138. Nightmare
March 17, 2024
She was suffocating. The young eyes of the enemy, whom she thought she would never see again, were trapping her.
In the dream, Rosette barely managed to open her mouth and explain.
“But it’s all over now. I turned back time. Dad, Daniel, and the Empress are all safe. Duke Dallas is gone too.”
“That was the least you could do. What difference does it make that you merely turned back time and fixed everything?”
‘But the Prince thanked me for turning back time. He thanked me for giving him the chance to correct the past…….’
[Beeeep!]
Rosette’s eyes snapped open at Pipi’s louder and sharper cry than usual. As soon as she opened her eyes, she felt tears streaming down her temples.
[Beeeep? Beeep!]
Pipi kept asking what was wrong and if she was okay, but Rosette couldn’t come to her senses right away.
She stared at the dark ceiling, blinking for a long time before she could grasp reality.
‘It was a dream.’
But even after realizing that what had just happened was a dream, Rosette couldn’t calm down. Pipi rubbed her cheeks against Rosette’s face, which was trembling like an aspen.
[Beeep.]
‘If I were as big as Silver, I could hug you tight.’
Rosette gradually regained her composure as she listened to Pipi muttering as if she felt sorry for her.
“It’s okay, Pipi. I just had a nightmare.”
[Beeep?]
“Just a nightmare.”
[Beeeep.]
‘What do you mean, just a nightmare? Did a monster bother you?’
“No, it wasn’t like that.”
‘Actually, I was the monster.’ Rosette smiled bitterly and muttered to herself.
“I miss the Prince.”
[Beeep?]
‘Are you talking about Silver’s owner?’ Pipi asked, but Rosette couldn’t bring herself to affirm it and curled up.
“The Prince…….”
‘I want to see with my own eyes that he doesn’t despise me.’
Unable to say the words, she pursed her lips, and Pipi rubbed her face against Rosette’s wet cheeks.
[Beeeep?]
‘Should I fly to the Imperial Palace right now and call Silver’s owner? Would that make you feel better?’
At Pipi’s question, Rosette quickly shook her head.
“No, Pipi. I appreciate the thought, but there’s no need to do that.”
[Beeeep…….]
“The Prince isn’t someone you can call anytime. Besides, he’s probably asleep right now, and even if I called him, he wouldn’t come out of the Imperial Palace at this hour. And…….”
‘Even if we met, there’s no guarantee that the Prince would welcome me. What if he hates me like he did in my dream?’
Rosette knew rationally that Joshua wouldn’t do that now. But because of the nightmare she had just had, she felt uneasy for no reason.
When Rosette didn’t say anything, Pipi chirped worriedly.
[Bee…….]
“You know, Pipi, you don’t remember, but I actually did a lot of bad things. Of course, I didn’t want to do it. But I did do it.”
[Beeep.]
“But Pipi……. I think I’m a little sick.”
Rosette clutched the area around her stomach, which suddenly began to cramp, and curled up. Cold sweat instantly beaded on her forehead.
Pipi said she would call people, but she stopped her with a gesture. She didn’t want to worry her family again.
Fortunately, the stomach cramps didn’t last long.
“I think my body is getting strange, Pipi.”
[Beeeep…….]
“Maybe I’m being punished.”
[Bleep!]
Rosette smiled faintly as she watched Pipi rub her body against her hand, saying that was absolutely not the case, and then closed her eyes.
* * *
Rosette had a restless night. Joshua kept appearing in her dreams, and every time he did, Rosette groaned and woke up to Pipi’s voice.
She fell asleep and woke up several times. Before she knew it, it was dawn.
“I don’t want to go to morning training. Should I just rest today, Pipi?”
[Bleep!]
“Yes, rest!”
“But if I skip training, everyone will think it’s strange. Right? I’ve been doing physical training every morning.”
[Beeeep…….]
Rosette kissed Pipi, who was staring at her with her tiny eyes, on the head and got up from her seat.
However, Rosette soon realized that her judgment was completely wrong.
“Hey, what’s wrong with your face?”
Lukas asked her as soon as he saw her. Rosette covered her face and pretended not to know.
“What’s wrong with my face?”
“It’s a mess. Your eyes are swollen and red! Don’t tell me you were crying?”
