Transfer of Rights (2)
I returned from my walk at 8 AM.
Soon, the family would all be waking up.
Shall I show off my skills for once?
A man should be able to cook something for his family on a day off to earn some love. And as a former chef, I had a complete grasp of Korean cuisine.
I also knew how to make some fusion dishes.
Vongole pasta with kimchi.
I researched it a lot in the past, and after repeated failures, I finally perfected it. And the response was unexpectedly good.
My wife liked it, and Sujeong ate it well, so it’s not a bad choice.
Chop chop chop!
I quickly prepared the ingredients.
The key to vongole pasta is how to create the smoky flavor.
Some restaurants don’t add the smoky flavor, but then the taste doesn’t come alive. True vongole pasta requires a spectacular fire show.
Whoosh!
I set the vegetables on fire and stir-fried them before pouring in the broth.
The kimchi is completely washed, stir-fried once, and then added. The important thing here is to give the kimchi a smoky flavor as well.
The noodles are cooked, so now all that’s left is to stir-fry.
I’ll have to do that when the family wakes up.
Looking at the clock, it’s 9 AM.
I’ve been resting from cooking for so long that an hour quickly passed just making this much.
Bzzzz!
A phone call comes from somewhere.
It was an unknown number, but when I answered, it was a lawyer.
-Hello, Chairman. I’m calling from the law firm that will be handling the Seunghan matter.
“Has it already been processed?”
-Of course not. It will take a few days. There are procedures involved. James, the general manager of Lion Group, has placed the request.
“Huh. I just mentioned it this morning.”
-And he placed the request right away and went to sleep, it seems. Anyway, since we’re in charge, if you two could visit the company today, we can transfer the rights within a few days and contact you.
“Are there any particular problems?”
-If the rights were transferred to someone else, there might be some issues, but since you’re a married couple, there are no problems. It’s for business reasons, so the cause is clear.
“That’s a relief.”
-Will you be visiting today?
“I will. I’ll go in the morning.”
-We’ll be waiting. I’ll send you the office location by text.
After hanging up, I realized how quickly James handles things.
Perhaps they would start processing it in England from tomorrow, but preparing here first would speed up the process.
I don’t know if he’s being considerate or if he’s afraid I’ll forget.
When I came out to the kitchen after hanging up, the family was all awake.
“Honey, you woke up early.”
“Sit down. I made kimchi pasta for once today.”
“You didn’t have to.”
“What do you mean? You have to let me make one meal on a day off. If there’s nothing urgent, that is.”
“Then shall we indulge today?”
“Wow! Kimchi pasta!”
It’s a dish the kids like.
I made it for Sua once, and she completely emptied her plate.
We had breakfast with the family and decided to prepare in the morning.
Late spring with very warm weather.
A picnic is perfect for a day like today.
Since we have to stop by the law firm, we decided to go on a family picnic.
S Law Firm in Jung-gu, Incheon.
This law firm, one of the top in Korea, had its headquarters in Seoul.
As the name suggests, it was also a law firm that managed part of the S Group and boasted a high success rate.
Of course, the work I was going to do didn’t have much to do with the success rate, as it wasn’t a difficult task as long as I obtained permission from the British government.
People were out in front of the law firm.
They were people who had come directly to Incheon on a business trip early in the morning.
Manager Oh Se-chan, who had called earlier, greeted us.
“Welcome! I’m Oh Se-chan, in charge of international civil affairs. Thank you for visiting our law firm.”
Kindness was evident.
Indeed, there were so many lawyers these days that there was even a saying that you would starve to death if you didn’t do sales.
Unlike the authoritative past, the image was more like a salesperson.
“I’m Lee Yoosung.”
“You recently acquired M Group and will soon be starting the Android business…….”
“My stock price has gone up these days.”
“You’re amazing. Those who will be the pillars of the Korean economy are different.”
His tongue rolls smoothly [He’s a smooth talker].
Has the era come when lawyers can’t survive unless they flatter?
Anyway, being kind was a hundred times better than being unkind.
Oh Se-chan didn’t spare any praise for Lisa’s appearance as we went up.
“When I first saw the Madam, I thought an angel had descended. Ah, since you’re British, I should say an angel, not a fairy. The daughters are so lovely that even baby angels would be jealous. I’m envious.”
“Hahaha! If I had to pick the most important thing in a man’s life, it would be marriage. What you do may decline depending on luck, but your wife is the one person for life, isn’t she?”
“That’s right.”
In this era where the divorce rate exceeds 50%, even bullshit wouldn’t sound this convincing to a lawyer. But I was a person with great potential to become a big shot, so Oh Se-chan nodded repeatedly, showing affirmation.
It seemed like he talked about my wife and daughters for a long time.
Sujeong yawned.
“Ughahaam! How long are you going to brag?”
