Negotiation (1)
Outside Washington, D.C.
Secretary of Defense, Million Maxon, received a direct call from Director Katherine and struggled with what to do.
The President had disappeared last night.
It was almost certain that he had been kidnapped, and the military was mobilized.
Maxon tried to take command himself, but due to strong recommendations from the military, he was practically confined to his location.
And just now, Katherine called again, recommending that he move to the bunker.
If he moved to the bunker, the perpetrators wouldn’t be able to kidnap the secretaries.
Million Maxon rises from his seat.
It seemed the enemies were trying to completely dismantle the Carter administration. If he, as a secretary, were to fall here, it would be problematic.
“Max. Come in.”
-Yes, sir.
It was Lieutenant General Max, the head of defense.
Seeing a lieutenant general-level officer in charge was enough to realize how serious the situation was.
“Have you found them?”
Soon, Lieutenant General Max enters.
The outside was swarming with soldiers. Even so, he was uneasy. His judgment was that staying here meant a very high chance of being kidnapped.
“We’re going to the bunker.”
“But Secretary, moving now could be dangerous. We’ve tightened security thoroughly, so wouldn’t it be better to stay at your residence?”
“I don’t think so. The secretaries should move to the White House bunker if possible.”
“Um… is that an order?”
“It is an order.”
Max saluted.
Soldiers have no choice but to follow orders. Obedience to superiors was the most important virtue demanded in the military.
“Understood. We’ll move immediately.”
Maxon began to move under heavy guard.
With helicopters and over ten vehicles following, and even armored cars mobilized, there was no way a kidnapping could occur en route.
As long as the military was determined to protect the secretary, even if Russia sent special forces, they wouldn’t be able to stop it.
Special forces weren’t only in Russia, after all.
Navy SEALs were thoroughly providing security, and a significant number of White House security personnel were also deployed here.
A joint operation by the military, police, and White House had begun.
The vehicle he was in was bulletproof. Unless a missile came flying and knocked the vehicle away, it couldn’t even be scratched.
The vehicle suddenly stops.
“What’s wrong!?”
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
“Something’s coming!”
Kuaaaang!
An explosion even occurred.
What on earth was going on in the middle of Washington?
To attempt a kidnapping with such thorough security? It was impossible.
Something fell on top of the vehicle.
Thump!
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
Even at that moment, bullets seemed to be pouring from the assailant.
At this point, they would be dead. But that was just Maxon’s delusion.
Crack!
The vehicle’s roof was being torn apart.
Lieutenant General Max stared at the scene as if he couldn’t understand it.
He saw long fingernails tearing through the roof. They were wearing masks, so he couldn’t recognize their faces, but they had slender physiques.
“A bulletproof vehicle so easily…”
Click!
Lieutenant General Max immediately aimed his pistol.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
But the bullets bounced off.
Was it made of special cloth? A white membrane seemed to be created, deflecting the bullets.
“What is this!”
Secretary Maxon was pulled straight out of the vehicle.
Lieutenant General Max tried to stop them somehow, but he was no match for the assailant. A monster that didn’t die even when shot.
No, it should be seen as a monster that bullets couldn’t even penetrate.
The monster flew into the sky.
“Cease fire! Cease fire!”
Lieutenant General Max came out and waved his arms.
If they took action now, they would lose the Secretary of Defense.
The enemy had literally appeared out in the open, torn apart the bulletproof vehicle, and kidnapped the secretary. It was a monster that even rocket launchers couldn’t penetrate, and its strength was immense.
That wasn’t human.
“An android… Could Director Katherine have been right!”
Max had a look of despair.
If such monsters were投入 [thrown] into battle, the entire landscape of this world would undoubtedly change.
Deep night.
Breaking through the silence, the radio in Katherine’s vehicle continues to ring.
-The Secretary of Defense has been kidnapped!
“What!?”
She felt wide awake.
What should she do now? She was already having trouble sleeping because she was so worried. She had ignored her subordinates’ recommendations to get at least a few hours of sleep.
But hearing the news that the secretary had been kidnapped made her fatigue disappear and her heart start racing.
Chairman Lee Yoosung’s words came to mind.
The threat to kidnap not only the President but also the secretaries of each department to paralyze the government.
She thought it was just nonsense, but in reality, the President had been kidnapped, and she was hearing reports that the secretaries were being kidnapped one after another.
-The Secretary of State, the Secretary of Commerce, the Secretary of Agriculture, the Secretary of Energy, and the Attorney General have been kidnapped!
“…….”
Nothing was surprising anymore.
Chairman Lee Yoosung’s bluff to kidnap all the secretaries of the central government was now being realized.
-And…….
Silence coming from the radio.
What on earth were they hesitating to say?
With the secretaries of each department being kidnapped one after another, what more surprising could there be? But there was more surprising news left.
-The President of Russia and the secretaries of each department have all been kidnapped, too.
