New Talent (1)
On the way to Sujeong’s school.
The elementary school in Yeongjongdo is close enough to walk to. It’s only about a 2-minute walk from the apartment, and the sidewalks are well-maintained, so it’s not dangerous.
The reason my wife bought an apartment here in the first place was because of Sujeong’s school.
It’s been a while since I’ve held Sujeong’s hand and walked her to school.
As expected, my current focus is on reaching the 6th Circle [a high level of magical ability].
“Dad, is it okay to spend so much?”
“Are you talking about the Android project?”
“Yeah. If you want to mass-produce them, Dad needs to reach the 6th Circle.”
“That’s why I’ve been thinking so hard these days. How can I reach the 6th Circle?”
“Do you have any clues?”
“I don’t know.”
It was still a vague dream, without even a starting point.
If I could reach the 6th Circle, I felt like I could tackle bigger projects, but there were no indications of how to get there yet.
Sujeong handed me a copy of a section from the Juhaebon [a mystical text]. Of course, it was a copy.
“Sujeong has been doing some thinking.”
“Thinking?”
“The enlightenment in the Juhaebon is abstract, right? I interpreted it in my own way and added annotations, thinking it might mean something like this.”
“Oh ho.”
While I was burning the midnight oil to expand the business, Sujeong wasn’t just playing around.
She was absorbing legal knowledge even though she was just about to enter elementary school, and she was focusing on interpreting the Juhaebon in her spare time.
As expected of Sujeong.
[Reversing all the common sense I know.]
“Reversing common sense?”
“People believe that common sense is fact, but that’s not always the case.”
“Isn’t that right?”
“It’s the result of my research while flipping through the Juhaebon.”
“At this rate…”
Enlightenment might come suddenly one day.
Sujeong and I are still visiting the cemetery every night for training. Now that I’ve reached the 5th Circle, I can use more advanced magic and train more efficiently.
But something was still missing.
The vague stories in the Juhaebon were difficult for me to interpret, and above all, I couldn’t fully focus on it because of work.
But Sujeong came up with an interpretation at the perfect time.
“It’s becoming too much for Sujeong. I don’t know if it would be different if she had more life experience, but there’s a limit to what she can understand indirectly.”
“You’re right.”
“I don’t know if it will be different when Sujeong grows up, but it seems like Dad needs this insight right now.”
“Thank you.”
I stroke Sujeong’s head.
I felt like she had grown taller since starting elementary school. And her presence felt calmer, more mature.
Sujeong had already reached the 3rd Circle and had gained the insight to reach the 4th. If Sujeong were an adult, she would probably be at the same level as me. Perhaps that’s why her overall demeanor has changed so much.
Of course, she was still my daughter.
When we arrived in front of the school, Sujeong jumped up and kissed me on the forehead.
“I’ll be back!”
“Okay.”
There were some kids gathered in front of the school gate, and it looked like they were all waiting for Sujeong.
Boys and girls alike, they all surrounded Sujeong like guards when she arrived.
“Huh.”
I noticed it in kindergarten, but it seemed like she was reigning as queen in elementary school too. Well, there’s no way children could handle Sujeong, who even adults find challenging.
“But I’m already a parent. It feels strange.”
Could it be that I’m getting old too?
I haven’t had time to think about it until now.
Getting older… Sujeong growing up meant that Lisa and I were also getting older.
As they say, time flies.
“A little faster than I’d like. Fast enough to make me want to let go of everything.”
The business was just beginning.
If I work for about 10 more years, I might be able to build a large company.
When that time comes…
“I’ll be able to travel to my heart’s content with my wife.”
I could travel now. I had earned enough money to let go of everything.
But I was also a man, so I was greedy for the future.
I will work for exactly 10 years and then plan how to enjoy my life forever.
I go to work and sit down at my desk right away.
The uninhabited island project is now under construction without me having to worry about it.
Since funds are being invested, the development speed is definitely picking up.
Now there is no need to save money. I was going to put in more heavy equipment to finish the construction quickly.
“Next month or so.”
At this rate, I think I can start operating the uninhabited island next month or so.
I will produce kimchi [Korean fermented cabbage], salted seafood, and salt first. How about making a few more side dishes here?
The problem is securing raw materials, but I can import them directly.
Should I build a bigger port if possible?
My thoughts are going around in circles.
I was planning how to do what was best for the current situation.
Knock knock!
“Come in.”
“Boss! The classmate I told you about yesterday has arrived.”
“Oh ho, really?”
Yesterday, I talked to Lee Seul-gi about recruiting new talent.
And today, Lee Seul-gi was supposed to bring her. I heard she was assigned to the general affairs team.
The door opened and a beauty with a very affable impression came in.
I was hoping for a reliable man, but a beauty isn’t bad either. As my wife said, it will be necessary to do business.
