212. Side Story 3 – The Long Night
May 30, 2024
Joshua, who usually chuckled at Rosette’s reactions, didn’t smile this time.
Instead, he knelt down in front of Rosette.
“Did you wait long?”
“No, time flew by as I was washing up and getting ready.”
‘Ready? What was she preparing for?’
Rosette, startled by her choice of words, bit her lip. Joshua, still without a smile, kissed the back of her hand.
“Finally, it’s just the two of us.”
“It is…”
It was awkward and embarrassing. Maybe it was her imagination, but the air around them felt warmer than before.
Rosette instinctively tightened her robe, which had slipped open, but Joshua took her hand.
“Are you very nervous?”
“To be honest, yes. I am nervous. But you don’t seem that nervous, Joshua.”
“Me? Do I really look like that?”
Joshua stood up and kissed her. He murmured, his lips still touching Rosette’s.
“I’m incredibly nervous. I’m just trying not to show it.”
“You don’t have to try so hard.”
Rosette recalled Joan’s advice and cupped Joshua’s cheeks.
“Joan said I don’t need to be nervous, just show you my feelings honestly.”
“Really? And what are your feelings?”
“I want to be with you. Actually, I felt good every time you kissed me. I was happy, too.”
“…”
“So, what I’m saying is, I want you too. Just like you want me.”
Joshua’s eyes wavered as he looked at Rosette. Rosette forced a smile.
“So, don’t be nervous either… Ugh!”
The moment Joshua’s lips met hers again, she felt like she was floating. Joshua’s body, pressed against hers without a gap, was hot as if he had a fever.
The longer the kiss lasted, the hotter Rosette’s body became.
When she finally regained her senses, Rosette was lying on the bed, looking up at Joshua. Joshua, who had taken off his shirt, his arms crossed, positioned himself above her.
His body, illuminated by the dim light, was truly beautiful. Rosette realized anew that a man’s body could be so beautiful.
Unconsciously, she lowered her gaze and observed Joshua’s body. Just a moment ago, she had been too embarrassed to look, but now, she couldn’t take her eyes off him.
It was as if she was completely captivated by Joshua.
As a magic swordsman, Joshua probably spent less time training his body than a regular knight, but his muscles were clearly defined.
Without realizing it, Rosette ran her fingertips down his deeply carved abs. Joshua, who was already breathing heavily, called her name in a hoarse voice.
“Rose, Rosette Ernhardt.”
He stroked Rosette’s spine over her clothes. It was a simple touch, but goosebumps erupted all over her body, and her toes curled.
Joshua settled between Rosette’s knees. Rosette was trapped by his solid body, unable to move.
“I won’t stop tonight.”
He lowered his head and pressed his lips to Rosette’s skin. She could feel his lips moving further and further down.
Usually, he would lift his lips near her collarbone as if regretting it, but as he said he wouldn’t stop, he didn’t give up.
His lips left red marks on Rosette’s white skin as he continued to move down. To places he had never touched before.
Rosette incessantly murmured Joshua’s name, clutching his hair tightly.
The night was long, and it was just the beginning.
* * *
Joshua looked down at Rosette in his arms and smiled faintly.
She must have been very tired, as she hadn’t woken up yet, even though the sun had been up for a long time.
Breakfast time had already passed. But Joshua didn’t bother to wake her, thinking it would be better to let Rosette sleep a little longer.
Until just now, he had been trying to sleep a little longer, feeling Rosette’s warmth, but he couldn’t fall asleep anymore.
Joshua gave up on sleeping and instead observed Rosette.
When he lightly kissed her forehead, she mumbled something incomprehensible and snuggled further into his arms. He felt a warmth in his heart.
Last night, even after Rosette fell asleep, Joshua couldn’t sleep for a while. To be exact, he was afraid to sleep.
He was so happy, but what if everything disappeared like a bubble when he woke up?
What if all of this was just a fantasy he had created, and he would return to those painful days when he opened his eyes?
To that living hell without Ophelia, Duke Adrian, or Daniel. Perhaps he would have to watch the execution of his beloved Rosette with his own eyes.
Even after he finally fell asleep, he woke up from time to time to check on Rosette. Each time, she was sleeping soundly in his arms, without a worry on her face.
Rosette would never know how grateful he was for that.
Joshua was about to kiss her hair again with affection when.
“…Shua?”
Rosette mumbled, her eyes not even fully open.
