Family Meaning (3)
Rosette didn’t smile this time. Instead, she widened her eyes and observed her family.
The pink hair suited them all quite well, especially Isabel, who looked like an angel in her white dress.
Rosette unconsciously touched her own hair.
‘Pink can be this pretty.’
And at the same time, she realized.
‘Everyone must have heard that I wanted to change my hair color.’
Perhaps her family, who cherished and loved her, had decided to change their hair color for Rosette.
‘It must have been a difficult decision.’
Once again, her heart bubbled up. It was needless to say, but she felt so loved every time this happened.
Daniel, seeing Rosette blushing, subtly asked.
“Do you feel like a family now?”
“……Yes.”
Rosette, unable to hide her embarrassment, tapped the floor with the toe of her shoe. Her throat felt ticklish.
Lucas chattered.
“You idiot! We’re family even if our hair colors are different! Right, Sis?”
“Well, yeah. Our late mother had brown hair, after all.”
“That’s right! If we’re not family because our hair colors are different, then isn’t our mom not family either?”
“But…….”
The deceased Duchess Adrian is family by blood.
Rosette, who was about to blurt that out, closed her mouth. She didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere by saying those words aloud.
Instead, she smiled brightly and said.
“That’s right! We are family.”
“That’s right!”
“I’m an Adrian too!”
“That’s right!”
Lucas got excited and grabbed Rosette’s pigtails, shaking them back and forth. Then, Isabel scolded him.
“But Dad, Sister, Brother, are you all going to keep living like that?”
Daniel smiled playfully.
“That’s what I’m thinking. Why? Don’t you like it? Is it not good?”
“No! It’s cool! Really! But…….”
Rosette mumbled.
“But I like it better when Dad, Sister, and Brother go back to platinum blonde.”
“Why?”
“Because that’s your original hair color. The original is much better.”
Daniel smiled and replied.
“We feel the same way, Rose.”
“The same way?”
“Yeah. We like you a lot as you are now. Your hair color is as pretty as a rose, and your face is cute too.”
“That’s right, that’s right!”
“I think so too.”
Lucas and Isabel chimed in, making Rosette even more embarrassed. She buried her face in her hands.
However, her red ears could not be hidden. The three siblings and Duke Adrian laughed out loud.
“Ugh, I won’t think about changing my hair color in the future.”
“Good! That’s the way to go, kiddo!”
“So, please all hurry back to platinum blonde.”
“Look up!”
When Rosette looked up at Lucas’s shout, she saw the four people who had returned to their original hair color.
‘As expected, that suits them better.’
Rosette smiled.
“And now that I think about it, I don’t think platinum blonde would suit me.”
Daniel chuckled.
“Our youngest would have looked pretty in platinum blonde too, but pink is prettier.”
Then he took her small hand and led her.
“Let’s have a meal.”
“Yes!”
Rosette followed Daniel to the table.
Each time, her fine pink hair fluttered gently.

“Father!”
It was an ordinary dinner time. Everyone was waiting for dessert when Lucas raised his hand, waiting for permission to speak.
He opened his mouth again after seeing Duke Adrian nod.
“I heard the youngest is good at studying.”
Isabel muttered cynically.
“Unlike someone.”
“Be quiet!”
Lucas glared at Isabel with a reddened face. Isabel shrugged her shoulders.
“I didn’t say anyone in particular. Why, does it sting?”
“Eek!”
“So, what do you want to say?”
Duke Adrian mediated. Lucas continued the words that had been cut off.
“So, I was wondering if we should give the youngest a reward?”
“A reward?”
“Yes! Like going out to Roam Street and buying a gift!”
Daniel smiled.
“It seems like it’s not Rose who wants to go to Roam Street, but you, Lucas.”
Lucas, caught out, scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
“Anyway, the youngest hasn’t been out properly until now, has she?”
“That’s true.”
Daniel nodded in agreement.
It had been about three months since Rosette came to the Adrian estate, but as Lucas said, she had never properly left the mansion. It was because the Adrian family members were so protective.
Interest in Rosette Adrian was still high in the capital. Duke Adrian was extremely reluctant to expose her to people, fearing that she might be harmed.
However, Rosette had no complaints because there were many things to see and do in the mansion.
But Lucas seemed to think differently. He was now starting to pester Rosette.
“How about it, kiddo? Don’t you want to go outside too?”
“I don’t really…….”
“What? Why? Of course, you should want to go!”
Rosette nodded, overwhelmed by Lucas’s enthusiasm.
“I, I want to go.”
“See! The youngest says she wants to go too. Huh?”
Duke Adrian looked back and forth between Lucas’s face, full of anticipation, and Rosette, who was slightly excited, and pondered.
‘It’s about time to let her out. Besides, if we’re just going to Roam Street for a short time, nothing will happen.’
