195. Rosette’s Sleep (2)
2024.05.13.
“I’m okay, Brother.”
Rosette smiled at Daniel, who continued to comfort her.
“I can’t let my issues ruin the remaining work. This matter is serious not only for me but also for the Imperial Family.”
Despite her words, Daniel kept trying to reassure her. Rosette, who was muttering that she was fine, suddenly looked at Daniel’s leg.
“But what about you, Brother? Your leg, I mean.”
“Ah, I’m completely healed now.”
Daniel stood up and moved his leg as if to show off. The leg that had been limping when Rosette last saw it was moving naturally, as he said.
“I had a check-up while you were sleeping. There’s nothing to worry about. They said there would be no aftereffects. They told me to refrain from strenuous exercise for the time being, but there won’t be any problems with my knightly duties in the future.”
“That’s a relief.”
Rosette sighed in relief.
“It’s all thanks to you, Rose.”
“No, it was possible because you endured, Brother.”
As the two siblings gave credit to each other, the chief physician and Celine finished their examination. The chief physician opened his mouth with a brighter face than when he entered the room.
“The young lady is fine.”
“Really?”
Lukas reflexively asked, and the chief physician nodded with a gentle smile.
“Yes, young master. However, she must have lost a lot of stamina, so it would be good to start with a light meal and get some more rest.”
Next, Celine explained.
“The young lady knows her body best, but her mana has stabilized a lot. It’s like when she was young; she fainted because she consumed too much mana at once.”
She sighed.
“Seriously… When she was young, she hadn’t learned magic and her mana core wasn’t properly established, but how could this happen again? If it weren’t for the young lady, we would have all died.”
“No, it’s because everyone helped. Joshua helped at the end too…”
Rosette, who was absentmindedly waving her hand, frowned at the pain suddenly felt in her palm. She hadn’t realized it, but her palm was bandaged.
It was the very hand that had held Michael’s hand, which was condensed with mana.
Celine looked embarrassed.
“I’ve treated all the other injuries, but I couldn’t treat the wound on the young lady’s palm. For some reason, magic doesn’t work on it.”
“I see.”
Rosette tried using healing magic as a test. However, the pain did not disappear even with her magic.
“It seems to be because of the unknown power used by Marquis Lschelle. But I confirmed that the wound has healed a lot compared to a week ago, so if you continue to disinfect it and apply medicine, it will heal soon. Don’t worry.”
“Okay, I understand.”
Actually, it didn’t matter even if it didn’t heal. She had safely rescued her precious people, so what was such a small wound?
However, her precious ones didn’t think so and gave her firm warnings.
“Hey, brat, you thought you were okay, didn’t you?”
“No, it’s not that…”
“This brother isn’t okay, so get treated well. I’ll check every day.”
“Yes, Rose. Everyone will be sad if you don’t get better.”
“Of course, young lady!”
Rosette nodded absentmindedly.
“Okay, I understand.”
Then she realized again.
‘Being loved is truly a happy thing.’
In fact, while glimpsing into Michael Lschelle’s memories, Rosette briefly empathized with his life.
Rosette tried to deny Michael’s claim that they were alike, but as he said, she had similarities with him.
They were the same in that they were exploited by people and their bodies and minds were ruined just because they were born with unbearable talents.
Rosette was used by Marquis Dallas, and Michael was used by an unknown nobleman.
The feelings they felt in the process were also similar.
I wish I could just die. If I close my eyes and sleep tonight, I wish I wouldn’t open them tomorrow.
They were also the same in that they had a friend and familiar who unconditionally empathized with their feelings.
Coincidentally, both children met someone who would help them.
Rosette met Duke Adrian, and Michael met Count Lschelle and received a lot of love. Perhaps Michael was also drawn to Rosette in that respect.
So, Rosette and Michael were standing close to each other with a piece of paper between them.
If Rosette hadn’t realized the love given by her family and those around her, wouldn’t she have become like Michael?
‘No, I’m different from Michael.’
So, she would never become like him in the future.
Rosette clenched her uninjured hand and opened her mouth to change the subject.
“But Father…”
She hadn’t even finished her question. The door opened somewhat roughly, and Duke Adrian rushed in.