“……!”
Katherine was able to realize something.
She must not antagonize Chairman Lee Yoosung. That would bring disaster.
He was a person who kidnapped the heads of state as if he were grabbing them right in front of his eyes, so what would happen if he had bad intentions?
The governors of each state would certainly be easier to kidnap than the President.
If he were to capture them all or even carry out acts of sabotage.
A terrible thing would happen.
What she could do became clear.
It was not negotiation, but the fact that she had no choice but to follow Chairman Lee Yoosung’s words.
Early morning.
It was Saturday morning today, and she could finally rest peacefully.
She even skipped training yesterday.
Soojung said that she should rest when she needed to, and with the CIA swarming around, it was difficult to go out somewhere and train.
Because of that, she just slept.
She slept soundly for the first time in a while, and when morning came, she woke up naturally and was chopping firewood outside.
Thwack!
The firewood is mercilessly split.
She hadn’t done any separate exercise since learning black magic.
She trained in black mana every day, but despite not doing any physical exercise, she was able to maintain a perfect physical condition.
In the past, if she had chopped firewood like this, she would have been bedridden for days.
“Are you there?”
Katherine came early in the morning.
Was she already surrendering?
I thought they would struggle a little more. At the very least, they would put pressure on the Korean government or even be willing to go to war.
But were they trying to resolve the situation through dialogue now?
Soojung’s words from yesterday came to mind.
‘If Dad had bad intentions, what would happen? It wouldn’t be a big deal for a city to be destroyed.’
That’s right.
He didn’t use his power for slaughter, but if he set his mind to it, there was nothing he couldn’t do.
It would even be possible for bombs to fall on New York or Washington.
Katherine, realizing that power, must have broken her will to resist.
“You’ve come early?”
“Chairman. Please, I beg you.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about?”
“Please return our President and secretaries.”
“Ah, what are you talking about now.”
“I’m not recording anything.”
I directly injected the voice into her head.
A voice transmission message, which requires considerable magic power, but if I admitted it now, there could be enormous repercussions.
Katherine said she wasn’t recording now, and it didn’t seem like she would, but it was better to be careful.
-I told you. I’ll show you the power.
“……!”
Thwack!
Crack!
I was simply chopping firewood, and Katherine was panicking as she heard the voice in her head.
She probably thinks this is a high-level technique too.
“I’ll do anything!”
“I don’t know why you’re doing this.”
-Lower tariffs, fines, write a confession, and a letter of apology.
“Gasp. A letter of apology…….”
-The President will be contacting you soon. Then discuss it with him.”
I straightened my back.
That was enough.
Lowering tariffs will make it easier to expand the business in the future.
I’ll have to present those conditions to Russia too.
I can pass that problem on to Katherine. To negotiate with Russia on her own and bring me the results.
Katherine was looking at the artificial lake.
It was a complete defeat.
Challenging Chairman Lee Yoosung was nothing more than hitting a rock with an egg [a futile endeavor].
She couldn’t predict what would happen if she provoked Chairman Lee Yoosung any further. Not only her life but also the US government would be completely paralyzed.
Chairman Lee Yoosung was a person who could bring about great chaos.
Thinking that made her body tremble.
Beeep!
A call came in with a restricted caller ID.
Chairman Lee Yoosung’s words came to mind.
The President will be calling soon.
“This is Director Katherine.”
-Katherine! Is that you?
“Mr. President!”
-I heard you can save us, is that true!?
“I think so.”
-Do whatever that person wants!
“You have to write a letter of apology, would that be okay?”
-I’ll do anything!
John Carter must have been terrified too.
He seemed to realize that a huge incident would occur if he provoked Lee Yoosung here.
The best policy was not to touch such a person.
John Carter, who had a strong sense of pride, was willing to write a letter of apology.
Well, Katherine thought there was nothing she could do in the current situation either.
Lee Yoosung seemed to be using something that transcended science. Considering everything that had happened so far, it was reasonable to think so.
Katherine gets up from her seat.
Now, Chairman Lee Yoosung was stacking firewood and preparing breakfast.
Seeing the pile of ramen packets, it seemed like he was going to have ramen for breakfast.
“Chairman.”
“Director Katherine. Would you like some ramen?”
“Ah, yes. If you’re offering.”
Where should she start and how should she bring it up?
She got up and bowed. This is how you apologize in Korea. There was a saying, ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do’ [adapt to the customs of wherever you are]. An American-style apology would rather provoke displeasure.
“I’m sorry! I will not have any impure thoughts in the future! This is an apology on behalf of the United States! I will do anything for it!”
-Are you accepting the previous conditions?
“Yes!”
Someone might think she was crazy if they saw her. But Katherine didn’t care.
The person she had to pay the most attention to and cooperate with in the future was none other than Chairman Lee Yoosung. It was certain that the world’s situation would change depending on whether he intervened or not.
-Good. I accept the conditions.
