Poison (1)
He was brimming with energy.
Well, he’d been preparing for ten years and finally met an investor who recognized his work. It was only natural that his motivation would surge.
“Then, let’s move on to the next item on the agenda.”
“So, we’ll entrust that part to writer George, and Secretary Lee?”
“Yes, Chairman.”
“Make sure to provide writer George with all the support he needs.”
“I’ll contact Secretary Han right away.”
The company, without Lee Seulgi, is practically managed by Han Yuram.
She’s probably buried under a mountain of documents and on the verge of a breakdown by now. But there’s nothing I can do about it.
I’ve assigned a succubus to Han Yuram as well, so she should be able to manage somehow. Adding one more task to her workload shouldn’t be a big problem.
Then, I decided to bring up the director again.
“President, was the director who filmed ‘The Emperor’s Bracelet’ ten years ago Ron Angelas?”
“That’s right. Director Ron was already well-known, but he became a star overnight after releasing ‘The Emperor’s Bracelet’.”
“I’d like to entrust this project to him.”
“Hmm.”
“Is he currently filming a project?”
“Not currently, but he’s busy casting actors and securing investments for his next project.”
“Can we meet him?”
“He might not agree to take on the project right away because he has a project in development.”
“I’ll take care of that.”
I still want him to continue the series.
Famous works sometimes continue with a different director, but that often makes the unique feel disappear.
There are some series that have succeeded with a different director, but far more that haven’t.
Especially since ‘The Emperor’s Bracelet’ led to enormous success ten years ago.
So, I hope we can entrust it to Director Ron if possible.
“He’s scheduled to come to the company today, so I can’t stop you from meeting him.”
“President, you don’t mind Director Ron taking on this project, do you?”
“Of course not. It’s good for me if the project does well.”
If the project is a hit, the president will naturally get a bonus.
From Garcia’s point of view, there was no reason to object. However, he didn’t seem confident that Director Ron would accept the project.
Not long after, the president received a call.
“He’s arrived? Tell him to escort the chairman to the director’s office right away.”
Garcia hung up the phone.
He looked at me.
“Director Ron has arrived.”
“I understand. Let’s go.”
“My secretary will guide you.”
“Then, I’ll see you next time.”
I shook hands with Garcia.
His eyes were filled with anticipation.
He had been worried about the ‘Doctor Lynn’ series recently, but he thought that this large-scale investment might stabilize the company’s finances at once.
“Please take good care of us in the future.”
“I’ll do my best.”
Since I’ve taken on the project, I’ll provide as much support as possible.
The original purpose was just to raise an army of 100,000 and form an invasion force, but making a good movie isn’t a bad thing either.
I had a lot of work to do, and I would be acquiring countless companies in the future. So, I had to take care of things while I was in the United States.
I didn’t know when I would be able to pay attention to it again after that.
I’ll provide as much support as possible while I can. That way, the film company won’t collapse and can operate normally.
After Chairman Lee Yoosung left,
Garcia Parker collapsed in his chair.
“President, are you okay?”
Richel, his chief secretary, brought him water.
Garcia drank a cup of cold water.
“100,000 extras.”
“What on earth is he thinking? It won’t even break even.”
“In terms of labor costs, yes. They have to wear heavy armor and have some knowledge and practice of medieval warfare, and even if it’s just $100 a day, that’s $10 million a day. Do you know how enormous this cost is? We also have to make weapons and armor, and the food and snacks for those people, and the stuntmen. It’s astronomical.”
“Wouldn’t those costs be incurred?”
“Except for the cost of making weapons and armor, we shouldn’t have to pay labor costs. Because they’ll be androids.”
“That’s enough to start a war.”
“That’s not the purpose.”
“Then why is Chairman Lee Yoosung pouring so much money into it?”
“A hobby…?”
“Come on, does that make sense?”
“I can’t see it as anything more than a hobby. Rich people always have strange hobbies. Maybe this investment is also from a hobby.”
“If he acquired our company as a hobby, then a true eccentric is born.”
“What does it matter if it’s a hobby? If we can save the company that way, I’m willing to go along with it.”
It was doing a good job for a hobby.
Garcia couldn’t imagine how big of a reaction this work would cause when it was released.
Director Ron Angelas’s office.
Originally, directors move around a lot of companies. There were many freelance directors, and they were originally free spirits.
Of course, unlike those perceptions, there were also directors who worked for one company for a long time.
The company pays a salary in addition to the allowance to keep famous directors. This salary was purely for retaining the director.
20th Century Fox also had many affiliated directors, one of the most famous of whom was Ron Angelas.
