73. Elisha Dallas’s Fury
January 12, 2024
Elisha gritted her teeth, thinking about Rosette looking down at her a moment ago.
Her father, Marquis Dallas, had always emphasized this since she was younger than she was now.
-You will be the flower of high society. I will raise you to the highest position.
The highest position.
That meant one thing: he would make Elisha the Empress.
Currently, there were only a few high-ranking nobles of the right age to marry Joshua, the Emperor’s only child. Among the ducal families, there was only Isabel, and among the marquis families, there were Elisha and about two others.
Isabel was the most promising, but the Emperor was said to be displeased with her pursuing the path of a knight.
‘Then I might have a chance too.’
Even though she was from a marquis family, it wasn’t impossible if the Emperor was looking for a Crown Princess within the Empire.
Moreover, Marquis Dallas was somehow confident. He spoke as if Elisha would definitely become the Crown Princess unless there were any major unexpected events.
Elisha would listen to her father and imagine herself in the highest position.
But then Rosette appeared.
The youngest daughter of Duke Adrian, who, despite being of commoner origin, was deeply loved. Moreover, she was said to be skilled in magic, which caught the Emperor’s attention.
And that wasn’t all. She had already become a celebrity in high society for saving the Empress and several noble children in various accidents.
At this rate, it seemed like Rosette, not Elisha, would marry Joshua.
‘What’s so great about that kid?’
What made her even angrier was that her father, Marquis Dallas, kept showing interest in Rosette.
It had started five years ago when he encountered her on Roam Street.
Elisha still remembered what happened five years ago. That day, she had memorized all the magic formulas the Marquis had given her and received a gift as a reward.
While returning with her hands full of gifts, she ran into the Adrian siblings. That was when she first saw Rosette.
The pink-haired, skinny child didn’t look like a noble child at all. She was wearing a high-quality dress, but it didn’t suit her at all.
Elisha, who was secretly annoyed that Rosette was getting attention, ridiculed her.
She thought, ‘So what if she was chosen by Duke Adrian? She’s nothing special.’
Judging by her appearance, the rumors that the adopted youngest daughter was loved by the ducal family were just for show. It didn’t matter whether those lowly people had abilities or not. Adopting a shabby commoner was just a good deed to display, and it was obvious that they couldn’t be treated the same as the real Adrians.
But her father, Marquis Dallas, also showed interest in Rosette.
He told her to hold a tea party and invite that child, or to become close to her and be helpful to him.
Elisha said she understood, but she never invited Rosette even once.
The superficial reason was that she had ‘never met her before, so how could she invite her,’ but the truth was that she didn’t want to bring such a low-class child into her mansion.
But the Rosette she saw today had become a different person in just five years.
She had ignored her because she was a commoner, but Elisha was secretly surprised to see her exuding the air of a noble.
‘No way, how could that kid change so much in just five years…!’
She tried to find fault with the fact that her familiar [a magical creature bonded to a witch or wizard] was a mere parrotbill, but she was attacked in return.
How dare a commoner act like a real princess and crush her in the name of Adrian.
“Aaaargh! I don’t like it!”
Elisha, who was once again screaming hysterically, glared at the maid who was looking at her with a blank expression.
“What are you looking at? Are you looking down on me too?”
“No, Miss. I’m just….”
“Just what? Just what!”
It was the moment Elisha raised her right hand. The carriage, which had been slowly slowing down, came to a complete stop, and the voice of the escort knight was heard from outside.
“Miss, we have arrived.”
Elisha lowered her hand before the door opened and sat back in her seat.
She muttered ‘You, wait and see’ under her breath and got out of the carriage with the escort of the knight.
She occasionally acted out on her personal maid, but she had to appear as a kind and gentle young lady to everyone else.
Suppressing her anger, she entered the mansion, and the head butler approached her.
“Welcome, Miss. The master has been waiting for you.”
“Father?”
“Yes. Please go to his study.”
Elisha followed the butler and arrived at the study. As she entered, Marquis Dallas greeted her.
“Have you returned, Elisha?”
“Yes, Father.”
Elisha ran to him and sat on the Marquis’s lap, acting spoiled.
“You’re quite the character. Anyone would think you haven’t seen me in days. So, how was the tea party?”
“How could it be? It was just so-so. As expected of an ignorant knight family, they only prepared things that were below my standards.”
“Is that so?”
“I would never decorate it like that. I’ll throw a more splendid tea party next time and invite the children. I’ll show them what a real tea party is.”
“Alright. Good thinking.”
Elisha wiggled her feet back and forth and thought for a moment.
‘Should I tell him that I met that child?’
After a moment of hesitation, she carefully opened her mouth.
“I saw that child.”
“That child?”
“Rosette Adrian, I mean.”
Marquis Dallas’s eyes flashed.
“How was she?”
Elisha, not noticing her father’s expression, chattered on.
“She was just so-so.”
“Just so-so?”
“Do you know what her familiar said? She laughed at the other children, saying none of them were cool. What can you even use such a familiar for?”
“So, did you see the familiar?”
“No. I asked her to show me, but she never did. But I heard what kind of animal it is.”
Elisha chuckled.
“Well, it’s a parrotbill. A completely useless animal. I wonder if it can even fly properly.”
“I see, it must be nothing special.”
“Right? But do you know what that child said? She said her familiar is her friend and told me not to ignore it. It’s ridiculous. How can a familiar be a friend?”