He soon nodded.
“Okay, let’s do that.”
“Wow!”
Lucas was happier than Rosette.
“Kiddo, let’s do a lot of fun things when we go out!”
“Yes!”
Rosette got excited and answered.
That’s how Rosette’s official first outing date was set.
* * *
On the morning of the day they decided to go to the bustling Roam Street, Joan, who had washed Rosette, dressed her in a pink outing dress. It was a gift from Mrs. Wide [likely a family friend or seamstress] someday.
She wondered when she would wear this, but she finally got to wear it.
“Wow, Miss. You’re so pretty!”
Rosette looked in the mirror, listening to Joan’s exclamation. There was a pretty young lady standing there, even in her own eyes.
She was so amazed by her doll-like appearance that she spun around in place. Her pink hair and dress fluttered up into the air and then subsided.
Joan clapped her hands.
“Everyone will only look at you when you go out.”
“Aww, no way.”
“Really. Have you ever seen me lie? Then shall we go out since everyone is waiting?”
“Yes.”
When Rosette arrived at the first-floor hall, holding Joan’s hand, Daniel and Duke Adrian were talking with serious faces.
When Rosette asked Lucas with a look what was going on, he whispered back.
“Father had something come up.”
“Something?”
“Yeah, so we might not be able to go.”
“I see.”
Rosette didn’t show it, but she was a little sad. It was a waste of the outing dress she had dressed up in.
Soon, Daniel and Duke Adrian, who had finished talking, approached Rosette.
“I’m sorry, Rose. Something urgent came up for Dad, so I don’t think I’ll be able to go out.”
Duke Adrian was a father who put his children first. The fact that he had even prepared to go out and then suddenly canceled like this meant that something urgent had come up.
So, none of the four children showed any dissatisfaction. Only Lucas asked quietly.
“Then are we going later?”
He asked as if he was calm, but Lucas’s face was filled with deep regret.
Then Daniel smiled.
“If you guys are okay with it, how about we go without Father?”
“Just us?”
“Yeah. Father has also given permission. It’ll be safe if we take a few guards, and we’ve been out a few times just us. It’s just Rose who’s been added.”
“That’s right! We’ve already been out without Father! I’ll take good care of Rose!”
“What Brother says is right! I’ll listen to Brother and come back quietly!”
Duke Adrian finally relaxed his expression.
“Okay. Lucas, you have to take good care of Rose.”
“Of course!”
Following Lucas, Daniel added.
“I’ll take good care of the kids, so don’t worry.”
“Okay.”
Duke Adrian bent down and stroked Rosette’s hair.
“I’m sorry I can’t go with you. Instead, enjoy yourself as much as you want with your sister and brother.”
“Next time…….”
“Huh?”
Rosette plucked up her courage and whispered.
“Let’s go together next time. It’s a promise.”
She carefully held out her right pinky finger. Duke Adrian widened his eyes and then smiled, hooking his pinky finger with hers.
“Okay, I promise.”
* * *
To be honest, Rosette was very disappointed that Duke Adrian couldn’t go with her.
However, her heart soon melted like a marshmallow. It was because of the scenery of Roam Street seen through the carriage window.
“Wow.”
When Rosette admired the view out the window without realizing it, Lucas wore a proud expression.
“How is it, kiddo? Amazing, right?”
“Yes!”
“Cool, right?”
“Yes! Very!”
“Aren’t you grateful to me? I was the one who said let’s go out.”
Rosette, noticing the subtle nuance in his words, turned to look at Lucas. Lucas was looking at her with a face that wanted something.
After much deliberation, Rosette opened her mouth.
“Thank you, Lucas Oppa [Oppa is a term used by younger females to address older males]?”
Lucas coughed and avoided her gaze.
“Well, it’s nothing.”
Daniel smiled, and Isabel clicked her tongue.
Rosette, noticing their gazes, said once again.
“Thank you, Daniel Oppa, and Isabel Unnie [Unnie is a term used by younger females to address older females] too. I’m very happy thanks to my sister and brother.”
“Oppa is happy that you’re happy.”
“Well, I was going to take you out someday, so there’s no need to thank me.”
The answers that came back were also like them. Although the reactions were contrasting, Rosette knew that they both cared about her.
She smiled and then clung to the window again, observing the scenery outside.
‘It’s really cool!’
The ornately decorated buildings and the nobles walking around the streets. It was a sight she had never seen before, even combining her past and present lives.
When she was in the orphanage, she couldn’t even dare to come to such a bustling street, and even after being adopted into the Dallas family, she had mostly stayed in the mansion.
In the past, she had often envied Elisha, who said she had often shopped and played on Roam Street.
I wonder what will happen here. Rosette’s little heart was pounding.
