Protecting the Heroine’s Older Brother – Episode 6
Protecting the Heroine’s Older Brother 6
“Noona [term of endearment for an older sister or female friend in Korean], when did you come to your room? I came looking for you earlier, but…”
Jeremy said to me, sounding a bit sulky, and then seemed to realize something as he turned around.
“Hey, why are you still standing there like an idiot? Get lost!”
It was a completely different, cold glare and tone than when he spoke to me.
Jeremy glared at Emily, who was still standing by the door.
He was the one who barged into my room without permission, yet he was treating Emily like an intruder. He seemed quite annoyed by her presence.
But Emily was my subordinate. Instead of leaving the room immediately as Jeremy told her to, she looked at me.
Her eyes were asking for my opinion on whether to kick out Jeremy, who had entered the room without permission, or just let him stay.
“You can go, Emily.”
Only after I spoke did she quietly bow and leave the room.
Jeremy’s chilling gaze followed Emily’s retreating figure.
Of course, he wouldn’t dare to lay a hand on my people, but he seemed somewhat displeased with Emily’s attitude.
“Jeremy.”
Thud.
The door closed completely, and I called him, feeling a slight annoyance.
“Come here.”
Of course, I didn’t show those feelings outwardly. After all, I was a kind and affectionate older sister to this kid.
At my call, Jeremy reluctantly turned his gaze from the door and approached me. I reached out my hand to him.
“I came earlier, but the room was empty. Where did you go?”
Jeremy took my hand and unhesitatingly sat down at my feet.
His behavior of leaning his face against my leg was just like a dog wagging its tail at its owner.
I understood why Jeremy had tried to get Emily out so quickly. He couldn’t show this side of himself to others.
He looked a bit sulky, as if he was quite disappointed that he hadn’t been able to meet me when he came looking for me earlier.
I didn’t falter at Jeremy’s question and said,
“To the hatchery.”
“The poison butterfly hatchery?”
“Yeah.”
In reality, I had gone to see Cassis Pedelian in the underground prison, but I didn’t say that.
Jeremy seemed to believe my excuse without question, and he frowned.
“Are you really going to hatch it?”
“It’s the last egg left, so we have to succeed this time.”
“I just wish it would die like last time.”
“We got it with such difficulty; it would be a shame if there were no results this time either.”
But Jeremy still looked displeased. I knew that he was worried about me, and my heart softened a little.
In the novel, Jeremy was a slightly foolish villain character who, bewitched by the heroine, blurted out the family’s secrets and shameful deeds.
But maybe it was because he was still young, but he had quite a cute side to him when I looked at him like this.
Even though his personality was a bit nasty, it was at a common level in Agrit, and he was gentle only to me.
“About the toy Father brought this time.”
Jeremy, who had been acting spoiled while resting on my lap, suddenly brought up the story of Cassis Pedelian as if he had just remembered it.
“We’re not even allowed to approach it, so it doesn’t seem like an ordinary guy, but who is he anyway?”
“I don’t know.”
I already knew, but he seemed to have a considerable interest in the new toy in the basement.
“He doesn’t seem ordinary.”
Jeremy’s body flinched for a moment at my passing remark.
“What, is Noona interested too?”
Soon, he lifted his face from where it had been buried in my lap. He seemed to have keenly caught something from my reaction a moment ago.
“Noona, you’ve never shown interest in a toy before.”
Jeremy stared at me intently. His bright blue eyes were scrutinizing my face.
“Yeah, but this one looks a bit interesting.”
I gladly responded to his reaction.
Seeing my face with a gentle smile, Jeremy narrowed his eyes.
“Hmm, is that so?”
He seemed to be thinking about something for a moment, then soon rested his chin on my leg again and looked up at me.
“Then I’ll give it up to Noona.”
It was a huge deal for Jeremy to give up prey he had once set his sights on. But I already knew he would say this.
In his eyes, which were subtly looking up at me, there was a faint expectation.
This meant, ‘Aren’t I good? Praise me quickly!’
I smiled brightly and stroked Jeremy’s head.
Then Jeremy rubbed his head against my hand with a satisfied expression, like a well-fed beast.
He was purring like a cat. Still, I mustn’t forget that this guy was a wild beast.
But seeing him clinging to me like this and craving affection, he was still just a fifteen-year-old child, no matter what.
I had known what Jeremy wanted for a long time, and I was happy to do as he wished.
Jeremy, receiving my touch, looked content.
*I’m glad that you’re moving according to my will.*
I thought so with a slightly dry heart, unlike the affectionate touch that was caressing him.
* * *
Damn Agrit.
Cassis felt a surge of nausea and spat out the blood that had pooled in his mouth.
A little while ago, the guard came and tortured him once again. It was the second time he had been whipped while tied up.
It wasn’t to extract information or for any other purpose, but simply to inflict pain on him.
Cassis’s once pristine appearance had long been reduced to a miserable state.
His handsome looks, one of the elements that had made everyone willingly admire him as the ‘Blue Nobleman,’ were now covered with sadistic scars.
The aftereffects of the poisons, spells, and traps that Agrit had used to kidnap him, as well as internal injuries, were also considerable.
About four days had passed since Cassis was kidnapped at the border.
He had long heard about how vile and wicked the Black Agrit were.
But he never imagined that they would openly declare war on the Blue Pedelian like this.
This was the same as announcing the start of a war. To dare to step onto Pedelian’s land, attack its heir, and bring him as a prisoner.
Rather than the pain in his body, a rage that seethed from within consumed Cassis.
He wanted to cut down Lant Agrit right away and escape from this place, but it was impossible now that he couldn’t even see properly.
Cassis glared beyond the iron bars with an eerily sharp gaze.
His vision was still blurry, and he could only see the faint light, but his condition was better than yesterday. Just like the girl had said, his eyesight was slowly starting to recover.
Clang.
At that moment, the sound of a door opening was heard in the distance. Then, small footsteps followed.
Cassis held his breath and listened to the sound.
It wasn’t the guard who had come a little while ago. Footsteps that were smaller and lighter than his were heading towards where Cassis was.
It was that person. The unidentified girl who had been visiting him for the past few times.
“You look pretty bad today.”
The girl said as soon as she opened the iron bars and saw him.
Her tone was somewhat regretful. It sounded like she had sighed softly.
Suddenly, he felt a presence in front of him, and a subtle fragrance approached and brushed against the tip of his nose. Cassis stiffened his body as he felt the warmth that followed.
“Don’t touch me.”
“Just stay still; I’m just going to check if you have any serious injuries.”
His body instinctively tensed at the feeling of cautious hands lifting his torn clothes.
He thought about struggling to shake off the girl’s touch, but soon he quietly stared at the face in front of him.
His searching gaze was fixed on the girl in front of him.
But he had no choice but to frown because he could only see a vague human figure in his frustrating vision.
“Fortunately, you seem to be doing okay. But if it hurts a lot, should I give you some painkillers?”
“I don’t need it.”
Cassis felt a little strange every time he heard the girl’s voice.
The voice, which had a strangely sweet feeling, was clear and gentle like jade beads rolling.
Moreover, as if some strange power that could not be explained in words was imbued in it, before he knew it, he found himself unconsciously listening to that voice.
“Eat this. Unless you want to starve to death.”
