Reunion (2)
Joshua stood still and opened his arms towards her. Rosette ran towards him without slowing down, embracing him tightly around his neck.
Even though the impact must have been quite significant, Joshua stood firm, not wavering, and wrapped his arms tightly around her waist.
From Joshua, whom she was touching, came his unique, refreshing scent and the cool smell of winter. His coat was as cold as ice, having been exposed to the biting winter wind, but his touch was warm.
The face she had missed so much over the past month. Day and night, even in her dreams, she only thought of him.
But when Joshua actually appeared before her eyes, Rosette couldn’t believe it was real.
“Joshua, is it really you?”
“Yes, it’s me.”
Even in his voice as he answered, there was undisguised joy and affection. Even after hearing his voice with both ears, she couldn’t quite grasp whether this was really reality.
Rosette buried her face in his neck and mumbled.
“I can’t believe it. Is it really you? It’s not like a mirage or something, is it?”
“It’s really me, Rose.”
Joshua stroked Rosette’s hair with an affectionate touch.
“Of course, I can’t believe that I’m meeting you like this either.”
“How could you come without any contact…”
“I wanted to surprise you. Like a surprise gift.”
Joshua’s demeanor, having resolved everything, was different from before. Before, he was often sharp and cynical, but now he exuded a sense of ease.
The way he was talking in a joking manner showed that was indeed the case.
“And there was no time to contact you. I wanted to see you as soon as possible, so I rushed here. Even if I had sent a message, I probably would have arrived later.”
“Still, if I had known you were coming, I would have prepared to welcome you.”
She would have worn her favorite clothes and gotten a makeover with Joan’s help.
She had already shown Joshua all sorts of unsightly appearances, but she still wanted to look pretty for him.
As if knowing her heart, Joshua hugged her even tighter and whispered in her ear.
“You always look beautiful in my eyes, no matter what you look like.”
Rosette’s cheeks flushed reddish.
“Saying things like that…”
“Rather, isn’t it fortunate that you didn’t dress up? If I had seen you all dressed up so beautifully, my heart might have stopped right then and there.”
Had Joshua ever expressed his affection so directly before?
He had respected Rosette’s opinion that she didn’t want to become empress and had refrained from expressing his affection to some extent. He had kissed her deeply before, but she didn’t remember him saying such embarrassing things.
“Your face is red, Rose.”
Joshua, who whispered teasingly with a laughing voice, pressed his lips against her hot cheek and then pulled away. Rosette’s face, as well as her neck and ears, were now dyed as red as a ripe tomato.
Joshua chuckled again at the sight.
During the past month, while Rosette was seriously reconsidering her relationship with Joshua, it seemed that he had also undergone many changes of heart.
‘I don’t dislike it.’
She already knew that she was loved through his eyes, expressions, and fleeting actions, but being directly expressed was a different feeling.
However, she couldn’t help but be embarrassed. Moreover, people were watching with great interest!
Rosette punched his shoulder with her fist out of embarrassment. Joshua chuckled and stepped back slightly, pretending to be pushed back by Rosette.
Rosette glared at him slightly. She didn’t know who he had learned it from, but Joshua seemed to have become a bit more playful, going beyond just being relaxed.
“Stop teasing me.”
“I wasn’t teasing you.”
“You’re doing it again.”
When Rosette pouted her lips while acting spoiled, Joshua kissed her lips, which were sticking out like a duck’s beak, with a smack.
Then, he scanned her body with his eyes wide open.
“So, how’s your body? I was so worried because you didn’t wake up for a week. I wanted to be by your side until you woke up, but I’m sorry I couldn’t.”
“It’s okay. Joshua just went to do what he had to do. And my body is fine. I don’t know what Father or Daniel told you, but I’m really fine.”
“Your hand?”
He carefully took Rosette’s injured hand and examined it.
The wound, which had been so large that she had to wrap her entire palm in bandages when she woke up, had now healed quite a bit.
However, it had not completely healed, so she was still receiving treatment.
“It’s almost healed.”
“Almost? So it’s not completely healed.”
“It’s as good as healed.”
“How is that completely healed?”
Joshua sighed.
“It’s been a month, and there’s still a scar like this. I shouldn’t have killed that guy so easily after all.”
Rosette, feeling Joshua’s momentum becoming fierce, quickly changed the subject.
“But what about Silver? Did you leave him at the Imperial Palace? I wanted to see him.”
“Ah.”
Joshua readily gave in to her.
“The road here was rough, so I temporarily canceled the summoning. I’ll summon him if you want.”