She looks to be in her early 30s.
Even if she looks like that, she’s probably in her mid-30s. She looked to be the same age as me, or maybe a year older or younger.
She bowed 90 degrees and greeted me.
“Hello, CEO! It’s an honor to meet the CEO who will build the company!”
“Nice to meet you. Please sit down.”
She had a smiling face and distinct features.
She’s a Western-style beauty, but she’s wearing an Eastern mask [meaning she has a Western appearance but Eastern sensibilities].
At this point, she’s done a lot of self-management. Seeing that there’s not a single ounce of fat on her body, she must be putting a lot of effort into self-care.
“You seem to be very interested in beauty and health.”
“Oh my, how did you know?”
“Talent who doesn’t take care of themselves can be said to be a zero.”
“Hehe, then is the interview passed for now?”
“The interview starts now.”
“Ask me anything.”
A secretary brought coffee.
I already had coffee after the meal, but I felt like I needed to drink another cup of strong coffee to clear my head.
Swish!
I hand over the documents.
“You graduated from S University and are taking a doctoral course at KAIST [Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology]?”
“Yes.”
“But why did you join CL Retail? With this kind of spec, you could have applied to other companies.”
“To be exact, I entered through CL Group’s open recruitment. And I was assigned here. Until recently, CL Retail was also a large company.”
“It wasn’t your intention?”
“Now I think it was a good thing.”
“Why?”
“Because I got to meet the CEO!”
“…….”
I look at Lee Seul-gi.
She just smiled slyly.
I’m not a person who likes flattery very much, but generally, many people like lip service.
I guess this should be seen as a kind of social skill.
“Do you know what I want?”
“I heard you’re looking for a key player.”
“A key player.”
“To put it bluntly, you’re looking for talent who is close enough to that level and can take on significant work.”
“So, what about you? In a way, a faction will be formed, and you will be the core axis. Do I meet your standards?”
“I see that you have excellent skills and will dominate the business world in the future. You have boldness, technical skills, and the ability to recognize people.”
“You’re saying very sweet things.”
“Because it’s true. Isn’t that why the H Group became your backing?”
While gently praising the other person, she was accurately grasping the facts.
She is indeed a talent that Lee Seul-gi would recommend.
“Good. So you mean you want to work with me.”
“Of course.”
“Then I can test you?”
“I can do any job perfectly!”
“Okay, then.”
I handed over a document.
[Haejin Lunch Box M&A Project]
“You’re considering an M&A [Mergers and Acquisitions]. Should I assist you?”
“No. Take the lead.”
“……!”
“I’ll give you full authority, so analyze the company and negotiate appropriately.”
“Me, full authority?”
“Yes.”
“I just met you for the first time…….”
“It’s not because I trust someone I’m meeting for the first time. It’s because Director Lee Seul-gi, who is like my right-hand person, recommended you.”
Han Yu-ram looked at me with new eyes.
Of course, so did Lee Seul-gi.
Yesterday, she swore allegiance and came under my command, but she didn’t think that I would trust her and give Han Yu-ram this big job.
“Director Lee has a lot of work to do, so please take care of it.”
“Uh…….”
“I’m giving you full authority. There’s also a power of attorney. Just write Yu-ram’s personal information here.”
“Th, thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Han Yu-ram gets up from her seat with a dazed face.
It was a level of shock beyond surprise.
Well, M&A deals don’t involve just a penny or two, and giving full authority just because you trust Lee Seul-gi is something she couldn’t understand with her common sense.
‘Chairman Lee Kang-no emphasizes people management, so should I trust that belief? It’s old-fashioned, but.’
Click!
Han Yu-ram and Lee Seul-gi left the CEO’s office with dazed faces.
Even Lee Seul-gi didn’t know that things would proceed like this.
“Is this really… a power of attorney?”
“Yeah.”
“What on earth does the CEO trust me for?”
“I told you earlier. He trusts me.”
Lee Seul-gi stretched her shoulders.
It was the first time she had received this level of trust from someone, so her emotions were indescribable.
But apart from that, she felt empowered.
“You’re getting a lot of trust?”
“I told you.”
“I didn’t know it would be this much. Your relationship with the CEO is suspicious? Maybe you’re his mistress…?”
“The CEO is single-minded. Unless you’re as beautiful as the Madam, you can’t even try.”
“Madam?”
“You’ll be surprised later.”
“The Madam is that beautiful?”
“The kids are pretty and geniuses too. A baby who’s just over a year old can talk.”
“……Hehe, that sounds fun?”
Han Yu-ram left behind an unknown remark.
Lee Seul-gi was about to say something to her, but she stopped. She acts like she’s missing a screw somewhere, but Han Yu-ram is definitely reliable when it comes to handling work.
