Moving (2)
Incheon International Airport.
A lot had happened in the United States.
Since I acquired several major corporations at once, I couldn’t oversee all of them.
I didn’t plan to replace the chairmen of each company anyway.
Since each company was being integrated, I kept them under the Soo Group umbrella and would make adjustments once they were fully integrated.
These companies had been running smoothly before being acquired by Soo Group, so they would continue to operate and manage themselves without my direct involvement.
If that’s the case, I’ll leave them be.
First, I need to open the Gate to the other world and see what’s needed there, then come back and give instructions.
For now, I just need to make basic preparations.
I’ll prepare to produce anything and train a 100,000-strong army.
Since over 100,000 Dummies [magically created soldiers] had already been selected and were in Paju, I just needed to equip them with cold weapons and armor from the steel mill and train them.
Women are preferred as employees, but men are better as soldiers. This was a matter of perception.
The other world would clearly have advanced magic and underdeveloped science, so swordsmanship would also be developed. A characteristic of the old world was that women didn’t have a big role. Especially in war, men take the lead. So there was no reason to choose female bodies.
As I came out of the airport exit, many reporters were gathered.
What I had been doing in the United States would make the economic reporters’ eyes pop out.
I had been acquiring major corporations one after another, and acquisitions were being prepared all over the world.
Anyone could see that I was encroaching on the global economy.
“It’s Chairman Lee Yoosung!”
Flash! Flash, flash!
As expected, the reporters were going wild.
“Well, I expected this.”
“They’re going to be even more of a mess in the future.”
“What can I do?”
It was inevitable that the reporters would go wild as more companies were acquired.
People I had seen a lot on TV were there too.
There were even movements to create a live special program, and citizens were stopping to watch, creating a huge crowd.
“Chairman! You’ve acquired four corporate groups. Didn’t the U.S. government intervene?”
“Why would the U.S. government?”
“Governments usually try to prevent the outflow of companies.”
“The acquisitions were made according to market principles, and I didn’t move the headquarters. There are no particular problems.”
“Some say it’s indiscriminate absorption. What do you think?”
“I’m just increasing the size of the company. I’m just expanding globally.”
“Many people find it strange that such successful companies are suddenly being acquired by you. Do you have anything to say about that?”
“It’s classified.”
I glossed over it like that.
There was no way to explain why companies were being acquired indiscriminately.
Humans are inherently creatures of desire and tend to develop when they have the means.
It’s not unusual for large corporations to expand indiscriminately. I’m just doing it on a global scale.
If I had trillions of dollars, wouldn’t anyone try to expand like this?
The reporters seemed to understand that much.
“Are you going to the company now?”
“No. I need to rest too.”
I decided to end the interview there.
Since it wasn’t an official press conference, it didn’t matter if I didn’t say anything else.
“Finally going home.”
It felt like a long time had passed, even though I had only been away from my family for a few days.
As expected, my family’s embrace is the most comfortable.
On the way home.
Han Yooram was waiting for me in the car with dark circles under her eyes.
Han Yooram must be swamped with work right now.
So many companies were being acquired, and just checking them would be enough to overload her brain.
Han Yooram sighed deeply.
“I’m speechless.”
“What is it?”
“I didn’t expect the company to grow this quickly… Companies have stages of development, but doing big deals every day is overloading my brain.”
“But you have an assistant, right?”
I had assigned a Succubus [a supernatural entity] to her as well.
Regular Succubi were much more efficient than Variant Vampires.
“Please assign me one more.”
“That’s not difficult.”
“Then it’s okay.”
Han Yooram didn’t ask any more questions.
She brings good news.
“I found a house that fits the chairman’s instructions.”
“Oh, really?”
“It’s about to be under contract, but you should go and see it and make a decision.”
“Can I go tomorrow?”
“Of course. After all, the price is so high that only a chaebol [a wealthy business owner] chairman could afford it.”
“Where is it?”
“It’s in the heart of Seoul. Administratively, it’s in Gangnam, but it overlooks the Han River and has a mountain right behind it, making it an ideal location. The land is about 500 pyeong [approximately 19,835 square feet], and the floor area alone is 100 pyeong [approximately 3,967 square feet], so it’s quite expensive.”
“You’ve hired all the staff too?”
“Who do you think I am? I’ve already hired them all.”
As expected of Han Yooram.
She was as good at her job as Lee Seulgi, so she could be called a great talent.
“Then we should move tomorrow.”
“You don’t come to the company on weekends, do you?”
“I’m a human too, I need to rest.”
“Can I rest then too?”
I looked at Lee Seulgi.