As he manipulated mana, Silver gradually appeared in front of Rosette.
“Silver!”
[Woof!]
Silver stood up on his hind legs and clung to Rosette. If Joshua hadn’t quickly supported her from behind, she would have fallen backward from the sudden impact.
[Woof woof! Woof!]
Silver licked Rosette’s cheek enthusiastically. She still couldn’t understand the wolf’s words, but she could tell that the wolf was very happy to see her.
“I missed you too, Silver. Bbi Bbi also wanted to see you. Come to think of it, where did Bbi Bbi go?”
[Bbit!]
Bbi Bbi, who had been watching from Lucas’s shoulder, flew over Silver’s head. With the reunion of the two familiars, it really felt like everything was over.
“There were so many things I wanted to say. Rose, I’m…”
It was when Joshua was about to speak again, tucking Rosette’s hair behind her ear.
“Wow, that’s nice!”
Lucas, who had been watching the two people’s reunion with his mouth wide open, suddenly came to his senses and clapped slowly.
It was closer to a sarcastic remark than a pure compliment.
“I know you’re happy to see the little one after a long time, Your Highness. But there are other people here too. Is it okay to be so openly affectionate when there are so many eyes watching?”
Duke Adrian and Daniel, who had been watching with satisfaction, burst into laughter. Isabel also bit her lip and suppressed her laughter.
“What’s wrong with it, Lucas? It’s just nice to see.”
Lucas snorted at Daniel’s words.
“It’s because I’m jealous, why! Everyone’s so hot and steamy even in this cold northern winter. Brother has Lady Livera, and Sister has Lord Roten, right?”
Lord Roten, who had been smiling brightly behind Joshua, waved his hands in embarrassment.
“Young Master, why are you suddenly bringing me up?”
“Lord Roten, are you really asking that because you don’t know?”
“Lucas.”
Isabel intervened and stopped him, but this time it didn’t work at all.
“Why? Isn’t it a fact that everyone knows now? Sister, tell me honestly. Lord Roten, do you know how worried Sister was about you when contact with the subjugation force was lost…? Ugh!”
Isabel, unusually flustered, quickly covered Lucas’s mouth. But everyone had already heard Lucas’s words.
Lord Roten, who had been trying to stop the two siblings because the atmosphere between them was unusual, froze like a broken machine at that one word. His beautifully tanned brown skin turned red.
Isabel quickly explained.
“Ignore Lucas’s words, Lord Roten. He’s usually just talking nonsense.”
Lord Roten looked blankly at Isabel, who was rambling, and asked.
“Were you very worried about me?”
“No, that’s…”
Isabel kicked Lucas hard in the shin, who was the cause of this situation, and continued.
“Isn’t it stranger not to worry? A cherished colleague went to a dangerous place and couldn’t be contacted, who wouldn’t be worried?”
“Ah, a cherished colleague… I see.”
Lord Roten’s expression became a little gloomy.
“That’s definitely true.”
“And.”
Isabel continued calmly.
“I also missed you. There were many things I wanted to say when you returned safely.”
Lord Roten’s eyes sparkled again with hope.
“What words…”
“Well, well. Let’s not do this here, everyone, and go up first.”
Duke Adrian clapped lightly and cut off the conversation. It was an act of consideration for the two people.
Certainly, it wasn’t something to be said publicly in the first-floor hall where even the employees were watching.
“Rose, and Isabel too. It would be better to have such conversations in private. We have plenty of time now.”
He led the people with a benevolent smile.
“How about we all have a cup of tea and chat, and then have dinner together? I think we can share stories after that. Don’t you think so?”
“I understand, Master.”
Joshua naturally escorted Rosette and followed the Duke, who was already going up the stairs. Lord Roten also hesitated for a moment before reaching out his hand to Isabel.
Daniel also quickly headed to the guest room, saying he was going to see Ines, who was resting.
Lucas sighed as he watched everyone pair up and leave.
“It’s just me left again.”
Then, he snapped at Bbi Bbi, who was riding on Silver’s head.
“Hey, chick. Why are you leaving? Come here.”
[Bbi? Bbit!]
Bbi Bbi raised its beak as much as possible and gripped Silver’s fur even tighter.
What are you saying? Just follow me without nagging, you idiot.
“Did you just call me an idiot again?”
[Bbit!]
Don’t like it.
Lucas sighed deeply as he watched Bbi Bbi, who didn’t even bother to respond anymore.
“Even that little bird is ignoring me now. Something’s wrong.”
He climbed the stairs alone, feeling lonely. He comforted himself, saying that life is originally lonely.