“No.”
“Then what’s wrong!”
“I just didn’t sleep well.”
Rosette wanted to gloss over it, but Lukas kept pressing her.
“Why didn’t you sleep well after having so much fun yesterday?”
“I just had a nightmare…….”
“What nightmare!”
A knight couldn’t stand it anymore and interjected.
“Young Master, the young lady doesn’t look well. Why don’t you stop and let her go.”
“No, what am I……. Sigh, never mind. Kid, go to your room and rest. You’ll fall if you run like that.”
“Yes.”
Rosette returned to her room under the worried gazes of the knights.
The rumor that Rosette was in a bad mood quickly spread throughout the mansion. The people of the mansion worked hard to cheer her up.
The chef made a lot of her favorite desserts, and Joan styled Rosette’s hair beautifully.
The gardener picked freshly bloomed flowers and decorated Rosette’s room.
Pipi brought a white wildflower for Rosette, but she was intimidated by the fancy bouquet that the gardener had brought first.
[Beeeep…….]
“Pipi, your flower is the prettiest.”
[Bleep?]
“Yes, really.”
Rosette chuckled as she watched Pipi happily put the flower in her ear.
‘Yes, a dream is just a dream.’
‘The Prince thanked me himself. He acknowledged me as Adrian and said he would call me Rosette.’
‘That’s the Prince’s true feelings. There’s no way the Prince still resents and hates me.’
Thinking that, she tried hard to change her mood.
“Pipi, let’s think about the Prince’s birthday present together.”
Just as Rosette was deliberately discussing it with Pipi more cheerfully, a hissing sound came from somewhere, and a white snake crawled in through the window. It was Perito.
[Bleep!]
Pipi, who still hated Perito, flew out the window. Perito stared at the white bird flying away for a moment, then approached Rosette, drawing an S shape on the floor.
Before Rosette could even greet him, Mihaelis’s worried voice flowed from the magic communication device that Perito was holding.
“Can you see my face?”
Perito wagged his tail slowly as if to say that was right.
“I’m not worried about anything. I’m not in a bad mood either.”
“Even if I were worried, I have no reason to tell you.”
“We’re not friends.”
At Rosette’s slightly firm words, Perito drooped his head as if he was disappointed. Rosette added as if making an excuse.
“And even if we were friends, there’s no reason to tell each other everything. Everyone has their own secrets.”
“Who told you that?”
Mihaelis’s quietly whispered voice was a little bitter.
‘Is he missing his father? Is his father not of this world?’
She was a little curious, but it didn’t seem like it was her place to interfere. Rosette asked a different question instead.
“It’s been a while. What have you been up to?”
Mihaelis’s voice brightened a little.
“No.”
She felt sorry for Mihaelis, but it was true. Looking back, it had been a long time since Perito had come to visit or she had talked to Mihaelis, but she didn’t miss him. In fact, she hadn’t thought about Mihaelis at all during that time.
That’s because she had been very happy spending time with her family and Joshua.
“Don’t talk nonsense. So what have you been doing?”
“A trip?”
Mihaelis was rather flustered when Rosette asked as if she was hearing it for the first time.
“No. So where did you go?”
“You have too many secrets. You’re the one who said that there shouldn’t be any secrets between friends.”
“No.”
Mihaelis chuckled at Rosette’s firm words, as if they were funny.
“I told you, I wasn’t in a bad mood.”
At that moment, Rosette was about to retort, ‘I’m not saying that, it’s not,’ but she pursed her lips.
‘I’m not a child.’
It was strange. When she was with Mihaelis, she felt like she was becoming childish. It was a different feeling from acting spoiled with her family.
“What are you going to do if I tell you?”
Mihaelis, who made a small groan, fell silent. Even though she couldn’t see his expression, Rosette felt something eerie.
The hairs on her body stood on end, and she felt a chill down her spine.
“Mihaelis?”
“……What does that mean?”
Mihaelis muttered like a devil whispering only sweet words.
“……Don’t joke around. That’s not funny.”
Mihaelis paused for a moment and then laughed out loud.
“…….”
“Of course, I have to go.”
“Looking forward to what?”
Mihaelis replied in a voice mixed with laughter.