She could only rest if Lee Seulgi told her to.
Lee Seulgi shook her head.
“Absolutely impossible.”
“She says no?”
“Ugh. Why does the chairman get to rest and I don’t?”
“Secretary Han. If you’re so envious, make money and start your own company.”
Han Yooram sighed at Lee Seulgi’s words.
Everyone acknowledged that their abilities were outstanding, but starting a business and demonstrating their abilities in a large corporation’s corporate headquarters were worlds apart.
More than anything, they now had immense power to wield. Starting a company was out of the question.
“Ugh, I shouldn’t have said anything.”
Han Yooram just sighed.
The daughters run over when I ring the doorbell.
“Dad!”
“You’re back!?”
The two daughters jump and hug me.
As expected, this is why I come home.
The wife was preparing the meal as always. The savory smell of soybean paste stew filled the house.
“You’re here?”
“Nothing happened?”
“Of course. I’m always here.”
“Thank you. You’re the only one for me.”
“Ew! Soojung is here too!”
“Sooa? Sooa?”
“Ah, right. You guys are here too.”
This noisy atmosphere.
This was the usual scene in our house.
I wash my hands and sit at the table.
Beef yukjeon [thinly sliced and seasoned raw beef] and sinseollo [a royal court casserole], it seemed my wife had shown off her skills because I had been on a business trip abroad.
Then I should share some good news too.
“Okay, everyone, I have something to say before we eat.”
My wife and daughters look at me.
With expectant looks.
“Let’s go see the house we’re moving to tomorrow.”
“Wow!”
“Are we really moving to Seoul!?”
“I heard they found a house overlooking the Han River. They said they’ve hired people to work there, so if we like it tomorrow, we can sign the contract.”
“We’re finally going!”
I know.
I had been living comfortably in an apartment, but I still thought a house was the way to go. Houses are hard to manage, but you can enjoy various romantic things. Besides, the place we were moving to wasn’t in the countryside.
Just a few minutes’ walk away were convenience stores and all sorts of amenities. Since people would be managing the house, we would be able to enjoy the convenience of living in an apartment and the advantages of living in a country house.
That night.
If the conversation was about moving when Sooa was around, now it was time to talk about black magic.
“Soojung. Have you compiled it?”
“Yes! Who is Soojung? This is a piece of cake!”
“How is it?”
“It won’t take long. It’s very well interpreted.”
“It should be seen as the result of a long period of research.”
It was a dimension-traveling magic that had been researched for thousands of years.
Black magicians had always wondered where the knowledge they risked their lives to learn came from, and even longed for it.
In a way, it might be natural for black magicians to want to go to the other world, like trying to be embraced by their mother.
This was the same for Lisa and Soojung, who had learned black magic.
“But it might take a little time to manifest.”
“It takes time to manifest?”
“Yes! It means it will take a few days to open the gate. No matter how much magic Dad puts in.”
“No one has been able to cross over for thousands of years, can’t we wait a few days.”
“Then we can move leisurely and then travel to another dimension!?”
“That’s right.”
“Wow! Finally a mansion!”
Soojung seems to be happy just thinking about it. Seeing her jumping around like that.
“I’m curious too. What will exist in the other world?”
“I’ll go over first and take you with me when I determine there’s no danger.”
“Soojung too! Soojung too!”
“Okay. You too.”
“Hehe. Thanks to Dad, I get to go to another world, I’m really living the good life. Right, Mom?”
“That’s right.”
“Moving isn’t living the good life?”
“No! Moving is good too!”
This confirms it.
Soojung is more interested in the other world than this world.
Holiday morning.
If you had to pick the most important time in human life, it would be rest.
That’s why I always tried to rest and spend time with my family, even when I was busy.
Today is the same.
It was the day to see the house, but I thought of this as resting with my family.
I come out of the back gate of the apartment and get in the car.
“Dad is famous, so there are reporters every day?”
“They have a lot to ask.”
“Because of the indiscriminate absorption?”
“It can’t be helped that other people see it that way.”
To others, I was doing M&A so quickly that it could ruin the national economy.
It was natural for people to be surprised.
Even acquiring just one leading company would be a big issue, but what I was doing now was M&A so fast that it didn’t make sense.
From the perspective of the black magicians, I was acquiring the companies they owned, but ordinary people didn’t think that way.
After getting in the car, I set the navigation.
I called the real estate agent and made an appointment to meet in an hour and was about to start the car.
Screech!
I braked suddenly because someone was blocking the way.
“What is that?”
“Wait a minute!”
A woman was blocking the car with her arms outstretched.