“Indeed.”
The Marquis paused for a moment and said quietly.
“You should invite that Adrian young lady sometime.”
“Me?”
“You haven’t invited her all this time because you said you’ve never met her. Now that you’ve become acquainted, it would be okay to invite her.”
“But that child is…!”
“That child is?”
Elisha closed her mouth.
She wanted to tell him in detail how Rosette Adrian had ignored her, but her pride wouldn’t allow it.
In the end, she nodded.
“I understand. I’ll do that.”
“Alright, you can go now.”
“Yes.”
Elisha left the study and headed to her room, thinking about how to punish the personal maid who had laughed at her.
At that moment, someone approached her.
“Elisha.”
It was her older brother, Alex Dallas. He had come of age this year and, unlike Elisha, had no particular talent for magic.
Instead, he had been learning swordsmanship since he was young and was showing considerable skill with the sword.
“Brother!”
Elisha hugged him happily.
“Are you coming from sword practice?”
“Yes. The swordsmanship competition is coming up soon.”
“You’ll definitely win, Brother! I believe in you!”
“We’ll see.”
Alex muttered with his characteristic blank expression.
“Why? You’re an amazing knight!”
“Daniel Adrian is also said to be participating this time.”
“Daniel… Adrian?”
That Adrian again.
Elisha frowned and then smiled again.
“So what?”
“Because he’s an Adrian.”
“What about Adrian!”
Elisha shouted.
“You can definitely win! No, you have to win! I can’t stand that child looking down on me anymore!”
“That child?”
“It’s something! Anyway, you have to win. Got it?”
“Alright, I’ll do my best.”
Only after Elisha emphasized several times that he shouldn’t just do his best but do well did she let Alex go.

After returning from Clara’s tea party, peaceful time passed.
Rosette diligently finished the handkerchief she was making for Daniel, and also made ones for Lucas and Isabel.
‘I don’t want Lucas Oppa [term of endearment for older brother] to make fun of my embroidery even if it’s messy, but he’s still my brother. I just wanted to give one to Isabel Unnie [term of endearment for older sister].’
And after a while, the founding festival began, along with the swordsmanship competition. Daniel, who had been constantly sparring with knights, also participated in the preliminary rounds of the swordsmanship competition.
“Oppa [term of endearment for older brother], do well. I don’t think you’ll be eliminated in the preliminaries.”
“If it’s Hyung [term of respect for older brother], he can easily pass the preliminaries! I believe in you, Hyung [term of respect for older brother]!”
“Oppa [term of endearment for older brother], don’t get hurt and be careful.”
Daniel, who received different cheers from his three younger siblings, left for the arena, saying, “I’ll do well thanks to you guys.”
Although the audience could watch the preliminary rounds, the three Adrian children decided to only go to the finals for safety reasons. So, they couldn’t go to cheer for Daniel’s preliminary match.
With Daniel gone, the afternoon was even more boring.
“Hey, kid.”
Rosette was sitting at her desk reading a magic book when Lucas barged in.
He grimaced at the name of the book Rosette was reading.
“Doesn’t your head hurt when you read that stuff?”
Rosette retorted jokingly.
“Oppa [term of endearment for older brother], you don’t read books often, so your head hurts every time you look at one. You skipped class yesterday, didn’t you? Pipi told me everything. Mrs. Noir was looking for you everywhere.”
Lucas ruffled Rosette’s hair.
“Our little kid, you can say anything to your Oppa [term of endearment for older brother] now.”
“Ah, Oppa [term of endearment for older brother]! You’re messing up my hair!”
Lucas, smiling mischievously, fixed her hair and sat next to her. He leaned on the desk and asked.
“Don’t you want to go outside?”
“Outside?”
“Yeah. The founding festival is happening now. You’ve never been to see the founding festival before.”
Rosette showed interest. She closed the book and leaned on the desk like Lucas, facing him.
“What about Oppa [term of endearment for older brother]? Have you ever been to see the festival?”
“Yeah! Only once, but I went with Dad, Hyung [term of respect for older brother], and Nuna [term of endearment for older sister].”
Rosette’s eyes sparkled.
“I want to go!”
“Let’s go after the swordsmanship competition is over. Father will gladly allow it.”
“Really?”
“Yeah! Even if Father doesn’t allow it, I’ll somehow get permission.”
“Okay!”
Rosette was even more excited for the finals of the swordsmanship competition because of Lucas’s bold promise.
Another two weeks passed like that.
As expected, Daniel made it to the finals.
“It’s a natural result! Daniel Hyung [term of respect for older brother] is going to be a Sword Master soon, it would be weirder if he didn’t make it!”
Lucas was as happy as if he had made it to the finals himself.
“That’s not it. I was just lucky.”
“The swordsmanship competition isn’t child’s play, and you can’t just get there by luck. Oppa [term of endearment for older brother], too much humility is poison.”
“That’s right!”
Rosette clenched her fists and agreed with Isabel.
“Daniel Oppa [term of endearment for older brother] is amazing! He’s more handsome than any knight I’ve ever seen!”
Rosette, who had been muttering excitedly, belatedly noticed Duke Adrian’s reaction.
Only for a moment, but the Duke’s hand, which was eating soup, twitched.
“Of course, except for Dad. Dad is the most handsome.”