“Huh? Did I do that?”
“Seriously, you’re such a show-off.”
“Oh my, look at the time. Let’s get this done quickly.”
“No, I didn’t even realize the time was passing.”
Bullshit.
You could clearly see that he was barely holding back while listening.
Still, he responds with a smile until the end, so this level of service is worth using a few times.
The procedure was simple.
Just give your ID and stamp the power of attorney, and that’s it.
After copying the ID, they returned it.
“Once the British government approves, the documents will be faxed immediately. All you have to do is have it notarized here.”
“That’s simple?”
“That’s because this right is also seen as a kind of joint property of the couple.”
Detailed explanations were omitted.
After completing all the procedures, the lawyer brings up the main point.
“I’m concerned that someone who does such great work doesn’t have a law firm.”
“A law firm? I know some people.”
“If you run a company of this size, you’ll need someone who can provide professional legal advice. Our S Law Firm has excellent talent.”
I shrugged my shoulders.
“My child is a legal expert.”
“……Yes?”
“They say she memorized the entire legal code, so you can ask my daughter.”
“…….”
He gave a slightly dumbfounded expression.
Memorizing the entire legal code.
Looking at Sujeong’s age, she’s definitely in the lower grades of elementary school, so he thought that was nonsense.
“Ah, but I’ll consider it. There’s experience in everything.”
“Yes, yes. That’s right.”
He didn’t seem to take my words very seriously.
He thought I was just a common show-off dad who was severely mistaken about his daughter and bragging.
I finished everything and left the law firm.
“……It’s true, though.”
I could only mutter that.
I went on a picnic to Ganghwa Island near Incheon for the first time in a while.
I spread out a mat on the beach and rented a parasol.
It’s late spring now.
Soon, the beaches will start to open, and some stores have already opened. Energetic students in their 20s are already swimming.
The children are running around on the beach.
They were building sandcastles, and the sisters were playing very well together.
Then, as if some competition had started, they began to carve the sand in detail.
As the huge pile of sand, firmly packed together, was carved away, a beautiful medieval castle began to appear.
“Hmm?”
“Oh my?”
The sisters became competitive.
I didn’t know that Sujeong and Sua had a talent for art.
But if you think about it a little, it’s easy to see.
The two geniuses understood the principles of art.
That wouldn’t be too difficult for the children. They would sketch and carve as if they were looking at a picture in their heads.
Of course, you couldn’t make a castle of that level without dexterity.
It was made of sand, but it felt like an ice castle.
It was already transforming into a work of art.
I had a reasonable suspicion(?).
“Did you have any artistic talent?”
“I definitely had a talent for music. But I’ve never studied art.”
“Do you know the basic principles?”
“I just studied it in art class when I was in school.”
“But you can make a castle of that level…….”
Many people were gathering around the children.
It was almost summer, and it was the weekend, so many people had come out for a picnic.
They were watching because pretty girls were making sandcastles as they passed by.
In particular, the surprise at Sua was great.
“She doesn’t even look two years old, but she’s at that level. Is she a genius of art?”
“No, more than that, how can the kids be so pretty? Are they child actors?”
I could hear people’s envious words.
I couldn’t stop my mouth from gaping open.
The children’s figures were about to disappear because they were hidden by people, so I had no choice but to approach the children.
“What are you doing, kids?”
“…….”
The children couldn’t hear me at all.
It was impossible not to be amazed by their great concentration. It was clear that they couldn’t hear anything I said right now.
In addition, people recognized me.
“Isn’t that Chairman Lee Yoosung?”
“I think so? I saw him on TV, and I heard his wife is British royalty.”
“That wife was also quite beautiful……. Wow!”
It was Lisa’s appearance.
The surroundings were in an uproar.
“Kids, why are you working so hard?”
Lisa touched the children’s heads.
Sua didn’t even look at Lisa and said.
“My sister scratched my pride, so I couldn’t help it!”
“Hmph! When did I ever?”
“You said that sandcastles are in the field of art and that a kid like me can’t make them, right? Hmph! Sua is not a baby anymore!”
“Huh.”
“What kind of kid is that…….”
Usually, they start saying mom and dad around one year old.
They should be able to speak by the age of 3, but Sua is not even two years old yet. Nevertheless, she fluently spoke and even rebuked her sister with emotion. Can that really be seen as the appearance of an infant?
It was the appearance of a genius to anyone who saw it.
“I heard the two daughters are geniuses.”
“That’s exactly right.”
I couldn’t deny that far either.
Watching them make the castle for a long time. Our couple had no choice but to join in and watch.
Seeing the kids grow up makes me feel the impermanence of time.
“I guess that means we’re getting older too.”
That time cannot be stopped.
I was still in my mid-30s, but I wished time would stop right now.