“What… What time is it…”
“It’s okay. Sleep well today.”
“Joshua too…”
“Yeah. I won’t go anywhere, I’ll be here.”
Only then did Rosette smile contentedly. That defenseless smile brought a surge of emotion once again.
Joshua couldn’t help but hug her tightly and whisper.
“I love you, Rose.”
“…”
“I love you more today than yesterday.”
He had thought that his love for Rosette was already so great that it couldn’t grow any bigger. But he was wrong.
This affection grew larger and larger with each passing day.
“Me too…”
Rosette barely raised her head and pecked Joshua’s chin.
“I love you too.”
“I love you more.”
Joshua closed his eyes and smiled.

“Ahboo, boo!”
Jake, who had followed Joan to find Rosette, took a brave step forward.
Rosette sat a little distance away from the child, watching anxiously with her arms open.
“Joan, are you sure it’s okay? What if he falls?”
“It’s okay. Children grow up falling. It’s not that the world collapses when they fall; they learn to get up and move forward.”
It had already been about half a year since Rosette married Joshua. In the meantime, Jake had grown quickly and had already passed his first birthday.
Perhaps inheriting the excellent sense of balance and courage of his knight father, Jake started walking quite early.
He wasn’t perfect yet, and he wobbled as if he was about to fall, but he walked bravely and hugged Rosette.
“Jyaa!”
Jake smiled brightly, showing his four adorable teeth, two on top and two on the bottom. Rosette showered Jake’s chubby cheeks with kisses.
“Jake has been looking for Your Highness a lot lately.”
“Really?”
“Yes. He calls Your Highness ‘Jyaa.’ He sings ‘Jyaa, Jyaa’ at home whenever he gets a chance.”
“I see.”
Rosette couldn’t hold back the overwhelming emotions and kissed the child’s cheeks again and again.
“If Joan is okay with it, I like Jake coming often. I feel good just looking at Jake.”
“I don’t know how happy I am that Your Highness loves him so much. Jake will surely remember receiving Your Highness’s love from a young age.”
“I hope so.”
Rosette held Jake, who didn’t want to let go, and sat at the table. Then, she chattered, watching Joan bring the refreshments.
“I saw Ed the other day, and he’s already grown a lot. He’s so cute.”
“That’s right. The youngest young master is really cute. Has it been a hundred days since he was born?”
Edward Adrian. Daniel’s son, born at the beginning of summer, and Rosette’s first nephew. A cute baby who resembled Daniel and Ines equally.
“Yes, it has.”
Rosette gave Jake a thinly sliced apple and stared blankly at her teacup for a moment.
“Your Highness?”
“…”
“Lady Rosette?”
“Huh?”
When Rosette belatedly raised her head, Joan was examining her complexion closely.
“I’ve been worried about you since earlier, are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
“Huh? No. I’m fine.”
“Perhaps you haven’t been sleeping well…”
“Ah, I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately. I don’t know why, but I can’t sleep deeply.”
“Have you told the doctor?”
“No. It’s just a little trouble sleeping, nothing more.”
Joan, holding Jake, who was reaching out to her, fell into thought.
“Perhaps you haven’t been digesting well lately, or feeling bloated?”
“Joan, you’re a mind reader. How did you know?”
Joan’s face became serious.
“Your Highness, I think you should get a checkup.”
Rosette’s expression, who was shaking Jake’s hand, also became serious.
“Is something wrong with me? But I’m fine other than feeling a little uncomfortable.”
“It’s not that something is wrong… I don’t think I should say anything rash, but let’s call the doctor first.”
Rosette inadvertently took Jake back. She heard Joan, who had hurried out of the room, giving instructions to the servant waiting outside.
“Please bring the imperial physician as soon as possible.”
“Yes, I understand.”
“And His Highness the Crown Prince too!”
The doctor is one thing, but why are they calling Joshua too?
Rosette was clueless and just blinked.
* * *
“What’s the problem?”
Joshua, who had been suddenly summoned, asked anxiously, looking at the doctor who had arrived before him.
“I haven’t heard that Rose is sick anywhere. She seems to have been having trouble sleeping lately, though.”
The doctor, who was carefully examining Rosette, opened his mouth solemnly.
“Your Highness, in my opinion…”
“Yes, what is it?”
“It seems that a little one has come to visit Your Highness and Lady Rosette.”