“Rose!”
Rosette quickly scanned the Duke, who was quickly approaching the bed. He seemed to have been injured while confronting Michael, but fortunately, he seemed to have been treated without any problems, and there didn’t seem to be any particularly painful areas.
“Dad!”
As soon as Rosette confirmed that Duke Adrian was safe, tears welled up in her eyes. She was happy that the others were safe, but above all, she thanked God that the Duke was alive in front of her.
When Duke Adrian said he would face Michael alone, Rosette’s heart dropped, thinking she would never see him again.
The moment Rosette moved her body and placed her feet on the floor, Duke Adrian hugged her tightly.
He didn’t say anything. But from his trembling body and uneven breathing, Rosette realized that Duke Adrian had been very worried for a week.
Rosette tried to speak brightly.
“I’m okay now.”
“…Okay.”
“How about you, Dad? How are you?”
“Dad is fine.”
Celine and the chief physician, along with others, quietly left the room, watching the situation. In an instant, only the people of the Adrian family remained in the room.
Rosette buried her face in Duke Adrian’s arms and acted spoiled. She had acted resilient in front of her older brother and sister, but strangely, she wanted to whine in front of her father.
“While I was unconscious, I felt like I was being sucked somewhere. It felt like I was sinking into a dark and cold deep sea.”
“…”
“But I tried hard to come out because I was worried everyone would worry.”
Rosette eventually mumbled, shedding tears.
“I’m glad everyone is safe.”
“Yes. I’m glad you, Lukas, and Daniel are safe too.”
Duke Adrian, who muttered softly, examined Rosette’s body.
When he saw her bandaged hand, he distorted his face as if it was more painful than if he had been injured. Rosette had to tell him several times that she was okay until the Duke’s expression relaxed.
Soon, Duke Adrian, who was completely relieved, hardened his face. Apart from the fact that his four children were safe, he had something to say to them.
Rosette sensed the approaching future and swallowed hard. Lukas also stiffened as if he was nervous.
“Rose, Lukas. How could you do such a thing without telling your father? What were you thinking? It’s a relief that you’re safe, but what if something had gone wrong? Do you know how surprised I was?”
“I’m sorry. But Lukas Brother is not at fault. I was the one who wanted to go. So don’t scold him.”
“No, Father. It’s my fault. I should have persuaded the brat properly. I was short-sighted.”
“I told Lukas Brother that if I was going to be a hindrance, I would knock him out and go alone. So it’s my fault.”
“It’s all my fault, so punish me.”
Rosette and Lukas, who were insisting that it was their fault, looked at each other and burst into laughter.
They were defending each other in front of Duke Adrian, so it felt like they had returned to their childhood.
Twenty years old and twenty-three years old. They were not young, but the four siblings were always young and fragile children in front of the Duke.
Daniel also laughed as if his younger siblings were cute, and Isabel sighed, holding her temple as if she couldn’t help it.
Duke Adrian, who was still serious, said sternly to the cheerful siblings.
“Are you laughing now?”
Rosette and Lukas simultaneously closed their mouths.
“No, it’s not because it’s funny…”
“It’s just that everyone is safe, so I’m relieved…”
The Duke sighed.
“Anyway, both of you are grounded until I give separate instructions.”
“Father! How old am I to be grounded? That’s too much.”
Lukas protested loudly. But soon, he lowered his tail at the Duke’s sharp eyes.
“Well, I don’t have anything to go out for, so it doesn’t matter. Unlike the mansion in the capital, there are many things to do here, so it won’t be boring.”
On the other hand, Rosette retorted in a timid voice.
“But Dad. I want to go to the capital.”
“Is it because of His Highness the Prince?”
“…Yes.”
Rosette lowered her head.
It had already been a week since that happened. She hadn’t heard properly what had happened in the capital and the Imperial Palace during that time, but there must have been a bloodbath [a great slaughter or carnage].
But currently, there was no one by Joshua’s side. Duke Adrian and the three siblings were protecting Rosette’s side.
Wasn’t he fighting a lonely battle alone? Silver would be there, but that wouldn’t be enough.
So, she wanted to go to him quickly and support him.
‘More than anything, I want to see him.’
Rosette blushed slightly.
