office.
“Oh, really…..”
Chashan glared at Azadin with a sinister smile.
“Hehe, Sir Azadin. You’re still young. If we, the Chadra Overlords, interfere with your rule, you’ll have to take responsibility alone when the Chapter Master is appointed later. You, a member of the Herald Clan, have destroyed the predecessor of Fireglyph, and no one will look kindly on that, will they? Do you think you can live in this Chadra Plateau without our cooperation or assistance? This Chadra Plateau is a land where magic runs wild. No matter how talented you are, there are things you can’t do alone. Especially if you make enemies….”
As Chashan subtly threatened Azadin, Azadin sighed.
“It seems you’re misunderstanding something. You guys were quiet when Lord Hexenmeier was in charge, but now you’re trying to get a piece of the pie. Do you think I’ll just say yes and give it to you?”
“!!!!!”
“You want to interfere with my rule? Go ahead, I’ll crush you. What I recommend to you is to quietly continue enjoying what you have now. In this harsh land, you are still needed, so the Order has left you alone until now.”
“You!”
Chashan was furious, and his hair and beard rose into the air. And the tattoos on his body shone and flashed.
The wild druid, Sedrin, was also glaring at Azadin with vertical pupils, not elven eyes.
Sir Selim snorted and looked at Azadin.
“Crush us? You’re arrogant. I like it. Let’s duel….”
“Don’t, you idiot.”
Sedrin stopped Sir Selim.
“The Herald Clan are specialists in assassination. Even you would be in danger if you fought directly. Do you think they’re called the Kingslayer for nothing? If you lose here and one of us five falls, our morale will be broken.”
Sedrin said that and glared at Azadin.
“Hmm. Sir Azadin. I’ll tell you in advance that the three of us here are much more moderate compared to the other two. You really have no intention of forming a committee. You’re going to rule Fireglyph alone, right? That thought hasn’t changed, has it?”
“It’s not that I want to rule, but I don’t think I should hand it over to you. And strictly speaking, Fireglyph is ruled by Lord Pavel, the head of the investigation team. I’m just a middle manager.”
“Okay. The negotiation is over. I hope you’ll convey that intention to Nicelda and Sok as well.”
Sedrin transformed into a crow and flew out the window.
“This! I have to heal my beauty before I leave! How can he just leave!”
Selim grumbled and ran out to the terrace. As the huge minotaur stomped around the office, his horns hit the lamp hanging from the ceiling, chairs were broken, and tables were overturned, causing chaos.
It seemed that the druids’ green magic, regeneration, had already been cast on Selim’s beloved hippogriff, which he ran out to.
“Hmm, the healing spell has been cast. Sedrin is a reasonable person after all. Okay then. Sir Azadin. I’m watching you closely! You’ll regret not listening to me!”
Sir Selim and the hippogriff left a large amount of horse manure on the terrace and flew up into the sky.
“Everyone is making a grand exit, I guess I should do something too.”
Chashan said, gesturing to Braham.
“But instead of doing such useless theatrics, let’s just go. Sir Azadin. You will regret this choice today. You should have joined hands when we were being civil.”
Chashan and Lord Braham left.
“Uh… uh.”
Lord Pavel was trembling, overwhelmed by the hostile killing intent that the three Chadra Overlords were emitting.
“Why did you do that, Sir Azadin? I just want to live a long and peaceful life.”
It was a truly pathetic thing to say.
But Azadin had to comfort Lord Pavel.