He had ruined some works, but most of them were successful, building his reputation. He was still preparing for his next project.
Will Ron, who is known for his strong pride, take on this project?
I hope he will if possible.
Knock knock!
“Come in.”
Director Ron was doing something frantically.
Even a director couldn’t avoid paperwork. Besides, the script and various equipment were scattered around the office, making it quite cluttered.
Ron gets up from his seat when he sees me.
“Welcome. I heard the news that you acquired our company.”
Dark circles, big glasses, and a slightly chubby build.
I couldn’t tell when he had last washed his hair, and I could only guess that he was buried in his work.
It’s not the most appealing image, but I can’t judge.
I shook hands with Ron.
“I always enjoy watching your works. You became even more famous after the ‘Starwalk’ series became a hit last time.”
“You’re too kind. I’m still far from it.”
A director in his late 50s who works energetically.
Wouldn’t you say that he’s reached his peak as a film director at that age?
Ron recognized George Hart.
“Huh?”
“It’s been a while.”
“Writer! Where have you been hiding!?”
Ron grabbed George’s hand and shook it wildly.
Now that George Hart has transformed into a neat appearance, he might be reluctant to shake hands with Director Ron, who is covered in who-knows-what. But they were kindred spirits and had no hesitation in shaking hands.
“How have you been?”
“Oh, I’ve never stopped thinking about the Emperor’s Bracelet. It could have been a series that continued for generations.”
“Hehe. What can I do? The original author ended the novel there, so the rest is up to me to make up.”
“We certainly have the rights.”
“I’ve completed a work that deals with the aftermath 200 years later.”
“Oh!”
Director Ron and George were like meeting a friend after a decade apart.
I think I was worried for nothing.
Because he was a director with a strong pride, I thought he might finish what he was doing now or refuse.
But when he saw George, he had a look on his face as if he had gained the whole world.
“Here’s the manuscript.”
“Let’s see!”
Ron had an expectant look on his face.
Two masters met, and Lee Seulgi and I were just busy looking around.
I acquired the film company, but I didn’t know anything about movies. All I do is connect the masters and invest.
Ron puts down everything he was doing and focuses on reading the synopsis.
“The Bracelet Expedition!”
“It’s planned as a trilogy. How is it?”
“I don’t know because I haven’t read the manuscript, but since I’ve suffered for 10 years, I think it’ll be a great epic. Looking at the contents roughly, I think it can be made into a 5-part series, not a trilogy?”
“Well, that’s up to the director.”
“Iyah, a very good work will come out.”
“……”
How is this going?
I could use native English to some extent, and so could Lee Seulgi. But I couldn’t understand what they were saying. [They are speaking with industry jargon and excitement.]
“When is production?”
The director asks about the production date.
I shrugged my shoulders.
“We’re currently building the set, and we can start filming as early as a few weeks. I’ve decided to personally invest a generous $1 billion in production costs.”
“$1 billion! And 100,000 androids are mobilized as extras!?”
“Yes.”
“Then we need to cast the actors right away.”
“So, are you going to do it?”
“What are you talking about? I saw this work, how can I not film it!?”
“But you should read the script……”
“I’ve been in this industry for 30 years, and I know how it’ll turn out just by looking at the synopsis. It’s not like I don’t know writer George.”
“Oh, really.”
“Please let me take it!”
That’s what I wanted.
“Ah, yes. I’ll tell the president.”
“Well, I’ll talk to writer George.”
It’s an eviction order.
I didn’t feel bad.
Since I’ve invested, it wouldn’t be bad for me if a good work came out.
And I might be able to have my favorite works produced through the film company.
It’ll be more than a hobby, but it’ll be a fun thing to do. In addition to this, I’ll get the justification to train my troops as I please.
It seems that Lee Seulgi and I are no more than investors here.
“Then I’ll be going.”
We had no choice but to leave the film company, leaving behind the scene of the director and writer excitedly discussing.
I finished my work and left the film company.
As expected, 20th Century Fox was operating as its reputation suggested.
Instead of running like a normal company, people worked with passion.
Many general companies join the company just to make money. It’s an unavoidable job rather than something they want to do.
But the film industry was not.
Even if they receive a small salary, they often want to do what they like from the bottom. So the difference in passion was severe compared to general companies.
“What’s today’s schedule?”
“It’s over for now.”
“Good. I have to do what I’m good at.”
There’s a match with Poison early this morning.
So, even if I go back and focus on training from now on, I’ll be short on time.
“Let’s go back to the hotel.”
